Redrawing a layout

                  puzzlePanel.remove(c);
                    puzzlePanel.remove(lastSelectedLabel);
                    gbc.gridx=cX;
                    gbc.gridy=cY;
                    puzzlePanel.add(lastSelectedLabel,gbc);
                    gbc.gridx=lX;
                    gbc.gridy=lY;
                    puzzlePanel.add(c,gbc);
                    this.invalidate();
this.repaint();This code is to switch jlabels. The problem is, that the component arrangement will NOT change until I resize the frame. I've also tried invalidating the layout itself, revalidating the puzzlePanel, and repaint on everything, but none work. What am I doing wrong?

Is there any way I can make af:table component's record orientation to Horizontal? I looked all the properties and cound't find one!!! Is there any easy workaround method?
We are using JDev 10.1.3.3.0 with ADF BC

Thank you Frank for clarification. af:forEach is really interesting component but too much for my requirement.
I redraw my layout using af:table (vertical only) by rearranging other components.

• Bug: syntax error in code editor breaks layout and redrawing windows incorrect

I'm working with "SQL Developer" version:
Oracle IDE    4.0.0.13.80
Plataforma Java(TM)    1.7.0_45
installed on windows 7  64 bits.
when I execute some ddl command in the code editor with syntax error, all layout windows are incorrectly drawn, and I have to close "SQL Developer" application to go on.
Example:
       COMMENT ON COLUMN "TABLE"."COLUMN1" IS 'comments on column 1';
       COMMENT ON COLUMN "TABLE"."COLUMN2" AS 'comments on column 2';
First comment is correctly aplied but second comment has a syntax error (AS is wrong) but you no receive error output, layout it hangs.
I tested with thick/OCI and using jdbc, and I always go to the same problem.

Good Morning
Did you ever get this working without restoring ?

• LE7:Score Layout:Global Format:Maximum Bars per Line - Line Break Bug!

Hello
This problem occurs in Logic Express version 7.
(I am using MacOS version 10.4.2 on an eMac)
I am currently compiling and editing a large score for a big band composition consisting of 22 parts:
Flute 1
Flute 2
Clarinet 1
Clarinet 2
Alto Sax 1
Alto Sax 2
Tenor Sax 1
Tenor Sax 2
Baritone Sax
Trombone 1
Trombone 2
Trombone 3
Trombone 4
Trumpet 1
Trumpet 2
Trumpet 3
Trumpet 4
Guitar
Keyboard
Electric Bass
Percussion 1 (Kit)
Percussion 2 (Aux)
I am creating the score in a separate file, and I am combining parts into 1 stave each by instrument like this:
Flute 1 & 2
Clarinet 1 & 2
Alto Sax 1 & 2
Tenor Sax 1 & 2
Baritone Sax
Trombone 1 - 4
Trumpet 1 - 4
Guitar
Keyboard (2 staves)
Bass
Percussion
Each instrument, with the exception of keyboard which has 2 staves, consists of one stave, making up systems of twelve staves each. By sizing down each score style to 2,
I have managed to fit 2 systems onto each page, therefore significantly reducing the amount of paper needed.
The problem comes when organising the layout of my score,
in particular, the line breaks. Using layout:global format, I have limited the maximum number of bars per line to 8, both in the page edit and normal score mode.
I am trying to divide up my score so that there are 8 bars per system. Using the white arrow tool, I am dragging bars up and down in order to achieve this.
However, when I get 30 odd bars in, I discover a system with 12 bars crammed into it - and even printing it off, it is clear that the system could benefit with less bars; the notation is squashed up together and not very easy to read.
THIS IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM:
So I tried using the white arrow to move the last 4 bars down onto the next system, and a bug occurs where I end up with about 20 bars on the system, oddly distorted, the first few bars of which are squashed up together at the beginning of the line, and the last bar of which is stretched far off the right hand side of the page out of view. Then the next 20 or so bars are no where to be seen (probably far off the right hand side of the page) before the system below.
If you dont know what I am talking about, I could provide a screenshot if you request.
I have tried everything to get 8 bars on that particular system; dragging the stretched bar downwards, dragging squashed bars downward, moving bars down 1 by 1, moving bars onto the system above, moving bars away from the system below (to make room for the 4 bars that I want to move from above), adding more bars and dragging them down, but none of these methods have worked. I am either stuck with 12 bars crammed onto one system and 4 bars on the next or an oddly distorted version of the system which cannot possibly be read. Even when I settle with the unsatistactory former, I encounter further problems on subsequent systems below, some systems of which are already distorted.
All I want is to have 8 bars per system, it should not be too much to ask! The layout:global format:maximum-bars-per-line calculation seems to be redundant, even when I reset the default line breaks - it just does not automatically set 8 bars per line, which it should do. Is there not an option to determine bars individually by number onto their respective lines, without having to use the white arrow graphic layout tool?
The problem is extremely frustrating, and it is preventing me from completing, presenting and handing in a score for my university music composition.
I have no other score producing software, and starting it
from scratch on paper is going to take me weeks, because it consists of 830 12/8 bars in 22 parts, and I need to get it ready by next term!
Any help would be extremely helpful and much appreciated, especially a patch or a useful way round. It could be related to memory, or hard drive space, as I have experienced similar problems in the past, where my score has been stretched off the page during a time when I have had little disk space...and this is a very large piece of music which might stretch the score capabilities of Logic.
If so, has anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks!
Rory

nope just cutting should work.
here are some things to try:
1. try assigning a different score style. for the regions. duplicate and then adjust the default ones if necessary.
2. try creating a new instrument set. in fact delete them and make a new one (use the key command: create instrument set from selected)
3. it may be a formatting problem so check:
in global layout constant spacing (try 8 or 9) and proportional spacing (try 45 or so). then try factory defaults.
4. try copying and pasting the midi into a brand new region and looking at the score for that.
5. try fiddling with the layout tool drqagging bars up or down.
normally simply cutting the region of just one object is enough to force a redraw. maybe try it on all of the regions. what happens when you double click on a region?

• JD12 JSF designer does not redraw

I am having many issues in JD12 JSF designer.
One is that when I for example select a navigation button's spacer and change it's Width property, the space between buttons does not change until file is closed and re-opened. Is that expected behaviour? Dropping an operation onto the navigation button is very tricky as well. Even when selected is 'Panel group layout', sometimes a rebinding window comes up. The space where a button has to be dropped is so narrow and volatile, that dropping a button becomes a torture that I have to repeat 2-3 times before it actually drops exactly one button (and does not rebind or drop 3 copies of it).
Another is that when I am changing table column Sortable and Filterable properties, they take 2 times to change the selected values from default to true or vice versa. The green dot does appear in front of property name, but drop down reverts to default (or previous value whatever it was). Suppose I changed Sortable from default to true - it did not change. Then I am changing Filterable in the sam manner and it does not redraw, but Sortable now does. Then I have to change sortable to the same new value again and Filterable now changes. Very annoying. Is there a fix?
Selecting the controls is bugged as well.  Suppose I selected a table column and changed its Row header property to true, then went on to change another one. When I click another column, it does not select, but a baloon pops up which contains a binding for that column. To close it I have to click elsewhere and re-click the column again. Why is that happening?
Suppose I dropped a panel border layout onto a facet. Undoing that does not visually remove the border layout from a form. Only closing a file and re-opening will re-draw. Similarly, I am adding a navigation button from Operations, but the buttons do not re-draw to show that a new button was added. Same as previous, only closing/re-opening a file shows a new button. Royal PITA. Is there a fix?
Suppose I am changing initial size of a table. The number by the right corner changes showing the new size, but after the bottom border is released, the size does not re-draw. Only closing and re-opening a file shows the new size.
Resizing table columns is painful. When a column is shrinking, the columns to the right of it do not move accordingly - they stay put and the width of the very next column is increasing. Thus it is absolutely impossible to arrange the columns that are beyond visible width of the table. When the column is growing, the columns to the right of it behave erratically - often they suddenly increase their width and disappear beyond the right table border. This is simply infuriating.
The last is that if the data controls dropped onto the page contain columns from more than one table, then resulting application will throw runtime exceptions (null pointer). But if I deleted all columns but that very object's own columns, and dropped it onto the page, then it will work. After that I can add any columns from that object and it will work fine. The Create Table wizard clearly creates defective code.
I am running JDEVADF_12.1.2.0.0_GENERIC_130608.2330.6668 under Windows 7 32bit. Are these issues fixed in a more recent build or going to be fixed soon?

You are not understanding the term 'narrow space' I've used. It does not equal 'width of spacer between the buttons. It equals the area of display monitor where an orange drop indicator appears that supports dropping a new button in between the existing ones. I.e. where JD12 is allowing me to drop a new operation without rebinding the existing buttons.
The JDK version is the one that JD12 itself installed - 1.7.0_15. As that's the JDK that was shipped with JD12, I contend it has to be sufficient.
There is no Mcaffee on this machine. They are using Symantec AV. There is about 300-500 MB free RAM when these issues are occurring and CPU load is about 0%.
Another issue I just noticed is that javadocs are not loading. Doc Path for JDK 1.7.0_15 that came with JD12 is set to http://docs.oracle.com/javase7docs/api/ and there is no doc under the folder where JD installed its JDK. I don't know how to fish docs for an older JDK out of Oracle web site.
As you contend that it is my system that is a root cause, I looked up the system requirements for JD12 and found that my system exceeds them.

• How to redraw a business process ?

Greetings,
During a business process definition, the arrows representing the process flows are automatically drawn and hence, sometimes, they superseeds each other, etc. is there any way to redraw a business process flow such that the arrows and nodes be shown in an optimal manner ?
Kind regards,
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas
You might find the "Layout" button in the top right corner of the process helpful.
I'm a bit obsessive about the way the processes are drawn so I don't use it. Sure there is someone out there who uses this, but believe most of us manually layout the processes.
Be sure to click Save button before clicking the Layout button. Worse case is that you see what it does and then hit Cntl-Z to undo it.

• Score Editor bug: syncopating a note disturbs line layout

In the example below, the instrumental part with max 2 bars per line has been created with the Layout Tool, and then the selection saved as a Score Set ( which i hope locks all the page details in place).

I then noticed that the red circled note is not displayed correctly - it should be a dotted eighth note and duly click on it with my Syncopate note command.
This then produces the following effect: it crunches up the bars and disturbs the line layout which was already set, cramming 3 bars onto the line above as in the example below.

Any solutions appreciated/workflow suggestions.. or is this just "..another L8 Score Editor bug.. wasting more of 2009"
PS Any suggestions as how to get the images to display in the post - as opposed to appear a link? cheers

i should be enjoying my holiday but i couldn't help myself...
there are a couple of fixes for this.
first, try cutting the regions somewhere to force a redraw.
second, if no form of cutting or reformatting works, try copy and pasting the midi into a fresh autoload on the intel.
particularly if the file was created pre 7.2. there can be compatibility issues between ppc and intel.

• Stop Redrawing in VBA

Hello,
I try (or better ife done) a complexe Script in VBA.
It accesses directly Indesign and send Line by Line all Stuff to Indesign.
So i DO NOT load the script in Indesign, i execute it directly in my VBA Application.
The Problem is tthe Redrawing. I cannot stop it by simple set the preferences. these preferences will be ignored.
The issue is not only the low Speed, its also the hangups after 40 or 50 Pages.
Indesign itself works trough but all interfaces get scrambled. you can only press alt-f4 after finisching the script and save the file and restart indesign --- not a fine solution.
if i open an Menü in Indesign while the script runs (lets say fileopen. everything is fine and the script is about 10 times faster.
SO the question is how can i stop indesign from redrawing when i script from the outside of indesign.
i alos found an idea in this forum for running into the background (by minimizing inseign) but this wont help. if you minimize it the same effects and low speed. only open an menue helps but i really dont like it.
so anyidea how to to this OR run indesign real in the background ?
thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english,..

Its not possible to check conditions with doscript if the conditiions based on the status of the record (or better status of every field fo the record) against the database. so you have to make an preprocessing where you hook all the data to doscript
but your "DoScript" can check these conditions for you

BUT this isnt suiteable too or how you wanna send doscript 900 records with 90 fields?

why not ?
you can even place your data in TextFrame as raw data and "DoScript" can process it - many times faster than you can do this by external application

some of my tools "do a or b and can be downloaded" but I have many special apps created for particualar needs of my clients and you can trust me - these apps aren't simple and slow and when app is too slow for me - even if fast for client I always try to find better way to make it even faster
for example - tool for building ads to newspaper - first version - 2 hour to lay out 15 000 ads - finall version - less than 30 minutes

• ADG itemRenderer Redraw issue

here is the long and the short of it.
I have the following system in place
Advanced Data Grid with a list of data created objects. One
of the columns has an item renderer on it, it also happens to be
the itemEditor.
I have a method on the itemRenderer component (which is
derived from a canvas) that is called at creationComplete
in this method I use the data object to determine the type of
object I am going to add to the canvas
IE if the data.@Type has a 1 then it creates an hBox and
three radio buttons and adds that to the canvas. Then it adds a
event handler for the item click at the radio button group level
and changes the public string for the result.
in turn the editorDataField is the name of the public member
of the itemRenderer / itemEditor
so here is the problem.
I have a large enough grid that the column is off the main
display area so I have to scroll to it. If i scroll over there, and
set some of the radio buttons and scroll away from it when I scroll
back the itemRenderer that has set data is in a different place. It
seems like the row and the renderer are not in sync.
it is a simlar problem when it pretains to a grouping also,
the place where the render should be is misplaced not quite sure
what the issue is.
is there a refresh that I need to do ?
also have a problem with the filter and the redraw but I
think that its linked to this initial problem.
Anyone have an idea or a place to point me in the right
direction? any help would be amazing.
Thank you all in advance.

Q2

• Windows sometimes don't redraw their contents

Sometimes, when I obscure a window by another one or switch desktops, some of my windows have "blank" areas.  When I then force the window to redraw somehow, like by clicking on something that changes its content, the window gets back to normal.  I've seen this happen for urxvt that uses Xlib directly, AFAIK, xfce4-panel that's GTK+ app and Kopete or KTorrent which use KDE toolkit -- so it doesn't seem to be related to any particular GUI toolkit.  I can't really reproduce it either.
This is a screenshot of what it looks like:
I don't really have an idea of what could be going on.   I'm not running any compositor or anything else that gives fancy looks -- just plain OpenBox.
If you can point me in some direction, you'll be welcome.

• How to force a Layout manager to recompute placement

Hi,
I would like to know how i can force a Layout Manager to recompute
size of components in a JFrame and redraw all of them.
My problem: I have a JTree inside a BorderLayout and when i open
path in the tree i would like that the tree is resized to show
all the text. This is done when i resize the window i would like
that is done also when i click on the JTree
Thanks for help

Well I can tell you what I do, Im not sure how correct it is! I use the revalidate() and repaint() methods on the frame, and it should revalidate the components. Or removeAll() from the frame and re add frame.add(components); again.
Hope this makes a bit of sense. Post code if you want, then i can take a proper look.

• Paper Layout / Web Source

Does creating Web Source effect the Paper Layout?
It appears my formatting in my Web Layout displays in the Paper Layout along with all the previous formating I have done in the Papaer Layout.
Or is this a simple refresh/redraw issue not being properly handled by Reports Builder?

Having a Web layout does not affect the paper layout, only the paper layout is executed when you create paginated output.
However, if you are defaulting using the wizard then you need to select "web layout only" option. Otherwise you will default a layout into both the web and paper layouts. This may be what you are seeing.

• Pages Palette constantly redraws.

Using CC 2014 with a photo heavy layout of 56 pages. EVERY TIME I go to a new page the pages palette redraws and hangs ID until it is complete. If I make even a minor move, it redraws and nothing happens until it is complete. I can't even change to another palette. I finally changed the display properties of the graphics to fast in the preferences and that worked but I'm not sure that is a real solution. Suggestions?

Think I found a solution - or better: a workaround for it.
When I delete the Indesign defaults, the problem stays.
But when I delete the InDesign SavedData file
(it is in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0\en_GB\Caches)
the problem is gone.
Maybe this can help to find out what really causes this problem - and find a better solution to avoid it?
Thank you all!

• Can I change TOC layout in each chapter

I want to place my chapter name in different location in TOC. As you can see from picture below my text at the top mess with my picture. If I move text box, it will effect other chapter text box too. Can I edit text box individually?

iBooks Author has a default layout for the TOC chapter page. There is a half page  image placeholder on the right, leaving the other half page clear of clutter and showing  the  Chapter - Section text  clearly.
You appear to have  increased the font size to cover around 75% of the page width and  placed an image to cover the full page.  All this is OK, except you created your image and it clashes with the text.
If you want clarity, either change of redraw the image to move  the clash with your text, or  reduse or move your text.  The  font size can be reduced a few points and moved about the outline on your  drawing. You could also change the  font colour to a stronger colour to contrast the colours on your  drawing.

• Retouching electronic circuit layouts

What is the best way to scan and retouch electronic circuit layouts (example below)?
My procedure so far is to scan the layout from the magazine/book at a 1200 DPI/color where I end up with something like this (100% preview of a small selection from the above circuit):
In order to successfully transfer this to a copper clad fiberglass board I obviously need to clean things up. Ideally I should end up with a pure black/white image with sharp edges (no gray gradients) as seen in another circuit layout found online:
So my process for achieving something close to this (but still not ideal, hence this posting for advice) is as follows in Photoshop:
1) Copy the scanned image to a new layer.
remove as much of the background as possible (Magic wand tool), then using the eraser to remove what's left. This way I end up with a transparent background.
At this stage I also do all the retouching (removing spots, streaks etc. (eraser tool) and fill in damaged circuit traces with black color (brush tool).
2) The circuit traces should be 100% black and the edges should be sharp.
To achive this I use the Magic wand tool to select everything black in the image,
use "Refine edge" to create the sharp edges I'm looking for,
then invert the selection (SHIFT-ALT-i).
Finally I create a new layer, then fill everything selected using the black foreground color (provided "D" (default) has been selected) by pressing ALT-backspace.
However, I'm not quite getting the result similar to the downloaded example above (despite having experimented with several "Refine edge" settings), but something like this instead:
Obviously the scan has been hand-drawn to begin with (unlike the downloaded example which has been computer drawn), but I'm hoping still I can get a better result. Suggestions? I'm using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac.

I would agree with SRiegel that it would be faster to actually redraw this.  Since there are very few different shapes used on the board, it would be easy to create a master shape for the different components and just duplicate as many as you need.  For the lines, just use the pen tool with a stroke set to the width you need.  I've done this exact same thing at my work.
