Reference nodes from TreeCellRenderer

I'm trying to customize the way JTree displays its nodes, but I'm still a little confused.
How can I reference the node objects (CheckBoxVector) from within the CheckBoxRenderer class so that I can,
...[1] not add a checkbox to leaf nodes,
...[2] toggle checkbox on and stay on after clicking on a different node.,
...[3] make it so clicking only on the checkbox toggles it instead of anywhere on the node.
My node object has a boolean value, if I could only reference the isSelected() and toggle() methods...
public class CheckBoxVector extends Vector {
         private String text;
         private boolean selected;
         public CheckBoxVector(String new_text, boolean new_selected) {
              this.text = new_text;
              this.selected = new_selected;
         public boolean isSelected() {
              return selected;
         public void setSelected(boolean newValue) {
              selected = newValue;
         public void setText(String newValue) {
              text = newValue;
         public String toString() {
              return text;
         public void toggle() {
              selected=!selected;
public class CheckBoxRenderer extends JPanel implements TreeCellRenderer {
         private JCheckBox check;
         private JLabel label;
         public CheckBoxRenderer() {
              setLayout(new BorderLayout(0,0));
              setBackground(UIManager.getColor("Tree.textBackground"));
[1]          add(check = new JCheckBox(), BorderLayout.WEST);
[1]          check.setBackground(UIManager.getColor("Tree.textBackground"));
              add(label = new JLabel(), BorderLayout.EAST);
         public Component getTreeCellRendererComponent(JTree tree, Object value,
                                       boolean isSelected, boolean expanded,
                                       boolean leaf, int row, boolean hasFocus) {
              setEnabled(tree.isEnabled());
[1][2][3]     check.setSelected(isSelected);
              label.setFont(tree.getFont());
              if (leaf) {
                   label.setIcon(UIManager.getIcon("Tree.leafIcon"));
              } else if (expanded) {
                   label.setIcon(UIManager.getIcon("Tree.openIcon"));
              } else {
                   label.setIcon(UIManager.getIcon("Tree.closedIcon"));
              label.setText(value.toString());
              return this;
    }

you node objects class (CheckBoxVector ) should extend DefaultMutableTreeNode class.
//then in //
getTreeCellRendererComponent(JTree tree, Object value,
                                   boolean isSelected, boolean expanded,
                                   boolean leaf, int row, boolean hasFocus) {...
//you can do//
CheckBoxVector myNode = (CheckBoxVector ) value;

  • Check VI type for call by reference node

    Hi Ppl,
    I'm calling a set of VI's dynamically using call by reference node. And I have a type specifier linked to a particular type connector pane. But at times when the VI prototypes do not math I get error from the open VI reference node. Is there any way to check if the VI connector panes matches before opening the refrence with the VI type specifier ?, or using the error code is the only way to check if there were miss match in VI connector pane.
    Thanks
    Solved!

    But what is wrong with Error checking?
    For example, I using code like this in my application for detect which type of dynamic VI should be used (decision based on Error output):

  • Adding multiple same-name nodes from one xml into another

    Hi,
    Following on from my question the other day (Adding multiple different nodes from one xmltype into another), I now have a slightly more complex requirement that I cannot work out where to start, assuming that it's something that can reuse some/all of yesterday's work (thanks again, odie_63!). ETA: I'm on 11.2.0.3
    So, here's the (slightly amended) xml along with yesterday's solution:
    with sample_data as (select xmltype('<root>
                                           <xmlnode>
                                             <subnode1>val1</subnode1>

                                             <subnode2>val4</subnode2>
                                           </xmlnode>
                                         </root>') xml_to_update,

                       , sd.xml_to_extract_from as "new"
                 returning content

    That gives me:
    <root>
      <extrainfo>
        <b>valb</b>
        <d>
          <d1>vald1</d1>
          <d2>vald2</d2>

        <subnode1>val3</subnode1>
        <subnode2>val4</subnode2>

    However, I now need to add in a set of new nodes based on information from the <multinode> nodes, something like:
    <root>
      <extrainfo>
        <b>valb</b>
        <d>

        </h>
        <newnode>
          <name>fred</name>
          <type>book</type>
        </newnode>
        <newnode>
          <name>bob</name>
          <type>car</type>
        </newnode>
      </extrainfo>
      <xmlnode>
        <subnode1>val1</subnode1>
        <subnode2>val2</subnode2>
        <type>book</type>

        <subnode2>val4</subnode2>
        <type>car</type>
      </xmlnode>
    </root>
    If it's easier, I *think* we would be ok with something like:
    <newnode>
      <type name="fred">book</type>
      <type name="bob">car</type>
    </newnode>
    The closest I've come is:

    return $d
    So we're going with the second method, but I've discovered that the "$i/name" node is not always present. When that happens, I would like to use a default value (for example, "george"). I promise I've searched and searched, but I'm completely failing to turn up anything that sounds remotely like what I'm after (seriously, I can't believe my google-fu sucks this badly!).
    Is there a simple way of doing it? The only thing that I've found that looks vaguely relevant is "declare default namespace...." but I'm not sure that that's the correct thing to use, or if it is, how I'm supposed to reference it when populating the attribute value.

  • How to update a webdynpro context node from flex ?

    Hi
    I have an table in webdynpro and a datagrid in flex, both getting the value from the same context node. My requirement is to make the table fields editable and when I make changes in the datagrid, it should get reflected back in the webdynpro table.
    So how can I access the internal table's context node from flex ?
    Can anyone help me with this.

    Hi,
    As you are using a datasource, i assume you have set method in flex to read the datasource(context node). What you need to do is store the reference to this datasource in a local flex variable. Have a look at the below code:
    private var refreshFlexUINode:ArrayCollection;
    public function set refreshFlexUI(datasource:ArrayCollection):void
        refreshFlexUINode=datasource;
    and say you want to edit one row of the table, get that row from ArrayCollection and assign the new value.
    it would be like, if you want to save second row of the datagrid
    Object obj = refreshFlexUI.getItemAt(1)
    obj[<CONTEXT_ATTR_NAME>]=<new value>
    Hope this helps!

  • Threading and Re-Use of buffers Using Call By Reference node (Duct Tape required)

    I have been trying to get the following information into the public domain for years and now that I have the answers, I will share with those that may be interested.
    Warning!
    Wrap your head in duct tape before reading just for safety sakes.
    My two questions have been;
    1) can LV Re-use the buffers of the calling VI when using VI Serve Call by reference?
    2) Is the UI thread used when using Call by reference?
    1. When calling a VI using the call by reference node, does the data going into the connector pane of the node get copied, or is it in-line as it would be with a properly set up subVI?
    Short answer: It is somewhere in-between.
    Long answer:
    The compiler doesn't know what VI will be called, but it does have a hint:
    the reference wired into the Call By Reference node. It uses that to get the "Prototype" for the call. So for the best performance, use a prototype that has the same "in-placeness characteristics" as the called VI. That being said, users don't know what the "in-placeness characteristics" are.
    Before I go into the details, I should say that the overhead of these copies shouldn't matter much unless it is a large data structure (an array with a lot of elements, or a cluster/class with many fields or containing large arrays etc.).
    Example 1:
    If the prototype does not modify the data then the compiler assumes that the Call By Reference node will not modify the data. However at run-time a check is made to see if the actual called VI will modify the data. If so, then a copy is made and passed in so that the original data can remain unmodified.
    Example 2:
    If the prototype contains an input that is wired through to an output in such a way that both the input and output terminals can use the same memory buffer, but at run-time a check determines that the actual called VI's input and output do not share a buffer, then a copy will be made from the actual call's output to the original VIs (combined input and output) buffer.
    I should also mention that even with this "attempt to agree with the prototype" behavior, it's not always possible to get as good performance as a regular SubVI call. For instance if you have a situation where the prototype does not modify the data and passes it through to an output then the compiler must assume that the data is modified (because as in example 2, there exist VIs that may modify it even if the actual VI called does not).
    And there are some caveats:
    1) This "using a prototype" behavior was new to 2009. Before that we used a more naive way of passing data that assumed all inputs will be modified and no outputs share a buffer with an input.
    2) This behavior is subject to change in future versions, if we find further optimizations.
    3) This behavior is the same as we use for dynamic dispatch VIs (when using LV classes)
    4) If you want to create a VI only to be used as a prototype, then you can use features of the In-Place Element Structure to control the "in-placeness characteristics" Namely the In/Out Element border nodes, the "Mark as modifier" feature of the border nodes (note the pencil icon on the In Element), and the Always Copy node.
    5) The prototype is only the first reference ever wired into the Call By Reference node. So if you do make a new prototype VI, you can't just make a reference out of it to wire to the Call By Reference node. I suggest deleting the Call By Reference node and dropping a new one.
    6) For remote calls, we always have to "make copies" by passing data over a network.
    I hope this helps, if you want any further information/clarification, then feel free to ask.
    2. Does the call by reference node execute in the UI thread? If the call is being made by a remote machine over ethernet, which thread does the host (the machine that makes the call by reference) execute on and which thread does the target (the machine that contains the VI file) execute on?
    In the local case, the Call by Reference node does not require the UI thread and can run in whatever thread the VI wants to execute in.
    When calling a remote VI, the Call by Reference node uses the UI thread (detailed below) on both the client and on the server.
    The client uses the UI thread to send the call request to the server and then again when the response comes back. The UI thread is not blocked during the time in between.
    The server receives the TCP message in the UI thread and then starts the call in the UI thread. The server also uses the UI thread to send the response back to the client. The UI thread is not blocked on the server during the execution of the VI.
    I hope people find this when they need it!

    I use the model : DefaultMutableTreeNode
    Thanks

    There are a couple of ways it can be done. If your tree uses DefaultTreeModel as its TreeModel, you can use removeNodeFromParent(). This will remove the node from its parent and effectively remove its children, too. All nodes removed will be garbage-collected if there are no other references to them.
    If your tree model is not the default tree model, but still uses MutableTreeNode, you can use either remove() or removeFromParent() on the node itself, depending on whether you want to remove the node itself or one of its children.
    On the other hand, your tree may use a model that simply "mirrors" another data structure, in which case you would have to remove the node from the other data structure and have it reflected in the model.

  • Updating a property node from a sub-vi

    I want to have a string indicator box that updates as my program moves along, i have been using the property node this works fine in the main vi but now i want to update it from a sub iv. any ideas?

    Tip: The easiest way to accomplish this is to do the following:
    In your top-level VI that has the control right-click on it and select Create-->Reference. This will allow you to place a reference in top-level VI's block diagram.
    Create a new VI that will be your subVI.
    Drag and drop the reference object from the block diagram of your top level VI to the front panel of your new subVI. This will create a reference control on your subVI that is of the same type as the control on your top-level VI.
    Connect the reference control on your subVI to a connection terminal, and then wire the reference object in your top-level VI's block diagram to the subVI's input terminal.
    Then, in your subVI you can just use the standard "Property" and "Invoke" nodes to fiddle with the control.

  • How to get nodes from nlp

    Hello all!
    My mean problem is that I dont know how to extract nodes from GrammaticalStructure.
    I am using englishPCFG.ser in java netbeans.
    My target is o know the quality of the screen like:
    the screen of iphone 4 is great.
    I want to extract screen and great.
    how can i extract the NN (screen) and VP (great)
    the code that I wrote is:
    LexicalizedParser lp = new LexicalizedParser("C:\\englishPCFG.ser");
        lp.setOptionFlags(new String[]{"-maxLength", "80", "-retainTmpSubcategories"});
        String sent ="the screen is very good.";
        Tree parse = (Tree) lp.apply(Arrays.asList(sent));
       parse.pennPrint();
        System.out.println();
        TreebankLanguagePack tlp = new PennTreebankLanguagePack();
        GrammaticalStructureFactory gsf = tlp.grammaticalStructureFactory();
        GrammaticalStructure gs = gsf.newGrammaticalStructure(parse);
        Collection tdl = gs.typedDependenciesCollapsed();thanks for helping

    NLP as Natural language processing, I assume : that bears some explicit acronym resolution, since, as you may have noticed, you have posted on a "general" java programming forum, where many won't know that - I didn't, I just ggogled it :o).
    Moreover, you don't make it explicit whether you are using a library; apparently, yes, presumably, JavaNLP, which again would bear some linking and reference... Again, not everyone may have heard of it (I hadn't, until one minute ago!).
    Then, maybe you'll have more chance asking such specific questions on a specific forum devoted to your library.
    Have you done so, and do you deem the investigations so far lead you to a general Java question rather than to library specifics? Then link or quote or sum up what you have investigated so far ("I dont know how to" and "the code that I wrote is:...", although clear as to what you want, is rather short in terms of describing what you have tried so far).
    Eventually, the library I mentioned seems to have rather extensive online Javadocs (I know nothing of the domain): have you read that?
    Best regards,
    J.

  • How to show the front panel when launching VI with Call by reference node??

    Hello!
    I just wonder how I make the front panel visible during execution when I launch the VI with CALL BY REFERENCE NODE.
    Se example.
    Could u also show me how to change different properties (window size ..) of the front panel??? (launched with CALL BY REFERENCE NODE)
    Thank you!

    In VI Properties>>Window Apperance>>Customize you can check "Show front panel when called". This will open the front panel on each call. It doesn't matter how the call was initiated.
    You can set a lot of Front panel properties during runtime. Place a Property Node in the block diagram. Change the class from App to VI. Under properties select Front Panel window>>Panel bounds to set the position and size of the front panel.

  • Subroutine execution priority with Call By Reference nodes

    Hi -
    I have a VI which contains a Call By Reference node. I would like this VI to run with subroutine execution priority (the VI is small, is called frequently, and must run quickly). The VI being called by reference is itself set to run with subroutine execution priority. However, I get an error which reads: subroutine priority VI cannot contain an asynchronous node. What is asynchronous about a call-by-reference to another subroutine VI? Is there any way to get around this? Thanks.
    Jason
    Jason Rolfe

    This is what the help files mention:
    Subroutine priority VI cannot contain an asynchronous node
    This VI has subroutine priority selected in the Execution page of the VI Properties dialog box. It cannot use an asynchronous node on its block diagram. Asynchronous nodes, such as dialog boxes, are supposed to allow other VIs on the same thread to continue to execute while they wait to complete their own execution. However, subroutine priority VIs block the execution of other VIs on the same thread until the subroutine priority VIs finish execution.
    You can correct this error in the following ways:
    Change the execution priority of this VI. To change the priority, right-click the VI icon in the upper-right corner of the front panel or block diagram window, and select VI Properties from the shortcut menu to display the VI Properties dialog box. Select Execution from the top pull-down menu of the VI Properties dialog box, and change the priority in the Priority pull-down menu.
    Remove the asynchronous node.
    I am affraid that the call by reference node is asynchronous.
