Referenced excel file

I'm importing an excel model which has data that is referenced to other excel files on a LAN. The file I'm importing is a type of aggregator of multiple excel files of only the data I'm looking for. I'm trying to create a simple chart with this model When I click preview, the data in the chart does not appear. Can xcelsius not import models with referenced data? Am I doing something silly?

So if I understand your question corectly I think the answer is no.
I do no longer have access to CX since my trial has ended and I saving money to buy the pro version but what I would try to do if I was you is to copy the sheet and then use paste special -> Values. If it work I would use VBA to do make the operation easier.

How to create an Excel file from XML in the Receiver File Adapter Comm Ch

How do I create an Excel file from XML in the Receiver File Adapter Communication Channel? I have my mapping done and I am outputting the file as a comma delimited csv file. However, the target can only process an Excel file (.xls). How can I generate an Excel in XI?
I saw this blog, but I don't know how to create a XSLT transformation.

Here are the steps I took to create an XSLT transformation in XI 3.0:
1. I created my source and target XSDs using XMLSpy.
2. I created the XSLT mapping from source to target in XMLSpy (referencing the souce XSD schema).
3. I created another XSLT mapping to format the target into Excel XML.
4. Import the source and target XSDs in the IR's External Definitions
5. Zip each XSLT mapping (.xls) and import it into the IR's Imported Archives
6. Reference the XSL mappings in the Interface Mapping

Uploading data from excel file to a dynamically created internal table

Hi,
I have a requirement where i have to upload data from an excel file into a database table. I would be able to determine the structure of the table only at runtime based on the user input.. so i have created an internal table dynamically.
Could you please tell me if its possible to upload data from an excel file to the dynamically created internal table using any function modules?
I thought of doing this by declaring a generic internal table of one field and then uploading the *.csv file into it and then splitting it based on "," and then assigning it to the field symbol referencing the internal table.. but my file length exceeds 132 characters and i'm only able to get data of lenght 132 char's in my internal table ( generic one).
Could anyone please show me a way around this.

Size of Exported Excel file is very large

Hi,
I have a report that has around 10000 rows and 5 columns. When I export to excel, the excel file is very big, around 15MB.
But If the file is opened, and saved again , the size reduces to around 13MB.
Any suggestions on how to reduce the file size of the exported Excel file. I would prefer to export it to excel rather than CSV format.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi, actually as you have probably noticed the size grows a lot due to the use of different styles and formatting.
If you do not require any formatting then I would recommend you to consider a CSV file format again because it will result in the smallest file size which you can achieve with exporting.
Also for the future referencing SQL Server 2008 R2 exports reports only in XLS format, but SQL Server 2012 by default will export into a new XLSX file format which is a compressed (zipped XML based format) so the resulting files will be significantly smaller.
For example I created a small project to test exporting of 10000 x 5 data to an Excel file. I used this
.NET Excel component to create various spreadsheet files, it has a straightforward API for
exporting DataTable into an Excel file in .NET so you can test this out yourself with ease. The output files, without any formatting applied to them, have the following sizes: XLS (~1MB), XLSX (~300KB) and CSV (~250KB).

Yes there is the file format "PDF".
No there's no file format "Acrobat file".
Anyway, there are a number of ways to create a PDF file from an Excel file.
From Adobe -
You can purchase ("perpetual" license or subscription) Acrobat (Standard or Pro).
After install of Acrobat you will have the Adobe PDF virtual printer which you can use to print to PDF (instead of print to paper).
After install of Acrobat you will have the PDFMaker which integrates with Office applications.
You can create a PDF from Excel using the PDFMaker.
Or
You can subscribe to Adobe's online service "PDF Pack".
As a subscriber you go online, point the browser to the service's site, sign in, upload the Excel file and then save the output PDF to your computer.
With the PDF in hand you originate the email and attach the PDF.

Not sure what the problem is, I got the code working.
One thing you're doing wrong though: Excel.XlFileFormat.xlOpenXMLTemplate supposes you're using the file extension ".xlsx" (Open XML format) and not ".xls" (Microsoft Excel 97-2003).
So you should start by changing either the extension to xlsx or the XlFileFormat to
xlExcel8.

How to import an excel file properly

I have a bunch of excel files with multiple tabs. The tabs are not independent of each other, and there is a lot of cross-referencing. When I try to open those files in Numbers, all the formulae become corrupted. The reason for that is that inter-tab references in Numbers have a different format due to sub-tabs or whatever you call it within tabs. As a result, when I try to import a file, default sub-tabs are created (e.g., Table 1), but references are not adjusted. Since corrupted references are automatically substituted for last known calculation results, I cannot adjust even manually. Is there any workaround for this issue?

In some spreadsheets, we may ask the app to display the formulas in the cells.
I don't know if Excel is able to do that.
If it is.
Save the doc with the formulas displayed.
Numbers will import the tables grabbing the formulas as text.
Gather the imported tables in a single sheet.
Select a table, select all cells and apply the format "Automatic".
Numbers will try to decipher the formulas.
For sure, it will issue red triangles here and there but with a bit of patience you will get a living document.
I did that with AppleWorks spreadsheets when, as the result of a localisation bug, they can't be imported by Numbers '08.
Some times later I thought that a more efficient soluce was to set my system in English and import in the English version.

Report Generation tool kit for MS office (Opening an existing excel file and appending to the bottom)

I don't have any problems creating and filling an excel sheet with data. I use the New Report.vi, Easy Title.vi, and Easy Text.vi to create the file. I then save and dispose properly.
What I don't seem to be able to do is open the exsting file and append data to the end of the sheet.

Hi Todd,
You can do this by creating a new Excel report with the existing excel file path wired to the "template" input. Then use "Excel Get Last Row.vi" (located under Report Generation\Excel Specific\Excel General) to obtain the location of the last row. Then use that location to input new data into the file.

But the program takes some time in displaying the output around 5 mins but when we tried with html, it opens up quickly.
The template has a complex matrix, layout wherein, we are using nested FOR loops to display the data in the required format.
Yesterday, we ran the report “Custom GL STAT Trial Balance Report” in DEV Instance and for around 500+ records, it took around 5 mins.
The excel file is only 1 MB and xml generated is 245 KB
Moreover, recently we had increased the OPP jvm to 3GB to avoid java.lang.memory error what was occurring earlier.

How can i print an Excel file when in the full screen mode (no print options on toolbar or right clk

using Vista, sometimes after creating and saving an excel file, the document is not visible when the file is reopened.
selecting full screen mode makes the document visible, but the toolbars disappear and the print option does not show up on a right click. How can i print the document and see the document in some other mode than full screen?

In order to print, you can click the CTRL+P keys to launch the print dialog,
Regarding the missing toolbar, try clicking the ALT key to shouw the software menu, then look around under the view option for any available toolbar settings,
If you cannot find it, i would recommend you to try the Microsoft support forums, as they have some more knowledge with their software features

I am getting an error while trying to upload a excel file. I am using the function HR_KR_XSTRING_TO_STRING for conversion. The error message is "Unable to interpret as a number"

First of all, are you sure you know what you are working with here. If this is standard Excel file in the Microsoft binary/propriatery format there is not function module or class in ABAP that can magically just transform this to a character string. You should search the forums as this has been discussed extensively. On that topic, please also do not post duplicate threads. I have already locked your other thread with the same basic question.
Instead of the binary/propriatery format of Excel, the file should be saved on the client as a text based format - like XML or Text Tab Delimited. You can then use several different options on the server to convert the XSTRING to STRING and process the content (becuase it was text based to begin with). Error While uplaoding a EXCEL file in Web dynpro - HR_KR_XSTRING_TO_STRING

I am getting an error while uploading an excel file in web Dynpro application. i am using the HR_KR_XSTRING_TO_STRING this function. I am getting the following error message 'Unable to interpret as a number'.

First of all, are you sure you know what you are working with here. If this is standard Excel file in the Microsoft binary/propriatery format there is not function module or class in ABAP that can magically just transform this to a character string. You should search the forums as this has been discussed extensively. On that topic, please also do not post duplicate threads. I have already locked your other thread with the same basic question.
Instead of the binary/propriatery format of Excel, the file should be saved on the client as a text based format - like XML or Text Tab Delimited. You can then use several different options on the server to convert the XSTRING to STRING and process the content (becuase it was text based to begin with). You could use CL_BCS_CONVERT, the function modules in the function group SCMS_CONV, or the class CL_ABAP_CONV_IN_CE.
