Reflections in window

I have a significant number of pictures taken on a bright sunny day from the panoramic car of Switzerland's Glacier Express that are marred by reflections in the glass windows. Does anyone know how to clarify these pictures as they are not replaceable. I use Elements 2, and have access to Photoshop 6, and am ready to purchase Elements 4. This was our 50th wedding anniversary trip so they mean a lot to us.
Peter Hartill

I played around with the third image. I was working from my laptop, and my results weren't great, but I had the most success with the good old Clone Tool. I zoomed way in and kept changing the brush size and shape (for example a square brush can help recreate the color variation in the field and the little road better than a round one), taking samples from the "OK" spots that are closest to the areas with the damage. It's tedious, and I resampled a lot, but the results are certainly an improvement.
I'd suggest creating new cloning layers for various portions of the images. On the one with the cows, I'd create a new layer and work on the cows, then I'd create another layer when I was trying to get the reflection of the face removed and still more layers for the mountainous areas. If the cows turned out OK but you weren't happy with the results for the face, you can just delete the "face" cloning layer without damaging your pretty cows! After the images are repaired as well as they can be, adjustment layers can be used to enhance the entire photo.
I know this sounds like a lot of work, and it will be, but think of how much enjoyment you'll get as you relive your trip while looking at the pictures! (You have to keep a positive attitude about this, ya know.)

  • Remove Reflection of Windows on Dock?

Hey all, I'm wondering how I can remove the reflection of an open program on the dock. I have Firefox open, and now it's reflecting the bottom status bar into the dock and it is quite annoying.
I'm NOT asking how to make the 3D dock go to 2D, or lower the opacity of the dock. I just don't want it reflecting other windows.

The "reflection" means that application is running.
No, the little light means it's a running application.
All items in the dock have a reflection all the time.

  • Macrium Reflect backup Windows 7 to Time Capsule

I can't get Macrium Reflect (free version) to backup my PC Windows 7 files.
The Time Capsule is already being used as a Windows server (Z: drive) to store, access and change files (eg: Word, Excel, PDF, etc documents).
I have a folder selected on the Time Capsule to save the backups to. The backup program runs but continually fails when reaching around 2%.
    Any solutions?

Works on mine.. and mine is formatted HFS+ like every other.
Are you using wireless or ethernet?? Try ethernet if you are using wireless.
Test with a large file. etc exactly as per my previous post.. what is the result of your testing??

  • Reflection question (window behind monitor)

    Hello
Am thinking of getting the ACD 24" but am concerned about reflections. It will be for a small study with the window behind the monitor (it would actually sit on the sill). I know it doesn't sound ideal, but I currently have an elderly Dell there and with judicious use of blinds it is fine.
My question is, do you think reflections from the Display's glossy screen will be significant? I know if the window were behind me that would be an issue. But in front?
(I realise I could get it directly from Apple on a try-it-and-see, but Apple, at least here in the UK, are by no means its cheapest supplier.)
    Thank you for your time.

Does turning it on or off, or any of the other options help?
    Regards,
    Colin R.

After looking at the threads it looks like the bug has been around since an earlier release of 1.3. Unfortunately weblogic does not support the latest jdk and looks like we are stuck with this problem (for now).
At least I will have some info to pass up the food chain.

  • MPEG-4 File Properties & Vista

    Hi
I have recently had to upgrade to Windows Vista. When I used Windows XP I was able to edit the file properties of both MPEG-4 file properties (details) and MPEG-3 files. Both file types interacted directly with the iTunes Get Info menu.
Unfortunately, I can no longer edit MPEG-4 file properties and when changes are made using Get Info they are not reflected in Windows Explorer.
I have examined permissions, but this doesn't seem to make any difference.
What happened to all the file properties? How can I edit MPEG-4 files?
I do like to make all my files consistent, but am no longer able too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Duncan

Are you running as administrator? You can turn off the security, that might help. You would be same as XP then. Can you edit the properties using Windows Explorer (right click on file name, go to properties menu option, Details tab). I don't have iTunes on my Vista as yet, but you might first confirm that outside of iTunes you can make the changes. If not, that would give you a clue as to why iTunes cannot either.

  • What is lightroom doing behind the scenes? Can't figure it out

    Hi,
Not sure if this is a stupid question or not... I've prowled through some FAQ's and can't find an answer so I'll just post this and see if any of you have an answer.
This might be because I'm using the trial version, but I can't see how Lightroom 'saves' changes to your photos. I've gone through and made some color corrections to some photos, added keywords, but when I go to the folder they're in, the files aren't changed at all, even after exiting and reopening Lightroom. I guess this is a 'feature' of Lightroom's non-destructive editing, but I can't figure out how you're supposed to get your changes made. You don't have to go through the 'print' or 'web' tabs to export images, do you? Or do you need to export images one by one and then deal with copies of each image (ie, balancing the Lightroom'ed files vs. the originals)?
Also, try as I might I can't seem to get my keyword updates for images to be reflected in Windows when I right-click and go to properties. It's important to me that Lightroom be able to edit keywords in the actual file, and not just maintain a little library of keywords per image somewhere locally like Picasa did. The reasons are numerous, but include the fact that I'd like to be able to move images around from place to place and have the keywords stick with them.
Which also brings up the question of where Lightroom's database of keyword synonyms exist at. I'm guessing it's all in one giant file somewhere on my computer? And if that's the case, then when I edit keywords on my laptop and move them to my desktop, the desktop won't recognize the keyword synonyms? I'll need to manually sync Lightroom databases on the two machines every so often?
Sorry if these are silly questions, but they feel like basics to me and I can't see any obvious mention of these in the FAQ's or manual. If it's located somewhere obvious in the manual then you can just let me know that, but at this point I'd kind of prefer if someone who knows can just give me a yes/no.
    Thanks so much,
    --Allen

    >Remember though that the color corrections, exposure, etc. just get saved as instructions in the file itself.
Metadata and parametric (develop) settings are stored in Lr's database. This information is only written to disk -- either within TIF, PSD, JPEG, or DNG files, or a sidecar XMP file for proprietary raw files -- when preferences are set to "Automatically write changes to XMP", or you explictly write using the Metadata>XMP menu.
When you export an image keywords are always exported as well. The OP stated something about Windows file properties not showing keywords. I have no idea what convention Microsoft uses for this information but it is non-standard. For example the free image viewer Irfanview shows this IPTC data just fine.

  • Working with aspect ratio from fcp to dvd sp

I am trying to cut video for use in a dvdsp menu. I have converted video to m2v using compressor. Video looks fine when importing to dvdsp. I try to edit same file in fcp. Everything works except when I export. After I edit m2v in fcp I am unable to make a successful export to dvdsp. I am able to import and add it to menu but the video looses its aspect ratio and is stretched.

    Very true!
But there are more cows on the loose here.
For example, the QuickTime Player Pro ( with its MPEG-2 Playout Component) will always report a square- pixel size of a .m2v file. But this is just reflecting the window size that QT decided to scale the 720x480 (or 720x576) to, because the inability for a computer screen to display non-square pixels.
So it can say that an MPEG-2 file is 640x480 when it is in fact 720x480. Even worse it can tell you 720x404 or 720x540, while none of them are even technically possible to use in MPEG-2.
It is true also that BitVice (1.8x and 2.x) allows you to encode all MPEG-2 legal picture sizes up to and including 720x576, a.k.a MP@ML ( or just SD). However, only a very few of them are legal for DVD, for example, NTSC:
    720x480
    704x480
    352x480
    352x240
    and PAL
    720x576
    704x576
    352x576
    352x288

  • A year and a half later and I still can't hide login items!

This bug has been reported in these forums since September 2005, but there's still no official workaround.
Even Apple have documented this bug, way back in March 2006; I am starting to think they don't care about this issue.
If only the application windows of Apple's own software were consistent, it might make things easier, but when I click the red 'x' window button, some applications simply hide (Mail, Safari) and others shut down completely (iPhoto, GarageBand).
This is surely a very simple thing to fix.
Is this bug actually going to be addressed in Tiger OS X? Will it be present in Leopard?

The orange window button only ever minimizes the window to the
dock in my experience and there's a big difference between that and
hiding the application. When hidden, the applications window(s) are
no longer displayed, whereas when minimized, a miniature picture of
the window is stored in the dock and is updated to reflect that
    window's contents.
Yes there is a difference between minimizing an application's window and hiding the application and using the term hide/minimize with the orange window button, I'm referring to an application's window only.
Fair enough, but surely closing the last open window of an
    application should quit that application?
Not what these window buttons are designed for with applications that can utilize multiple windows. What you refer to is a Windows operating system function which I can't stand when using a Windoze PC at work. When wanting to close an application's window only quits the application with Windows.
The orange window button does not hide iPhoto or GarageBand,
it minimizes them. The only way to hide those applications is to
press the Apple key + h.
I used minimize/hide interchangeably in this regard which is not correct but I was referring to the application's window and iPhoto and GarageBand are single windowed applications.
iTunes is a slightly different animal with the red and orange window buttons serving the same purpose - minimizing/hiding the application's window which is a single windowed application but this was probably done since music can be playing either on the computer or wirelessly via Airtunes and you may not want to quit the application if the red window button was accidentally selected instead of the orange window button.
So these forums are not read by anyone with inside knowledge
of Apple's development plans? That's comforting to know.
This is not what I said. I said no one here knows and if someone here does know, they wouldn't be allowed to say since Apple does not announce their development plans. This is a user to user help forum only which is provided and moderated by Apple. Certainly there are Apple employees (who might be in development) that peruse these discussions but it is rare when an Apple employee responds to a post or thread here and they certainly aren't allowed to post information about Apple's development plans here or anywhere else.
I never said the above issues with window buttons were bugs,
I said they were inconsistencies in terms of design.
Fair enough but the red/orange/green window buttons are designed for an application's window function - a multiple-windowed application, not the application with the exception of the red window button for single windowed applications such as iPhoto, GarageBand and iTunes.

  • EBS 12 - Forms not working.

    Hi,
We have a EBS-12 running on a windows 2003 EE. For some reason the FORM are not getting loaded. Earlier the FORMS use to work fine, looks like there is something that we have messed up. Not able to figure out exactly what. If i click on the any resource in EBS it just does nothing. I mean there is no action at all.
Does any one has a idea or any pointers which helps me to EBS on its original state.
Just a note: In the OPMN when i see the status for forms it says pid-->N/A and status-->Down.
Your help would be great ful to us.
    Thanking you in advance.

    Hi jemar,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
However i am working on Windows and have very less idea of Linux. The individual paths are not reflecting in windows($COMMON_TOP).
if you can provide with the relative path and little of more explanation then it would be a great help for us to resolve the issue.
    thanks once again.

  • Misplaced Library Catalog

Recently upgraded my hard drive from 1TB to 2TB and Lightroom 5 can't find the catalog. Before the upgrade, no problem. After the upgrade and a secondary fix to make Windows 7 happy, Lightroom can't find the appropriate catalog file, and any folders I select that I know I worked on, Lightroom views as a new import and no reflection of my prior work.
Set-up: Prior to hard drive upgrade, c: drive was HHD with operating system and major programs, like Lightroom. Photos, video, music, documents and other minor programs were on the 1TB drive which Windows labeled as e: and all the paths are based on the e:. Windows apparently gave d: to the DVD burner. As part of the 2TB install, Windows decided to reverse itself and made that drive d: with the DVD burner e:. That, of course created massive ciaos as Windows couldn't launch programs that were not originally installed on the HHD c: drive, or find photos or documents on e: which was now a DVD drive. I launched Lightroom  and it returned an error message that could not find catalog on e:(and a file path). Surprising that set the catalog file on e: when the program is installed on c:. Resolved the Windows mess by signing on as an administrator and reassigning the drive letters on both the 2TB drive and the DVD drive to reflect what Windows had prior to the upgrade,
All programs now work, can find photos and documents without a problem. The only problem is Lightroom finding it's past work and applying the instructions it created. It appears that Lightroom is now trying to establish it's Catalog on c: drive. How do I point it to the appropriate file on e: drive?

    Hello Ali B--
The seven folders WERE assistants, imovie, itunes mail, printer alias (which I tried to trash but another one was created), recent servers, sounds, and stickies database. Just today my home library folder created an itunes and mail folder, so now there's only five unique folders in what I'll call libraryX. As for folders in other locations (non-library). There's an assistant file in the system folder (which I think is system 9), Imovie and Itunes folders elsewhere, but only the library folder contains the plug-ins and sound effect files (and nothing else). Recent servers is supposed to be in the apple menu, but it's not visible at this time. There's another sound folder but its part of a ditzy little application in system 9.
    There's no other stickies database.
There's a lot of overlap with the sub-folder names in the other library folders, but there are plenty of folders in the other libraies that LibrayX doesn't have. There's also a lot of overlap in content, but almost none of the folders have identical contents.
I hope this answers your questions and doesn't sound like complete gibberish.
    Thanks again--Anne

  • Hotmail to mac mail

I love the style and ideas behind mac mail but have far too many people that only know me on my hotmail account to convert to another email account.
Does anyone know how I can synchronize mail for leopard with my hotmail live account?
I looked online and a couple of plug-ins were suggested - I tried them but no success - it came up with a message saying I needed to download Windows live - the advanced version of hotmail which I already have!!
Can you suggest a way for hotmail to work with mac mail leopard or suggest how I can make an easy transition to another email account supported by the application?
    Thanks

    Lynn Q wrote:
This doesn't work in the Windows Live Mail program. You actually have to sign in on the webmail for your Hotmail account at either www.msn.com or www.hotmail.com.
While forwarding your mail from Windows Live to another account that is natively compatible with Apple Mail (e.g. IMAP, POP3, etc.) is one solution to the problem, it is only a partial solution. When the forwarded messages are deleted within Apple Mail, they still exist on the Windows Live server. So the next time you log on to Windows Live, you see all of your previously deleted mail. And you have to delete it all. Again. Nor are the forward messages synced between Windows Live and Apple Mail: If a forwarded message is read, it does not become marked as read on Windows Live.
Try the httpmail plug-in. I swear it works. It is simple to set up, too -- I got it working in about 5-10 minutes. It is definitely compatible with Leopard, because that's what I use it with, and it offers major advantages over mail forwarding. All of my folders from Windows Live automatically show up in the Apple Mail sidebar, and I am able to freely move messages in and out of these folders. These changes are reflected in Windows Live. Messages I read in Apple Mail are marked as read in Windows Live, and vice-versa. Deleted messages are deleted in both applications, so I only have to do it once.
The one caveat is that you have to upgrade your free account to a Windows Live Plus account, which costs about US$30 per year.
Anyway, for those who might be interested, here is the download link:
    http://www.automagic-software.com/httpmail/httpmailleopard1.51.dmg.gz
I am not affiliated with the author of this plug-in in any way. I just think the software offers a simple and excellent solution to a common problem. Sure works for me.

  • Getting everything synched

I have a number of problems since changing PCs, reorganising my musc folder, upgrading Windows and itunes. Can anyone please help me solve this in the easiest and most efficient way?
    1) Windows/ITunes
I organised and rationlisised my music folder via windows explorer. but now my itunes library does not match the organisation of my PC music folder and I would like it to.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I have added the correct folder to my library - but ot still doesn't show accurately.
    >My preferences are set to 'Music\itunes\itunes media' and "keepitunes media folder organised". NB there's only 1 subfolder ('automatically add t itunes' which is empty) and 1 file (.itunesprefernces) in my itunesmedia folder.
    >However, my music is organised within 'Music\itunes\itunes music'.
Should the preferences point at 'Music\itunes\itunes music', and if so, how do I then get the libraryto reflect my windows folders?
    2) ITunes/Ipod synch
My itunes wasn't updating plays and ratings data, so I changed it from manual updates to auto updates as a suggested fix.
But now I'm not able to auto synch my ipod - I get an error message says I don't have sufficient privileges.
I lost all the tracks on my ipod and when I go to view the 'music' tab of the ipod in itunes, I only get a synch tick box and can;t see any files - despite there showing capacity taken up. I still get this if I switch back to manual updates.
But if I eject my ipod and view it, there are tracks - i've just lost my playlists.
So how do I get itunes to reflect my windows music folder, and synch my ipod so play and ratings data updates ipod to itunes as well as vice versa?
    All help gratefully received!

A few days ago I got an unknown error (-50), and it wouldn't let me sync. I updated to iTunes 7.0.2 and it fixed everything, if you haven't updated your iTunes, I would try that first.

I am the first to admit that this video clip is a far-fetched possibility (read, impossible from such a distance and angle), but a reflection from a much closer object (it was of a lady taking a photo around 2 metres/6 feet in front of a shopfront, to get her friend some contact details. She is [not so] clearly visible within the reflection), may be able to grab more of her details from the reflection.
I almost feel like going out and taking a picture myself to describe the situation more thoroughly, as I believe the way I worded my initial request may be misleading, as chilecayenne seemed to be misled by it. However, if anyone else could take/provide such a photo, and post it up here, I would really appreciate it.

  • Type change of existing step is not reflected in Type window

If I add a step to a sequence, that step's type def (and an EditSubstep type def) appear in the Step Types section of the Types window for the sequence file.  But if in the sequence I change the Type of the step (in the General panel of the Properties tab for the step), the change doesn't get reflected in the Type window (the original type def is still there).  In fact, I can now delete the type definition (which should be legal since it is no longer in use by the sequence) and the EditSubstep type definition, leaving the Step Types section blank.
This seems like a TestStand bug.  Everything else seems to behave fine, but is this likely to cause some sort of corruption down the line?

This does appear to be a bug. I will add it to our tracking database.
It's unlikely to cause any problems (which is probably why it's gone unnoticed for so long) because the types involved are also loaded by type palette files so they will still be in the global type list as long as those type palette files are loaded (which is usually for the life of the process). Also, when you save the file, the types that are actually used by the file will get added to the file's type usage list automatically if they weren't there already. You can see this if you save the file after doing what you've said, then go back to the type palette view for the file (NOTE: You will need to select a different file and then re-select the file to force the view to refresh if the file in question was already selected in the type palette's view).
Because a user can programmatically edit a sequence file and might forget to or not know to call TypeUsageList.AddUsedTypes() when adding instances of previously unused types, this is somewhat of an expected case that TestStand tries to handle.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions regarding this.
