Refresh Security using MaxL command

Hi All,
When trying to refresh security from shared services using the below maxl command:
alter user 'henkej03' sync security with all application;
getting the below error:

but my HSS and LDAP was up and running, I think there was temporary problem in network ... today I got error...

tried to use "resync all.." but failed...
Checked in HSS and app was not registerd..to HSS :) .. so regiseted with HSS and User was refreshed succesfully !
In case you encounter the "ERROR - 1051514", check if the app is registered to HSS or not?

Creating dimensions using MaxL commands

Is there anyway to create one or more dimensions using MaxL commands?
Also setting their parameters like "Accounts/Time", "Label Only" and "Dense/Sparse"?

Here's a sample from the documentation:
import database sample.basic dimensions
from data_file '/data/calcdat.txt'
using rules_file '/data/rulesfile.rul'
on error append to '/logs/dimbuild.log';

Rename Dimension Member using Maxl Command

I have a requirement to rename many account dimension members in the outline. Is there a way to do this via MAXL script instead of renaming each account manually via EAS/AAS? If it is doable, please provide an example how I would go about doing this?

There is not a way to do it in MaxL. MaxL does not do outline manipulation.
are you changing the alias or the member names? If you want to change the alias, then you could do it in a load rule. If you want to change the membe names it is more complicated especially if oyu want to retain data. The best way would be to use the api to read members from a table with old and new names, but you would have to write the api sequence.
There are other ways using alias tables where you have a second cube and reverse the alias and member names. export the data from the original cube and load into the second cube.

MaxL Command : ERROR - 1241101 - Unexpected Essbase error 1007083

Hi,
I have created outline here I have created one dimension i.e. Account
and also created Rule file as per databse outline. It is valid
successfully.
Now I have to load dimension by using MaxL command.
I have created Account.csv
within that I have take :
Account->xyz
xyz->abc members.
I am loading dimension by using following statement:

So I getting following error:

Hi,
As per the error message, there was a mismatch of the dimension tagging or incorrect rules. Did you try to build the dimension/members using EAS Console?
Take a simple sources file and rules file and re-build the dimension.
You can try the following:
1. Launch EAS Console and login using Administrative user credentials
2. Connect to Essbase Server using administrative user credentials
3. Create a test Application & Database say TestApp & TestDb
4. Open the outline in the edit mode and create a dimension "Measures"
5. Open the notepad and Create a source file as:
Profit Margin Sales
Profit Margin COGS
Save the file in the c:\ drive as Sales.txt
6. In EAS Console, right-click on database and select create Rules File and import the Source file
7. Set the Field Properties.
8. Build the dimension and check if the members are added to the Measures dimension
9. Delete the members under Measures and then try the MaxL Script.

How to display complete filter string using maxl.

Hi,
I am trying to retrieve the strings for all the filters in an application which have read access enabled. Now, I have tried using MaxL command "Display Filter row". But, it only returns the first one or two members in the string but not the complete string. Please let me know if anyone finds a solution for the same.

you most likely need to use the Set Display Column Width in the MaxL statement. by default it is only 20 characters and my might need hundreds.
You might try set column_width 200; and see if it is wide enough

Using substitution variable with multiple values in Maxl Command

Hi All,
Is there any option to use multiple values in 1 substitution variable and use them in a Maxl command.
alter database $app_name.$db_name clear data in region '{CrossJoin(CrossJoin(CrossJoin({StrTOMbr(&Months)},{XXX, YYY}),{StrTOMbr(&CURYR)}), {ZZZ})}'physical;
In the above case
Maxl is not working if I have multiple months in &Months Substitution variable.
Let me know if there is an alternate option to implement this.

Script to export Security file using maxl script

can anyone provide me the Script to export Security file using maxl script.It should create a log file and a batch file should also be there to schedule the Maxl script.Please help me with this

You can use something like
[b]login admin password on localhost;
[b]spool on to 'c:\temp\log.txt';
[b]export security_file to data_file C:\temp\sec_file.txt;
[b]spool off;
[b]logout;
Then you can have a batch file that just calls the maxl script
essmsh name_of_maxl_script.mxl
The batch script can then be scheduled.

There is no way to alter an outline with MaxL, MaxL is an admin language for processing. The only option, as Glenn mentioned is to issue the reset all command to blow away everything. But you probably don't want to do that, so instead you use Maxl to run a series of load rules to achieve your goal.
Load rules do not have functionality to delete outline members, it does have a feature however that allows you to remove unspecified members from a dimension build, so when loading in your members, if existing members are not in the import, they are removed. So Glenn's point was to create a source file with a single dummy member. When you load using "Remove Unspecified" it will delete all the members and just keep the one dummy member. Then when you go back a second time and actually load the real members, the dummy member will be removed and you will have a clean dim with only your new members. This is a work around solution, but it's what a lot of people do.
Now if you have 15 dimensions you need to do this with, you might want to take a slightly different approach. I'm assuming 15 dimensions is probably an ASO cube and this method will be preferable to avoid outline fragmentation.
Create a copy of your outline with all the base dimensions that do not change intact. For the ones that do change, just have your dim root member. Consider this your starting outline template and save a copy of it. When you want to rebuild your cube have a server process that takes the copy of your template outline and copies it over your existing outline file in the directory structure. Then run your load rules to import your new members.

Cannot Connect to Essbase Server Using MaxL

After installing and configuring planning. I was able to create data source and application. When I shot down and restart the machine. The diagnostics report highlighted these srrors
EPMVAL - 01010 can not connect to Essbase server using MaxL
Network Error - 10061 unable connect to oracle.vision.com:1423. the client timed out waiting to connect Essbase Agent using TCP/IP

Issue while starting AdminSerever using wlst commands

Hi, I am facing issue while trying to start the AdminServer and Managed Server via nodemanager using wlst commands. I have installelled WebLogic 11g on windows 2008 R2. Mentioned below are the steps that I followed:
1) In Nodemanager.properties files I set following parameters to true. I did this, so that nodemanager can start the server in case of crash.
CrashRecoveryEnabled=true
StartScriptEnabled=true
2) started nodemanager and then started AdminServer from the command prompt as follows:
nmConnect('weblogic','password','10.23.226.58','5556','IMDomain','E:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\IMDomain','ssl')
nmStart('AdminServer')
I dont see any errors but it seems the AdminServer do Not start properly as in the cmd window I don't see any 'started successfully' message - the message remains as *"Starting AdminServer..."*
However in the adminServer logs I see that the status is Running (refer logs at the end) and I can also see it as Running in weblogic console.
I really didnt care if its not giving a success message in cmd window but the problem occurs when I start the managedServer. After starting the managed server in about 10 minutes, there is a stuck thread. (I guess it is 10 mins because Stuck Thread MaxTime value is 600).
If I set StartScriptEnabled=false, and start by directly running the startweblogic.cmd then it works fine.
I am struggling with this for last 1 week, appreciate any help.

Implement row-level security using Oracleu2019s Virtual Private Databases (VPD)

Environment: Business Objects XI R2; Oracle 10g
Functional Requirement:
Implement row-level security using Oracleu2019s Virtual Private Databases (VPD) technology. The restriction is that the Business Objects Universe connection should use a generic/u201Capplicationu201D database user account. This will allow the organization to avoid the situation where the Business Objects password and the Oracle password need to be kept in synch.
What do we need from the Business Objects support team?
1.     Review the 2 attempted solutions that we have tried to implement
2.     Propose solutions/answers to open questions for each of the attempted solutions
3.     Propose any alternate solution that will help us implement the Function Requirement stated above
Attempted Solution 1: Connection String uses Oracle Proxy User
The connection string that is specified in the Universe is the following:
app_user[end_user]/app_user_pwdarrobaDatabase.WORLD
app_user = generic application user
end_user = the oracle account of the end user which is set using arrobaVariable('BOUSER') app_user_pwd = password of the generic application user
We have tried and implemented this in our test environment. However, we have some questions and concerns around how the connections are reused in a connection pool environment.
Open Question for Solution 1:
i. What happens when multiple proxy users try to connect on at the same time? Business Objects shares the generic app_user connect string. However, every user that logs on will have their own unique proxy user credentials. Will there be any contention involved? If so, what kind of errors can we expect?
ii. If a user logs on using his credentials (proxy user), and business objects opens up a connection to the database using that user's credentials (as the proxy user but logging in through the generic app user). Then the user exits out --> based on our test today, it seems like the database connection remains open. In that case, if another user logs on similarly with their credentials, will business objects simply assign the first users connection to that second user? If so, then our security will not work. Is there a way that Business Objects can somehow ensure that everytime we close a report, the connection is also terminated both at the BO and DB levels?
iii. Our 3rd question is general high level -> How connection pooling works in general and how it is implemented in BO, i.e. how are new connections assigned, how are they recycled, how are they closed, etc.
Attempted Solution 2: Using the ConnectInit parameter
Reading through a couple of the Business Objects documents, it states that u201CUsing the ConnectInit parameter it is possible to send commands to the database when opening the session which can be used to set database specific parameters used for optimization.u201D
Therefore, we tried to set the parameter in the Universe using several different options:
ConnectInit = BEGIN SYSTEM.prc_logon('arrobaVARIABLE('BOUSER')'); COMMIT; END; ConnectInit = BEGIN DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER('arrobaVariable('BOUSER')'); COMMIT; END;
Neither of the above iterations or any variation of that seemed to work. It seems that the variable is not being set or being u201Cexecutedu201D on the database.
One of the Business Objects documents had stated that Patch ID 38, 977, 350 must be installed in our BO environments. We have verified that this patch has been applied on our system.
Open Questions for Solution 2:
How do we get the parameter ConnectInit to work? i.e. what is the proper syntax to enter and what other things do we need to check to get this to work.

the connectinit setting should look something like this:
declare a date; begin vpd_setup('@VARIABLE('BOUSER')'); Commit; end;
The vpd_setup procedure (in Oracle) should look like this:
CREATE OR REPLACE procedure vpd_setup (p_user varchar)IS

DBMS_SESSION.set_vpd( 'SESSION_VALUES', 'USERID', p_user );
END vpd_setup;
Then you can retrieve the value of the context variable in your vpd functions
and set the vpd.

Getting Errors while using IMPDP command in UNIX

Hi All,
My work involves Refreshing of DB with latest Data. For this i am using IMPDP command to import the data. But Every time during refresh i will get errors saying like "oracle Generated Errors Oracle Not available".
I don't know what is the reason for getting this error, and that too my db goes down after this error. Again i will startup the db , and i will try my luck to complete the process.
so please tell me what are the actual problems that might cause the IMPDP to be failed.
with one advise , i have stopped my listener and done the importing, Interestingly this time IMPDP works without errors. But this is also not always working.
But i feel that every time starting and stopping the listener is not the correct solution.
so please help me in this regard.

Using UNIX command to copy desktop files/folders

Hello All. I need help using UNIX command(s) to copy text documents and or folders from my lab computers to my desktop at home. Since I have such a slow connection, I think this will work best. I need help with the cp command and the path mostly. Since all files would be in folders on the desktop (including documents (that "missed" the folders), I believe I could simply copy desktop contents? Thanks, J Langlois

What you want to do is SCP (secure copy) your documents to your remote host.
send this command to the computer with the documents
scp ~/Desktop/FILEOR_FOLDERNAME USERNAME@REMOTE_COMPUTER:~/Desktop/
Replace all the stuff in UPPERCASE with the correct vales for your situation.
