Refresh to New Server with different file system

Dear Gurus,
We are having our Production DB,Test and RMAN in 10.2.0.3. We are trying to refresh TEST database with production db with last months backups and I've few queries.
Below is the filesystems:
Prod: /u99 for backup
Test: /ttu/t99 for backup
Datafiles locations are different and I can use either "SET NEWNAME" or "DB_FILENAME_CONVERT".
My production uses catalog database RMAN.
How can we duplicate test db with production (having catalog) with different backup locations on both systems. We don't have permissions to create similar directory structure on test machine.
With this I only left with restoring the production db on test server and then renaming the database. But, I want to know, if there's any possibility with RMAN directly to refresh TEST db.
Please help me.
Regards,
Kumar

If you want copy database to different OS, the n you must use transportable tablespaces
see more : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/ontbltrn.htm
if you want copy database to same OS, then you can use backup based - DUPLICATE command or disaster recovery with is you shall use RESTORE database with SET NEWNAME option.

  • Btrfs with different file systems for different mount points?

    Hey,
    I finally bought a SSD, and I want to format it to f2fs (and fat to boot on UEFI) and install Arch on it, and in my old HDD I intend to have /home and /var and  try btrfs on them, but I saw in Arch wiki that btrfs "Cannot use different file systems for different mount points.", it means I cannot have a / in f2fs and a /home in btrfs? What can I do? Better use XFS, ZFS or ext4 (I want the faster one)?
    Thanks in advance and sorry my english.

    pedrofleck wrote:Gosh, what was I thinking, thank you! (I still have a doubt: is btrfs the best option?)
    Just a few weeks ago many of us were worrying about massive data loss due to a bug introduced in kernel 3.17 that caused corruption when using snapshots. Because btrfs is under heavy developement, this sort of thing can be expected. That said, I have my entire system running with btrfs. I have 4 volumes, two raid1, a raid0 and a jbod. I also run rsync to an ext4 partition and ntfs. Furthermore I make offline backups as well.
    If you use btrfs make sure you have backups and make sure you are ready to use them. Also, make sure you check sum your backups. rsync has the option to use checksums in place of access times to determine what to sync.

  • Cannot uninstall Exchange 2013 from Server with REFS file system

    EX2013 SP1 installed fine on the 2012 R2 server with REFS, but now I need to remove it and reinstall. When I go to uninstall it, I get an error that "the specified installation directory must be located on a NTFS file system". I have tried
    via control panel and command line.
    I could avoid the uninstall if I could replace the Enterprise Edition license key with a standard key. the "Change License Key" option only allows you to go from standard to enterprise.
    Any advice on either issues? (uninstall from REFS or change enterprise key to standard key)
    According to the below TechNet article REFS is supported for an install, but maybe not an uninstall

    Hi,
    1. I suggest romving previous Exchange server via ADSIEdit.
    NOTE: It is better to try the steps with the assistance of a MS support. Do remember to backup the AD.
    2. Then reformat the file system to NTFS.
    3. Last, reinstall the new standard Exchange version.
    Thanks

    It just forks a process or a thread, and that's it.And the listener is a single point of failure. Listener goes down, you can't connect to the db. That's why you need two listeners.If listener one goes down, then listener two goes down for exact same reason since it is a single executable file.I'm not playing tit-for-tat with you. Fact is, there are situations where people who are not you might want to use more than one listener.Some folks might want to jab a sharp pencil into their eye, too.
    Just because you can do something, it does not necessarily mean it should be done.

  • Moving DP Content to a New Server With Same Name

    We are currently in the middle of a server OS refresh from 2k8 to 2k12 R2. Some of the servers are DPs so I need to move the content from one server to another. The big problem is that the new server must have the same name.
    I've read this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1ffcaa47-9bf8-476d-965e-28350a6bef1b/move-content-from-old-dp-to-new-dp-at-same-remote-site?forum=configmanagerapps which kind of covers my issue but I presume this person was going to
    a server with a new name.
    Has anyone done this? Is it possible?
    Unless there is something clever the only way I see to do this is to uninstall the DP role from the current server, remove the current server from the domain, add the new server with the same name, re-install the DP role and then re-distribute all the content
    to the new server. I'd rather not do this as the DP is on a remote site so all the content will be going over the WAN.
    I am running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    >>So can I pre-stage from the old server to the new server or does the pre-staging have to be done from the site server?
    Yes, you could prestage content from the old server to the new server. Prestaged content files could be created from Configuration Manager Administrator Console.
    >>What is the order of the process?
    The following blog could help you to prestage content.

  • How to use the same OC4j server with different port number

    How to use the same OC4j server with different port numbers..?
    I have to OC4J installed on my machine on different hard disk drives....
    I want to be able to run both the server simultaneously..?
    is it possible ..it yes then how..?
    for that i have changed the port number of one server...
    but when i am trying to start the other server with different port number..it says that JVM -Bind already...
    Is there any clues...?

    In the config directory:
    default-web-site.xml: Change the port the HTTP listener listens on
    jms.xml: Change the port the JMS service listens on
    rmi.xml: Change the port the ORMI listener listens on.
    Or, you can add another web-site.xml file, and deploy your applications to 1 server, and bind the web applications to the different web sites. This way you only have to deploy your applications to 1 place.

  • IPop Use with different operating systems Windows And Mac Osx

    so the quetion is this can i use my IPod with different Operatin systems?
    I have a MacBook at home where i keep all my Music in and at the office i have a Windows network i would like to carry some music from home to the office using my IPod. I thought that a solution is to Partition my Ipod 40G in 2 parts and have one of them FAT so that my Windows operating system can view it.
    Did any of you done it? and if so How? did you loose the use of some of the IPod functions?
    let me Know if there are ways to carry music using your Ipod from the MacOSX to Windows Prof or home edition thanks!
    Donatello

    Your problem has nothing to do with data vs music. Music IS data. I've used my iPod for data and music since the first iPod was released. There's no reason to think the two OS versions are involved either.
    Look at your usage practices - and I'm not necessarily suggesting you are abusing your computer. Has one of your computers crashed while the iPod was connected? This could cause data damage that might explain the problem. Have you ever disconnected the iPod without un-mounting it first?
    You might also be creating fragmentation problems if you frequently add and remove data files while at the same time adding and removing music. One decision I made when I was using my iPod to transport lots of movies and photos for a project was to NOT make any music changes during that busy two week period.

  • Moving oracle database to a new server with an upgraded oracle software

    Hi Guys,
    Here is the scenario, we have an existing Oracle 9.2 demo database on a Solaris 5.9 server. I was asked to transfer this to another server with same OS but with an Oracle 10g software installed. The original plan was to mount the exisiting Oracle home from the original server to the new server and from there copy all the database files and bring up the database.
    Here are the steps:
    - Issue an "alter database backup controlfile to trace", get the script from the trace file
    - Copy all database files to the new server
    - Edit parameter files
    - Do a startup mount recreate the control files, do a recover database, and startup the database on the new server.
    I suggested that we to a transport tablespace but due to limited resources and that the 9.2 database does not have this feature we can't perform this process. I also can't do a exp/imp of the database since we really have limited resources on a disk. I was wondering if the steps I enumerated above are correct? Or would result in an error?

    Hi,
    why you want to recreate the controlfile, does the mount point locations are changing from old server to new server?
    if you recreating controlfile new incarnation starts, keep in mind.
    you have the downtime to upgrade.. :)
    shutdown
    take cold backup and move to new server.
    create the directory structure as exist in PFILE including CRD files.
    install software
    startup upgrade
    upgrade database(need to add sysaux TBS)
    shut immediate
    startup
    *@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql*
    change hostname in listner.ora/tnsnames.ora files.
    Thanks

  • SBS2008: Move email from Exchange 2007 to new server with Exchange 2013

    We have an old server (SBS2008) and plan to buy a new server with (Server 2012). I need to move all the exchange emails, contacts & calendars to the new server. We will no longer use the old server.
    Is there a document or migration tool that will help me understand how to move this data form the old exchange server to the new one?
    Old Server:
    SBS2008 running Exchange 2007
    New Server:
    Server 2012
    Exchange 2013
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Dave,
    It can be done, and as Larry suggested you will consider two Server 2012 installs in order to achieve an environment that looks like your current SBS roles; Exchange 2013 on an Active Directory controller isn't a good long-term solution (SBS did this for
    you in the past).
    For your size operation, a virtual server host, with a Windows Server 2012 license, and two virtual machines would probably be a suitable design model.  In this manner, you have Server 2012 license that permits 1 +2 licenses (one host for virtualization,
    up to 2 Virtual Machines on same host).
    There's no migration tool. That comes with experience and usually trial and error. You earn the skills in this migration path, and for the average SBS support person you should plan on spending 3x (or more) your efforts estimate in hours planning your migration.
    You can find a recommended migration path at this link to give you an idea of the steps, but its not exactly point by point going to cover you off for an sbs2008 to server 2012 w/exchange 2013 migration.  But the high points are in here. If it looks
    like something you would be comfortable with then you should research more.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/infratalks/archive/2012/09/07/transition-from-small-business-server-to-standard-windows-server.aspx
    Specific around integrating Exchange 2013 into an Exchange 2007 environment, guidance for that can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898582(v=exchg.150).aspx
    If that looks like something beyond your comfort level, then you might consider building a new 2012 server with Exchange 2013 environment out as new, manually export your exchange 2007 mailbox contents (to PST) and then import them into the new mail server,
    and migrate your workstations out of old domain into new domain.  Whether this is more or less work at your workstation count is dependent upon a lot of variables.
    If you have more questions about the process, update the thread and we'll try to assist.
    Hopefully this info answered your original question.

  • Confusion with OCFS2 File system for OCR and Voting disk RHEL 5, Oracle11g,

    Dear all,
    I am in the process of installing Oracle 11g 3 Node RAC database
    The environment on which i have to do this implementation is as follows:
    Oracle 11g.
    Red Hat Linux 5 x86
    Oracle Clusterware
    ASM
    EMC Storage
    250 Gb of Storage drive.
    SAN
    As of now i am in the process of installing Oracle Clusterware on the 3 nodes.
    I have performed these tasks for the cluster installs.
    1. Configure Kernel Parameters
    2. Configure User Limits
    3. Modify the /etc/pam.d/login file
    4. Configure Operating System Users and Groups for Oracle Clusterware
    5. Configure Oracle Clusterware Owner Environment
    6. Install CVUQDISK rpm package
    7. Configure the Hosts file
    8. Verify the Network Setup
    9. Configure the SSH on all Cluster Nodes (User Equivalence)
    9. Enable the SSH on all Cluster Nodes (User Equivalence)
    10. Install Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2)
    11.Verify the Installation of Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2)
    12. Configure the OCFS2 (/etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf)
    13. Configure the O2CB Cluster Stack for OCFS2
    BUT, here after i am a little bit confused on how to proceed further. The next step is to Format the disk and mount the OCFS2, Create Software Directories... so and so forth.
    I asked my system admin to provide me two partitions so that i could format them with OCFS2 file system.
    He wrote back to me saying.
    *"Is what you want before I do it??*
    */dev/emcpowera1 is 3GB and formatted OCFS2.*
    */dev/emcpowera2 is 3GB and formatted OCFS2.*
    *Are those big enough for you? If not, I can re-size and re-format them*
    *before I mount them on the servers.*
    *the SAN is shared storage. /dev/emcpowera is one of three LUNs on*
    *the shared storage, and it's 214GB. Right now there are only two*
    *partitions on it- the ones I listed below. I can repartition the LUN any*
    *way you want it.*
    *Where do you want these mounted at:*
    */dev/emcpowera1*
    */dev/emcpowera2*
    *I was thinking if this mounting techique would work like so:*
    *emcpowera1: /u01/shared_config/OCR_config*
    *emcpowera2: /u01/shared_config/voting_disk*
    *Let me know how you'd like them mounted."*
    Please recommend me what i should convey to him so that i can ask him to the exact same thing.
    My second question is, as we are using ASM, for which i am gonna configure ASM after clusterware installation, should i install Openfiler??
    Pls refer the enviroment information i provided above and make recommendations.
    As of now i am using Jeffery Hunters guide to install the entire setup. You think the entire install guide goes well with my enviroment??

    Kind regards

    Thanks for ur reply Mufalani,
    You have managed to solve half part of my query. But still i am stuck with what kind of mount point i should ask the system admin to create for OCR and Voting disk. Should i go with the mount point he is mentioning??
    Let me put forth few more questions here.
    1. Is 280 MB ok for OCR and voting disks respectively??
    2. Should i ask the system admin to create 4 voting disk mount points and two for ocr??
    3. As mentioned by the system admin.
    */u01/shared_config/OCR_config*
    */u01/shared_config/voting_disk*
    Is this ok for creating the ocr and voting disks?
    4. Can i use OCFS2 file system for formating the disk instead of using them as RAW device!!?
    5. As u mentioned that Openfiler is not needed for Configuring ASM... Could you provide me the links which will guide me to create partition disks, voting disks and ocr disks!! I could not locate them on the doc or else were. I did find a couple of them, but was unable to identify a suitable one for my envoirement.

  • Migrating Non ASM, Non RMAN to New Server with ASM and RMAN - Possible?

    We currently have a database ( Oracle 10g R1 ) on a Sun Solaris server that is NOT using ASM or RMAN. The database is about 300GB. We are getting a new server and we want to install Oracle 10g R2 with ASM and RMAN and migrate the database.
    I have seen the documentation on migrating non ASM to an ASM server but the methods all use RMAN. Is it possible to migrate to an ASM database without using RMAN? Would datapump import/export work if I created a new database on the new server with all the same tablespaces? Or, do I have to bite the bullet, install RMAN on the old server and do the backup?
    Thanks.

    If you're not using RMAN that doesn't mean you can't use it to perform a single backup, rman is contained in every oracle RDBMS installation version 10G or higher.
    this is only a sample of how to do it
    RMAN> CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '<file_system_path>/%U.DBF';
    --first we allocate the channel default channel.
    RMAN>RUN
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL DEFAULTCHANNEL TYPE DISK;
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    STARTUP MOUNT;
    BACKUP DATABASE;
    SHUTDOWN
    }then once you have it, you can do what you want.
    It should also be possible to manually restore the database from the original datafiles but it's better to follow the solution involving RMAN.
