Reg Oracle 8i to Oracle 9i migration Java

The following java stored program which works fine in Oracle 8i (8.1.7) throws an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds Exception in Oracle 9i (9.2.0.4).
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.lang.*;
public class chk extends Object
public static String chk_args (String[] args)
return args[0];
call spec:
function CHK_ARGS( p_cmd in varchar2) return VARCHAR2
as
language java
name 'chk.chk_args(java.lang.String[]) return java.lang.String';
Can any one highlight about this?

Also, I advice you to take the statspack (in fact couple of report) for performancecomparsion in case there is any degradation in performance after migrating to 9i. There are may cases where this has been report, i.e. drastic degradation in the performance after migrating from 8i to 9i. I advice you to apply the latest patch i.e. 9206 without fail as it has resolved so many bugs and more importantly fixed optimizer problems.
If you have metalink support, just GOOGLE for migrating 8i to 9i and you will see N number good advice from oracle.
If you need any advice from me, you can email me directly at [email protected]

• What are the Issues in Migration from oracle 8i to oracle 10g

Hi,
Can you let me know what are the issues that i face when i migrate from oracle 8i to oracle 10g. I will be very thankful if you give me a list of issues that you face while migrating from 8i to 10g

In addition to Max's reply, you must be aware that you have to test your applications agains 10g database before you actually upgrade the database.
If you use CBO, it may produce different execution plans for one query when you run it in 8i and 10g. This may affect your application performances, which you don't like to happen.
Also you have to decide how much downtime you can afford during the migration. Can you afford some downtime and how much? If you can't than this makes the situation more complicated.
How big is your database? You may end up only with simple export/import solution using export import utility.
The bottom line is, whatever you decide, you must test your applications running against 10g database before you actually upgrade your database.

• Issue in Oracle 11g Database Change Notification for Java application

Hi,
I am trying to use Oracle's Database Change Notification in Java application.
I followed the sample application (+DBChangeNotification.java+ , Example 29-2), provided in the following link:
+[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31224/dbmgmnt.htm#CHDEJECF]+
I am able to see that the Registration of the SQL query is successful.
But, when I do changes to the table registered, notifications are not received in the Listener class (+DCNDemoListener.java+).
Ideally, the method DCNDemoListener.onDatabaseChangeNotification() should be invoked on any insert/update to the registered table. But this method is not getting invoked.
The execution has stopped in the following line of DBChangeNotification.java Class.
this.wait();
+==> The application was WAITing indefinitely in this line, as the NOTIFY() from DCNDemoListener.java was not executed.+
I am using VPN to connect to Oracel server. Remote Oracle Server is protected my firewall. Is this the reason for not sending the notifications from Oracle server?
The version of software used are given below:
Oracle Client - Oracle 11.1.0
JDK - 1.6
Oracle JDBC Driver - ojdbc6.jar
Can someone help me to resolve this issue?
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Sam

Hi,
I am having similar issue. Where you able to resolve it.
I am also using the same example you were using.
I am using the following version.
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
Compatibility: 11.2.0.0.0
I do not see any notification coming back from the DB.
Appreciate your help.

We have deployed our ADF application in production. We developed using JDeveloper Version 11.1.2.1.0. In this inputComboboxListOfValues component, we get this error sometimes in production and we are neither able to re-produce the error nor able to find the reason for the error.

Timo,
I noticed that in the application module, these are the settings for passsivation:
jbo.dofailover=false
jbo.passivationstore=null
Do you recommend to change to above settings to
jbo.dofailover=true
jbo.passivationstore=file
We are not using cluster for production environment...
Please suggest..

• Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken?

Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken? For example, try searching for SocketChannel and then clicking on any of the returned links, in particular click on www.oracle.com/technetwork/servers-storage/ts-4222-159193.pdf.
This is the second time I have tried to search for Java information and both times found broken links.
Does anyone know where I can find more information on using a SocketChannel?

Why are most of the links on Oracle's site that relate to Java broken?Because Oracle doesn't really care about Java and is hoping that it'll die off.Pretty sure Oracle cares about Java. They have a huge investment in it and would need to replace or discontinue a number of products that they paid quite a bit of money for.
On the other hand in might just be that they don't much about providing support that doesn't lead to revenue. Thus support contracts have a support channel while public links get little support.

• Oracle Workflow Manager, Agent Listener, and Java Mailer problem

Hi,
I am not sure this topic to this forum, since this might be installation issue.
But I am hitting a big wall.
I had Windows 2000 SP4.
I have already installed Oracle Database 10gR1, Oracle Developer 10gR2, and Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 Standalone previously.
Including :
- Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3
- Oracle Workflow Builder 2.6.3.5
- Apache HTTP Server 9.0.4
- Workflow Middle Tier
Anything seems to right, including the Notification Mailer and the Business Event.
And I had also made backup of them surely.
Now,
I'd like to change into Oracle Database 10gR2 because :
1. Some errors I found when I tried to call a Report from Oracle Form.
Unable to connect to Report Server ...
I thought Oracle Database 10gR1 is not suitable for Oracle Developer 10gR2.
2. And in the OWF 2.6.3 Workflow Home Page, there was no Logout button (which I found in OWF 2.6.4)
I removed my previous installation including Oracle Workflow.
After strugglineg in the installation of Oracle Database 10gR2, now I am facing another problem with Oracle Workflow.
I succesfully installed Oracle Workflow 2.6.4 Server and Oracle Workflow Manager (standalone version),
and the Oracle Workflow Middle Tier.
After I launch Oracle Workflow Configuration Assisstant, everthing seems to be normal.
I succed to open the Oracle Workflow Home Page (and found the Logout button there)
Next, I tried to navigate to the Oracle Workflow Manager.
1. I start the OC4J_Workflow_Management_Container --> initialized
2. OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container
The following error line appeared in the OC4J command prompt
06/05/26 10:31:40 LOG_ID_UNKNOWN : oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.Logger.Logger(String,
int) : Logging to System.out until necessary parameters are retrieved for Logger

initialized
3. finally it initialized
Next I tried to go to Oracle Workflow Manager from related link of Enterprise Manager
It is said that the OWF_MGR is locked
(I surprised since I had UNLOCKED the OWF_MGR after the installation and succeed to login at the Workflow Home Page)
And the following error line appeared in the commaned prompt after that
06/05/26 10:35:03 OrionCMTConnection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 Logical connection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 (Use -Djdbc.connection.debug=true to find out where the leaked
connection was created)
4. I re-UNLOCK the OWF_MGR and login to Oracle Workflow Manager
I noticed that the Agent Listener and Notification Service is Unavailable
(In OWF 2.6.3, The Agent Listener was started and Notification Service was waiting to be configured)
I tried to start one of the Agent Listener, but the following error appeared
ERROR: The Service Component Container is not running
Well, I had the same problem when installing the OWF 2.6.3
I tried to uninstall (remove) and re-install it like I had done before in OWF 2.6.3
(based on someone's post in Oracle's forum)
But this time, the re-installation won't fix this problem. (It was succeed in the OWF 2.6.3)
Everytime I start the OC4J, using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
the OWF_MGR is re-LOCKED(TIME) automatically.
And the servlet (WFALSNRSVC and WFMLRSVC) are not running.
I am worry, since I cannot use the Notification Mailer if this problem had not fixed yet.
(In OWF 2.6.3, the mailer was not available until those servlet is Started)
Sorry for the long post.
Any help would be grateful.
Many thanks,
Buntoro

Hi,
Finally, I have found the solution.
Step :
1. Start all of the Oracle Service, except for the OC4J
If you have already started OC4J, then stop them
Unlocked the <wf_manager_user>
2. Search in your Oracle Home : data-sources.xml
There should be two files,
one is in the ...\OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container\application-deployments\WFALSNRSVCApp
the other is in ...\OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container\application-deployments\WFMLRSVCApp
3. Make sure, you create back up of them.
4. Replace the following line
password="->pwForOwfMgr"
with
password="<your_wf_manager_password>",
should be look like this
password="a"
5. Now start the OC4J using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
6. Next, login to the Oracle Workflow Manager
This worked for me.
Hope this will help someone who has the same problem.

You can either use Oracle Database Migration Assistant Utility installed with Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i or you can use Perform Export Backup of Oracle 7 using EXP73 and then Import that file into Oracle 8i using IMP (Oracle 8i Import Utility).

• Checklist for migration from oracle 9i to oracle 10g DB

Hi all,
My previous DB was Oracle 9i.I want to migrate it to Oracle 10g DB.
So can anybody provide me the checklist for the same ?
Thanks in advance....

It doesn't matter how long this process may take to read the entire upgrade documentation. You are supposed to perform this procedure first on a testing environment prior to perform it against the actual production database, you can take all the time you need to customize trim and tailor the procedure to your particular environment requirements. Don't expect anybody else to provide a shortcut, you will find at the end it will take you more time to correct missing upgrade steps and you will -most probably- have to read much more google references and metalink documents that will size bigger than the upgrade guide.
I suggest you to read through the upgrade document, and don't look for shortcuts. I also suggest you to document issues you may find when performing the upgrade. In my particular scenario I had to deal with an ORA-04030 error, among other things after I performed an upgrade process. You may want to take a look at the not documented Issues I had to face after a production upgrade, and even though I read through the upgrade guide and performed several testing upgrades, there are issues such as user's actual workload that cannot be accurately measured in a testing environment.

• Java App connection to an Oracle Database through Oracle Stored Procedure

My team's access to its Databases (Oracle only) is restricted to access through Oracle Stored Procedures that are part of the Oracle Database. So, in my Java App I need to call the Stored Procedure that will give me the access to the table that I need, declare the right parameters and execute the command. The Stored Procedure will then hand me the data I need.
I am finding support on the web for creating Stored Procedures in Java, but that is not what I need.
Can anyone post here a class that addresses this, or point me to a link that will shed some light on it?
Thanks

I am looking for Java code that will do what this .NET code below does (connects to a database and writes data to the table through an Oracle stored procedure that is part of the Oracle Database.)
So learn Java, learn JDBC and translate the requirements; don't attempt to translate the code as the platforms are too different.
From a quick glance it looks like a JDBC CallableStatement can do the job.

Hello,
I suiggets you're using MSIE
The Microsoft Java Machine has some differents with standart Sun JVM, so the "Diagram" applet doesn't work
Install the Sun Java SDK v 1.4.1 or high. You may get it from http://java.sun.com
Check the box "Use Java2 v.1.4...."
in your IE: Tools->Properties->Addition properties->Java(Sun)

• Oracle Apex to Oracle Apps Forms migration

Is it possible to migrate a form exsisting in Oracle Apex to Oracle apps forms?If so pl tell me how this could be achieved.

Hey men!!
In my opinio in not posible because in oracle Apex you have another kind of programming, and in Oracle forms you others type of tools for example: triggers, I said isn'tr posible because there isn't a tool or an application that can help you in convert from Apex to Form, it's very extrange circumstance.
This is posible but... you have to program, typing and all of anything for converting to Oracle Form if you don't want to do anything you have to pay someone for developing that ,
in others words you have/must (to) start from the beginning,
from zero.
Unfortunately today there is not application that can let you do that.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards my buddy.

• SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10.2.0.4 Migration

Hi,
While converting from SQL Server 2005 DB to Oracle 10.2.0.4 , The data migration completed.

Oracle Char Set set to Unicode(AL32UTF8)
After the migration all the chinese and Japanese chars are showing up as "?" In oracle DB. How to overcome this?
I have used Oracle Sql developer for the migration.
modified bcp command as follows:
bcp "abc.dbo.FONT" out "[abc].[dbo].[FONT].dat" -q -c -CRAW -t "<EOFD>" -r "<EORD>" -T -S<Servername> - Data got loded, but the charset is problem
bcp "abc.dbo.FONT" out "[abc].[dbo].[FONT].dat" -q -c -C850 -t "<EOFD>" -r "<EORD>" -T -S<Servername> - Data got loded, but the charset is problem

Any help on this pls??

Hello,
please have a look at the following forum thread:
Arabic data migration problem
Just replace "arabic" by "chinese" or "japanese" in your mind if you read that thread, and let me know whether it is helpful for you.

• Link/checklist for migrating applications from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g?Help

Hi all,
We need to perform an impact analysis on migratiing an application from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g. Does any of you have a detailed checklist to follow, in terms of queries, PL/SQL statements, optimizer etc. etc., when attempting this migration. We require something more specific from the application point of view rather than a DBA point of view.
Additionally, we have queries written extensively with rule hints. Should there be a special consideration for the same since now we are moving to CBO in 11g
Even if any one has a link, that would help. Thank you so much!

Hi Nikhil,
Thanks Xaheer,You're welcome :)
I'm going through the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/toc.htm
But it still mentions stuff from a DBA angle. I need from an application angle.
Do I need to change my queries taht are current written with RBO? Do I need to change Pl/SQL blocks ?Please refer tech below notes:
*1)TROUBLESHOOTING: Server Upgrade Results in Slow Query Performance -- 160089.1*
*2)TESTING SQL PERFORMANCE IMPACT OF AN ORACLE 9i TO ORACLE DATABASE 10g RELEASE 2 UPGRADE WITH SQL PERFORMANCE ANALYZER -- 562899.1*
Before upgrading your production database, please perform upgrade of test database and do complete testing.
