Reg. table maintenance generator and function group

I am trying to create a table maintenance for a custom table. It is asking for a function group. Should I create a new function group for each table maintenance I generate?

You can also assign authorization groups to tables to avoid users accessing tables using general access tools (such as transaction SE16). A user requires not only authorization to execute the tool, but must also have authorization to be permitted to access tables with the relevant group assignments. For this case, we deliver tables with predefined assignments to authorization groups. The assignments are defined in table TDDAT; the checked authorization object is S_TABU_DIS.
You can assign a table to authorization group Z000. (Use transaction SM30 for table TDDAT) A user that wants to access this table must have authorization object S_TABU_DIS in his or her profile with the value Z000 in the field DICBERCLS (authorization group for ABAP Dictionary objects).

When we generate a TMG, a function group with two function modules, two screens and some includes will get generated.
This function modules and screens get called dynamically through SM30.

Field validation in table maintenance generator and input value grey out.

i have created ztable with 3 fields as em_no,em_no and addrnumber.
first two fields are custom fields but the third custom field need to validate the standard table adrc contains the value of the field addrnumber.
i need the query of field validation query which we write in create entry events in table maintenance generator and also if we give wrong value for addrnumber in sm30 maintain table, the input field need not to be grey out for next entry...
please help.

>before saving data.....write the logic between the method
go to utilities->table maintanance ,,,after creating generator ---go to envirnment->modification->events.
create event -.>.as zsave select event type 1(before saving data to table) write code in include....
consider data for field3 is 10 .
lv_new = ztbr(table name)-field3.
select field3 from ADRC(ZTABLE) into wa_new (TYPE ZTABLE) where field3 = lv_new.
if sy-subrc = 0.
     working fine
     else.
    message i888(sabapdocu) with 'data invalid'.
endform.

Table maintenance generator and Change pointers

If a Ztable contains table maintenance generator, then the change pointers will not work?

If you want make active your change pointers for your Ztable, then in your Zfields, get into the Data element and click futher Characteristics tab, there you have one check box called Change document, Check that box and activate your data element again.Now your Zfield changes will reflect in CDHDR and CDPOS.

when i am creating table maintenance generator , it asks for function group
i give 0MB8 , it says u r going to change function group which does not belongs to u,
then i created a function group yfg9 and given , it then says yfg9 cannot be processed.
please telll me how to create the table maintenance generator for maintenance view yv_mmim_rep_cust.

Hi ,
Table Maintenance generator is used to maintain data in table , instead of giving access to se11 , we create a tcode for this table maintenance generator and we will give this tcode to end-user to maintain data
To generate table Maintenance generator :
click on UTILITIES in menu bar
-> table maintenance generator
-> enter Authorization Group as : &NC&
-> Enter Function Group : name of your table ( so it will create a function group , to check this function group go to tcode se80 : then select function and enter your Table name )
-> Then click on find screen numbers in Application tool bar.
-> Then click on create button in Application tool bar
if it is created successfully , then you will get a status message like table maintained generator is created successfully.

Two step: Two screens namely the overview screen and Single screen are created. The user can see the key fields in the first screen and can further go on to edit further details.
Difference Between Select Single and Select UpTo One Rows
According to SAP Performance course the SELECT UP TO 1 ROWS is faster than SELECT SINGLE because you are not using all the primary key fields.
select single is a construct designed to read database records with primary key. In the absence of the primary key, it might end up doing a sequential search, whereas the select up to 1 rows may assume that there is no primary key supplied and will try to find most suitable index.
The best way to find out is through sql trace or runtime analysis.
Use "select up to 1 rows" only if you are sure that all the records returned will have the same value for the field(s) you are interested in. If not, you will be reading only the first record which matches the criteria, but may be the second or the third record has the value you are looking for.
The System test result showed that the variant Single * takes less time than Up to 1 rows as there is an additional level for COUNT STOP KEY for SELECT ENDSELECT UP TO 1 ROWS.
The 'SELECT SINGLE' statement selects the first row in the database that it finds that fulfils the 'WHERE' clause If this results in multiple records then only the first one will be returned and therefore may not be unique.

The 'SELECT .... UP TO 1 ROWS' statement is subtly different. The database selects all of the relevant records that are defined by the WHERE clause, applies any aggregate, ordering or grouping functions to them and then returns the first record of the result set.

Table maintenance generator events

Hi,
I have created a table maintenance generator and want to populate sy-uname and sy-datum into two fields during SAVE. So I went to Environment -> Modification -> Events and selected "01" event i.e. "Before saving the data in the database" and entered Form routine as "F_UPDATE_UNAME_UDATE". Then if I go to SM30 transaction it goes to dump.
Could you please tell whether I am missing any point?

What happened?
     The current program attempted to call an externally defined routine
     that does not exist.
     Error in ABAP application program.
     The current ABAP program "SAPLZTEST321" had to be terminated because one of the
     statements could not be executed.
     This is probably due to an error in the ABAP program.
     The current ABAP program had to be terminated because the
     ABAP processor detected an internal system error.
     The current ABAP program "SAPLZTEST321" had to be terminated because the ABAP
     processor discovered an invalid system state.
What can you do?
     Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
     and make a note of the actions and input that caused the
     error.
     To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
     You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
      termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
     date.
    is especially useful if you want to keep a particular message.
Error analysis
    An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
    . The exception, which is assigned to the class 'CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_FORM',
     was neither
    caught nor passed along using a RAISING clause, in the procedure
     "PREPARE_SAVING" "(FORM)"
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have expected this exception
     to occur, the running program was terminated.
    The reason for the exception is:
    The program "SAPLZTEST321" is meant to execute an external PERFORM,
    namely the routine "F_UPDATE_UNAME_UDATE " of the program "SAPLZTEST321 ", but
    this routine does not exist.
    This may be due to any of the following reasons:
    1. One of the programs "SAPLZTEST321" or "SAPLZTEST321 " is currently being
     developed.
    The name "F_UPDATE_UNAME_UDATE " of the called routine may be incorrect, or
    the routine "F_UPDATE_UNAME_UDATE " is not yet implemented in the program
     "SAPLZTEST321 ".
    2. If the program SAPMSSY1 is involved in the runtime error, one of
    the function modules called via RFC is not flagged as remote-capable.
    (see Transaction SE37 Goto->Administration->RFC flag)
    3. There is an inconsistency in the system. The versions of the
    programs "SAPLZTEST321" and "SAPLZTEST321 " do not match.
How to correct the error
    - Check that transports to the system are complete.
    - Conclude any developments already begun ("SAPLZTEST321" and/or "SAPLZTEST321
    - Check routine names
    You may able to find an interim solution to the problem
    in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,
    use the following search criteria:
    "PERFORM_NOT_FOUND" CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_FORMC
    "SAPLZTEST321" or "LSVIMF14"
    "PREPARE_SAVING"
    If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
    an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
    1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
       To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
       Save->Local File (unconverted)".
    2. A suitable printout of the system log
       To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
       Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
       after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
       "System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".

hi expert if table maintenance generator is created for a table and after the creation table is changed then how to change the old table maintenance generator?

I am agree with Rock's answere.
go to utilities->table maintenance generator and delete it.
After it recreate it in a similar manner as you created earlier and save it.
it will work fine.
As I also do this every time I change the table and it works fine for me.

Table maintenance generator

Hi All,
I have created a table maintenance generator and maintained data in that.
After that I added one more field in that table, but when I goto SM30 to add entries I cannot find that field.

Hi,
Whenever you do any changes in a database table, and then activate it, you need to create a new maintenance genrator for your table, else no changes would be reflect in SM30.
As you have added a new field in your ztable, activate it, and delete the old maintenance generator and create a new maintenance generator in the similar way as created initially.
Now execute SM30 and all the modification would be displayed to the user.

There is a delete button in Table Maintenance Generator. Click it. Select all the Options and click Delete.

To create Table maintenance genetrator,
Go to Utilities->Table maintenance generator
Then Enter Authorisation group(For eg &NC&)
Function group ( You can create function group in SE37. Here in the menu GOTO->Function group-> Create group)
Then you can select either one step or two step. Assign Screen numbers (To assign Screen numbers click on the button 'Find Scr no' . It will propose screen no:s)
Then Create.Save
Table maintenance is created.
To create Tcode, Go to Se93
Enter A tcode name
Create
Select Transaction with parametrs
Enter some transaction text.
Transaction is SM30
Check Skip initial screen
Check Inherit GUI attribtes
gui SUPPORT - Select all check boxes
Under default values, enter
NAME OF SCREEN FIELD       VALUE
VIEWNAME                           ZTABLE NAME
UPDATE                                 X
save it
and try to use the TCode.

Reasign authorisation group at table maintenance generator

Hi All,
I have a table, assigned with authorisation group as &NC&. Now I need to change to authorisation group created newly.
If i change with newly created authorisation group in table maintenance generator level.
My Qus:1. Need to generate the table maintenance generator for this again.
2. Will it affect the users assigned to authorisation group.
3. Wht i need to do to change this, and wht are its effects if i change the authorisation group.

If the user is not assigned for the role he has to be assigned for that role.
one role is assigned to authorization group.
basis consultants will add the role of that group to that particular user.
otherwise he cant change the entries of the table.
so consult basis consultant for security role assignment.
