Regarding Calc Script query

HI All,
I having requriement to copy one version to another for some of the specific months.... Do u all have any idea?

Of course we have ideas. You would use a calc script with a fix statement to do it.
My answer is about as long as your question because you don't give us any information to help you. Your question is very generic and you don't supply details like the dimensions in your database, what exactly you are trying to do, what is dense and sparse, etc. Given more information, perhaps a more complete answer could be given.

  • ASO Calc Script (AKA Saved Query)

    We leveraging query tracking and have attempted to leverage the saving of the tracked queries as script we should be able to run monthly... Should be able to is the problem..!!
    Our outline dimensions are static, but the structured are very fluid and this seems to keep our scripts from working. Does anyone have an idea how we can leverage these scripts, or something like. I have attempted to leverage the following process with limited success
    1. enable query tracking
    2. materialize suggested views
    3. run report scripts to mirror regular retrieval issues
    4. materialize the views based on the tracking
    Length process, but beats nothing..
    Any other idea's??

    I think you might be confusing BSO calc scripts with ASO custom calcs, there is a whole section in the documentation on ASO calcs - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40248_01/epm.1112/essbase_db/aso_custcalc_alloc.html
    There are also examples on the internet if you search spend some time researching.

  • How to launch Calc Scripts from Analyzer

    Hello all,Just wondering if that there is an easier way to launch calcs from analyzer... what are some of the ideas -using a executable lauch button, hyperlink, via Analyzer API? Any other ideas appreciated. regards, Ray

    This message has resolved my query by setting a larger MAX_PROPERTY_VALUE_LENGTH to "30"Thanks.I have come across this problem before. If it is the same problem it is to do with the length of your calc scripts. Obviously Essbase calc scripts are stored as .csc files, if these are too big Analyzer can't read them. This issue is caused by the ADM layer that Analyzer uses. Search on the server for a file called adm.properties .You should find the file in the following directory \\hyperion\analyzer\adm\lib .You may find you have more than one copy on the Server in which case edit them all. In the file find a string called MAX_PROPERTY_VALUE_LENGTH. You will find this is currently to 4 (this respresents 4kb). Increase the value to say 20. Save changes, restart Analyzer Service and hopefully this should have fixed the problem. I would love to know if this works. Paul Armitage. Analitica Ltd. www.analitica.co.uk

  • Parallel calc script execution

    Hi All,
    We are having HP UX box with 4 processor and have 15 calc scripts. For parallel execution of these scripts We have set Calcparallel as 3 in .cfg file. My query is if these scripts are fired at the same time, will they going to execute in a seq. manner or in parallel fashion.
    We have 11 dim. in which 10 are sparse and 1 is dense in our outline. We have analysed the log but could not figure out anything.
    Any suggestions/guidance !!
    Regards

    To run three calc scripts simultaneously, you're going to need three people who kick it off in EAS/Excel/MaxL or more likely three separately yet simultaneously scheduled MaxL scripts that execute the calculations.
    From a data integrity (or just your sanity) perspective, it is good that the three calcs are addressing different parts of the database.
    However, from an Essbase data cache/disk controller perspective, the two are going to be spending a lot of time thrashing as Essbase tries to load blocks for all three calcs into and out of memory as the calculations proceed.
    You may find that these processes are faster when they are truly run one after the other.
    Of course the only way to really know is the benchmark both approaches and see what happens.

    Whoops, three, not two.
    Edited by: CL on May 16, 2009 5:57 PM
    Whoops again, two referred to the data cache/disk controller, not the three calcs. I should not reread my posts and think that I can "improve" them.

  • @ATTRIBUTESVAL works properly in Calc script but not in Member Formula.

    We are using Essbase 11.1.2 –
    "Global_Period" is a Dynamic Calc Member. Below is its Member Formula:
    "ProjType " is an attribute (text) dimension.
    "Global_Period" ="ValidAccount";
    IF (@ISLEV ("Total_Expenses", 0) AND @ISMBR("HSP_InputValue") AND @ISLEV ("Version",0) AND
    @ISMBR("No_GL_Account") AND @ISLEV ("Scenario",0) AND @ISLEV ("Years",0) AND @ISMBR ("Local")
    AND @ISLEV("Tot_Org",0) AND NOT @ISIDesc ("Service_Division") AND @ISLEV("Tot_PRJ",0) )
    "Global_Period"->"No_GL_Account"-> @CURRMBR ("Projects") =
    1* "ValidAccount"->"Global_Version" ->"Global_Scenario"->&Budget_Year->"Global_Entity"->
    "No_GL_Account"->"HSP_InputValue"->"Local"->
    @MEMBER(@NAME(@CONCATENATE ("Proj_",@ATTRIBUTESVAL("ProjType"))));
    ENDIF
    The above Member- Formula is failed to work when opening a Data Form that contain "Global_Period".
    The error messages in the log file are as follow:
    [Thu Mar  1 16:55:39 2012]Local/Projects/Plan1/admin@Native Directory/1122748736/Error(1200370)
    Error executing formula for [Global_Period] (line 1): attempt to cross a null member in function [@X]

    Error executing formula for [Global_Period] (line 0): attempt to cross a null member in function [@_VAL]
    When converting the "Global_Period" to be a Store member.
    The Calc Script below is exactly equivalent to the Formula, and run perfectly with no Errors.
    "Global_Period" ="ValidAccount";
    FIX ("HSP_InputValue", "Local","No_GL_Account", @RELATIVE ("Total_Expenses", 0),
    @RELATIVE ("Version",0), @RELATIVE("Scenario",0), @RELATIVE ("Years",0),
    @REMOVE (@RELATIVE ("Tot_Org",0),@IDESCENDANTS ("Service_Division")),
    @RELATIVE ("Tot_PRJ",0))
    SET CREATENONMISSINGBLK ON;
    "Global_Period"
    ("Global_Period"->"No_GL_Account" -> @CURRMBR ("Projects")=
    1* "ValidAccount"->"Global_Version" ->"Global_Scenario"->&Budget_Year->
    "Global_Entity"->"No_GL_Account"->"HSP_InputValue"->"Local"->
    @MEMBER(@NAME(@CONCATENATE ("Proj_",@ATTRIBUTESVAL("ProjType"))));
    SET CREATENONMISSINGBLK OFF;
    ENDFIX
    For many reasons we prefer to use the Dynamic Calc Formula for "Global_Period".
    As result of some checking I discover that the problem is with the function @ATTRIBUTESVAL,
    because the formula has worked fine when I replace the @ATTRIBUTESVAL with a string.
    Please help, what is the right way to write the formula in order to make it work.
    Thanks
    Tami Kedem

    Dear Cameron Lackpour,
    Thank you very much, for your reply.
    I'd given it a try, but it didn't help.
    The purpose of this formula is as follow:
    We holds 1's (ones) for allowable combinations of "Project_Type and Accounts", namely, each project type has different list of accounts that are allowed for input.
    I need to populate the input 1's to all projects (and their children) according to its "ProjType".
    The Data forms has periods in columns, thus by putting "Global_Period" (Hide) as the first column, and use "Suppress Missing rows" - for each project (on the "Page") , the form will show just the allowable Accounts in rows.
    (we have around 300 Accounts, 50,000 members in Project dimension and around 25 Types of projects).
    Please help.
    Thanks!

  • IF Statement with multiple ORs in Calc Script

    Hello,
    May I know what is the best way to script the following statement in a Member formula, not calc script (can't use Fix statements)
    If (A->B->C == 1, 3 or 5 AND X->B->C == Value1)
    returnvalue1
    ELSE
    #Missing.
    Basically I am looking for syntax for an IF statement where IF one condition is equal to multiple values as mentioned, then the result is this...
    Help is much appreciated.  Thanks.
    Adi

    You won't be able to use a comma separated list, you'll have to repeat the combination. A->B->C == 1 or A->B->C == 3 so on and so forth
    If you can give a use case scenario or the logic behind it then there are more chances that you might end up with a nicer solution.

  • DATAEXPORT - set Dynamic File name in Calc Script

    Hi,
    I have a calc script which exports data from BSO cube to a flat file. Currently I have hard coded file name within the calc script which is
    DATAEXPORT "File" "," "D:/in/CAPXPT_FERC_*FY12*.txt";
    and, for example, I want use the substition varaible to dynamically assign the file name let' say
    DATAEXPORT "File" "," "/u11/oracle/OHDDEVD/in/CAPXPT_FERC *" + &fYear + "*.txt";
    Is there any way to set the export file name dynamically?
    Thanks for your help
    Regards,

    A kind of intriguing thought would be to use the sub var as a way to drive the file name, then grab Robb Salzmann's CDF to dynamically set sub vars on the fly, and then use a RTP to grab that string. I have no idea if this would all tie together, but it would be interesting to try.
    Here's Robb's post: http://codingwithhyperion.blogspot.com/2011/08/create-and-update-substitution.html This is my second in a row post that refers to his CDF -- it is almost like that's my pseudonym except of course I'm too thick to write a CDF.

    If you remove the substitution variable and replace it with the actual value (whatever that is), does the code work? That will tell you if the issue is around the substitution variable or not.

  • Using variables in Calc scripts and Business Rules

    I am sure there have been previous discussions about this, but can somebody let me know the benefits of using variables in Calc scripts and BRs?
    Thanks,
    A

    I have never used calc variables and after reading a study guide, which talked about them, I couldn't really understand the benefits.^^^I use variables all the time to make abstract difficult formulas. Below is an example.
    /*     Declare variables     */
    VAR varSalaryCosts ;
    VAR varProdOHLabXXXX ;
    VAR varXXXX ;
    A whole bunch of code here along with very limited FIX statement and then...
    "Salaried Labor"
         varSalaryCosts = "Salary Costs"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" -
                             "Wage Bonus"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" -
                             "YYYY Retention Bonus 40%"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" -
                             "YYYY 60% Ret Bonus Accrual"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" ;
         varProdOHLabXXXX = "Number of Employees"->"ZZZZDepartments"->"Codes"->"Salaried" +
                             "Number of Employees"->"Blah Departments"->"Codes"->"Salaried" +
                             "Number of Employees"->"Humph Departments"->"Codes"->"Salaried" +
                             "Number of Employees"->"TTTT"->"Codes"->"Salaried" ;
         "Salaried Labor" = varSalaryCosts * ("Number of Employees"->"Salaried" / varProdOHLabXXXX) ;
    )The last formula is how the formula was described to me by the business owner. I find it to be much easier to read than something like:
    "Salaried Labor" = ("Salary Costs"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" -
                             "Wage Bonus"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" -
                             "YYYY Retention Bonus 40%"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried" -
                             "YYYY 60% Ret Bonus Accrual"->"No Department"->"No Category"->"Salaried") *
                             ("Number of Employees"->"Salaried" /
                             ("Number of Employees"->"ZZZZDepartments"->"Codes"->"Salaried" +
                             "Number of Employees"->"Blah Departments"->"Codes"->"Salaried" +
                             "Number of Employees"->"Humph Departments"->"Codes"->"Salaried" +
                             "Number of Employees"->"TTTT"->"Codes"->"Salaried")) ;I have used ARRAY in a really-cool-but-alas-not-invented-by-me calc script to do currency conversion in Planning better than Planning does currency conversion. (How's that for a run-on sentence?) It is one of the six blog posts I am working on and I will finish it soon, I hope. I am sort of in thrash mode right now. It does have its uses and I'll try to remember to update this thread when I'm done.

  • Calc script takes longer than expected to execute

    The current Planning system has several calc scripts which are used to run the budget. This system is 3.3. I am currently in the process of migrating to Planning 11.1.2. The same outline, data and calc scripts are used in the new system. However, one script, which takes only 8 hours to run in the old system, now takes 5+ DAYS to run. I did a data extract in the new system and the data seems to be correctly calculated.
    My problem is, what can be the issue for this lengthy time for calculation.
    Note: This is the first time I am running the calculation scripts in the new system.
    Thanks

    Did you size your essbase plan type caches appropriately - the index and data caches specifically (this is the most common culprit)
    Do all dimensions have the same dense/sparse configuration?^^^I'll bet anything that Matt got it with the dense/sparse configuration. The caches are worth looking at as well but that big of a performance difference seems unlikely. Taking a dense dimension and making it sparse or vice versa will do crazy things to a database's performance.

  • Calc scripts running very Long time

    Hi All,
    Recently, i am migrated the objects from Production to Test region. We have 5 applications and each of the application has a set of calc scripts.
    In test region, they are running really long time. Where as in Production, they run for less time.
    In TEST region each Calc script is taking 10 times more time than the Production times.
    No Dimension added or no script is updated. No difference in objects between TEST and PROD.
    Please suggest me, why is this difference.
    Thanks
    Mahesh

    The obvious first question would be if the hardware is different. You would expect prod to be a more powerful server and therefore perform better.I'm seeing a lot of virtualized test servers (who knows, really, what power the box has) and real prod servers. That can make a huge difference in performance.
    It makes benchmarking tough -- yes, you can see how long something will take relative to another process, but there isn't any way to know how it will perform in production until you sneak it over there and benchmark it. It can be a real PITA for Planning.
    And yes, the theory is that dev and prod are similar so that the above isn't an issue, but that seems to be a more theoretical than actual kind of thing.

  • Unable to Declare a Temporary Variable in Calc Script

    We are using Hyperion System 9 BI+ Analytic Administration Services. 9.2.03.0.44
    I am trying to declare a temporary variable in a calculation script.
    We have found several guides and examples in the support documentation that give us a step by step instruction on how to 1.) declare the variable, then 2.) Assign a value.
    Example:
    /* Declare the variable */
    VAR TotalAllocDept;
    /* Baseline Fix */
    FIX ("FY10","Jan","BU Version_1", "Actual", "NoProd", "NoCust")
    /* Assign a value to the variable */
    TotalAllocDept = ("Alloc_HR"+"Alloc_IT"+"Alloc_FIN");
    ENDFIX
    /* Allocate overhead based on Total Alloc Dept Variable */
    FIX ("FY10","Jan","BU Version_1", "Actual", "NoProd", "NoCust")
    "Alloc_5xSS" = @ALLOCATE("Alloc_Overhead","Account", TotalAllocDept,, share);
    ENDFIX
    However, when we try to check the syntax, we are given various error messages such as:
    Error parsing FIX STATEMENT "invalid object type" and
    "Invalid member name" and
    Invalid Calc Script syntax.
    Can anyone suggest some techniques that we can try or alternative ways of entering the text to make it possible for us to use temporary variables?

    A variable must be declared within a calc member block and can only exist for the scope of that block.
    This would work (not that you would necessarily want it)"
    /* Allocate overhead based on Total Alloc Dept Variable */
    FIX ("FY10","Jan","BU Version_1", "Actual", "NoProd", "NoCust")
    "Alloc_5xSS"
    TotalAllocDept = ("Alloc_HR""Alloc_IT""Alloc_FIN");
    "Alloc_5xSS" = @ALLOCATE("Alloc_Overhead","Account", TotalAllocDept,, share);

  • Calc Scripts in sequence

    Hi All,
    We have requirment to run some calc scripts in sequence as they are dependent. If we merge all the scripts in one script then due to dependency calculations are not done or not giving proper result.
    Is there any way so that calculation scripts are setup in sequence in one calculation script and Script One provides details to the Script Two and so on. We do not want to use the Business rules due to the considering the security assignment which will be very tedious job.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sravan Kumar.

    Business rules and sequences would be the correct procedure to use with Planning.
    Though I don't see how running separate calc scripts is going to be different that putting them in one calc script, that doesn't make any sense.
    If you want to run the calc scripts in sequence then you could batch them up using maxl.
    I am not sure what information you want to pass between calc script but you can use subsitution variables that be used in either script.

  • To View Calc Scripts and Report scripts via MaxL or Esscmd

    Hi all,
    Can somebody tell how to read any calc script or report script in any database with the help of MaxL or Esscmd?
    For example if there is any .csc or .rep file, I want to read the context of the file i.e. the script that is written in the file. Is it possible via MaxL or Esscmd?
    Does Hyperion supports this functionality?
    Regards,
    James

    You know that calc and report scripts are text files, right?
    They are typically stored in the database directory, although that is not a requirement; they can be stored in other client-accessible directories and run from there.
    I haven't done it in ages, but is also possible to pass calc and report scripts to Essbase via the API. I can't remember if the API will let you enumerate calc scripts from the database directory. I sort of strongly think yes. Someone who is more knowledgeable will either correct or refute that statement pretty soon. :)
    If you want to list the objects (calcs or reports): http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/techref.htm
    A few things that you can do with MaxL re calc scripts:
    1) execute calculations, including a string that you pass through MaxL: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/maxl/ddl/statements/excalc.htm
    2) delete calculations: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/maxl/ddl/statements/drpcalc.htm
    3) list the calcs: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/maxl/ddl/statements/dispclc.htm
    4) create the calc: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/maxl/ddl/statements/crecalc.htm
    Report scripts are sort of a poor relation in MaxL (and were in Esscmd as well). You can basically only run a report as kind of export: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/maxl/ddl/statements/exprt.htm
    So, I think it's mostly there, especially the display object command. BTW, if MaxL can list it, the API can too -- how else does MaxL work?
