Regarding Charts

Hi,
I am new to BW Reports.
I have few questions regarding creating Chart in BW Report. One thing I need to make it clear it's a simple Report not a WAD report.
(1) How should I create a chart in the Report?? Should I have to create it in the Excel Sheet once I run the report?
(2) Do I need to create the chart everytime manually once I run the report or is there any way we can save it and everytime we open the Report it should display the chart automatically !!
(3) When users drill up/ drill down or group data in different views, the Chart should be dynamically changed follow the change in data set. Is it possible to do that??

One more point to add, in response to your question #3...
If you create the chart using the BEx toolbar, as Sudhakar suggests, it will allow you to change the drilldowns in the report and the chart will change dynamically, also.
However, I would be a little leary of doing this. It would be very easy for a user to start adding drilldowns and end up with a very messy or unreadable chart. (Of course, they could also do this by asking for a large data set!?!) It's best to try to understand what the drilldown requirements are, then customize graphs for each of those if possible. Once that is done, you can turn of the right-click (OLAP) functions by deselecting the 'Enable Interactive Functions' checkbox on the Properties screen -> Interaction tab, and the user will not be able to change the drilldowns (unless they figure out how to reset this setting).

I am currently developing an application and I have a requirement. The table structure is as below:
Table - leaves_months_test
Columns - email, jan, feb, mar, apr, may, jun, jul, aug, sept, oct, nov, dec, total
This table stores the leaves taken by an employee in each month using their employee_mail
I want to develop a charts region where on x-axis months are displayed and on y-axix number of days leaves taken in that month are displayed.

That is the transaction. It is one stop shop for all graphs
Just ask your basis to give you the authorization for that or you can just go in the code of that transaction and look interanally which all programs it is calling.

What are the columns in your report ?. Is it showing you any result in Table View.?
Which type of Chart you are trying to generate ?.
Are you getting any error when trying to generate the chart?

Regarding Chart in the reporting

HI,
I generated one report with line graph in the browser.
It is showing some values in X -axis and some values in the Y-axis.
Now i want to see the values at each and every point in the graph also including X -axis and Y-axis. Is it possible in the reporting after executing in the <b>browser</b>?
Can please any one give me some suggessions.

Hi Rajesh,
We have very limited options for chart while executing in Browser and it will only displays the query level output.and not much customisation is allowed..
If you want to have a customised report with Chart, additional Drill Down then right now only option is going to WAD...however you can increase the table output size , customnise chart display and size, change naming conventions of X and Y axis and you have many more features in WAD..
Design Query in WAD is easy if we Follow WIZARD
Open WAD --> on top tool Bar Tools --> click Wizard --> click Next --> you will have web Items listed there --> if you want to show Data select table --> click Next --> attach your Query( from Select Query) --> click next --> give some title and mention Height and width ( these customisations you will not have in BEX Analyser) > If you want to add a Chart click ADD ITem and go ahead in the same way as for Table otherwise click Next and Save (save it to Fav or Roles)> now to run this Query Click Web Template --> Execute in Browser..

Create Chart with Workpoint

Hi.. sorry I'm newbie here.
I'm currently working to develop a chart report for a WorkPoint site. (I'm a bit confused what is the difference between SharePoint and WorkPoint. I assumed, both are same.)
What is the best way to create chart report, where user can select the filters (mainly combobox), here is what I've tried :
1. Chart Web part, not capable to choose filters from user
2. Using access view-report, but strangely I cannot publish it to my site, no option for that in Access.
3. Using bamboo solution, but maybe there is no filters also.
4. Using AE SQL chart web part, but I don't know where to place the dll files. (How can I manage file in WorkPoint, I mean in windows explorer style?)
I also facing some difficulties, in my workplace computer, I cannot install additional software, e.g. Visual Studio, SharePoint Designer. And, I cannot bring my own notebook because I cannot connect to network using our own computers.
I have only InfoPath installed in this workplace computer. But as I know, I can only build List using InfoPath.
Anyone have a solution? Please help. I'm near my deadline.

WorkPoint, afaik, is a 3rd party Danish product built on top of SharePoint, so it's not SharePoint itself but offers additional features.
When creating charts, I wouldn't go for option 1 and 2, not powerful enough in this case. 3 and 4, I don't know, but I see no reason to buy additionial 3rd party products when SharePoint offers powerful capabilities regarding charting.
In this case, I'd probably go for either an SSRS report or PowerPivot report (those are SharePoint solutions to the problem). If you don't have an Enterprise license for SharePoint, you can Always use the free powerpivot add-on for Excel, create the chart
and upload it to SharePoint. If those options are not feasible, then it's back to your solution 3 or 4 again.
Btw, any DLL files of a custom solution will have to be placed in the bin folder of the SharePoint web application or the GAC.

Results row charting in WAD

Hello, I have a question regarding charting only the results in WAD. Currently, I have a % Lot Acceptance Calculated Key figure and in my Rows "Vendor" Upon executing, I get each individual Vendor counts which fall in the % Lot Acceptance bucket. I then retrieve the results, summed up view but when I chart this in WAD, I do not want any low level results but only the rolled up results. Currently WAD will not chart the results row.
Any suggestions on what approach I should take? Should I possibly be pre-calculating the % Lot Acceptance in the Update rules and create a new field % Lot Acceptance which holds the "resulted" value? Should I utilize Virtual Characteristics/Key Figures? Thanks for your help in advance.

Arun, thank you for the welcome in the other thread.
I've tried your suggestion to remove any drill downs to get the "resulted" view but in doing so once I remove the characteristic Vendor from the rows, I do not get a value for any of the buckets. The Characteristic Vendor needs to be in the rows in order to get any values. But this in turn of course brings in each vendor which I somehow want to hide in order to get the resulted view to chart in WAD.
I've tried switching the results from Row to Column but that does not seem to be helping.

Chart YValueMember

Hello,
I have a question regarding Chart bound to a data set. I have my line chart bound to the dataset, consisting of three columns. In the Series Collection Editor My columns appear under the XValueMembers, but under the YValueMember my only option
is "0" (zero). Seems odd, not sure if I am missing something here.

whhat you could do is to remove all the drill downs so that the query result matches what you want in the chart and then save the same as a view , then attach the view to a chart data provider.
Maybe posting it in the Business Explorer forum will be of more help...

If I have understood you clearly..then you want the Wall color of the chart to have an option of setting "NO FILL" which I guess is currently not possible with Webi .
There are also some limitations regarding charts in Webi. Probably you can get in touch with SAP for more details on this.

Chart with Navigation Target not working propertly

Hi All,
I have a question regarding charts with navigation targets.
I have a simple report with these 3 columns: QUARTER | REGION | SALES
And I want to click on sales, and see the sales detail by the region and the quarter on the line I clicked. This works fine when I have the Table View.
But When I go into a Chart view, ( axis Y->sales, axis X->quarter, x-y->region ) and I click on any intersection, I cannot have the quarter filter applied.
On the target report, I have the filter like: "quarter is prompted".
Does anyone knows why this may happen? I do not have the latest version of OBIEE installed, I think I have 10.3.3.3, but I'm not sure.

How to right click chart and copy

In my page I display charts which I need to be copied when the client right clicks and chooses "Copy image", to paste in other tools like MS Word. However, i'm not being able to do it, what gets pasted in Word is just a blank picture. If I actually
try to copy it to Paint, the picture is copied correctly. What am I doing wrong?

In the charts option, either on asp page or the code behind, I did not set any option regarding chart rendering, so it's all by default. Thank you in advance.

Yes and no. Yes, they have changed the manner in which content is displayed but it is more likely so that the content can be viewed in a custom floating, borderless "player" having on again/off again controls rather than an attempt to prevent your downloading the ads since they haven't really tried to conceal the movie URLs.

It is unlikely you will be able to "restore" this functionality unless the site programmer includes this capability or you are using an older browser not compatible with the new coding techniques and the page is coded for its playback use. On the other hand, there are workarounds. The basic strategy is to recover the URL of the movie file. This can usually be done by simply reviewing the page source code to locate it. Another possibility would be to copy the URL as it is initially displayed in the Safari "Activity" window as it cashes to memory. Once you have the resource URL, you can either download the source file directly using the Safari "Downloads" window or opening the URL in either the QT X or QT 7 Pro Player for viewing and/or saving.

Use Table to produce a Chart

hi. i was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to make a Chart in Pages, using a Table (that is created in Pages not Numbers). The only way to make a Chart that I have come across involves using the Chart Data Editor. If that is indeed the only way, then is there a way to drag a Table that you have already made onto the Chart Data Editor, rather than manually entering the same data? I hope I have managed to phrase the question not too unclearly.thanks.

If you've tried dragging a table onto the Chart Data Editor, you'll already know that the table just slides behind the editor window.
But the paragraph below, from p.223 of the Pages '09 User Guide, provides a hint:
To copy data from Excel, AppleWorks, or other spreadsheet applications, copy and paste
it into the Chart Data Editor.
Click on any cell in the table.
Press command-A to Select All (cells).
Copy.
Click the Charts button and select the type of chart you want.
Click on the top left data cell in the Chart Data Editor.
Paste.
If you have fewer data columns or rows than provided in the placeholder data, select the extra data and press delete.

Need expert advise on CoA segment change

Hi Gurus,
Need the input on achieving the below requirement.
Requirement:
Current CoA uses Cost center (3 character length and numeric type) as one of the segment. Client has exhausted all the 999 values and trying alternatives to accommodate new values.
Option 1: Is it possible to change the segment and value set type from numeric to alpha characters so that client can introduce alpha numeric values to accommodate new requirements?
Option 2: Is it possible to expand the current length from 3 to 5 in the CoA segment definition and value set attached to Cost center segment? If yes, then what are the other implications that has to be taken care of.

In answer to the questions put to me in this regard :
1. Pages version : Pages '09 v.4.1 (923)
2. Mac O/S :          v.10.6.8
3. 3D chart :          Can't find a 'name', but upright bars with rounded corners ???
4. Moved apps :    Not that I'm aware of! All should be as installed off the disc.
5. A note :              I have been able to create these in the past - related to a SW update?
                      and ... can create these charts perfectly in Keynote (go figure).

I'm not sure if I understand your query correctly but I'll have a go at answering your question. I'm guessing that you have a horizontal bar chart that looks something like this, even after you've indicated that you want it to be a stacked chart -:

|{color:#0000ff}===={color}
However, you want it to look more like this -:
|{color:#ff0000}@@@{color}{color:#008000}#########{color}{color:#ff00ff}++{color}{color:#0000ff}===={color}
For the purposes of the example, let's assume you are using two fields for the bar chart - Account Type and *# of Accounts*. By default, your chart options would be set such that Account Type is the value used for the Y axis and *# of Accounts* is the value used for the X axis. Indicating that you want a stacked graph results in the first graph example I listed above. However, if you indicate that Account Type is the value to be used for the measure labels and that there is no value for the Y axis, then a stacked graph will look like the second graph example I listed.
