Regarding SQL Database Initialization

Hello All,
I had an existing working version of LiveCycle on Server A which had two drives; A.1 and A.2. Do to space constraints we decided to move the Adobe LiveCycle ES2 folder from drive A.1 to A.2. We had not created anything so we werent worried about loosing any data. When it was installed on to drive A.1 it was runnning on the default MYSQL database that is created when you install using jboss turnkey. . But now we want to connect our jboss application to a SQL server database. I went ahead and walked through the documentation in order create the database and users. I also made the modicications to the XML files within jboss. The problem I am having is when I try to run the LiveCycle ES2 Database Initialization in the Configuration Manager, I get the following error:

Are there other files that I need to configure in order to switch the application from the default MYSQL to the new SQL Database? And is there any way for me to test the connection to the database before I attempt to initialize it.
Thanks in advance.

First and foremost you cannot use the XMLs which are part of turnkey JBoss directly.
You should discard adobe-ds.xml and mysql-ds.xml from <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/deploy and get hold of SQL Server specific adobe-ds.xml and mssql-ds.xml and then make necessary modifications w.r.t your SQL Server.
In addition to this you would have to modify login-config.xml as well to add an entry of application policy for MSSQL DB.
If you have performed all these steps and still issues are coming then the error could be because of any of the reasons mentioned below:
The XMLs that you have configured
The connection pools configured
Missing database driver jar
I would recommend the following:
1) Make sure driver jar for SQL Server (most probably sqljdbc.jar) exists in <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/lib directory
2) Ensure that you have modified the following XML files correctly:
adobe-ds.xml and mssql-ds.xml inside <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/deploy directory
login-config.xml inside <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/conf directory
3) Ensure that you have removed mysql-ds.xml from the <LiveCycle Root>/jboss/server/<server profile>/deploy directory
Try opening the XMLs in a browser to verify that they are modified correctly.
You won't find an option to test the connection in LCM.
Though you could try starting up your JBoss without any EARs and see if it is coming up without issues.

  • Technical concerns regarding SQL Databases

    Hi Azure technical team.
We're looking into the possibility of using Azures hosting services for our existing database of music files. After speaking to a representative from the Sales Team we've agreed upon going for the S0 SQL Database with 10 DTU and 250 GB storage.
We would like to "just" change the hosting of our existing database to Azure, but before we can do that we need to find out if its possible to install any given program to the server or not. Our database is programmed in "Ruby on Rails"
(Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) and is secured through username and passwords.
Can any of you from the technical team help with clarifying this for us? Your sales team do not have the answers..

    Hi tigerspring_1,
Based on your description, you want to know that if you can install any given programs in Azure environment, right?
Azure offers a range of preinstalled Operating Systems you can choose from, such as Windows Server and Linux. You can create your own virtual machine directly in the cloud by using an image that is provided in the Image Gallery of the Microsoft Azure. Also
you can use your own image or your own disk to create a virtual machine in Microsoft Azure.
Once instantiating a virtual machine image,
you can install any software your application needs to run. And you are responsible for patching, configuring and maintaining the operating system and other software within your virtual machine. For more details, please review this article:
    Overview of Azure Virtual Machines.
Besides, you can deploy PHP-MySQL Website in Azure, for more information, please review the following links.

  • Query regarding connecting dashboards with SQL DATABASE using WSDT

    Hello Sir,
I am trying to connect dashboards with Sql database via WSDT, but i have encountered the same problem as described in your SAP community blog (SAP Web Service Design Tool: From web service creation to Xcelsius consumption).
when i tried connecting CR server with WSDT ,it still shows that total number of available licenses is 0.
What can be done to solve this issue.
for your detail reference, we are using CRS NUL version's 60 days Evaluation keys and same with Xcelsius Departmental edition.
I would really appreciate, if you revert back to my mail as soon as possible

Which version of Crystal Reports are you using? The regular ReportDocument SDK probably isn't robust enough to handle this, unless you create a connection using that connection string at design-time which you don't change at runtime. You might be able to add those properties using the in-proc RAS SDK, though. This is available with CRXI R2 as of SP2, and CR2008.

  • SCCM 2012 SQL database error while installation.

    Hi,
I'm trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 in a test Lab. While completing installation I'm getting an error message "setup has encountered fatal errors during database initialization. check the log for details. click the view log button for more information"
and installation finishes successfully. I'm using SQL server 2008 R2 with CU6 installed. SCCM Prerequisite checker shows only SQL memory and WSUS package warnings. Still I'm able to finish installation but not able connect SCCM. I'm installing Primary site.
My system is running on Win 2k8 R2 SP1.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Dhananjay

In my experience you can get strange problems if you extract the ISO to a folder and run the setup from there (that seems to be what you have done).
Try mounting the ISO directly and I believe you will have better success. You are using W2008R2 so you will need a 3rd party app (Virtual CloneDrive is a good one).
(Obviously if this is a VM you can just add the ISO to the DVD drive)

  • I need to host a website with a SQL database - Azure pricing details are too confusing

    Hello,
I need to give a potential client a hosting price for a somewhat simple web application they want me to build. I told them it shouldn't be a problem. After gathering the requirements, I figured I would use the following technology to build and host
    it:
    ASP.NET 4.5
    MVC 5
1 SQL Database ~ 25GB with options to expand and also with a backup
    SSL certificate needed
Hosting would be on Azure because I have some experience using Visual Studio 2012 and integrating the Visual Studio Online (TFS) source code and scrum web applications. I've never actually spun up a website with a SQL database using Azure before, but I
imagined it wasn't too difficult to find a general hosting plan to support the above requirements.
The use of the website will be very simple and limited to the basic CRUD operations. Will support forms authentication using the Identity 2.0 framework. The web applications main purpose is to fill out a form for new accounts, have a search page for
those accounts, a page to view a created account and add notes to it. So performance wise, it isn't asking for much. I just want it to be fast and secure.
So I start looking on the Azure's pricing landing page which is here: (can't put links in here, but search Azure pricing on Bing) and I see this Pricing Calculator, so I click it
First thing I notice is the Websites tab doesn't mention SQL Database - in fact the Data Management is a separate tab from Websites. And if I made my selections on the Websites tab, the estimated monthly price doesn't stay the same when I go to the Data
Management tab - so I get the illusion I have to have two separate purchases.
I'm not exactly sure if the Pay as You Go billing feature would be okay because it's just a bit scary to leave every monthly payment up to chance; somewhat. Would love to know if there is other payment options that I could see for what I described above.
I want to use Azure to host my asp.net website - it makes sense and the integration with Visual Studio is amazing. I love the publish feature for both MVC 5 Projects and SQL Database Projects.
Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello jdevanderson,
I suggest that you start by looking at the pricing TIERS for the Azure website. This link will give you clarity on different Service TIERS that are availaible:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/pricing/details/websites/
You can guage your requirement and choose the Service TIER accordingly.
And regarding the database, you are right about it. You will be charged seperately for the database. You can refer to this link that will give you clarity on SQL database pricing:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/pricing/details/sql-database/
Refer to this link for more information on 'How pricing works':
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/pricing/
Use the full calculator to add your website and the database to get an estimated cost:

  • Advise on SQL database process

    Dear all,
We have build our own product CMS platform configuration which is running on SQL server and CMS web site link to it.
We will lauch our product soon but need to identify the correct hosting plan for not having any further issue.
For exemple for now all is hosted in our company azure account with a Standard Basic 5 DTU's.
When we go in production we can expect some connection and big amount of data on our database.
My question are as follow :
    - Does using a single database storage for my potential Customers would be enough ?
    - How should I plan backup efficiently ?
    - Should I plan a safety replication process somewhere in azure or duplicate the storage in order to switch in case of lack of place ?
My concern is to avoid my database beeing full while customers increase
Thanks for your advise and help
    regards
    serge

    Hi Solatys,
    - If I select by default STANDARD Azure database, which size, DTU, etc should I select ?
For this question, you may reference the below link. You can scale your Azure database performance based on the real-time requirement.
    Azure
SQL Database introduces new near real-time performance metrics
    - If for instance the initial URL of the web portal connected to SQL server1 has a trouble, how can I switch users transparently to a second replicated server in order that user will notify anything ?
Azure SQL Database has a built-in high availability subsystem that protects your database from failures of individual servers and devices in a datacenter. Azure SQL
Database maintains multiple copies of all data in different physical nodes located across fully independent physical sub-systems to mitigate outages due to failures of individual server components, such as hard drives, network interface adapters, or even entire
servers. At any one time, three database replicas are running—one primary replica and two or more
secondary replicas. Data is written to the primary and one secondary replica using a quorum based commit scheme before the transaction is considered committed.
If the hardware fails on the primary replica, Azure SQL Database detects the failure and fails over to the secondary replica. In case of a physical loss of a replica, a new replica is automatically created.
So there are always at minimum two physical, transactionally consistent copies of your data in the datacenter.
    Azure SQL Database Business Continuity
    - IF I select the Maximum size of the database, what will happen in case it will be nearly full and need to provide more space ?
Insert and update transactions that exceed the upper limit will be rejected because the database will be in read-only mode. The maximum size has been gained from 50GB to 500GB as of now, you may have no concern about it. You can
    set a monitoring alertto
notify the storage utilization and CPU percentage etc.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

I am stuck with this, and cannot figure out since I am new to SQL Queries and Stored Procedures. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi sid_siv,
Only the first record is inserted because of the scalar variables of the stored procedure(SP), when you call the SP, only one row is passed. To get all rows inserted, you can either declare a
    table-valued parameter
(TVP) for the SP or using an Oracle linked server in the SP.
Create a stored procedure with a table-valued parameter
As you mentioned linked server is not good in your case, then TVP SP can be the only option. Regarding how to call a SP with TVP parameter in BizTalk, that's a typically BizTalk question then. I would suggest you post your question in a dedicated
BizTalk Server forum. It is more appropriate and more experts will assist you.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

  • UUT Result log in SQL database?

    Hello All
I am facing a requirement where i want to log results of sequence execution[only the complete seq result and NOT step results] to SQL database BUT as and when the UUT_ID varies the entry should be made into a new column with the same name as UUT_ID. As of now whenever i execute a sequence with different UUT_ID, a new row gets added as a result.
Please reply back with your suggestions asap, as this very urgent for me :-)
    Regards
    Nitin Goel

But in my opinion, that's just a way to display the results - not a way to store the data. I also have thousands of test cases and tens of thousands of different UUT each month. Each UUT has a separate record (a unique row) and yet if I design a proper query and report format, I can show the results exactly like you have. The design of a relational database should not be the same as a report design, imho.
A database is designed to have unlimited rows (dependent only on storage space). I'm not sure a db can have unlimited columns. That would be something you could check with your dba. Dynamically adding a new column and doing an update to an existing row would probaby be much slower than just doing an insert.

     string txtname = (txtEmpName.Text).Trim();
     sQuery = "select * from tbUser where UserName='_username'";
     sQuery = sQuery.Replace("_username", txtname);
     SqlConnection objConnection = new SqlConnection(source);
     objDataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(sQuery,objConnection);
    // DataTable dtTable = new DataTable();
     if (objConnection.State  == ConnectionState.Closed)
     objConnection.Open();
     objDataSet = new DataSet();
     objDataAdapter.Fill(objDataSet);
    // objDataAdapter.Fill(dtTable);
or i want to search if "txtname" exists in "tbUser" table.
    Thanks & Regards.
    Manish S. Anand

This is a very poor coding, Unfortunately not fit anywhere :-(
This code is a security risk (sql injection)!
He should use SqlCommand class with parameters!
but yet if i understand the problem he is facing, then the problem is in the SQL part of the code and not the Dot.net :-) therefor it is fit to this forum. Basically the code should work, but as i understand from him his problem is in the
result set come back from the query filter. If so:
    * the problem is that he use:
    where UserName='_username'
    instead of:
    where UserName='%_username%'
and he do ask about the search problem :-)

  • Can No Longer Connect to Azure SQL Databases

As of this morning, I am no longer to connect to any of my Azure SQL databases by any (apparent) means. I checked the configuration in the azure portal and my IP address is listed as an allowed IP, however:
I am unable to connect via SQL Server Management Studio
My request times out when attempting to visit https://{server_name}.database.windows.net
    What might have caused this?

    Hi ,
    Thanks for posting here.
To resolve the issue you can try the following steps (in that order):
Check the application’s connection string to make sure that it is correctly configured. For example, make sure that the connection string specifies the correct port
(1433) and the fully qualified server name.
Note You can follow these steps to obtain the connection string from the Azure Management Portal:
                          Log on to the
    Azure Management Portal.
In the left navigation pane, click
    SQL Databases.
Select your Azure SQL Database server.
                          Click
    Dashboard.
On the right side, go to the
quick glance section, and then click Show connection strings.
Make sure that TCP IP is enabled as a client protocol on the application server. For more information on how to do this, see
Configure client protocols. On application servers where you do not have SQL Server tools installed, you can check this by running cliconfg.exe (SQL Server Client Network Utility).
Test the connectivity between the application server and the Azure SQL database by using a UDL file, ping, and telnet. For more information about how to do this,
    see
Azure SQL Database connectivity troubleshooting guide and
    Troubleshooting SQL Server connectivity issues.
Note As a troubleshooting step, you can also try to test the connectivity on a different client computer.
                    Try increasing the connection
timeout. Microsoft recommends using a connection timeout of at least 30 seconds.
As a best practice ensure retry logic is in place. For more information about the retry logic, see
Azure SQL Database best practices to prevent request denials or connection termination.
If the previous steps do not resolve your problem, follow these steps to collect more data and contact support:
If your application is a cloud service, enable the logging. This step returns a UTC time stamp of the failure. Additionally, SQL Azure returns the tracing
    ID.
Microsoft Customer Support Services can use this information.
For more information about how to enable the logging, see
how to enable diagnostic logging for Azure Web sites and Developing SQL Database Applications section in
    Azure SQL Database Development Considerations.
Please write back with the exact Error message/ Error Code if this doesn't help.
    Regards,

Contained Database Users should be of particular help for people migrating to Azure SQL Database. At the moment, this is a preview release but you can start testing. Here is the announcement of the
preview with links to more information.
New SQL Database public preview with new Standard-tier performance level
Previously announced in November 2014 and now available for customers to try, the
    new
public preview of SQL Database improves the compatibility of SQL Server applications for Azure SQL Database. Details of this preview are available on the
    SQL
Database documentation webpage, including the following key enhancements: easier management of large databases to support heavier workloads with parallel queries
and online indexing, support for programmability functions like CLR and XML index to support more robust application design, improved monitoring and troubleshooting with XEvents and 100 new Dynamic Management Views (DMV), and more performance in the Premium
    tier.
To try this preview, please sign up via the Preview
features webpage. Only SQL Database servers with a mix of one or more Basic, Standard, or Premium (not Web or Business) databases are compatible and eligible to
upgrade to the preview. Please note that any move of an existing Basic, Standard, or Premium database into this preview is irreversible; we recommend that you create a database copy or leverage test databases on any server enrolled in this preview.
A new Standard-tier performance level, S3, is also available in this preview which gives you more pricing flexibility between Standard and Premium. S3 will deliver 100 Database Throughput Units (DTU) and all the features available in the Standard tier. Please
note that S3 will appear on your bill as a multiple of S2 until further notice.
For more information, please visit the SQL
    Database webpage and the
    Microsoft
Azure Blog. For a comprehensive look at pricing, please visit the
    SQL
    Database pricing webpage.

    Hi Srk,
I found the similar issue in this article, which had been sovled by adding the script below:
    $server = New-Object ("Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server") $dbInstance
    $server.ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout = 0
    Refer to:
Exception calling "SqlBackup" with "1" argument(s)
Please feel free to let me know if this method can not work.

  • Steps to migrate SQL Database to Windows/Oracle

    hi
We have an SQL database in our client network and client wants to migrate it to Windows/Oracle. Currently they have multiple databases on the same SQL server.
So I am curious to know if oracle also allows the same in Windows.
I read that we can indeed install one oracle home and use DBCA to create multiple oracle databases on the same host. Any pointers to any documents relevant? I also want to understood this setup and what it means for performance, backup/restore/recovery, patching/upgrade etc.
Request your valuable inputs on this topic please.
    Regards,
    Raja

As you said you are an Oracle dba so you should know that within one Oracle home, we can create as many database as we want based on the hardware specs of that machine, though its not a good idea. You can create multiple database definitely under one home on Windows as well.

  • Which is better for performance Azure SQL Database or SQL Server in Azure VM?

    Hi,
We are building an ASP.NET app that will be running on Microsoft Cloud which I think is the new name for Windows Azure. We're expecting this app to have many simultaneous users and want to make sure that we provide excellent performance to end users.
    Here are our main concerns/desires:
Performance is paramount. Fast response times are very very important
We want to have as little to do with platform maintenance as possible e.g. managing OS or SQL Server updates, etc.
We are trying to use "out-of-the-box" standard features.
With that said, which option would give us the best possible database performance: a SQL Server instance running in a VM on Azure or SQL Server Database as a fully managed service?
    Thanks, Sam

    hello,
SQL Database using shared resources on the Microsft data centre. Microsoft balance the resource usage of SQL Database so that no one application continuously dominates any resource. You can try the
    Premium Preview
for Windows Azure SQL Database which offers better performance by guaranteeing a fixed amount of dedicated resources for a database.
If you using SQL Server instance running in a VM, you control the operating system and database configuration. And the
performance of the database depends on many factors such as the size of a virtual machine, and the configuration of the data disks.
