Registering my mac in my name

Hi, I purchased a six month old mac from someone else and I am having a few problems setting it up. Firstly it wouldn't connect to the internet when I was going through all the setup stuff, what language you want etc etc, so it said it would send my details to apple later and that it would store them somewhere and that once I have internet connection (I now do) it will register the product in my name.... But I can't find where it has stored the info???
Also, the lady I bought it off said that once i went through all the startup procedures I'd get everything it came with back... She thought it came with iphoto?? I don't have it but I have itunes...
And... When I try to egister the product to my apple id it says it is already registered to another apple id and won't let me add it. Do I need to call her and ask her to remove it from her apple id??
Any help would be apprecaited, getting a bit frustrated here

My guess is she did not deauthorize the computer she sold you and it's still associated with her Apple ID.
Not sure if this will work, but open iTunes and in the iTunes Menu Bar/Store : See if you can Deauthorize This Computer. You need to be connected to the Internet.

We would need some basic information first - what OS version is on this Mac now and which version did it come with originally?
If it has an OS version on it which was purchased at the app store, your friend needs to wipe the drive completely and reinstall the original system using the install disks it came with. You can only sell or give a Mac if it has the same system installed it originally came with; if it has been upgraded, the disk needs to be wiped or you will wind up with a pirated OS and will never be able to reinstall.
So, please furnish the information needed and inform your friend that s/he needs to wipe the drive and reinstall the original system.

Make a Mac's Computer Name the Same as it's OD Computer Record Name?

I heard someone mention that its possible (at least in 10.5 server) to make a Mac's Computer name become exactly as its OD Computer Record name is (at the time of binding). I assume this would be a setting in Server Admin/OD or in WGM perhaps. I cant find the setting. Can you locate it for me?
Im running a test Leopard OD master in Advanced mode on an Xserve Xeon.

OK, let me give you a similar scenario regarding computer record names.
I had previously setup OD to set computer names based the computer record name once the Macs were bound to OD.
I decided later that that naming scheme will not work (I need the computer (host) name and the OD computer record name to be different for logisitical reasons - long story). I unbound my OD clients and trash all LDAP settings to start over from scratch. One problem:
I cant for the life of me find that checkbox on my OD server to disable that setting. I have looked everywhere. I check WGM and Server Admin too. The post you made earlier doesn't look like the steps I took to setup the option to force the computer name from the record name. I simply checked a box. I also did enable authenticated binding either.
I have a test OD lab right now. None of the servers and clients are in production, so I have the luxury of experimenting a little before we go live in Q1 2008.

It will and will not help what others see as your network name.
When using Bonjour services the System Preferences -> Sharing name will be displayed.
Also the System Preferences -> Sharing name is used to create a NetBIOS name, as used by some Windows sharing protocols (which means you might want to simplify the name, if you expect to use Windows sharing).
However, if you have a DHCP server that creates a DNS name for you, then you might end up with a computer name, as seen by systems using Reverse DNS lookup, as something like
dhcp-region-building-floor-nn-nn-nn-nn.company.dnsname.com

I'm unable to register my Mac Mini (Late 2012). Says serial is invalid.

I'm trying to register my Mac Mini (late 2012) so I can get support for another issue with it. I grabbed my serial from the "About This Mac" window, and attempt to register using that. However, I get an error saying "We're sorry, but this serial number is either invalid or it is for Apple software or accessories. If you are trying to register Apple hardware other than an accessory, please check your information and try again."
I'm also unable to update Mountain Lion from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2. It just takes me to the App Store update screen, but not OS update appears.

Call AppleCare and let them register it. Some late 2012 machines are unable to update to 10.8.2.

You can create up to 3 alias addresses but you have to do this on icloud.com from your computer browser. This article explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622. Also, incoming email to an alias address will go to your current iCloud inbox so it really isn't a separate account; just a different email address for the same account.
Each iCloud account only has a single iCloud email account. If you really want to set up another, you would need to add a secondary iCloud account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, then entering a different Apple ID to create the account. You can then turn on Mail to create the new account. Mail in secondary accounts, however, is fetch email, not push (which is only supported in the primary account).

I don't know why the serial number from the About This Mac window does not work, but you can try looking for and using the serial number that is physically printed on the surface of the Mac. This acticle explains where to find it.

First of all, Liger? Are they being serious? In my opinion Liger's do not count, as they're a manmade genetic construction like hybrid fruit and don't exist in nature. I even thought Snow Leopard was weak coming out right after Leopard. What happened to the Bobcat, Ocelot, Caracal Cat, Jaguarundi, Marbled Cat, and most importantly (my favorite) the Lynx. I vote Lynx for 10.9.

There is no such thing as a "Bandersnatch" in reality, and I don't even know what a catamount is. Indeed I don't think Tiglon should count either. I guess it makes sense that Lynx sounds similar to Linux, but they could still use things like Bobcat and Ocelot. Yeah I wonder what their new theme will be for OS 11, or will they just keep going? 10.10, 10.11, 10.12? I hope not, after 10.9 I hope they move on to 11. To the guy who questioned the validity of 10.8 being Liger, you might be right but there were sources listed on the page, I didn't check them out myself though. If you find further information on that let us know. There also wasn't any article for 10.8 to support it, like there was for 10.7.
Etresoft, I don't think it will take only 28 years to reach Mac OS 30. There's no way to tell the amount of years for sure, but if they keep the pattern of getting to .9 then going up 1 that's 193 to go. (including 10.7 Lion)
I'd like to remind the last few posters that the pattern here is types of cats, not specific cats or obscene references to cats.

Mac HD folder names

Hello All,
I'm a new Mac user and noticed that one of my top level folders (in the Mac HD system folder) has been renamed with 'garbage' characters. I'm not sue what effect this will have on my system, if any ? Also what are the standard Mac HD folder names ? This particular folder has the follwing files in it: **Address Book Plug-Ins, Application Support, Caches, CFMSupport, Colors, ColorSync**, etc. and I'd like to rename it back to the correct folder name.
