Registry changes

HI all
I just wanted to ask the best way of performing a certain function during OSD deployment.
We are building a citrix XD75 farm using SCCM, migrating away from MDT,
In MDT we use a script to alter some registry variables for example:
REM Improve UI consistency - replace 'Microsoft San Serif' with 'Tahoma' ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes"
/v "MS Shell Dlg" /d Tahoma /t REG_SZ /f REM Remove Briefcase from New menu DELETE HKCR\Briefcase /f
Now in MDT this works perfect every time no issues
so what I have done is turn the script into a package and add it into the OSD Sequence, now the sequence runs with no issues, however on competition
when I check the registry for the values which should be altered nothing has changed,
I need to know why and how to fix this as its seems that not being able to deploy stuff via the ADMIN account is proving to be a show stopper for
us as the moment
Many thanks.
Chris

HI Torsten
so the script is a simple .cmd file which is how we do all of our registry changes in MDT, I know that SCCM using the System account to run the OSD which is why I believe we are having so many issues with the migration of our processes from MDT to SCCM.
ah would seem I am being a numpty have checked the WOW64NODE as the OS being Server 2012R2 and yes all the registry entries are there correctly :)
thank you for your assistance :)
is there a recommended approach to registry editing during OSD for SCCM2012R2 I want to make sure im doing in the correct supported MS way

  • Looking for a programmatic/command line approach to auditing registry changes

  • Reader Update installs Chrome, breaks Outlook links requiring registry changes.

The newest Reader update as you probably know has a box checked by default to also install Google Chrome. Many of my users are just trying to update their Reader and miss the box, inadvertently installing software they do not want, and that we don't want on their computers. Google Chrome rewrites portions of the Windows registry pertaining to hyperlink handling, and effectively BREAKS Microsoft Outlook. Even after you un-install Chrome it leaves all of this BS behind that leaves any Outlook user unable to click hyperlinks in an email. So as a result of Adobe's little trick of sneaking in software during what is intended to be an update, coupled with Google's crappy product, I've been spending the last week un-installing Google Chrome, and making registry changes to 8-10 PC's a day. I've sent out an email telling people to make sure the box isn't checked but the damage has been done.
First of all let me tell you that it PISSES ME OFF when companies like you leave boxes checked by default for crap that you know most people do not want. YOU ARE TRICKING PEOPLE. NO I DON'T WANT TO BE CONTACTED BY ADOBE ABOUT ADOBE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES, NO I DO NOT WANT YOU TO SHARE MY INFORMATION WITH A 3RD PARTY. NO-ONE WANTS THAT, BUT YOU LEAVE THE BOX CHECKED ANYWAYS PERPETUATING THE DISTRUST THAT PEOPLE HAVE FOR TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES AND DOING THINGS ONLINE, NOT TO MENTION GENERATING TONS OF RAMPANT JUNK MAIL AND OVERALL USELESS CRAP THAT IS STREWN ABOUT THE INTERNET.
It's wrong, you're wrong, and no-one is going to read, respond or do anything about this anyways so I'll end here. For anyone else who is running into this BS, here is how you fix the garbage that Chrome leaves behind:
    1. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
    2. Right click the value for the .html key and select Modify…
    3. Change the value from “ChromeHTML” to “htmlfile” (or from FireFoxHTML to htmlfile)
Repeat this process for each of the following keys:
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.xht]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.xhtml]

As a network administrator, how do I deploy Flash Player across my enterprise?
In order to deploy Flash Player, you must first acquire a license to do so. Distribution licenses are free of charge and can be acquired through the online licensing application.
Cool I'll get on that right now!   ... Five minutes later... The licence form doesn't work properly and won't enable the 'Accept and Submit' button.  Oh well I tried.  I could always block the adobe site and update manually or via .msi
P.s. Have you actually tried to deploy Flash within a company?

  • What are Registry changes after kb2461249

    Hi,
I need to know what registry changes happen after I install kb2461249. I need this info to complete my patch package. it would be also helpful if I get to know instead, if any files change their version specifically after this kb install. I looked into the

    sorry for getting back late.

  • Mystery Registry Changes

I have a new T500 (2242-CTO), preloaded with XP Pro, to which I applied my usual registry change to disable the immensely annoying Balloon tips (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307729 for details of change.) The fix works and balloon tips are not shown after rebooting, but after the next reboot they reappear.
Checking the registry I see that something is editing the key after the first reboot, thus causing my change to be lost. The registry key has not been deleted but changed from '0' to '1', so the key isn't simply being restored to how it was before I applied the change - the registry key was not present initially. If parts of the registry were simply being restored to their previous state then I would have expected the key to be deleted rather than being changed to '1'.
I had a suspicion that one of the Lenovo utilities are trying to stop me from making registry changes. My initial guess is the Client Security Solution (CSS.)
I have installed a lot of software onto the machine and after uninstalling just about everything Lenovo related and still getting the problem I've done a Lenovo factory restore from the machine's system partition.
As part of the restore I requested that CSS (and a few other unwanted utilities) is not installed. Unfortunately this request (and the others) was ignored and CSS was installed anyway. I tried disabling CSS through its standard dialog but the utility starts up on every reboot and shows the dialog with the setting disabled. Since I don't want to have to close the dialog on every reboot I just uninstalled CSS. Unfortunately the problem remains. So CSS has been (apparently) successfully uninstalled but the problem remains, so it must be something else. (For info, after the factory restore, Internet Explorer immediately ends after being started, with no events being logged. Since IE is required for Windows Updates I couldn't try and correct via that route. It can be corrected by reinstalling IE7 after downloading using another PC.)
I would appreciate some assistance from Lenovo. What program is editing the registry and how can I prevent this from happening?

I've narrowed the problem down to Bluetooth. C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Bluetooth Software\BTTray.exe is loaded on Windows start-up. Bluetooth uses balloon messages to communicate with the user and presumably switches them on if they are disabled.
By preventing BTTray.exe from running (using MSConfig.exe / Startup tab) the balloon tips can be switched off and will remain off.
Is anybody aware of a way of overriding this behaviour?
Whilst I would like to leave Bluetooth enabled and make use it, given the choice, I'll be leaving it disabled so I can work balloon-free.
(With BTTray enabled I also tried switching all Bluetooth device notifications to audio only but the balloon tips still get overridden.)

  • Group Policy Preferences - Registry change - time targetting

I have a customer who wants to change the timeouts etc on a screensaver based on the time of day.
Users often leave a machine open and on(with Bloomberg info) and work using another machine while they keep an eye on the Bloomberg one.
The plan is to have these machines running Bloomberg have a long screen timeout during the working day, and then go back to the default screensaver timeout after that so the users don't have to continually enter a password.
Looking at GPP it needs to be done via a registry change.
I've created the policy  (screensaver, lock and screensaver on are all set (3 reg updates), then 2 time targeted additional reg updates for the screen saver timeout), but the policy only applies at logon or a forced gpupdate.  It doesn't update when
    the time change occurs.
If I run a "gpupdate /force" the policy does change based on time.  I have tried a scheduled task for "gpupdate / force" and that didn't apply the change.
Is GPP registry just not up to the job for time scheduling with a registry change, or am I doing something wrong?
All machines are Win7 pro x64

    Hi JaseFromLodon,
To make it work ,we can set this policy to have a check.By default, computer Group Policy is updated in the background every 90 minutes. We can change this time to "0" instead of creating a task schedule and the update will be performed every 7
    second.
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy \Set group policy refresh internal for computers
Here is a link for reference
Group Policy refresh interval for computers
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc940895.aspx
For the time range faeture ,I am sorry I didn`t explain the issue clearly .
Pay attention to the "note " in step 13 of the link as you posted .
"Make sure you allow for the policy refresh interval (default 90 minutes with a 20% random offset) when configuring the start and end time. This means you might want to start applying the policy 2 hours before the start of business (e.g. 6:30am) to make
sure all the computers are configured with the Business Hours Power Plan before people login in the morning (e.g. 8:30am)."
The time targeting feature doesn`t mean the preference settings will be applied according to the specific time we have set .It means the preference settings will be applied to the machines whose time is included in the time range .Please pay attention to
the explanation of the time range features carefully (the screenshot I have posted).
Manually "gpupdate /force "will work .I suspect the task schedule hasn`t been set correctly .Please check the running history of this task schedule.

  • Outlook 2013 set cached mode "Mail to keep offline" to All for existing Outlook profiles via GPO or registry changes

We recently migrated from Office 2010 to Office 2013.  An annoying change is Outlook's "Use Cached Exchange Mode" setting that changes the previous setting of all email to partial email based on how old emails are.  This is confusing
for end users because if they have a 1GB mailbox size limit and they look at the properties of their mailbox, it shows the cached amount which is always then less than the full amount.  While they have a 1GB limit, the properties of their mailbox
might say 700MB because that's all that is cached, but meanwhile they can't send because they are actually over 1GB on the server side.
I want to set this cache setting to "All" for EXISTING profiles and new profiles.  I think I can do it with GPO for new profiles, but I don't see a way to set it for existing profiles.  I assume I have to do this with a registry setting.

    Hi,
The cached mode Sync Slider setting is maintained in the Outlook profile settings in the Windows registry. If you want to administer this setting via group policy, you can use the group policy templates, which are available from the Microsoft Web site. The
group policy template files are Outlk15.admx and Outlk15.adml. If you use group policy to manage this setting, the following registry data is utilized by Outlook.
    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Cached Mode
    DWORD: SyncWindowSetting
Value: integer value (Decimal) specifying the number of months (use only the following values)
    0 = All (entire mailbox)
1 = One month of mailbox items
3 = three months of email items
6 = six months of email items
12 = twelve months of email items
    24 = twenty-four months of email items

Hope this will be helpful for you.

  • Lightroom 2\.exe registry change

Occasionally I notice the internet running while I am importing photos from my compact flash card. Also I am getting a warning from McAfee asking if I want to block a potentially unauthorized change to my registry and impose internet Explorer restrictions. Usually, I authorize the change but recently my computer has frozen with the internet symbols showing activity while importing. Is this a common experience? jc

Oh, I didn't know that its also taken into account for the English version and that you could only write some overriding entries into there.
What you'd have to do then is:
Create a folder "en" below the resources folder
    Create a file called "TranslatedStrings.txt"
    Write the line
    "$$$/AgLibrary/Menu/File/Export/ExportAgain/Key=Cmd+Option+Shift+e"
(including double quotes) into it, replacing "Cmd+Option+Shift+e" by something else, making sure you don't use a shortcut that's already in use.

  • Deploy registry change - best method?

    I have a 2012R2 domain with Win 7 clients. I'm trying to add a item here:  HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
What's the best way to deploy the key?
    Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Scripts/Startup - regedit /s xyz.reg
    or
Computer Configuration/Preferences/Windows Settings/Registry - registry item or registry wizard
If I deploy it using either of these methods and force group policy, I don't see it on the client's registry, even though gpresult shows it as being applied.  I can't test it with the app yet, since we're preparing for a mail migration.

How about simply an empty package with the following command as the command-line of the program:
    reg add "HKCU\Software\SAS Institute Inc.\JMP\10.0\Options" /v JMPPerPath  /t REG_SZ /d "\\myserver\jmp.per">\\myserver\jmp.per" /f

  • Updating Registry in Global Package yields no change

Having another odd issue.  I have an application, ProgramX. We are publishing it to machines (Global).  After publishing it to the end users machine (tester), an issue was found, but a simple registry change will fix it.  So I go into the
package (Edit package, not Update), make the reg change, save and publish the updated version.
Computer 1: (had package already loaded) - Reg change does not get applied.  Even after removing / reloading package.
Computer 2: (did not have package loaded, added to publishing) - Reg change is present, application runs as expected.
No matter what I do, I can't get computer 1 to show the change.  I dismiss it as something wrong with that system. Computer 2 is a fresh image.
Another issue comes up, same thing: simple registry fix will resolve.  I go through the same steps, publish the update, etc.
Computer 1: Still no change seen, so now 2 issues behind.
Computer 2: No change seen, now 1 issue behind.
Computer 3: (No package, added this one as well): Good to go.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Or should I open a case / file bug report?
Note specifically, I am not resequencing.  I am merely clicking Edit Existing Package and changing the value in the Virtual Registry.
    EDIT: Note, Running AppV 5.0 SP2 HF5
Remember, mark posts that are helpful, or if it has answered your question, mark as answer.

The user changes are layered on top of whatever is in the package. So in this application, whatever setting you are trying to change is already in the user personalisation layer, and repairing the package wipes this layer, solving the issue.
If you find yourself in a situation where you need to repair the package for every user when issuing an upgrade, another way around it is to use Save As and save as a new package with a new GUID. Then the personalisation layer for the older package will
no longer be used and it will be starting from fresh.
If you need to deploy this registry update without wiping the user's application settings, then putting the settings in the config file is the best way forward.
