Reimaged Win 7 PC still cannot ping either domain controller by IP Address, but sees other PCs fine.

OK so this is weird one: I have a Window 7 box that when I went to use it, I discovered that it no longer had access to the internet, but it did see the other PCs on the network. After trying completely different network ports then removing/reading the NIC
and using system restore, I decided to reimage it from scratch and deleted the PC's name from the domain. Here's where it gets strange: Even after a completely wiped and reloaded PC from a known good template, it DOES get an IP address from DHCP/DC/DNS server
(same machine) it can view the other workstations on the domain, but it cannot even get a ping reply back from either of our 2 domain controllers, much less join the domain and it still does not see the internet. This one really has me kerfuffled! It is the
only PC with this problem and I've already scorched the HD.

Hi,
According to your description, the Windows 7 PC has joined the domain before going wrong. And after a series of operations the Windows 7 still can’t access Internet and it can’t ping DC by IP address.
Have you checked the Windows Firewall to see if the firewall blocked the ICMP packet?
Due to the Windows PC can get an IP address from DHCP server as mentioned above, so what IP address the Windows 7 PC get? And what is the IP address of the Windows 7’s DNS server? We can use
ipconfig /all command to print out the TCP/IP configuration. Because we can’t ping DC by IP address, maybe the Windows 7 PC can’t connect to DHCP server. If a DHCP client can’t connect the DHCP server, it can assign a private IP address of
169.254.0.0/16 network to itself. Then the DHCP client will attempt to find an available DHCP server every five minutes. Obviously, computer with a private IP address can’t access Internet.

Tina

The Active Directory is requesting to be promoted to a Domain Controller.
I have a logical or physical error in the installation.

I believe I should have only one  Domain Controller in this application.
After the Hyper-V guest can see the host domain controller I will install EXCHANGE 2010.

  • I cannot see my photos in iphoto library - I tried to restore with Time Machine and that doubled the number of photos (copies) but I still cannot see the images - the events are there but no thumbnails although the number of pics per event is correct...

Can someone help me see my pictures again in iphoto? 3 weeks ago while uploading a video from iphoto to Facebook, my events thumbnails all disappeared and were replaced by black squares - the event names and number of pics in each remain but when I click on the event, I only get squares where the pics should be - when I click those squares, I get  a square with a triangle  and an exclamation mark in middle.
Apple had emailed me about defective disks in iMacs so I took mine to the Apple Store and they replaced my HD then reinstalled from my backup via Time Machine - I still cannot see my pics! I tried to reinstall from an earlier Time Machine date - that copied everything and now my HD has double the amount of data but I still cannot see my pictures!
I would be thankful for any guidance on how to retrieve my pictures...
    Thank you.

  • TS1702 Supercam Pro update.Just downloaded update 24-05-2013 and now cannot connect to DVR.Entered correct http address but not connecting, anyone else having same problem?

Supercam Pro,latest update yesterday 25-05-2013.Now cannot connect to my DVR.Anyone else having problem with this update, worked perfectly before???

The OP is correct, I have done many tests.  With IOS6 there appears to be a dns issue in some cases with IOS for both ipad(2) at lease (my wife won't let me upgrade here v1) and the iPhone4s in my case.  Pretty easy to diagonse, I wish Apple would fix it.
1.) I use a Juniper 5GT wireless firewall and all of my other devices (many apple, ipad, MBP, iMAC,3 ipods etc) are fine: Not ipad2 or iphone4s running IOS6
2.) after upgrade nothing worked.  narrowed it down by messing with dns (I have my own dns server)
3.) Strange thing; dns works over MiFI (Verizon) and Carrier
4.) confirmed that it is a dns and not network issue.
-down load free tool called ping-scope-lite.   (obviously you need to turn off wifi to do this)
      http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ping-scope-lite/id431500107?mt=8
    turn on wifi
    - ping Level3 dns server 4.2.2.2 or Googlesdns servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 these worked.
-now ping by name google.com or ipchicken.com
       - try others; same result.
Apple did say that they would give me another iphone 4s: I just wasn't sure that would fix my issue.  I tried downgrading to 5.1.1 but I got an error saying my device wasn't able to do so (tried even blocking itunes from contacting Apple)  I whis this could be fixed.  I did even have it working using my own dns server but now I can see that my phone over wifi isn't even trying to make a dns request now.

  • Main Server cannot ping the 2nd server in another location but the 2nd server can ping the main server

I have 3  servers :  Main server, and 2 file servers in another country.
My main server can only ping the 2nd file server.
But both of  our 2 file servers from another country can ping the main server.
In short, I cannot remote to the first file server.
The settings on both file servers are the same. And I don't have issues in accessing the 2nd file server using the Main server.
Can somebody have the patience to help me figure out the issue?

Being able to ping the server does not mean that you remotely access it.
If you are trying to RDP a server then you need to check that RDP is enabled on the server and that traffic to port 3389 is not blocked or filtered. You can use PortQryUI for checking.
For testing, you can temporary disable security software running on the servers and try again. Also, check the filtering done on network equipment in between your servers.

  • Unable to install ICloud 4.0 on Win 8.1 PC. Get Windows Installer error message. But Windows installer works fine. Any solutions?

I cannot install ICloud 4.0 on my Win8.1 PC because I get a recurring message that the Windows Installer has failed. The Windos installer works fine on other applications. So I suspect it is in the ICloud software. I have uninstalled Icloud 3.2 and deleted the apple internet services files but still no luck. Any ideas?

The error message says "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor"
I am trying to update iCloud to 4.0 by installinh iCloud64.msi on Windows 8.1.

  • Cannot file share between MacBook Pro and iMac, but can Screen Share fine.

    Hi all,
Very strange problem going at the minute!
I can Screen Share both ways (iMac - MBP and MBP - iMac) just fine but can't seem to File Share between either computer. They are both on the same network and both have the exact same settings under SysPrefs. I can see both devices in a Finder window and can click the 'Connect As...' button, but once I've put in my credentials, the message in the Finder window changes from 'Connecting...' to 'Connection Failed' in a matter of seconds.
Both have AFP switched on and neither has the Firewall enabled. I also cannot FTP between either computer via 'Connect to Server...', but I can utilise iTunes Home Sharing perfectly.
I've tried pretty much everything I can find on the WWW, but nothing's worked! Help!
    Thanks!

    Hi, thanks for your help!
I think I've solved the problem now (at long last!).
Somehow, my sharing permissions on my Home folder on either computer won't allow me access. I've tried repairing permissions multiple times, but to no avail.
I've solved the problem by sharing my Macintosh HD, rather than my individual Home folder and I can access everything as normal now.

  • VPN Tunnel setup - can't ping either endpoint

So I was given the task to set up a new VPN tunnel for a client and even though I've basically made it open, we still cannot ping each other's endpoints. I troubleshooted for over an hour with one of their techs, still to no avail. I included the config of this router. The tunnel can build out, completes phase 1 and 2, but still doesn't allow traffic or ability to connect to either endpoint. Please help.

    Hi Dennis,
Your tunnel to "12.145.95.0 LabCorp_Test_Remote" segment can only be initiated from host: RBPMAM is due to your crytp-acl below.
    access-list Verizon-ISP_cryptomap_1 extended permit object-group DM_INLINE_PROTOCOL_11 host RBPMAM LabCorp_Test_Remote 255.255.255.0
Secondly your no-nat on internal interface is denying the traffic that must enter into crytp engine, therefore your tunnel never going to come up.
Therefore please turn it to a "permit" instead.
    access-list Internal_nat0_outbound_1 extended deny ip any LabCorp_Test_Remote 255.255.255.0 inactive
    Please update,
    thanks

  • WRT54G Cannot Ping localhost

I have been using this router for some time now (v. 6), and it has given me no problems.  (There was a period in time I tried to update the firmware to use dd-wrt; but that failed and I reverted it back to linksys firmware.)
I have set it up for DDNS with dyndns.org. This has been working fine for months.
All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, it could not resolve 'dyndns.org'. So, I was playing around with the ping tool, and found it could not ping dyndns.org, and actually, it could not even ping localhost!
I just did a master reset (hold the back button for 30 seconds). It still cannot ping 'localhost' (though 127.0.0.1 is okay). However, strangely enough, the ddns settings work again.
I'm afraid this will not last long. Has anybody else experienced this before?
    Thanks!
    -Matt

Try to upgrade the router's firmware. There's a newly posted firmware that worked for me.
To download the firmware, click here.
To learn how to upgrade your router's firmware, click here.
Firmware upgrade should optimize the performance of the router.

  • Cannot ping by name

I have one system on my network that cannot ping any workstations or servers by name but can ping by IP Address. I get error Ping request could not find host tt-data. Please check the name and try again.
I tried the following troubleshooting steps but nothing fixed it
-Tried a static ip and dns address
-Added an entry in the host file and tried to ping the server name and it failed as I got same error as above
-Reinstalled network card driver as well as updated it
-Did an ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns
-Stop and Started Browser, Computer and DNS Client services
    -Rebooted pc multiple times
-No errors in application or system logs
-Windows firewall service started but all profiles disabled
    -Stopped windows firewall
    -Cannot ping localhost
    -netsh interface ipv4 reset
I am not sure what the issue is as I am stumpped as DNS is clearly not working but I do not understand why the host file entries are not working either when you ping by name but IP Addresses work fine. All other workstations work fine so it has to be something
    on this machine.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well you might follow the steps on this article to reset TCP/IP on the host, otherwise I am stumped.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
Use a manual method to reset TCP/IP for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Note This section is intended for advanced computer users. If you are not comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, ask someone for help or contact Support. For information about how to contact Support, see the Microsoft Help and Support contact information
    Web site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus
The reset command is available in the IP context of the NetShell utility. Follow these steps to use the reset command to reset TCP/IP manually:
To open a command prompt, click Start and then type CMD in the Search programs and files.
Right-click CMD.exe icon in Programs and choose Run as administrator.
When the User Account Control box pop up, click Yes.
At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER:
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Note If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command:
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
    Reboot the computer.
When you run the reset command, it rewrites two registry keys that are used by TCP/IP. This has the same result as removing and reinstalling the protocol. The reset command rewrites the following two registry keys:
    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters\
To run the manual command successfully, you must specify a file name for the log, in which the actions that netsh takes will be recorded. When you run the manual command, TCP/IP is reset and the actions that were taken are recorded in the log file, known as
    resetlog.txt in this article.
The first example, c:\resetlog.txt, creates a path where the log will reside. The second example, resetlog.txt, creates the log file in the current directory. In either case, if the specified log file already exists, the new log will be appended to the end
    of the existing file.

  • I have read all of the similar issues on this site and I still cannot connect my airport extreme (although there is no problem with my old airport express - help...

i have read all of the numerous and similar issues on this subject.  and i still cannot connect my new airport extreme.  my old airport express works fine still.  help.  and why are there so many issues with connecting this stuff?  i thought this stuff was supposed to be getting easier, not harder... thanks.

Sorry, but I have no idea on what you have read and tried so far so please forgive me for any redundancy.
Is your AirPort Extreme the only router in your current network configuration? Which exact model is it? If there are other routers being used, please provide their make(s) & model(s). Also the make & model of your Internet modem.
What is your goal with the Extreme? Is it to replace the "old" AirPort Express? Will you still be using the Express for any reason(s)?

  • Sysvol rebuild on a single domain controller

    Hello there
Platform: Server 2008 R2 single Domain controller
A clients server above lost power with an unexpected shutdown over the week end and couldn't logon to the domain.  However they can browse the network and open shares on the server. Connections to the Active directory failed and
DCDIAG reported failure to connect to the Global Catalogue server, along with other failures.  The event logs show the following:
    File Replication Service
    Event ID 13561 Jrnl_wrap_error
Event ID  13566 declares FRS is scanning the volume but it cannot become a domain controller until finished... which it never does.
    Directory Services
Event ID 1355 The Specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
Finally running net share reveal that the SysVol is Netlogon shares are not available.
First of all I looked at the common JRNL fix of changing the of changing the DWORD Enable Journal Warp Automatic Restore to 1.  But, it was already set to 1, when it should have been 0. So I am not sure what that means. I tried changing
it back with FRS service restarts but to no avail.
I have seen numerous entries about recovering the sysvol, but most involve pulling copies from other DC's, of which there are none. I do have a valid Windows backup with System state and Sysvol, which I feel I may be heading with this. So are there any other
paths I should be looking at, or is a restore from backup the only option?
    Many thanks in advance

Hello Ahmed and thanks for your reply
NSLookup returns correct values both ways for IP and FQDN
I also carried out some checks following your article. There were a couple of records pointing to the old server for last year which I have deleted. In the meantime I have pasted  DCDIAG below for your thoughts I where I should be looking. There
is for example a returned test fail on a the time server at the foot of the report
