Reimport Tables - RPD

Hi,
Each time a table structure changes in the database does the table need to be reimported in the physical layer and do the joins need to be reformed again.
Is there an alternative workaround. I have a time dimension table where the structure has changed in the database and a few more columns have been added, do I need to reimport the whole table again in the physical layer or is it possible to add the new columns in rpd?
Can anyone recommend?
Thanks

Hi,
No need to re-import the table, you can right click on table and create those new physical columns in physical layer.Give exact name, type etc.Pull them in remaining layers accordingly.

  • External Table Security with OBIEE 11G is not working properly.

    Hello Everyone,
we just upgraded for OBIEE from 10G to 11G.
not what we had in 10G for object level and data level security is that we were using "External table" and LDAP Authentication.
Now for User we are capturing Groups in that table, so basically we have Group-level security.
so in that case we are creating Groups in External Table, RPD & Catalog.
Now we upgraded OBIEE to 11G, there we have totally different concept for security.
So here in what we have to do to implement the same concept. because we have created the Application Roles in Admin Console and Groups in Enterprise Manager with same name, and assigned same Groups to same Application Role.
now while applying security in frontend we can catalog groups options too!!! so do we have to create the same groups in catalog too?? and while applying the security to catalog which one do we need to use? "Application Role" OR "Catalog Groups"???
    Thanking You..

  • Creating a view and use the view in a model

    Hi All,
I am new to OBIEE and i have a requirement that i have two fields to be added to a subject area. Since we can't add queries directly to a model, i have to create a view and then put the query in it and then use the view in that model.
I couldn't understand this much, if anybody could help me explaining in detail about the views and adding a query in it?
    Thanks
    Gohan

    Hi,
Please refer the screen short below link
    http://imgur.com/b9sXS
Right click any of one physial table(RPD physical layer) -> Select Properties -> from the properties windows choose 'Select' as Table type ->
Please enable feature 'CREATE_VIEW_SUPPORTED' view just go to 'Features' tab and from the available option select 'CREATE_VIEW_SUPPORTED' is checked or not. If it is not checked then check the option.
can you explain your current model and scenario?
for example to you can use to fetch two fields from Subqueries, all trypes of joins(inner, left outer, right outer etc..,) its upto you case
e.x:fetching two tables columns mapping subquery:
    SELECT column1, column2 FROM table1 WHERE column1 IN (SELECT column1 FROM table1
    INTERSECT SELECT column1 FROM table2 )
    SELECT column1, column2 FROM table1,table2 WHERE table1.column1 = table2.column1
Alternative there is feature call "mulitple subject area" method will work (Union,Union all etc..,)
    Thanks

  • How to reimport relational table objects into RPD physical layer...

I am new to OBIEE. I am not sure how to reimport relational database tables into physical layer whenever the base database table structure changes.
How do I configure the ODBC or OCI 10G/11G connections on my computer so I can reimport objects into RPD on remote server.
I would appreciate it if you can give step by step instructions
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello -
You can re-import a table to the Physical Layer the exact same way that you would import the table for the first time:
    1) Click File > Import > From Database...
    2) Select your data source connections
    3) Choose your table you wish to reimport
The system will warn you that you will overwrite the existing table and may lose information. The information you would lose is any discrepencies in the physical layer that are no longer existing in the actual database table. However, logical columns will NOT be overwritten.
Alternately, if it is a minor change to the table (say a column name change, or one additional column added), you can also manually add the column
    1) Right Click on the already imported table in the presentation layer and select New Object > Physical Column...
    2) Name the column and provide the proper data type
The column now exists in the physical layer and will be properly associated with the new column in the database, assuming the same column name was attributed. You WILL have to drag this new column forward to the logical layer and presentation layer, as this will not be automatically done.
I hope this answers your question. If you found this helpful, please assign points!

  • Error while Reimporting the table

    Hi All,
I am getting the following error while reimporting the target table.
    java.lang.NullPointerException.
Can anybody tell me the solution plz.
    Regards,
    Siva

This ussualy means that object with required ID is missing or OWB thinks it's missing. Try deleting it, and than do the import.

  • Best ways to create rpd or reports if we have data in more fact tables

I have fact and dimensional data in one or more different tables. Then each logical table source represents one data segment. Please suggest me some methods or ways like fragmentation through which i can use them in creating rpd and report and main problem here is facts too large contains 25 million records. But adding tables in BMM layer effecting performance so can anyone other ways doing it in database side.
    Thanks in advance
    Edited by: user2989722 on Dec 3, 2009 3:09 PM

    hi,
For the fragmentation you can create on dimension .The procedure is clearly explained in this blog
    http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/01/fragmentation-in-obiee.html
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2007/06/19/obiee-data-modeling-tips-2-fragmentation/
For the performance point of view you can create a Materialized view (based on columns that your report is using) so that it will hit that particluar view instead of hitting whole table(25million records table) please look into this post

  • Unable to import table or columns in OBIEE 11G RPD

    Hi All,
We are unable to import table into the RPD using OCI 10G/11G to import the table then the import box open but we are unable to see the tables below the schema name. When we use ODBC 3.5 and created a DSN for the database then we are able to see all the tables and import them. But the problem here is that when we are using window server 7 64 bit to install client and then importing the table ODBC is not working fine as well.
Please note that we are using OBIEE 11G which is installed on unix box and we connect to RPD using client installed on windows server.
Appreciate all the help in advance.
    Thanks,
    Mohit

    Hi Sayak,
This means we need to installed Oracle client to resolve this problem. Can you please share if you have some knowledge regarding the same.
    Thanks,

  • Reg: Using Multiple fact tables in the RPD!

    Hello everyone,
Can I get some help with the following scenario?
    We use OBIEE 11g.
We have a report that uses only 1 fact table to retrieve the data and it takes hell lot of time to bring up the data in the report.
My question here is is there a way to bring up the performance of the report if we split the data in 1 fact table to 2 fact tables and make the report use the 2 fact tables.
Are there any other ways of tuning the report for better performance.
Thanks for the help in advance!
    Ajay.

    Hi Ajay,
    Follow the following steps for the tuning;
    1. Try to tune the SQL query first generated by the report, and make necessary changes. (Put indexes on required column so that your query is scanning the index instead of entire table)
    2. You can try to create agg fact table and use the agg navigation for improving the performance. (Idea is to reduce the data set on which sql is fired)
    3. You can try to create partitions on the FACT table in the DB and so that required partitions are queried as per filters.
    4. In the Last if all the above doesn't tune your query you can try splitting the FACT table in to TWO or More as per your decision and then use fragmentation content in the BMM layer of the RPD so it will hit appropriate tables as per you report.
    Mark Correct/Helpful if it helps.
    Best of Luck,
    Kashi

  • Creating Physical table as select in the .rpd

When creating a physical table as a select we can write the SQL statement like SELECT A,B,C... FROM xxx etc.
Trouble is that we then have to go the tab COLUMNS and define each column... This is kind of very error prone and lots of work...
Pls. is there a way to somehow leverage the columns alreaday defined in the PHYSICAL TABLE ?
    Txs. for any help.
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
    You didnt catch me..
1)Open actual rpd and create a view using select query, do not add any columns.
    2) Create view in dev db.
    3) Create a new rpd file import the view into the physical layer.
    4) Select columns from step3 and copy
    5) paste in the actual rpd on selecting the 'select query' object
    you are good to go.
This wold help you with all columns and their datatypes.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    SVee

  • How to copy a physical Alias table from one rpd to another

    Hi
I am copy pasting the physical tables from one rpd to another. I first copied the physical table and then tried to copy the alias table i get the message ' Unknown Error' when i click ok it says
'Failed to copy from clip board"

Identify the "class=MyStyle" string in the MTML code, and use the Multi-File Find and Replace feature to step through each topic and change the specific instances to "class=MyOtherStyle." (I doubt that you'll want to "Replace All".)
    Sorry, there's no silver bullet!
    Good luck,

  • How to handle Fact tables with different granularity in OBIEE 11g RPD

    Hello Everyone,
I have got stuck here and need your help.
I have two fact tables (Say F1 and F2... F1 is containing data at month-level and F2 is containing data at day level) and one Date DIMENSION TABLE. Date_Code is the PK of Date dimension table.I need to use time-series functions also.
Can anyone tell me how to model this requirement in the RPD.
Can we use a single dimension table(Here Date dimension table) with two fact table of different grainularity? What would be the best way to implement this requirement?
    Thanks in advance :)

    Hi Veeravalli,
    Thanks for your reply :)
Let me explain the problem in more detail. I have one Date dimension(Date_Code,Month_Code,Quarter_Code,Half_Year_Code,Year_Code). Here Date_Code is the PK.
    In F1---->Date (Using Month_Code key)
    F2-------->Date (Using Date_Code Key)
Level based hierarchy is there starting from Year to Date. Each level has PK defined and chronological key selected.
F1 has level set to Month and F2 has level set to Day.
Now if i am using ago() function on measure of F2 (having day level data) then it's working fine but if i am using ago() function on measure of F1...I am getting an error at Presentation service: Date_code must be projected for time-series functions.
So the whole issue is with time-series functions. As per my research...I think for time series the tables in the physical model containing the time dimension cannot join to other data sources, except at the most detailed level but here i am joining with F1(using Month_Code which is not the most detailed level).
So kindly let me know how to achieve this in rpd?

  • How to use full qualified table names in RPD

    Hi,
We are implementing the BI Financial Analytics, we have a requirement to use diffrent user accounts for DAC , ETL and OBIEE
DAC, ETL we are using user as XXOBI
For OBIEE RPD we have to use user with read only access such as XXOBI_APP
How can i make the changed to BI server / RPD to use full qualified names.
I have tried to select the Full Qualified table name property in Oracle Datawarehouse connection pool setting.
If i enable that all my sql query is showing tables as catalog.dbo.w_party_d ( my tables in physical layer showing under catalaog -> dbo -> all tables and joins)
Any help in this is appreciated.
    Thanks

KrisAre you saying you just need to access the database using different accounts? If that is the case, why dont you just update the connection pool settings like username and password with XXOBI_APP account which you are supposed to be using for OBIEE?

  • Incorrectly defined logical table source in rpd

    Hi
I'm very new to rpd building and started with the below model
    F1 >----D1------<F2
Fact 1 is joined to Dim 1 and the same Dim 1 is joined to Fact 2. With this model in physical & BMM Layer I built rpd and deployed.
In answers I picked 1 column from each of these three tables and getting the below error.
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 15018] Incorrectly defined logical table source (for fact table FACT_SALES) does not contain mapping for [DIM_LOCATION.LOC_NAME]. (HY000)
Seems, I'm missing some basic rule in building rpd, any help will be great.

    Hi,
Just check the mapping between the fact_sales and Dimension table.
the error explaining about the mapping error only.
Just check the datatype compability too.

  • How to see the tables which are in the physical layer of SampleAppLite rpd

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to OBIEE and I installed OBI Apps with Oracle 11g in my laptop. I tried to create reports using the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd. How can I know from which schema the tables are coming in the physical layer of the repository so that I can create a connection pool to the database. I got the default SampleAppLite rpd when I install the OBIEE but I am unable to see those tables in the database schema which are used in the SampleAppLite physical layer. Can anyone tell me how can I see the tables in the database which I see in the rpd. Actually my question may be wrong as I am new to this field, so please let me know if this is a wrong question. As I unable to express my question correctly. Thanks.

For the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd - the tables are under "Catalog" then "dbo" in database "Oracle Data Warehouse" in the physical layer. The RPD comes out of the box with the required connection pools - you dont need to create any. The connection pools "Oracle Data Warehouse Repository Initblocks Connection Pool" and "Oracle Data Warehouse Connection Pool" in "Oracle Data Warehouse" read the data from the business analytics warehouse that you created in a schema name of your choosing with the DAC. All you need to do is edit the user name and password and the data source name with a connect string - which is the local net service name to your database for default call interface OCI 10g/11g assuming you used an Oracle database for your warehouse. One way to test the connection pool is to right click any table/alias then "Update Row Count".
BTW Using the Admin Tool open the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd then do "Tools" then "Utilities" then "Repository Documentation" then "Execute". This will create a spreadsheet showing you all the mappings from the presentation to business to physical layers.

  • Cache purging in RPD using Event polling table

    Hi All,
We have a star schema implemented with few dimension tables and one fact. I am trying to implement Cache management using Event Polling table concept.
    During validation,
    1. Created and ran an adhoc user report
    2. Inserted a record in event polling table with one of dimension table(not fact) of star schema used in adhoc reporting.
    3. Cache in the RPD doesn't get purge.
Also i have tried validating by inserting a Fact table in Event polling table for which cache gets purged in the RPD within certain interval of time.
Please help , why dimension tables inserted in Event Polling table and the corresponding RPD query is not getting purged.
    Thanks,
    LonaD

I can't help you with why this happens, but we experience the same behavior in our environment.  I've always chalked it up to either bad design in the cache polling feature or a bug.
To work around this, in the past we've used one of these two solutions -- (1) Schedule a daily cron job to clear the entire cache sometime after your nightly ETL refresh usually completes (2) Have your nightly ETL refresh trigger a clear of the entire cache as the last thing it does.  This way, your cache is cleared for most queries on a fact by fact basis, and the dimension-only queries (and anything else left over) get cleared at the end.
If you figure out a way to do this via the event polling, I'd love to hear it.
    Tony
