Relax NG - Validating a  document against it's schema

Hi
I am trying to work out how to validate an XML document against a Relax NG schema. There doesn't appear to be much support for Relax NG, and I am not quite sure what tools to use or how to do it, I am new to XML.
Can anyone suggest how I would go about doing this?
Regards,
Kim

You could use this for Java 1.4:
DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
factory.setNamespaceAware(true);
factory.setValidating(true);
factory.setProperty("http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/properties/schemaLanguage",
                       "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema");
factory.setProperty("http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxp/properties/schemaSource",
                       "test.xsd");
DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
builder.setErrorHandler(new TOXSDErrorHandler(System.err));
Document document = builder.parse(fileHandler);

  • Validating XML documents against a DTD

    Guys I am new to XML and I have this requirement to validate a XML document against a DTD.This validation has to be done through my java application.In short , a user enters a XML data thru a JSP form ,and moment he presses the SAVE button my java program should validate the XML data against a DTD and then display any error or else save the data into an Oracle table.
    I was wondering lot of program/utitlities must be available out there which will do the validation for me ,rather than me re-inventing the wheel.
    Please advice.
    Thanks
    Manohar.

    You should go through this to learn more on XML with Java :
    http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/excerpt/learnjava_23/index1.html
    You can check following how to to parse XML doc against a schema
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/codesnippet/xdk/SchemaValidation/SchemaValidation.html
    You should also look at chapter 4 of following doc for parsing XML using java :

  • Validating XML against an XML Schema using PL/SQL

    Hello everyone,
    I've a strange problem.
    I'm trying to validate an XMLTYPE variable against an XSD schema using the XMLisValid function.
    The XML I was trying to validate was returning false (0) when using this method.
    However, when I register the XSD against a column in a table and then insert this XMLTYPE into that column, I do not get any errors. If I change the XSD to ensure failure when using this method, I do get an error, so it is registered and working.
    I have then created a very basic XSD and both methods work when validating the XML against this. So obviously the more complicated XSD I want to validate against is making a difference, but I would expect them to either both fail or both pass, not one fail and one pass.
    Does anyone know why they'd be returning different results?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Steps to validate XML data against a schema in Oracle:
    1. Register your XSD in the database.
    begin
    dbms_xmlschema.registerschema(
    SchemaUrl,
    SchemaDoc,
    local => TRUE/FALSE);
    end;
    2. For validating your XML document against your registered schema, here is a sample pl/sql block.
    declare
    v_xml xmltype;
    begin
    v_xml := your_xml_document;
    v_xml.schemaValidate();
    end;
    Hope this helps :)

  • Xmldoc.createSchemaBasedXML validation only validates against root element?

    I'm attempting to validate an XML document against a registered schema using xmldoc.createSchemaBasedXML.
    The only time I can get the validation to fail is if the top level element is incorrect.
    Otherwise it always seems to validate OK, no matter what errors are in the file.
    This is a slimmed down version of the XML output as it should appear:
    <students>
    <student id="10257">
    <personNumber>10302</personNumber>
    </student>
    </students>
    If I pass this to xmldoc.createSchemaBasedXML it does not error, which is correct.
    If I pass this:
    <monkeys>
    <student id="10257">
    <personNumber>10302</personNumber>
    </student>
    </monkeys>
    it fails with the error:
    ORA-31043: Element 'monkeys' not globally defined in schema 'http://www.ox.ac.uk/studentDataFeed'
    This is also correct.
    However, if I pass this:
    <students>
    <rabbit id="10257">
    <personNumber>10302</personNumber>
    </rabbit>
    </students>
    or this:
    <students>
    <student id="10257">
    <hedgehogNumber>10302</hedgehogNumber>
    </student>
    </students>
    it does not return any error.
    Am I misunderstanding the type of validation that will take place when we invoke this method? Or have I possible registered my schema incorrectly.
    Thanks for any suggestions
    Ben

    Where does one lookup bugs/issues, mind that I am not an Oracle employee or customer ?
    Maybe if it's not getting adressed/fixed in the near future, people can avoid triggering this bug by knowing what causes it. I'd appreciate at least getting to the description of the problem so that I can re-format documents/schema accordingly and still be able to use XDK with schema validation capability.

  • Validating XML document in Workshop 8.1

    Hi,
    I am new to Workshop. I have little experience with SAX or DOM. I found them
    very confusing.
    I am hoping Workshop 8.1 will provide a more user friendly solution. For a web
    application, on
    the client side, can Workshop validate an XML document, which is created from
    user entries on
    a browser form (Inquiry phase), against a predefined schema? Upon sucessful validation,
    the
    client invokes the web service which returns the result of the inquiry. Upon
    receiving the result,
    can the client augment the result with additional information from an external
    schema before
    displaying the result on the browser?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Mike,
    XMlbeans would provide with functionality to do what you are trying to do.
    Please refer to the SchemaChoice.jws sample which is shipped with Workshop.
    This sample shows how the document can be validated against a schema.
    Please refer to the following document for more information on this
    http://workshop.bea.com/xmlbeans/docindex.html
    Hope this helps.

    Search in SDN  there are many wiki's posted which gives step by step procedure.
    Check with the [Validating a field against table|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/x/CIHvB]

  • XSD or RELAX-NG validation for check-in form

    Hi,
    I have a set of XML files that I want to check in to content server and also have validated against an
    XSD schema (or RELAX-NG schema). If the validation of the XML file fails, the checkin should
    fail. The XML files would need to be updated on a regular basis.
    I am using 10gR3. I'm not so familiar with extending the content server to do
    this, and would appreciate any general guidelines or pointers to relevant
    documentation.
    Thank you

    XML converter (an add on to Inbound Refinery) could be used to display the contents with your XSLT choices but analyzing the file to prevent checkin would take data validation that would be custom. The CS does not care the file format or file type for checkin. Others have looked for analysis of file extension to stop checkin of certain extensions. This has been custom. I think there may be enhancement requests from customers for this kind of validation for the CS but it does not exist in the core yet.

  • Validate the input file against a given schema inside an orchestration and producing 2 different files based on the validation result

    HI All,
    I have a situation.
    I need to validate the input file against a given schema inside an orchestration and producing 2 different files based on the validation result.
    A predefined success schema in case of  validation success and negative schema structure for validation failure.
    any advice ?

    Hi Rachit,I following the blog
    http://dietergobeyn.be/validating-biztalk-messages-orchestration/ and stuck in few things
    I created a helper class with the name Validation and following code
    [Serializable]
        public class Validation
            private bool _isValid = true;
            public bool Validate(XmlDocument document, Type schema)
                XmlSchemaSet set = new XmlSchemaSet();
                if (typeof(SchemaBase).IsAssignableFrom(schema) && !schema.IsNested)
                    set.Add((Activator.CreateInstance(schema) as SchemaBase).Schema);
                ValidationEventHandler eventHandler = new ValidationEventHandler(HandleValidationError);
                document.Schemas = set;
                document.Validate(eventHandler);
                return _isValid;
            private void HandleValidationError(object sender, ValidationEventArgs ve)
                _isValid = false;
    public static bool ValidateMessage(XLANGMessage msg)
    XmlDocument xDoc = new XmlDocument();
    xDoc = (System.Xml.XmlDocument)msg[0].RetrieveAs(xDoc.GetType());
    Type t = typeof(Schemas.External.Invoice_v3_1);
    Validation validation = new Validation();
    return validation.Validate(xDoc, t);
    First thing, Do i need to write the ValidateMessage method inside the helper class or not ??
    If inside, how to add the reference of schema files in the statement (Type t = typeof(Schemas.External.Invoice_v3_1);)
     I tried adding the reference of my schema project but it is showing error.
    And what is to be written in the ValidateMessage expression shape in Orchestration ?
    Really appreciate your help.

    Stuffit is the only app I know of which can decompress its own format. Your Windows clients must use the free Expander to open them. Otherwise, use OS X's built in zip compression and they'll be able to open the files without the need of third party software. Right click on any item, or group of items and choose, "Compress xxx Items" (how it will read if more than one item is chosen).

  • Unsolved: unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document

    I'm trying to open a presentation I made some time ago, it is a .key file I used to open without any problems. Now the message appears:
    "Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document".
    I tried the solution described here, but it didn'd work: i change extension to .zip, unzip it and there is no index file. There are only pictures from the presentation in .tiff
    I also sent the file to my friends and they had the same problem opening it. It's very strange, I've successfully opened it before. And the problem is only with THIS file!
    Please help me out!

    Have you tried to create a new Keynote Presentation? Do you have another previously saved Keynote file you can try to open? These will make sure it is a problem with this specific presentation and not the whole program.
    Try to delete the Keynote Preferences. They are located in the folder Macintosh HD>Users>your username>Library>Preferences and titled com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist.
    Your profile shows that you are still on Mc OS 10.6.6, is that true? You might try to update to 10.6.7 as I believe that there was a font issue fixed in this update (I don't know for sure since I am still on 10.5.8).
    Try those and report back and we will see what we can come up with.

  • Error: No valid XML document received*_

    Hi All,
    We are connecting our CCMS system to NetWeaver J2EE engine on which E-Sourcing is running.
    For this we registered java component and hosts in cen.
    But we are getting error as : No valid XML document received
    Please can anyone tell me how to overcome this error.
    Thank you .
    Regards

    Hi,
    Please re-read the answer from Marc carefully.  He was in the exact same situation as yours:
    - Monitored system: NW CE 7.1
    - CEN: NW 7.01 (same as NW 7.0 EhP1)
    The link you posted is for CEN with NW 7.3 and monitored systems from NW 7.02 (and up).  Read the paragraph below the Caution sign:
    If you want to centrally monitor any system with a central monitoring system with release SAP NetWeaver 7.0, this procedure is not applicable. In this case, follow the procedure described in the newest Monitoring Setup Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 instead. You can obtain the Monitoring Setup Guide at the Internet address service.sap.com/operationsnw70 in the Monitoring area.
    You should look for (and follow) the right Monitoring Setup Guide as mentioned.

    The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
    The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...

  • URGENT - Error "Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document" - and there is no index file (so the usually suggested solution doesn't work)

    Hi there,
    As you see in the heading, I am getting the error "Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document". There has been a number of threads on this and there seems to be a usual work around that works in many cases, by changing the file extension to .zip and then looking for the index file and making some more extension changes...unfortunately, in my case (and it also happened to others), there is no index file, so the usually suggested solution doesn't work...Can someone please help? I am working on a tight deadline and would like to try and recover the file.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
