Reliability and Speed of Yahoo Push Email

Is anyone else finding Yahoo "push" email to be unreliable?
I find when it works, it works well, and I get emails that I send from a home email server in less than 1 minute. However sometimes it seems to fail completely or take a very long time. By fail I mean that the push fails, I can still pick up the email with a manual email poll.
I have ""Auto-Check" set to manual. So the only email that should work without a manual poll.
I'd be interested to hear the experiences of others?

I was unable to get Yahoo to recognize a different Reply-to: address, even when that was set up using the Yahoo web interface. That, plus the fact that it adds an ad at the bottom of each email made it a non-starter for me.
After a bit of a struggle, I was able to get Gmail set up and working just fine. Yes, you don't get the push mail, but hopefully they will add push IMAP at some point and all these problems will be moot.

  • Is Yahoo Push email working consistently for anyone?

There are several threads about people having problems with Yahoo Push email. Many solutions have been offered, but posts seem to indicate done of them work consistentl and over time. I am wondering if this is just an isolated problem some people (including myself) are having, or if it is really widespread and not working for all or most people, but a lot of folks just don't care. People who have reported this to Apple and/or Yahoo seem to be told this is not a known problem.
So, if you do have Yahoo Push email working consistently could you give a brief reply to let the rest of us know it is something unique to our setup, use, or account.
    Thanks.

Call iPhone tech support, and ask them to log a case for you. Be warned, however, that this doesn't seem to help... but let us know if Apple are able to provide an update that's worthwhile. Last time I called I was put through to a product specialist who -seemed- really interested in the issue, asked me to try some things (none of which helped, and all of which have been tried here by others) and call them back with results. Tried them, called back two or three times and left a message with the results, never heard back from them...
On previous calls I'd been told it was probably a Yahoo problem and to call them... Yahoo pointed me back to Apple. A common result from what I read here.

  • Yahoo Push email

    Hi
is there anyway I can get push email on my n96, i am currently using yahoo for my emails and would like to keep this
    Cheers

To be used with any Push service, your e-mail account needs to have POP or IMAP access to incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing - I think these are a paid-for extra service with Yahoo.
If you hav that already, try: https://email.nokia.com/

  • Iphone yahoo push email

is there definitely a plan for apple to fix the yahoo push problem? mine works infrequently but does work sometimes. most of the time i need to retrieve the email. this was the reason i switched to yahoo email.

Push is an IMAP account protocol - check the following:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push-IMAP
And the responsibility for implementing/providing this protocol is with an email account provider.
The service that RIM providers for Blackberry customers is unique. Apple may choose to provide the Push protocol for .Mac accounts but I think it is unlikely that Apple will develop and provide the same as RIM does for Blackberry customers.
I access an IMAP account (.Mac) and a POP account with my iPhone. I have no problems whatsoever with having my email accounts automatically checked for new messages every 15 or 30 minutes and if need be, I can manually check for new messages available.

  • No yahoo push email

With iPad, there appears to be no way to set up push email for Yahoo. My iPhone does it no prob, but there is not even an option for Yahoo push, only fetch and manual. Any ideas?

Emailed yahoo, here's what they had to say:
"Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mobile.
I understand that you are not able to use the push functionality when
using your iPad with Wi-Fi only, though it works on the iPad with 3G
capabilities. I am happy to address this with you.
We are continually working to make Yahoo! Mobile the best mobile
experience available. Unfortunately, push is not available via Wi-Fi. I
apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. However, I am
sending your product suggestion to the Yahoo! Mobile Product Group for
    review."

  • Replacement HD reliability and speed tests

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there has been a review of replacement HDs anywhere?
I want to replace my 60GB drive with a new, bigger one (running out of space) but want to read some reviews about different manufacturers reliability and comparative speed tests before I buy. - I don't want to go in blind and end up with a noisy, slow drive that crashes after 12 months!
I googled it but go nowhere after an hour!
I've read all the threads here about how to do the change and what spec to look for - thanks (very informative)
Thanks very much for your help.

Thanks - that is just the kind of thing I found - stand alone reviews by a shop.
What I am after is a comparison between competing brands - a Kind of Which? review with a 'best buy' in terms of cost per GB vs performance vs reliability. You know the sort of thing - magazines seem to do it all the time.
I know there has been much talk of 5400 vs 7200rpm - I don't need my mac to be running as fast as possible all the time, so i think that the 7200rpm HDs would be unnecessary - more expensive and I wouldn't use the extra performance.
All I need is more space, so a 160GB 5400rpm drive would be ideal I think.
    Thanks

  • OSX Server and Windows Mobile 5 push email service?

Pretty simple question...Can OSX Tiger Server "push" email to Windows Mobile 5 devices natively, or is there a 3rd party option available to do so? Microsoft Exchange 2003 is capable of doing this, however I would like to go all OSX at this point.
    Thanks

I have been researching this topic for a while now as well and haven't found a satisfying solution. Of course, you could set your phones to establish a connection every say 10 minutes to query if new email has arrived. There are also a number of hints, how to set up a second email address for forwarding messages to e.g. Blackberrys. Another issue, for which I haven't found a solution is how to sync your phone's email with your desktop machine, except for wireless.
Any progress you hear, please let me know.

  • New v1.1.1 feature - turning off Yahoo "push" email

Not sure if anyone has mentioned or noticed this, but if you have a yahoo account, when you click on your account, then click on "advanced", there is an option to turn "on" or "off" push mail.

Thanks Nathan. As I understand it, that is for international roaming.
I spend a lot of time in the Adirondacks, where I am roaming in the sense that I am using an AT&T "partner network," and two consecutive months of off-network domestic roaming in excess of their pretty stingy allotment can get you terminated, so I wish EDGE could be disabled there too, but it can't.
So next best is to disable all but one heavily filtered email account and stay away from widgets and web sites [g].

  • Can't turn off Yahoo Push Email Features

I have a Yahoo Mail Plus account, and with this service, my home and laptop computers download mail from the Yahoo POP server on a regular basis. As with any mail client and POP mail, each client sees the mail as unread until I read it on that machine.
However, Yahoo Mail Plus, when accessed online, sees the downloaded messages as read. This would be fine, but it also results in my iPhone thinking I never have new/unread mail -- so even if I have 20 new message, if they have been downloaded by my desktop computer, the Mail app on my iPhone will say there are no new messages (the messages are on the iPhone, but they appear as already being read). The crazy thing is, this happens even when I turn off the general push and Yahoo account specific push settings on the iPhone. I wish I could get my iPhone to treat my Yahoo mail the same as all my other POP mail accounts, but it appears the clever people at Apple and Yahoo don't allow this to happen. Anyone have any ideas on how to make my iPhone mail app treat my Yahoo Mail Plus account like a normal POP account?
Message was edited by: Rob Mitchell1

Sure Apple and Yahoo allow this, but it is up to the user to know the difference when creating the account. This is called garbage in = garbage out, which happens to everyone on occasion.
When creating a Yahoo account with the Yahoo account preset on the iPhone, the account is created as an IMAP account with Push access. Turning Push access off for recieved messages doesn't change or switch the account to a POP account. It is still an IMAP account with Push access turned off.
You want to access the account as a POP account. If so, delete your Yahoo account on the iPhone and when re-creating the account select "Other" instead. After the data entry on the first screen, select POP as the account type followed by entering the required settings for accessing the account as a POP account.

  • SMS, push email,  wi-fi and 3G?

SMS is working under iPhone OS 3.0 here in Japan now
If messages are sent by phone number they only work in-carrier. But Softbank (the iPhone carrier in Japan) also provides a free @softbank.ne.jp email address for SMS that works between carriers and also between regular PC email. And SMS is included in the basic contract here.
But... (is this the same in the U.S.?) SMS only works on 3G, not when wi-fi is on.
So if you have wi-fi turned on your SMS messages simply don't arrive.
The messages stay at the server though and when you are in 3G you can use an app that Softbank provides that lets you check your SMS messages.
I did a test before by (1) turning off wi-fi and (2) sending myself an SMS message from my Mac. Sure enough it arrived, with a nice push notification.
But when I turned wi-fi on and tried again nothing arrived. If I disable wi-fi and use the "check for new messages" app that Softbank provides they do arrive then.
I work at home, and am on wi-fi almost all the time, so it is fairly useless as is.
Is this the way SMS works in the U.S. too?
Another related question - when the iPhone goes to sleep is there a time-out after which the wi-fi also goes to sleep? It seems I've received MMS messages before even when in my house.
It's all sort of confusing to me.
In the meantime, Yahoo push email works just fine whether on wi-fi or not. So it's hard to understand the purpose of MMS.

I called Softbank and they said that's how it works. That's why they supply the separate app to download messages you missed while on wi-fi. In the U.S. does AT&T supply such a separate app to check for MMS messages that don't arrive when you are out of range?
that is a very cool idea... they have written an app that gets to the mms server via the internet... very clever!
In the U.S. are MMS messages sent to a phone number or to an ordinary-looking email address?
most cell carriers offer a [email protected] and a [email protected] here in addition to the messages that get sent to the phone number... here the sms one is usually just your [email protected] and the MMS ones vary from carrier to carrier (you can pick your name on some carriers)
Here you can use either. But if it is sent to the phone number it must be in-carrier between two cell phones. If sent to the email address it can be between carriers or even between cell phones and ordinary Internet email.
the us has very good interconnection between carriers... so there is not a problem sending from a sprint cell phone to an att cell phone or verizon to sprint or tmobile to att... they usually can transfer the message with no issue

  • C6-00. PUSH EMAIL not working and Nokia Messaging ...

Nokia Messaging doesn't delete / expunge with IMAPand PUSH EMAIL not working.. C6-00

I had a bad experience with my gmail account. It was really slow. 15min looks to work but it won´t make it faster as push email is not supported by gmail when using nokia devices ( I have read it somewhere on a gmail mobile compatibility chart at google help pages)
I have created an ovi mail account and it works as push email on my c6 00 (latest firmware). I have setup gmail to send a copy of all the incoming emails to my ovi account, so I have instant feedback at my phone of incoming mails.
The bad news of this workaround is that when I reply i´m doing it from my ovi account where y erase the mails after reading as I have the original mail at gmail.
I hope this helps someone that needs push+gmail.

  • Push email not working since purchasing iPhone 3G

Yesterday I bought an iPhone 3G to upgrade from my old iPhone. With the old iPhone and 2.0 installed, push email worked fine, as did the calendar and contacts to the most part.
When setting my new iPhone up, I told it to set up like my old iPhone which it did, but now push mail is not working. Calendar and contacts are fine, just mail. I've tried switching things on and off, restarting the phone, etc. but all to no avail. I've even deleted the MobileMe (who ever names these things should be shot... from now on I will call it iTools!) account, and recreated it using the assitant on the iPhone, but still nada... I still have to fetch the emails.
    Anyone got any ideas. Thanks.

iTools would be a stupid name too. It is not a set of tools, it is a set of features for your MOBILE phone. and it's like Microsoft Exchange whose first letters are M and E. i'm sure that ain't their reason, but it's just fine by me.
As for your problem, I've had some intermittent problems with my mobileme email being pushed as well. i'd say about 75% of the time it works (98.2% of statistics are randomly made up on the spot, including all those in this message!). i just chalk it up to growing pains and hope it fixes itself soon or i'll go back to my Exchange server which has been flawless so far.

  • Could someone KINDLY EXPLAINS push email with yahoo? THANK YOU

Trying to understand push email with yahoo because some have it working, some do not, some partially.
    If you are on ATT
    1) Do you get push email when you phone is locked? (Does it beep or vibrate?)
    2) Does it show you that you have new email on your wallpaper similar to how you get voicemails?
    3) Can you get push email over the EDGE network or just WIFI?
    4) I noticed that my email push isnt working, but whenever I unlock the phone, it seems to do a manual check, is this true? (I.E. If I leave the phone unlocked for hours it will not have the red text next to my mail icon, but if I lock->unlock, it instantly shows
If you are on non ATT network, will any form of push email work at all?
    THANK YOU, any information appreciated.

    1) Do you get push email when you phone is locked? (Does it beep or vibrate?)
    -It does both for me.
    2) Does it show you that you have new email on your wallpaper similar to how you get voicemails?
-The "Unread" count is displayed/updated on the icon on the home screen. It does not display a box overlay like missed calls or voicemail. I just hear/feel the beep and have to unlock the phone to see what happened.
    3) Can you get push email over the EDGE network or just WIFI?
-EDGE works when WiFi is OFF.
    4) ...whenever I unlock the phone, it seems to do a manual check, is this true?
-I hadn't noticed that. It does seem to manually check when I go to the Mail app.
My impression is that Push seems to be a little more reliable since 1.1.1, but I haven't tested it rigorously.
    Hope this helps,
    -Peter

  • Me & Yahoo Push Intermittent Email

First off, I owned the original iPhone and I had no problem with push email with Yahoo.
Ever since I got the iPhone 3G the email has become unreliable, even with the new 2.1 update and using a me.com email address.
It's very important in my work to receive messages quickly and the iPhone 3G (2.1 update) is dropping the ball on this.
Is there anything I can do to make push more reliable?
    Thanks

If Rogers can't figure then the money is on Rogers - if they COULD figure (or even 'advise') then you might be on your own, but as the can't then you've found the REAL flaw, probably (IMHO&E)!
It is no surprise how many operators globally are letting down their subscribers: they work on the basis of cost/risk versus return, and a single user's gripe is of insufficient value to make the average operator even flinch!
    Good luck!
