Relinking an Article to a Shared Folio??!!?

Hi I am trying to add an article to a folio and I get this message is return:
"An error has occurred while updating article layouts. The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found. Please relink the article to desired source files."
So I tried relinking the file and it said:
"An error has occurred while while getting the layouts for the article. The file '/Users/student/Documents/thehockeyrevelation/page4/advertisingequipment.indd' does not exist or is not valid."
Not sure what do to? Or what I am doing wrong? My files are still all placed in the same location??

If someone uses network drive/volumes called USER or USERS just unmount the drive and try uploading the article again. It may be one reason for the error “An error has occurred while updating article layouts. The InDesign file for the layout cannot be found.”
Try unmounting unnecessary volumes, and try again.
Or try working local and unmount all network volumes.

  • Updates to a Shared Folio

According to the documentation, Whenever you update an article in the shared folio, recipients are notified that an update is available when they open the library in the Adobe Content Viewer.
What exactly is an update to an article? For example, simply opening and closing the Indesign file, adding a new article to a folio, etc?
    Thanks.

If you select an article in Folio Builder Panel and select update, that's an update.
If you add a new article to a folio that's an update.
Changes to the metadata on any article or the folio, or changes to the metadata in Folio Producer are also updates.

  • Trouble viewing shared folio on PC or Mac

First, DPS is an awesome suite, I just need to learn more about it.
Second, I'm trying to share a folio and its content with several people to review, and they don't all have devices readily available to view it.  How do they view it on their computer in a browser?  I've logged in and there doesn't seem to be a 'view' option available anywhere?  It lets them go inside the folio and see the article names, but how do they view the articles themselves, as clicking them does nothing?

Well, the automated email says "To ... access the folio in the Folio Producer web client, click on the link above.... Users can also view the shared folio by...."  It is the confusion that bothers me.  A client with an ongoing publication will have devices, certainly.  But in the corporate world, things go out to people across other departments and disciplines that will not have / know how to use InDesign to preview a folio.  Some will probably not even have an Adobe ID.  So after we get them signed up and shared with, to expect them to know and understand that the link in the email is useless to them, that they should instead install the Adobe Content Viewer on a mobile device and that the shared item it will magically appear when they launch it is the problem.
Once you have logged in with your Adobe ID to DPS (which is already a Flash website, meaning it is capable of showing/playing almost anything!), it just seems neglectful for there to be no way to actually view the folios/articles.
But maybe there is some other way to share this interactive content prior to publishing that I am missing? But I'm only a Team CC member, so I don't think I have access to the social sharing thing, etc.

  • Sharing folio IPad problem

To test the sharing folio feature I went ahead and sent an email to one of my e mail accounts. If I open the link on my desktop browser it displays fine but if I try to open the link in an IPad using Safari I get the unsupported browser error. Is this part of the Adobe Apple feud?
But my goal is to share with someone who has an IPad and from what I read I can do this as long as the person I'm sharing with has an Adobe ID and the Adobe Content viewer. So if I sent to someone with those credentials how wil they be able to view it if they have an IPad as I could not ( only thru my desktop)
    R

There are two different sharing features in DPS, which can be somewhat confusing. There is the Share option in the Folio Builder panel menu that lets you share a folio with another user. There is also a social sharing feature that lets you share a published article in a custom viewer through facebook, twitter, or email. I assume you're talking about the Share option.
Once you use the Share command to share a folio with someone else, that person needs to make sure that their email account is verified to work with DPS. The easiest way to do that is to sign in to the Dashboard (https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com) and follow the prompts. When the recipient signs in to the Folio Builder panel in InDesign, they can see the shared folio and view it using the desktop viewer. If the recipient has an iPad, they just need to sign in to the Adobe Content Viewer using their verified Adobe ID, and the shared folio will appear.

  • Sharing Folio With Someone Via Email.

I'm new to DPS, and I'm creating a sample folio in order to see how it works.  The problem I'm having is that
the Folio articles themselves do not show up, i.e. no words and images as I see in InDesign.
Below is a description of what I did and what I see.
I created two articles and put them in one folio.  The very first thing I really want to learn how to do is how to share this with someone, especially someone like a potential employer, who may or may not have their own DPS or Adobe account.
So, I understand that in the Folio Builder there is a dropdown menu
on the top right corner of that window where you can select Share, and then enter in someone's email address.
I sent it to myself as a test, incidentally another email address than the one I have used to log into Adobe for my DPS use.
When I get the email, it contains a link.  The wording is like: MYNAME has shared the SAMPLENAME folio with you.
The email also has this line: To accept the invitation or access the folio in the Folio Producer web client, click on the link above.
So, when I click on it, it goes to a page on this domain: https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com, and
then loads this page with Digital Publishing Suite at the top.  A row of drop down menus and buttons, including a button named "Open."
Then it shows my SAMPLENAME folio in a row.
If I select the name of my folio, and click the "Open" button, it goes to a new page, with
Digital Folio Producer: Editor at the top, with SAMPLENAME next to it.  Then it has a row
of buttons and a slider for Thumbnail size. Below that are two drop down menus with
the names of my articles, SAMPLEARTICLE1 and SAMPLEARTICLE2.  Those dropdown
menus contain the options: Copy to...; Delete...; Lock; Rename...
I do not see my actual articles, words and images.  I do not see how to open these up.  I cannot find anywhere on the
internet, including in Adobe video tutorials, if anyone else has had this problem, or how to solve it.  Can anyone please help?

Bob, thanks again for responding.  I have to say though that I still need more clarification, or perhaps this is something that Adobe is not doing correctly.  In other words, can you pass this along up the chain, so that it is fixed, so that a team of engineers comes up with a better solution?  I'm talking about the regular sharing, not the "social sharing," which is beyond me as I don't have a pro or enterprise DPS subscription.
I need to understand exactly how I'm supposed to share a folio with someone.  I suppose that of the two evils, requiring an H.R. person to have InDesign with DPS installed on their computer versus having an iPad where they can download the free Adobe Content Viewer, then the ACV app is the lesser of two evils.
Can you please break it down into steps.
Such as 1.  Once having created a folio that I want to share I tell the person I want to share it with----go to
this web page: https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/welcome.html, create an account.  Then, tell me the
email address you used to create the account.  Then, download the Adobe Content Viewer on your ipad.
    Then, sign into that account.
    2. I select "Share" from the dropdown menu of the folio builder, and type in the email address they used to
register with Adobe's DPS page, and perhaps include a message and send it.
    3. The recipient sees the email, and then DOESN'T click on the links inside the email.  They just understand----or I tell them----that they should ignore the link------and go to their app, where they will see an update button, and then
they update it and it downloads the Folio I've been wanting to share with them.
    Is this correct?
If this is correct, why is it not spelled out this way anywhere on the site, or in the tutorial video?
And also, if this is correct, does this not seem crazy?
What is the point of the email being sent, which has links in it, if the links are not to be clicked?
Why can I NOT------just as an example off the top of my head----export a Folio in a format that can be
read by a standalone Adobe Content Viewer, that any person can download from an Adobe page?
Like the way an SWF file can be exported from Flash, and then played by a email recipient via a
standalone Flash Player.  Yes, you either have to send them a standalone Flash player, or they
need to download it themselves, but I don't think they have to register to do it.  And they don't
need to sign in within Flashplayer.
First of all, asking a recipient to download and register their own Adobe ID (let's assume they are not a
graphic designer) is bad enough.  But then, in order to share it with them, I send them an email with links
    that don't work as expected.
    I've got an idea.
Let's say that some people you want them to see the Folio on their ipad, not be able to
edit it, just view it such as with the Adobe Content Viewer app.  And there are other people where you want
them to be able to edit it in Folio Producer at this domain: https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com
How about there are two different actions in InDesign to take for these two very different scenarios?
Are you telling me there is one method that enables both of these outcomes?  This same email that's generated
is for these two separate purposes?
Even the method for viewing the shared Folio which is to sign in, within Folio Builder which is within InDesign, doesn't require going to the email.  The email seems to be sent just as an acknowledgment that you enabled this Folio to be
shared with a particular person (identified by their email address).
In other words, if you just want someone to take a look at it, and they have Folio Builder and thus Desktop Content Viewer, the "Share" action could enable sharing on the Adobe website, but an email doesn't actually need to get sent to the person with whom it's being shared.  The links in the email will just confuse them.
So, the https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com page, found through the link in the email is strictly for editing it the Folio outside of InDesign--------but you cannot view it in your browser.  In other words, if you don't have InDesign, then you
can edit in your desktop browser, and you can view it on your iPad, but you cannot edit it on your iPad, or view it in your desktop browser.  Is this correct?
I think something needs to be done, this process doesn't seem elegant.  And there needs to be more clear explanation of this process outside the forum.

  • Shared folio stopped updating in Content Viewer

It appears that updates have stopped being pushed to a relatively large shared folio that we're working on (it is still internal and has not been published). Updates to this folio were working just fine, but they seem to have stopped sometime in the past two weeks. Here's what I know:
I am logged into my Adobe account in Content Viewer
I can view the "old" version of the folio that's currently stored on my iPad
The new content is visible in Folio Producer Editor (so it made it's way from InDesign to Adobe's servers)
No "Update Available" message appears in Content Viewer
We've attempted to share the folio with other Adobe accounts, and it won't push out to their accounts
I tried archiving it on my iPad, and it's now completely gone from Content Viewer (even though it's still shared with my Adobe Account)
Updates to other shared folios and new folios are being pushed through just fine, so it appears that Content Viewer is communicating with Adobe properly. It's just this one large folio - with 50+ articles and metadata fully populated - that suddenly decided it didn't want to update anymore.
My fear is that the folio is corrupt and that we are going to have to rebuild it, which will likely take several hours. Is there a way to quickly clone and publish a folio?  Is there some new setting in Folio Producer that we need to activate? Would updating to the latest version of Builder and Producer Tools have screwed things up (which I doubt, since other folios are behaving normally)?
    Thanks,
    - Chris

I too having the same problem like you guys, it just suddenly stop working for me 3 days ago. It did noticed there's an update but failed to download it.
Cannot update libary.  An error has occurred.
Digtial publishing suite Tips, a magazine I just downloaded yesterday also having the same error.
I also noticed that my "Fast company" stop working as well, keep giving me the same error.
Some other DPS magzine fair bit better, didn't give me any error but have slow downloads.

  • Is it possible to view a shared folio without an iPad?

Is it possible to view a shared folio on a desktop PC or Mac with the adobe content viewer app?

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply. I'm a little confused though. When the viewer is opened it asks me to "Please select a .folio file". How do I open the shared .folio file?
Basically my problem is that the customer who is wanting to view the iPad app doesn't have an iPad to check it, and would like to view it on their desktop. Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Shared folio, unsupported browser

Any assistance with the following would be appreciated. I have looked through this forum to try to find an answer but haven't quite found it yet.
I just shared a Folio with a client and have given instruction for them to create their Adobe ID at digitalpublishing.acrobat.com using the email address that I shared the Folio to. When they tap on the shared link on their iPad and iPhone, they get an error saying that the browser is unsupported and that an upgrade is needed.
I have given direction to have them install the most recent Adobe Content Viewer on their iPad and login using their Adobe ID credentials. They will be able to view the shared Folio on the iPad that way.
Can you tell me how to resolve this unsupported browser issue though? I have tested on my iPad (2) and am having the problem as well. Obviously, we want to view the app itself using the Content Viewer on the iPad but shouldn't the shared user be able to see a browser based (acrobat.com) view of the folio as well?
    Thanks.
    Josh

As Bob said, the digital publishing suite online runs on flash
it's not possible to view that on the iPad - you have to use a desktop browser for that unfortunately
if they want to see the just the folio, they should be able to download it through the content viewer on the iPad if they sign in with the credentials you shared them..

  • Previewing a shared folio

    Hello guys!
I'd like to share a folio with someone who needs to visualize it in Desktop (Windows).
I came across the viewer that was launched for Windows 8.1, but I don't know if I'm able to preview a shared folio in it.
So, am I have how to preview this folio in Desktop?
    Thanks!

If the user has Windows 8.1 then yes, the ACV for that would allow them to view the folio after signing in with their Adobe ID.

  • Folio Producer, Shared Folios and Content Viewer

    Hi,
Forgive me if this answer is posted elsewhere and after some searching I wasn't able to find an answer.
I have several folios that students share with me. When you have 30 students or even more each semester sharing folios it starts to add up!
So, I was hoping I could use the Folio Producer to manage which folios (that they have shared with me) show up in my iPad content viewer app. I thought I could check, "Content Viewer for Web Only" in the bottom right of the window when I highlight the folio but when I do, the folio still shows up in the content viewer app.
The number of folios in my content viewer app is unyieldy and some folios aren't showing.
    1. Am I using that feature correctly?
    2. Is there any way to manage the folios so I can keep them but not have to delete?
    3. If folios are not showing in the content viewer app, does this mean there is a limit to the number of folios that can be viewed in the content viewer app?
    Thank you in advance.
    Deb

    1. No, that feature is for something entirely different (related to social sharing)
    2. Not really. When they are in your account they show up in Adobe Content Viewer. That's what Adobe Content Viewr is for: to show you the folios in your account.
    3. There's no limit. If the folios aren't showing up it probably means they aren't the right size for an iPad. They have to be 1024x768 or 2048x1536.

  • Sharing Folio - Source .indd files are not available for this article

when sharing a folio, and opening it up in indesign 5.5 all articles say:
"Source .indd files are not available for this article"
What is the point of sharing if you can't change articles and update them?

Because you’re not sharing the InDesign files, you’re sharing the folio.
Pretty similar to sharing a PDF but not the source files.
That said, I’m working on a project with someone else and everything sits in a Dropbox folder. Only I can update the folios but my partner has access to the InDesign files.

  • Sharing folios from the prerelease possible?

The folios we created from the prerelease, which are still tied to our app, do not show in the Folio Producer but they are there and are avaiable in IU Libris (our branded viewer up, which is now up to date with sharing options enabled). Since the prerelease folios do not show in the Producer, obviously we cannot unprotect them.
Is there any way around this? If possible, could Adobe do this for us? We want all of the prereleaase articles in our library to be unprotected.
    Thanks,

Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't have a way to use the old Content Bundler tool to unprotect articles. If you want to unprotect those folios, you need to publish them using the newer tools. Adobe cannot migrate the folios, but they should be easy to re-create through multiple import. Use all the same folio metadata.

  • Sorry to ask again... sharing folio in Adobe Content Viewer

First, I'm very impressed with the Adobe Content Viewer and CS 5.5.  IT WORKS JUST GREAT!
I've uploaded my files and have been able to see my interactive content.
Thanks for making the viewer a free app, because, according to the posts I've seen, I will be able to share my app, as I test it.
HOW DO I DO THAT, short of sharing my password to my free acrobat.com account?  I don't want to do that!
How do I share, without giving everyone my password to my account?
I realize that they sign up for the free viewer--and their own acrobat account.  But how do they get to my content?  Where do you put THAT address?  Is there a button I'm missing in the content viewer that points to 'other' content?
I know I'm missing a step...and sure could use a very simple explaination.
    THANKS!
ADOBE ROCKS, almost all the time!

  • Is there a way to organize shared folios in the content viewer app?

I have quite the collection of folios that have been shared with me. My list has grown quite a bit and it's getting harder to find certain folios in the Content Viewer App on my iPad. The ordering seems to be somewhat random. Is there any way to organize the list of folios? Bonus Question: Any way to create folders and place certain folios inside of folders?
    Thanks!

    Use library filters.

  • Problem with multiple article import under new Folio builder panel

    Hi guys,
If you try to import multiple articles in pdf format, it looks like they are imported as jpg's. No zooming functionality. If you try to do this one by one, there is no problem. This was already a problem if you upgraded to a newer version of CS5.5 under build 18 and 19 (7.5.2 I believe). But now it doesn't seem to work anymore in build 7.5.0. Is it maybe a solution to upgrade?? Need to upload 320 articles ini 2 times. You can imagine I like to do this in one time. :-)
    Thanks,
    Bart

    Hi Bart,
We had someone test this internally using CS5.5 and CS6, and v20 of our tools. When the folio was created as PDF, and then multiple articles were imported, the resulting articles are indeed PDF as expected. While you may see a progress window flash past and reference creating a PNG, that is likely for the thumbnail icons used for TOC navigation, etc., and not the actual article.
How are you testing the pinch and zoom functionality? By deploying the folio to an iPad device? Are you creating v19 or v20 folios? (I.e. have you just updated your panel or the tools as well?)
