Reload applet from server

Hi,
I have an applet 'appl.java' which takes an data.xml file(exists on server), the applet is embedded on a web page. A button is also provided on the web page. When the user clicks on that button the server updates the data.xml file(on the server), now I need to reload the data.xml file as input to the applet. so i decided to refresh the page so that the applet gets reloaded but the applet does not process the new data.xml file. How should I reload the applet on the page with new data.xml?

Hi Rajesh,
Verify that file data.xml is not in a directory with a content expiration set.
If so, the explorer will retrive it from cache.

  • Referencing a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page

    How does one reference a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page (i.e. via the applet, object, or embed tags)? I have seen references in documentation that this is possible, but I have not seen any examples. I have tried a few things, but nothing seems to be working.
    Some background...
    I'm working on a web site that aggregates Internet video. For many users, I would like the site to work "without" requiring Java to be installed (or any prompts, etc.). This version of the site allows users to stream videos directly over the Internet and does not require any sort of access to the local system.
    However, in addition, I have a download manager that can be installed on the local system. Currently, it's a Windows-based "service" that is always running in the background, downloading files, etc. (with plans to later support other OSes).
    My dilemma is trying to communicate between my web site running in the local browser (executing JavaScript code) and the download manager. I call this component the "gateway". I need the gateway to be able to do the following:
    1) Pass user credentials from the web browser UI to the download manager (so it can communicate with my servers).
    2) Check the status of downloaded videos
    3) Launch a local media player (such as Windows Media, QuickTime, etc.) (or perhaps tell the download manager to launch the media player).
    Under Windows XP, I have an ActiveX control that can do these things. It communicates with the download manager via reading/writing to a shared XML configuration file.
    Unfortunately, under Vista and IE7 Protected Mode, ActiveX controls have become very restricted and my gateway no longer works. As such, I am looking at using Java for the gateway (also giving me the additional benefits of supporting additional browsers and OSes).
    From my understanding, I believe I can created a "face-less" Java applet, whose methods can be called from JavaScript. Ideally, I'm thinking I could install the applet onto the local system at the same time the download manager is installed. This would give the applet the security permissions it needs to communicate with the download manager.
    Thanks for any help and suggestions!

    Hi,
    Put the .jar file and the .class file in the path mentioned in one of the aliases in the plsql.conf file like /images or create
    a seperate directory and create an alias like /applets "path" in the plsql.conf file.

  • Applet question, how to download resource files from server

    hi,
    i am new at applet world.
    i have an applet that reads some resource, data and configuration files. so i need to download these files from server to client. i did some resarch and could not find how to download files from server in an applet application.
    how can i do this task?
    thank you for your answers.

    You may want to distinguish between 'resources' and data/configuration files.
    'Resources' are non-class files that are part of your application, i.e without them the application would simply not work, just like class files.
    Those are typically images, sounds or resource bundles (GUI elements translated to different languages) that nobody except you, the developer, would touch (when releasing an upgrade or a patch).
    Those should just go into the applet jar or additional jars named in the applet tag.
    Data/configuration files, that may be changed by others than the developers, should be made available through HTTP, just like the applet jar itself. The applet will have (read) access to them using java.net.URLConnection.

  • Copy a .swf file from server side to client using signed applet

    Hello All,
    I already have my applet signed and its working pretty well. However I want to know how can I import a .swf file into clients machine. The .swf file initially is on server side, my applet checks whether this .swf file exists already on client machine. If not it copies it to his machine.
    I know how to chk if the file already exits on client machine but I am not sure how to copy this .swf file to his machine if its missing.
    May be I need to set some input buffers from server side and then copy them to his machine.
    Can some one throw some light on this issue ??

    Hello to all Java Code Masters out thr,
    I am trying to copy a .swf file from server side to client side, however I am unsuccessful in writing the correct data. By correct data I mean that , the data does gets saved on the client side in the .swf file, and the size of the .swf file on client side is as expected, but some how I don't know why the data is not the same as expected.
    I tried opening up both the swf file, one which is on server side and the other which is on client side. And both looked different in the notepad.
    When I opens up the client side .swf file on browser it shows nothing while the .swf file on server side worked fine.
    Here is a snap shot of the two .swf files when opened in notepad:

  • Clear the applet from cache

    Hello,
    I use the following html code to open my signed java applet.
    <APPLET CODE="Applet.class" ARCHIVE="applet.jar" WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=100>However if I make some changes into the applet code and open the HTML file in the browser, I see that the applet is being picked up from the applet cache. Thus if users have caching enabled on their systems they will not be able to retrieve the new version that I have made.
    Is there a way to trigger the browser to download not to use the applet from the cache whenever an updated copy is available on the server.
    I need this fix for IE, Mozilla, Netscape..
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    the easiest solution (for me, at least, it was): when you want to reload an applet type x in the java console (it openes when you load the applet; if it doesn't open you may find it in the icons bar at the bottom of your screen) and then reload the applet
    Hope it helps, good luck!

  • Unwanted reloading Applet behavior

    I have a dynamic JTree component on an applet and as and when the user uses the application, nodes are added to or deleted from the JTree. But looks like the Applet behavior is to reload the applet everytime it is revisited or minimized/maximized, and hence the JTree goes back to the initial empty tree state. The JTree's root is initialized in the init() and every time the user adds/deletes a node, the JTree is modified to reflect those node changes. But since the applet is part of a multi-frame HTML, the applet gets reloaded each time and reverts back to its initial state.
    How can I stop the applet from invoking the init(), start() and stop() method each time? Or is the alternative to using a custom JTree Data model, one that reads its data from a Database make more sense? In that way, everytime the applet is reloaded, the JTree reads the latest data from the database and does not go back to initial empty tree state?
    Thanks for all your replies in advance!

    If your applet is reloading, then it will go back to the initial state - invokes init method. To create persistent objects, you may be better off to store the state of the object on your server as a file (object serialization) or a data base. So, that you can reload the previous state even when the init method is invoked - applet reloaded.
    But if you are just maximizing, minimizing, cover/uncover the broswer that has the JApplet with the JTree it should be able to maintain it's current state since only repaint methods are invoked and not init.

  • How to copy file from server to another machine in network through JSP

    Hello!
    any body can solve my problem.
    i m working in JSP. i want to copy a file from server on which JSP engine is running to another computer in the same network.
    i used Java File Object to copy file from one machine to another in network. and its working fine on network. but the problem is when i used the same code in web page there is exception which is Access is Denied. what i should do now.
    i m writing the code i m using in my JSP page
    String fileToCopy = "C:/oracle/Apache/Apache/htdocs/FAO/FAO_MiddleFrame.jsp";
         String destinationDir = "\\\\af09\\c";
    File source = new File(fileToCopy);
    String fileName1 = source.getName();
    if ((!destinationDir.endsWith("\\")) && (!destinationDir.endsWith("/"))) {
    destinationDir = destinationDir + "\\";
    File destination = new File(destinationDir + fileName1);
    if (!destination.exists()) {
    if (!destination.createNewFile()) {
    //throw new IOException("Unable to create file. May be you don't have permissions.");
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(source);
    FileOutputStream outStream = new FileOutputStream(destination);
    int bytesRead = 0;
    while ((bytesRead = in.read(buffer)) != -1) {
    outStream.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
    out.println("File copied successfully ....");
    plz reply me as soon as possible.
    i will be very thankful
    Saad

    Thats the way it works. Cause servlet contaner doesnot allow other machines in the network to access other than machine which it came from as in case of applets. What you can do is if the other machine is also based on webserver or app server .. you can upload the file as it gets to that page do the process.
    I would like to hear more on my comments..
    Suggestions ??

  • Problem loading Applets from Jar files on 64 bit machine

    I am developing an applet (extends Applet but uses swing components) using JDK 1.6 (Though these problems still happen in JDK 1.7) and I am unable to get the applet to load on a 64 bit machine in most cases. The web server(s) are running on localhost and I am connecting on the same machine using a local network ip address (such as 192.168.*.*)
    Below are all of my test results. Can someone provide a suggestion for repairing this? The Windows Server machine is a clients computer I access to it via remote desktop but I can't do much with it though I do have administrator rights. The Windows 7 machine is my development platform so I have been able to do extensive testing on it.
    This problem is presenting in the following environments when trying to load an applet from JAR files in a HTML document using the Applet or Object tag.
    Windows Server 2008 (Intel Chipset)
    Tested Browsers:
    Internet Explorer 9 (32 bit) - Shows it is blocked by default then simply shows an x when loaded from a web page, same result when loading from local drive.
    Windows 7 Home Premium (AMD Chipset)
    Tested Browsers:
    Firefox 6.0.1 (32 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner, after a few minutes there is finally an error that a class in the jar was not found
    Internet Explorer 9 (32 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner, after a few minutes there is finally an error that a class in the jar was not found
    Internet Explorer 9 (64 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner and most of the windows desktop manager freezes, keyboard is the only thing that responds so you can alt-tab to another app to regain control of the desktop.
    Chrome (32 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner, after a few minutes there is finally an error that a class in the jar was not found
    The only way I have been able to get a Java applet to run on a 64 bit machine are the following ways.
    Firefox 9 nightly (64 bit) works perfectly! Go Firefox!
    Internet Explorer 9 (32 bit) loading directly from drive (c:\...)
    Chrome (32 bit) loading directly from drive (c:\...)
    Firefox 6.0.1 (32 bit) loading directly from drive (c:\....)
    Can someone please help! I've been fighting with this bug for over a week and I can't find anything that will solve it, I have noticed that in some cases if my jar has very little code in it than it will run on the server, but the minute I start adding things to it the jar won't load anymore.

    To clarify...
    1. You have tried it on 32 bit machine? Exactly which OS?I tested this on Windows Vista Business which is in 32 bit mode and the applets run without any problems
    >
    2. Your only 64 bit tests have involved 2008/Win7?
    If so then I would suspect something with windows not java. Probably permissions.
    The web server(s) are running on localhost and I am connecting on the same machine using a local network ip address (such as 192.168.*.*)
    Yes, I haven't tried running the jars on other operating systems.
    >
    I don't understand that. If you are running on localhost then you should connect to localhost. If running on an IP then you should connect to that. Perhaps you meant that you have tested using both of those?I'm testing using the lan ip address but I'm connecting from the same machine. I've tried localhost and that didn't work so I tried lan ip since that will likely have a different java security context than localhost. At first I was blaming the IIS server but I downloaded the jar directly and using HTTP fox was able to verify that the jar is being sent with the correct mime-type and that the server can upload the jar file without a problem. This leaves me to believe the problem is with Java.

  • How do i reload OS X Server on Mac Mini, App store says installed but no reset or reload, system tells me to reinstall

    how do i reload OS X Server on Mac Mini, App store says installed but no reset or reload, system tells me to reinstall?

    Reboot holding down the Command and R keys.  This will get you in to the Recovery partition.  From there you can reinstall the entire OS.  Please note, Server.app will not be included in the reinstall.  You will need to log into your App store account to download it.

  • How to prevent applet from InterruptedException when the page is refreshed

    Hi Guys,
    Is there a way we can prevent an applet from being interrupted when the user navigates away or refreshes the page ?
    I am getting the below error whenever the user invokes the applet and navigates away or refreshes the frame.
    My requirement is the make the applet complete it action before it is destroyed or stopped.
    I am not sure if this problem is due to new java life cycle. I tried setting the legacy_lifetime=true and I got the same error or java.io.IOException when legacy_lifecycle=true

    An applet cannot access the client's filesystem. So there's no worry. All the .class files come from the server, unless you're using a ClassLoader to explicitly load from a certain location in clients hd with all the necessary security permissions.

  • Error when create JLabel with ImageIcon from server

    Hi!
    When I run applet that contain JLabel(String, ImageIcon, int) from server I get follow error: "java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission middle-1.gif read)". .gif-file and .class-file are located in the same directory. From local disk this applet run successfully. Who can help me?
    Thanks.

    Look at the docs for Applet class, and use getImage()
    from there. Running in browser is quite different
    than to run locally...
    Better yet to pack image and classes in jar file,
    and read from there with getResourceAsStream()
    ( search forums, there were examples )

  • How to get started on java applet client/server game?

    Hi,
    I've googled, but didn't find any useful information about creating java applet client/server game. I've followed the example of Client/Server Tic-Tac-Toe Using a Multithreaded Server in Java How to Program from Deitel, but I when I tried on Applet, my cliet doesn't communicate with the server at all. Any help to get started with Applet would be great. Thanks!

    well, i decided to put in portion of my codes to see if anyone can help me out. the problem I have here is the function excute() never gets called. here is my coding, see if you can help. Notice, I'm running this on Applet thru html page. This shouldn't be much different than running JFrame in term of coding right?

                try
                    players[i] = new Player(server.accept(), i);
                    runGame.execute(players);
    catch (IOException ie)
    stop();
    gameLock.lock();
    try
    players[Player1].setSuspended(false);
    otherPlayerConnected.signal();
    finally
    gameLock.unlock();
    Client.java
        public void init()

        public void startClient()
            try

                stop();
            ExecutorService worker = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(1);
            worker.execute(this);
        }So after worker.execute(this), it should go to Server.java and run the function execute() right? But in my case, it doesn't. If you know how to fix this, please let me know. Thanks!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Assuming that your applet is not in a jar file (don't see a value for archive)
    you have a file callsed ProcessStatus.class in a folder WEB-INF\classes relative to
    the location of the jsp file.
    So if the jsp file is in
    myJSPFileFolder
    the class should be in:
    myJSPFileFolder\WEB-INF\classes
    If you want to see when the jre is trying to load and where it it trying to load it from you
    can inspect a full trace, to turn the full trace on (windows) you can start the java console, to be found here:
    C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4...\bin\jpicpl32.exe
    In the advanced tab you can fill in something for runtime parameters fill in this:
    -Djavaplugin.trace=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
    if you cannot start the java console check here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\userName\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
    I think for linux this is somewhere in youruserdir/java (hidden directory)
    add or change the following line:
    javaplugin.jre.params=-Djavaplugin.trace\=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option\=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
    for 1.5:
    deployment.javapi.jre.1.5.0.args=-Djavaplugin.trace\=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option\=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect
    The trace is here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\your user\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\log\plugin...log
    I think for linux this is somewhere in youruserdir/java (hidden directory)
    The trace should show something like :
    Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://server/location/filename.class (The system cannot find the path specified)

  • Calling an applet from servlet

    Hi
    I'm devoloping a server side java software(on netbeans 6) and I want my gui classes(Designed as swing japplet application) to be executed on server side.
    I mean I have database operations on my applet and some logging functions and I want them to execute on server side not client side
    Is it possible to call applets from servlet and so its executed on server if it is possible how can i do that is there a tutorial for that ?
    If it is not is there any other solution? Its really urgent for me
    Thanks

    Is it possible to call applets from servlet and so its executed on server if it is possible how can i do that is there a tutorial for that ?It's possible for a servlet to call any class. It's not easily possible for a servlet to connect to a certain applet instance running on a certain client, and neither should it. Hello - it's the server. It's supposed to answer to requests. It's not supposed to issue requests to the client. And considering your set-up as I understood it, you don't ned that anyway. Let the applet just tell the servlet to do action X or Y or Z.
    Its really urgent for meGood Thing that you wrote it here. If you had written it at the beginning of your post, I wouldn't have bothered to answer.
