Reload web-inf/web.xml file without restarting tomcat

Please help me if any one have a solution .
I am doing development in jsp, servlet. I am using tomcat5 as a webserver.
i want to reload web-inf/web.xml file without restarting tomcat.

From the tomcat admin page you can stop/start and refresh individual applications. See the tomcat documentation. Which, when you have a question about tomcat, you should always do first.

  • Using a Variable from web-inf/web.xml in java code?

I would like to create a read-only variable with a value in the /web-inf/web.xml file and then access that value within a java service method within the Application Module.
Where / how do I read the value from the web.xml file and make it accessible within my java code?
    thanks

    Hi,
you can define context parameters in web.xml that you can access from Java in the web application
The following is a JSF examle that checks a context parameter in a PhaseListener, where the string is stored ina Java constant (could be "myParam")
    ExternalContext exctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
    useSessionPageCache = exctx.getInitParameter(Constants.USE_PAGE_CACHE) == null ? false :
    (exctx.getInitParameter(Constants.USE_PAGE_CACHE)).equalsIgnoreCase("TRUE") ? true : false;
From here you can call a method on the AM to set the value or look for another option.

  • WEB-INF/web.xml not found exception for deployed war on server startup

Weblogic server is throwing an exception indicating that it can't find
web.xml on startup when a particular war file is deployed. The exception
              and my web.xml follow below.
There are some other strange elements to this:
              1) The deployed war in the application directory has a valid web.xml in the
              web-inf folder.
              2) The war in the servers temp directory corresponding to my war contains
only the files found in WEB-INF in the deployed jar, but not those found in
web-inf (case matters). These files are in the root of the war, not in a
              WEB-INF folder!
              3) The servlets in the war do load and are invokable.
              4) If I redeploy the jar while the server is still running, I get no
exception, and the temp war then has the correct structure (with a WEB-INF
              folder and contains web.xml).

              Interesting.
              This shouldn't happen though.
Can you stop the server delete the .wl_temp_do_not_delete
dir? Let's see if that makes any difference.

    Hello
I have a war module with this:
    /index.html
    /pages/ (my pages)
    /pages/js (my js)
    /pages/images (my images)
    /WEB-INF/classes/ (my servlet classes)
    /WEB-INF/lib/ (my lib jar files)
    /WEB-INF/web.xml (descriptor)
    ok,
    I run deploy tool,
open this war file (module), (ex mod1.war)
convert to ias module, modify the descriptor,
    verify (everything ok)
    save module
    create ear (ex ap1.ear)
put this module within this ear
    create and save ear descriptor
    save ear
    verify (everything ok)
    deploy ear.
    ok,
Why decompress my lib jar files in:
    /APPS/ap1/mod1/WEB-INF/lib
These wil be fine if decompress the entire jars, but only extracts the class
files and no the xxxx.properties neither messages.txt; exactly
no extracts files that aren't .class. ???
Are there any workaround to this that isn't copy the files? Figure not to
have ftp acces in a sun? What we have to do?
    Thanks.

In iWS 6.0, the context information such as a context path of the web application and other properties are defined in web-apps.xml file.
'class-loader' element in web-apps.xml file can be be used to specify the class path to a web application and customize how the application is serviced.
Refer to example web-apps.xml file in Prog. guide to Servlets for more details.

  • Please enable REST support in WEB-INF/conf/axis2.xml and WEB-INF/web.xml

    Hi  All,
we are not able to connect to Live office to our server . URL is  not authenticated in Excel and  if we place same url in browser ,we are getting below error message.
"Please enable REST support in WEB-INF/conf/axis2.xml and WEB-INF/web.xml"
we couldn't able to rest the same after changing settings in axis2 file also.
Any solution where we can configure in CMC or any files
    Regards
    Mahesh

    Hi Mahesh,
As mentioned by Abhilasha, this is the expected behavior.
In order to validate you could place the following URL in the browser.
http://servername:portno/dswsbobje. you would see Tomcats home page which will display the list of Services.
As far as the Live office in Excel is concerned , If you are getting a yellow  exclamation mark stating (Web service not correct) next to Session URL, try changing the servername to IPaddress of the server.
    Eg: http://ipaddress:portno/dswsbobje/services/Session
While inserting the Session URL in the Live Office settings confirm the URL as per above.
If the issue still persists, you could configure the host file entry in you client machine.
Let me know if the information is helpful.
    Regards,
    Noopur

  • WAR Deployment Problem (WEB-INF/web.xml not found)

I have a war application and WebLogic 5.1 with Svr Pack 8 failed to deploy it
when it start up. Here is what I did,
              1. I jared all necessary files including WEB-INF\web.xml in the myapp.war file;
here I used all uppercase for WEB-INF directory, but after I jared it, it shew
up web-inf\web.xml but WEB-INF\lib\pushlet.jar in the myapp.war file. I think
this is the behavior of jar program.
              2. I appended the myapp.war to the weblogicclasspath in the start script;
              3. In weblogic.properties file, I specified two lines:
              weblogic.httpd.webApp.myapp=c:/weblogic/default/myapp.war
              weblogic.httpd.defaultWebApp=myapp
              4. Then I start up the WebLogic server named "default". It shew the following

  • Reload a jar in weblogic server without restart

    Hi All,
We are using weblogic version '10.0.1.0' and have 'reports.jar' file in server for reports.
If we change any existing class file under 'reports.jar' then we are using below steps in order to recognize a modified jar by weblogic
    1) We need to recreate a jar using eclipse in local IDE and
    2) Copy the 'reports.jar' into server
    3) Need to restart server inorder to recognize the modified jar
Is there any alternative solution to reload a jar in weblogic server without restart?
    Please do the needful.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Gangadhar

    Hi,
If this is for weblogic running on development mode, then you can go for auto-deployment feature where weblogic will auto-deploy modified application from autodeploy directory.
For production mode, you can go for production-redeployment feature of weblogic where it uses application versioning. So for example you deployed webapp1 with version app1.0 and then for new release you will deploy webapp1 with version app2.0 adding a retirement policy to retire old application after said time and start using webapp1 with app2.0.
Refer to link for mode detail - http://middlewaresupport.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/production-redeployment-feature-in-weblogic/
    rank it if found useful

  • I am wondering if there is a way to validate XML file without using .......

I am wondering if there is a way to validate XML file without using the <!DOCTYPE... but pass in the location of the schema/DTD file as a parameter to a validating method?
    thanks

None that I know of. The only thing close is to use the EntityResolver interface where you can modify the location of the DTD file before it's being loaded and parsed, but that requires a <!DOCTYPE ...> in the XML file.
    Good luck.

  • Upload of Customs Duty Rates (xml file) without transport request creation

    Hi All
Can we upload the Customs Duty Rates (xml file) without transport request directly in the system.
    Thanks & Best Regards
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
Please check transaction & program /SAPSLL/TLC_CUSB_UPL in GTS.
This allows you to upload the XML from a local source or an application server path.
I do not think a transport request is required in this scenario.

  • How to include xml file without embedding in flex web application?

    Hi
I have a big XML file around 11 mb. I want to include this xml in my web application without embedding.
So anyone have idea to include.
    Please suggest me any idea.
    Thanks

If you don't want to embed the XML file into a SWF, then the SWF can download the XML file from the server at runtime when it needs it. But there will be a delay while that happens. Maybe it would be better to put the data in the XML file into a database and then access only the parts of it that you need.

  • OAS 10.1.3 isn't detecting /WEB-INF/lib jar files within WAR file

    Hello,
I have been developing and testing a simple non-EJB web application on Tomcat 5.5 with no class loading difficulties for the past several months. All of the needed JARs for my app are located under the WEB-INF/lib directory. My next task is to deploy the WAR file containing my webapp on the Oracle 10g (10.1.3) application server.
The problem I am having when trying to do this is that when I deploy the WAR file from Oracle Enterprise Manager, the WAR file will expand correctly but at runtime OAS doesn't appear to be detecting the JAR files in the WEB-INF/lib folder of my WAR file. I have confirmed that the JAR files are indeed being expanded in the directory that OC4J expands the WAR file into:
    appserver/j2ee/home/applications/appEARFile/MyWebApp/WEB-INF/lib.
But when I run the application, from the Firefox browser I immediately get the following 500 Internal Server Error:
"Servlet error: Error instantiating servlet 'reports'. Servlet class org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet not found in web-application MyWebApp"
(The IE browser just gives me the 500 error without additional elaboration.)
But my spring.jar where that class is located is in the WEB-INF/lib directory. Does anyone have an idea what the solution is--how can I get OC4J to read the spring.jar (or any jar) in that lib folder? (Or is there a way I can configure logging to better pinpoint the problem if that isn't it?)
    Thanks,
    Glen

    Glen,
    You said:
IE browser just gives me the 500 error without
additional elaborationTry unsetting the "Show friendly HTTP error
    messages".
From the "Tools" menu of Microsoft Internet Explorer,
    choose "Internet Options".
(You should then see another window entitled
    "Internet Properties" displayed.)
Select the "Advanced" tab and search for "Show
    friendly HTTP error messages".
Excellent--that worked. Thanks! I was afraid that I would have to be debugging on Firefox exclusively.
    I also suggest setting the
    "search-local-classes-first" attribute, of the
    "web-app-class-loader" element, in your
"orion-web.xml" file to 'true' (if it isn't
    already).
That did it. My orion-web.xml file was of the old DTD-based version, I believe that was causing the problem.
    The following document:
    Oracle® Containers for J2EE
    Developer’s Guide
    10g Release 3 (10.1.3)
    Part No. B14433-01
has a chapter (3) entitled Utilizing the OC4J
Class Loading Framework which contains a section
    entitled Troubleshooting Class Loading-Related
    Problems in OC4J.
Thanks for the link, I went through it thoroughly in trying to fix my problem.

  • Working with tag-library which is packed in WEB-INF\lib\jar-file.jar:

    Hi,
When importing a webworks war file, which contains default taglib.tld in the webworks.jar which is packed in /Web-Inf/lib/webworks.2.1.7.jar the war file.
I am getting following error while running the jsp.
Error(6): duplicated tag definitions within the same TLD: text
    Error(6): java.lang.NullPointerException
Error(6): Unable to load taghandler class: /webwork
Line which points to Errors is "<%@ taglib prefix="ww" uri="/webwork" %>"
    But, There is a taglib.tld in /Web-Inf/lib/webworks.2.1.7.jar!\meta-inf\tablib.tld
    which mentions uri as
    <taglib>
    <tlib-version>2.2.1</tlib-version>
    <jsp-version>1.2</jsp-version>
    <short-name>WebWork Taglib</short-name>
    <uri>/webwork</uri>
    </taglib>
But, There is no following entry for '/webwork' (uri) in web.xml
Same war is working fine in tomcat webserver.
Can anybody explain me how to work with this kind of a setup, where taglib is packed in some jar which is packed in Web-Inf/lib dir.
    Thanks,
    Siva

I found the problem. The web-app was finding the class in the APP-INf/lib. But the problem was being caused due to a reference to another class that was being loaded by the webapp classloader which was not visible to the class inside the common jar. The solution was to make sure both classes were being loaded by one class loader.
    Thanks anyway

  • Web.xml file problem in tomcat

Hi i need help in this... its urgent
currently i just subscribe to a web hosting site and i need to start the private tomcat in the web server..
The followings are the instructions and i have follow them but i do not know how to create a web.xml file to store in the folder indicated for example a HelloServlet that im testing :
To setup servlet, you need to configure servlet into the file web.xml which needs to be placed in /var/www/html/WEB-INF directory.
    www root directory or webapps:/var/www/htm
    Classes directory located in: /var/www/html/WEB-INF/Classes/
There you will need to upload your Java class file.
Our default url-mapping for servlet is: /servlet/*
To check servlet in your browser: www.mydomain.net/servlet/HelloWorld
Jsp Files - Upload anywhere in /var/www/html
all the above steps are follow except the web.xml file which i suppose to write and store in the folder... but i actually try to write one but i still cannot load my servlet on the webpage... test on standalone tomcat works.
    pls help its urgent!!!

first sorry about cross posting the subject. i didnt know i am not suppose to do that. i post in a few forums that are related to my topic. sorry
The tomcat on the web server is of version Private J2EE / Tomcat 4.1.29 and the standalone tomcat i am using is also tomcat 4.1
the web.xml in my standalone server in root/web-inf/ is as follows and it is configure for authentication purposes. It works together with the tomcat-users.xml located on conf directory
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

using this web.xml, my stanalone web pages works fine for all servlets and jsp. however if i copy this over to the web server, i still cannot load my servlets and jsp. moreover it doesnt work for authentication purpose anymore. i don't know why too
i have try the codes you write before and it also doesnt work
the problem is i cannot get the support form the web hosting site. This is the link that suppose to teach me but it doesn not tell me how to configure my web.xml
