Remote Database Connection DB2 - Oracle

Hi All
We need to maintain a remote db connection in DBACockpit. We are on DB2 UDB and we need to connect to Oracle. We have all the connection details.
Now my query is do we need to maintain connection details at DB2 level also , or is it enough to maintain them in DBACockpit.
Basically i need to connect from my SAP BI system which is on DB2 UDB 9.1 to Oracle Database.
In oracle we can connect to different databases using TNS functionality, is something there like TNS in DB2 where we have to maintain the remote DB connection details? If yes request you to provide some relevant document for the same
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Kaleem.

Hi Kaleem,
if you want to administer your ORACLE database through DBACockpit, you need to prepare your system for a DBSL multiconnect to ORACLE as described in note 339092 ( i.e. install ORACLE client, ORACLE DBSL library, etc. ).
This multiconnect can also be used for BI Connect.
If you just want to query some ORACLE tables in your DB2 system, you may also consider to use the DB2 federation feature to create ncicknames within your DB2 database that point to ORACLE tables. In this case I suggest to consult the DB2 manuals on how to do this. You may also have to install an additional DB2 license for the hererogenous federation feature to create nicknames to ORACLE tables.

    You don't need a DSN if you use Oracle's JDBC driver.

    Hi,
    It seems you are fetching records from one database to other. for that you need to create dblink for that.
    Create dblink first and then try to fetch records using that dblink.
    ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found
    Cause: An attempt was made to connect or log in to a remote database using a connection description that could not be found.
    Action: Specify an existing database link. Query the data dictionary to see all existing database links. See your operating system-specific Net8 documentation for valid connection descriptors.

  • Create database connection for oracle ver.8.1.7.4 unsucessful

    I trying create a database connection with jdeveloper 11g to db oracle ver.8.1.7.4, but the connection return error "Test failed: Unsupported Oracle database version". I selected connection type: "Oracle (JDBC)" and initially selected driver: "thin", after exchange to driver: "oci8", but return error: "Test failed: no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path". Created on menu > Tools > Preferences > JDBC driver options a new driver: "some.jdbc.Driver" pointing to Driver class: "some.jdbc.Driver", library: "oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver", class path: "c:\...\oracle\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar".
    Tried to create with this driver with the option "Generic JDBC" pointing to this driver created and using jdbc url: "jdbc:oracle:thin:@//255.255.255.255:1521/ServerId", but return error: "Test failed: Driver class not found. Verify the Driver location"
    Now, i don´t know to do!!!

    John,
    i have the data corporate in this DB in this version. I have already tested with the oracle JDBC driver: "ojdbc14.jar" and works in the "Eclipse" IDE, but i want to use with jdev, understand? Can i test only with this jdbc driver if i set "generic JDBC"?, because if i set "oracle JDBC" this driver is pointing to oracle 11g driver. Is there a "step-by-step" to set this correct procedure? I cannot set "oracle JDBC" of list because the driver class is disabled.

  • Database Connection to Oracle from Sun Studio

    I am trying to connect to Oracle 9i from the Sun IDE.
    When I test the driver from the databases in the runtime tab, it gives me the following message:
    Internal test driver incomplete. The driver may not support DatabaseMetadata methods.
    The output window shows this:
    Warning: No tables were found. Check your database.
    Warning: No views were found. Check your database.
    Warning: No procedures were found. Check your database.
    If I try to connect, it seems to connect successfully.
    When I expand the jdbc folder it show 3 folders, one for tables, one for views and one for procedures, but they are empty.
    I also set up the classpath to point to the drivers.
    Anyone know the answer?
    Jim

    I was successful and here're some pointers:
    When you configure the new data source for Oracle, configure the server type for Oracle Bundle and define the proper driver class name and add the proper jar file
    Also:
    Check the database URL
    Userid/password
    Typicaly the Driver Class can be: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    And the DB URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@<host>:1521:<SID>
    (If connecting using thin drivers)
    Good luck ;-)

  • How to make new database connection using Oracle BI Interactive Dashboards

    Hi,
    I install Oracle BI Intelligence on my system.
    I am using Oracle BI Interactive Dashboard. Here we have default database connection.
    but now i want to use it for my own database. Can any body give me guideline how to
    make a new data base connection using this s/w or how to connect to my database so
    that i can make my own reports.
    I am using
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/saw/saw.html
    this link.
    i make odbc connection which is fine.
    but
    Restoring the Business Intelligence Presentation Catalog and Updating Metadata
    The third point blow above heading is not clear.
    Thanks

    Umesh - in order to build Answers and Dashboard content you must first setup a Physical model, then a Business model, followed by a Presentation Catalog/Subject Area.
    All these tasks are carried out using the Repository Administration Utility.
    1) Import your physical tables using OCI/ODBC into the physical layer.
    2) Build your model
    3) Deploy
    Then you're ready to start building answers/dashboards.
    Good Luck.

  • Remote database access (db2)

    How can i connect database remotely?
    i can connect it locally but first time trying remotely

    You probably are looking for a class 3 driver for DB2.
    Check which driver you are using and set it right and correct the URL to also include the hostname for the remote DB2 instance.

    Using the above code i am able to get information from 20 database's and if at all there is
    no mysql service running at the given dcsIP, i am getting exception and that is declared as
    no connection.
    But the actual problem is, for one server( identified the IP say XXX.XXX.X.XXX) among these
    20, the application is loosing the control ie not even an exception is thrown. What might be
    the reason.
    For one thing i am sure is not the memory inconsistencies as the application is running fine
    with 25 servers even ( excluding the server at XXX.XXX.X.XXX);
    As this system is running continouly, if i restart the system i am able to get the connection
    for XXX.XXX.X.XXX, but again after 3 to 4 days, not getting any response and the
    application is getting blocked.
    Kindly send me ur suggestions

    Sounds like a network problem to me. Probably nothing to do with JDBC. Have you considered asking your network people to look at the problem?

  • Remote Database connection throught JDBC-ODBC

    Hi everybody
    I've developed an application which connects to a MS Access database throught the JDBC-ODBC bridge; if the database is on my local machine I've no problem at all, but I now need to connect to a database on a remote PC. I've set the DSN entry for the database on the remote computer and try to connect using something like:
    String db_name="jdbc:odbc:remote_pc_name\\\\DSN_db_name";
    Properties db_prop=new Properties();
    db_prop.setProperty("user","username");
    db_prop.setProperty("password","user_password");
    Connection dbconn=DriverManager.getConnection(db_name,db_prop);
    but the ODBC driver gives me the message
    "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] DSN not found and driver not specified.
    I've tried other possible "connection strings" but I always get the same message.
    The software works properly if I connect to the local DB with:
    String db_name="jdbc:odbc:DSN_db_name";
    Any idea how to connect to a remote DB through ODBC?
    Thanks

    No need for a separate thread really is there? its still relevant to the original.

  • Remote database connections

    Hello. Does anyone out there know how i could connect to an oracle 8i database that is residing on a different server to my jsp pages? I indicate the domain name as well as the database name in the url (using jdbc) but i still get a TNS could not resolve service name error. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Have you installed the oracle JDBC driver on your server?
    Try this if you do have the driver installed:
    private static final String driver = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
         private static final String user = "blablabla";
         private static final String pass = "blablabla";
         private static final String dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address for the oracle databse here:1521:database name";

  • Database connectivity requiring oracle wallet, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora

    We have a new datasource that I need to write a report against.  In order to access the db, I have to install an Oracle wallet on my pc that contains a certificate.  I then have an entry in the sqlnet.ora file that references this wallet, and I have an entry in my tnsnames file.  I wrote a report successfully on my pc.  We then have our Business Objects installation on a Sun Solaris machine with Unix.  We installed the wallet, added the sqlnet.ora entry, and the tnsnames.ora entry.  I am able to connect to the db from the unix command prompt by typing sqlplus username@dbname successfully.  However, when I place my Crystal Report in Bus. Obj. I cannot get it to work.  I go to the CMC, select the report, choose Process, Database.  I am entering Use custom database logon info and choosing Oracle as my database driver.  I then enter the tnsnames entry into the server and enter my username and password and check the use use same database logon as when report is run.  I get the error The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect.  I'm guessing the report is not using the certificate in the wallet when it is trying to log on, but I'm not sure.  Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Angie,
    you should install the 32bit Oracle driver on your Solaris machine and adjust the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable (in the profile of the BOBJ installation user) to point to the path of the 32bit libraries of your Oracle driver.
    BOBJ is not a native 64bit software and can therefore work only with the 32bit versions of the database drivers.
