Remote rollovers in dreamweaver?

Dear forum,
I made a remote rollover in image ready which tested fine in
the browser (IE6), however it did not translate when loaded onto my
server. I am certain that all the images are in the remote folder,
not certain wheteher I can remedy this with java script orperhaps
'swap images'. Here is the code:

Problems connecting to remote host via DreamWeaver's FTP

I am having problems connecting to my remote host through DreamWeaver. I can connect via File Zilla Client and could connect before my hard drive crashed. Now w/new hard drive, I recieve an error msg. I tried to create a new site, which connets when I test the connection, but when I go to view the files, a dialog box appears saying "cannont get remote folder info, access denied, etc) I tried selecting different settings and combinats of the following settings:Use firewall, secure ftp, passive ftp. Not sure what else to try at this point. I have WIN XP, Adobe Creative Suite CS3. I would appreciate any help, thanks!

Sigh, it worked for a few days then started acting up again...would connect every other time, now not at all. FileZilla can't connect now either. I have not changed any of the settings - I just get a msg about a "critical error, unable to connect" in FileZilla and an "an ftp error occured, cannot make connection to host. your login or password is incorrect. please check the info and try again" msg in DreamWeaver. I have rebooted my pc, double & triple checked the spelling of my host name, login, and password. The only thing I've done is downloaded a plug-in for Photoshop to covert an image to a .ico. Unless going back and forth b/t DreamWeaver's ftp and FileZilla's would mess it up. I also tried using the alt. host with no success. I can, however, still connect using Yahoo's Web Hosting client....I don't know, sorry to keep bothering you, just very frusterated right now. Been messing with it for two days now....

Can't see Remote data in Dreamweaver CS4

I have a site that I have had for years and recently changed from a real old version of Dreamweaver to Dreamweaver CS4. I had trouble getting my FTP to work so I used an external program to move the files. The files have been uploaded and the site is active on the Internet so I know there are there.
When I use Dreamweaver, the only thing I can see is the "/" that represents the root folder. All the site definitions say that it can connect to my server, it just does not show the files.
Any ideas?

Hi,
here I'll quote a hint from Nancy O. for DW applications:
Try toggling Passive and/or Secure FTP on/off.
Your web host might have changed upload requirements to improve security.
Another thing to check is your Anti-virus and Firewall settings. If they are too restrictive, DW may not have permission to connect to the remote server.

How to access a remote site in dreamweaver

This might seem like a simple question, but i just downloaded DW as a trial, and want to try it out before buying. Now I've done the remote site set up and tested and it says it can connect to my remote site. But I want to now go to the site, log in, and make some changes to the web site pages which are stored there. None of the stuff is stored on my home PC. It's all at the remote site. So how do I edit it? How do I even log in? DW seems intended to work on files on your home PC, and then publish them to a remote site. My problem is it's all ON the remote site.

No, I'm not getting those selections under the file menu. What I've done is go to server, manage servers, and set up a remote server. When I test it it says "dreamweaver connected to your web server succesfully". So I assume that the remote server, at least, is set up properly. I didn't set up a "local site" however. Perhaps that could be it? But those choices are not on the drop-down box, even grayed out. If I click on "open" the box goes to my PC for choices. On the left side it has" My recent documents, desktop, my documents, my network (which doesn't lead anywhere)

Unable to upload files from local computer to remote server (Was: Dreamweaver)

I have lost the connection between the remote location and the local location for files on my computer. Where to I correct this issues, since I cannot upload files from local to remote. How to upload a current file to the remote server in Dreamweaver?

I am trying to transfer an html file from FrontPage to the server via Dreamweaver, but it absolutely refuses to upload. Help!

Nobody can know anything. You are not providing any system information, what version of DW you use, what the remote server actually is. and since this is a DW question, ask in their forum with the proper information included.

I tried sideground.com and gave up.
When ipower.com allow to Remote connect to database with dreamweaver....It was piece of cake....so easy and work well.
Now i'm looking for company who allow to Remote connect to database.
Please if anyone out there know the company allow the remote connection...

OK, Now I'm REALLY confused
I gave up on trying to connect Contribute to my website
through Dreamweaver. I figured I'd go back to Contribute and see if
I could get the connection directly from Contribute. Somehow, It
worked. I think I went to Edit > My Connections > Create...
> and entered my FTP information and it worked! I still cannot
connect through DW however.
So far, this has allowed me to continue with setting up this
site with Contribute. I'm still really confused as to what the
problem is with Dreamweaver and Contribute working together.
I'm going to go back and make sure that I can repeat whatever
I did to get it working. The only thing worse than not being able
to get something to work is stumbling upon the solution and not
knowing how you did it

I have updated my webpage - its updated on my remote server "using dreamweaver" and the date has changed, but when i go online to check nothing has changed.

all is connected, dates changed in the remote server, i have cleared my history so that its not just going to its memory but actually looking for the page.
does anyone have any ideas?

It's often called a Disjointed Rollover.
You can see from View Source in a browser that the example in the link is actually toggling the CSS class in the sidebar from display:block (visible) to display:none (hidden)

Can you link remote rollovers to images in an iFrame?

I have a page called Jewelry in Dreamweaver with an iFrame on it that takes up half the right hand side of the page. The iFrame links to a page with all my thumbnail images. On the left hand side of my Jewelry page I want to have a larger version of the thumbnails pop up when someone mouses over an image in the iframe - How can I do that (I have DW CS4) A tutorial would be great!

I have no idea if that can be done - only because I've never tried it because I would never create a page like that :-)
Why not have the thumbnails on the actual page and use something like Lightbox to bring up the bigger picture....it's a more practical and modern way to do this type of gallery page.

Further assistance on bringing in a remote site to Dreamweaver!

I have tried to do this several times now with out luck. I have the necessary information for the server (username, password, ect) I test the connection
and it works. I created a folder on my desktop to be a root folder. I try the "Get" button. I have a few questions:
1.) I am not sure exactly which files I need to pull from my ftp in order to edit. Especially if I am looking to just edit one section on one page of my website.
2.) I don't know if the "Get" button is a proper way to do this, I watched many tutorials now and several said this would work but it hasen't.
Basically, once I get folders into Dreamweaver I can't find the Index (or homepage) to edit it. And even when I do find an html file that says this it shows up looking nothing like the actual page....
3.) Is it supposed to look like this? (I tried copying the entire site into Dreamweaver just to be sure CSS and all would be there as well and that not only didn't work but the file was huge and crashed Dreamweaver...)

It's a complicated situation. But of course it is not something I want to ruin as well and obviously not something I know that well.
Must I change this from the server than.
I was able to connect and bring this into Dreamweaver. It is an Index.php file. I am adding a google adwords code to it. I am just curious because I seemed to have made progress. Thank you for the help.

How do I download my website from remote site to Dreamweaver

My server saved a copy of my website( built on a PC in CS3) from a year ago. I have a new Mac with CS5 now. How do I get the website beck onto my computer and functional? How can I do it and what questions should I be asking about how to do this?

Remote Rollovers in GL CS

Above image shows the navigation images for the site, the 5 images on right side and the single image above them. I have both "on" and "off" images for the single image. Link 1 will be the "Home" and the link 1 "on" image will be shown above. If mouse is entered into links 2, 3, 4, or 5 the corresponding "off" image will be seen and when mouse exit will return to original active page "on" image. When mouse is clicked on any of the links, linked page will display corresponding "on" image above. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to immerse yourself in actions and head actions. Read about Using Actions and the Set Image URL action in the GoLive Help.
For the top image you need six images all with the same dimensions (one for each of the links plus your default image when no links are active). I'll call them a.jpg, b.jpg etc and default.jpg.
Put the image on the page which you want to be the "default" image seen when the page is loaded. Go to the Inspector and give the image a Name/ID attribute using the drop-down. I'll call mine "rollimage" (don't use spaces in the name).
Select the first link icon and in the Inspector set the link to this symbol - #
Open the action palette and choose Mouse Enter. Add a Set Image URL action. From the dropdown list choose the image which will be changed - (rollimage). Then link to the image which should be shown for icon1 (a.jpg). This makes the named image (rollimage) change to the new image (a.jpg) when the mouse enters the area of the link icon.
Now select Mouse Exit and add a Set Image URL action for "rollimage" and link it to the default image (default.jpg) (the one which should be shown when no links are active). This makes the rollimage change back to the default image.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the remaining link icons using the other images.
On the other pages, just change the default image to the one applicable for that page. Adjust the actions so the Mouse Exit action changes the image to the correct default image.

Dw cs5 with existing wordpress site hosted on yahoo need help connecting to existing remote database

I am having trouble establishing a database connection. I can connect with test databases but am having trouble using dreamweaver wtih my existing wordpress website. Am I able to use dreamweaver to edit and live view my changes before uploading the changed files to my live site? Am I able to access my existing wordpress database with dreaweaver? I have imported it to my testing server/database but still seem to be having trouble establishing a connection with it (think maybe my folder hierarchy might be off).
macintosh HD/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/nwm/wp/index.php
"nwm" is the name of the folder that I have copied all of my site files to and the folder I have dreamweaver pointing to. "wp" is what I have all of the wordpress files in (the ones I copied from my yahoo server - including all my current theme files etc.)
I am trying to put the info into the mysql connection dialog box:
Connection Name: Testing (i am assuming this name is for my benefit only and doesn't actually matter)
MySQL Server: mysql
User Name: *****
Password: *****
Database: wp
and am getting this message
MySQL Error#: 2013
Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error 61
did some google seaches of the error. Tried turning off the firewall, and the advance tab allow mysql incoming (there were 2 one was allow one was not allow. I changed both to allow)
Cant really find anything on yahoo to help me out. Looked in phpmyadmin database named wp: wp_users to get the username and password (which due to previous look for help - I think the password was encrypted cuz it looked like a bunch of mumbo jumbo and am fairly certain I know the correct password).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I spent $50 on live chat last night trying to resolve the issue only to find out at the end that the guy really didn't understand my problem and doesn't have dreamweaver. I have also watched countless videos on Lynda.com and have been thru forum after forum. While this problem is only a couple weeks old since I just got CS5. I have been having trouble making any headway learning php since I cant seem to make it past the set up parts. I have done the php / mysql essential training on lynda.com with relative success except that I really dont want to work with any more exercise files so I didn't go on to the beyond the basics. I recently went thru most of the Dreamweaver CS5 and Wordpress 3. Also did the first 4 chapters of Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP and MySQL. I need to start integrating things into my live sites. I am also trying to work my way thru the learning php, mysql, javascript book by o'reily media by robin nixon (as fun as reading a math text book) can't get thru it since I can't relate any of it to my current sites/needs

Installed MAMP to specification on all 20 tutorials I have tried including lynda.com
Tested the testing server and is working
Just installed dreamweaver cs5
have been using wordpress online to create and edit posts (recently upgraded to 3.? whatever the latest update was online which I believe update the files on my yahoo server?)
Have also installed wordpress on my computer (several times thru each tutorial trying to get this right.)
Am I expecting the impossible?

If wordpress controls it's own connection why am I unable to use the live view. I have synced the remote site to my local computer so all the files should be just as they are online with the exception of the DB which contains most of the content.
I have done all of those steps. I have even exported the database from inside internet phpmyadmin and imported into computer phpmyadmin. When I hit live view I get one of couple of errors.
1. "One is that the dynamic related files could not be displayed due to an internal server error"
At some point I was able to view some sample files inside dreamweaver. But I would like to be able to view my real site files. I was able to "connect" to the local databases (not the copy of my real one - I think that maybe that was because it is somehow nested inside another db an am going try to reimport to new location). And then I changed the host/username/password trying to deal with the internal server error. Now instead I get the cannot connect to the database Error 2016 or whatever from the origianl post. Also, I am using yahoo if that matters and all I can find about what their server name is: mysql - is that correct?
I have been thru this so many times with so many different tutorials I am losing track of what is what.
2. Can I access my remote database within dreamweaver? I do not want to create dummy files (seems to be a waste of time). And while if it had worked exporting/importing a duplicate on to my computer would have satisfied me for a little while it also seems some what counter productive. Since every post and page is different if I were doing a daily updates etc how would I be able to change the formating or design of them if I can't access the remote files. Would I re- import everytime I want to work on it to get current database?
I am trying to be clear. I listed all the specs I could think as listed in your "how to get help fast post" (yes I read that at least twice too) of all of the steps and possible reasons for my problems. I also thought that the forum was on a seperate site so I didn't think it would count as a duplicate. I am frustrated to tears and am feeling incredibly stupid that after all this time and all these tutorials yes you are right I obviously am not understanding what is going on which is why I am on this forum.

External/Remote Images no longer appear in Design View!

First post here.
Suddenly external/remote images in Dreamweaver CS3 no longer appear when viewed in Design View.
All I get now is grey boxes!
I have tried toggling 'Display External Files' on and off, made sure Cache is off (tried it with on too) and nothing seems to make a difference.
If anyone could help please, it's so annoying

Windows XP.
I'm an experienced web designer, 10+ years so you will have to trust me my code is fine.
It just shows the grey boxes in place of where the images should be.
