    Hello,
    Is there any way to move all the file from one location to another and remove the datepart from filename.
    for eg:- if file name is abc_20150411.xls change to abc.xls. if file name does not contain date part then ignore it.
    Can any one suggest if its possible.
    Thank You

    Hi ,
    I have created package based on your question and decribed in detail in below post:-

  • Regex: Remove Date from File Names Sitewide

    I'm trying to avoid  hundreds of 301 redirects across my site. I have two kinds of links that need a regex search string which will simply remove numbers that precede text within html files.
    The existing .html files are named with text only (e.g., name.html), whereas the .jpg files have the date and text (e.g., 130415name.jpg). But the new html engine I am using creates files named like the .jpg files (e.g., 130415name.html).
    I can strip the numbers out of file names in Name Munger (Strip Characters > Characters: 0123456789).
    Now I need a regex search string that will strip the same characters within the html files.
    The changes would look like this:
    1.
    Before:
    <ul>
    <li class="previous"> <a class="paginationLinks detailText" href="../content/090914name.html">Previous</a> </li>
    <li class="index"> <a href="../index_4.html" class="detailLinks detailText">Index</a> </li>
    <li class="next"> <a class="paginationLinks detailText" href="../content/090125name.html">Next</a> </li>
    </ul>
    After:
    <ul>
    <li class="previous"> <a class="paginationLinks detailText" href="../content/name.html">Previous</a> </li>
    <li class="index"> <a href="../index_4.html" class="detailLinks detailText">Index</a> </li>
    <li class="next"> <a class="paginationLinks detailText" href="../content/name.html">Next</a> </li>
    </ul>
    2.
    Before:
    onclick="window.location.href='content/020922name.html'"
    After:
    onclick="window.location.href='content/name.html'"
    What is the regex search string for these examples (any numbers preceding any letters preceding .html)?

    Set the Search option to Source Code
    In the Find field:
    (content/)\d{6}(\w+\.html)
    In the Replace field:
    $1$2
    Select the "Use regular expression" checkbox.

  • [solved]remove backslashes from file names?

    Hi!
    I have a lot of files that contain backslashes in file name, spread over many many folders.
    How do I remove that character from all file names? The approaches / scripts / programs I usually work with can't handle the invalid file names (e.g. loose the '\' and then 'cant stat()' -.-").
    Thanks!
    edit: Argh... now I've got copies of half of the files without the "\" in the same folders, because copying did work on most but deleting only on some... also multiple \\\ because I messed up one sed line. and "echo" failed to warn me about the result, just dropping a few \ while mv didn't... or something. So confused.

    done < <(find /full/path/to/dir -depth -name '*\\*' -print0)
    Thanks, that did it!
    Don't know what exactly I've been doing wrong, but it seems not to happen any more since I try to do stuff with "while, read, ${}"  instead of "for, $(), echo, sed"
    pulce wrote:Not sure that's the point, but backslash is an escape
    Yes, I know, that was the problem. That's why those stupid things always keep either disappearing or multiplying - I guess I just suck at keeping track of what program handles them which way and depending on what.

  • Remove background picture file name from my macbook pro

    I have a 17" macbook pro with MAC OS 10.7.5 and was trying to access the desktop pictures to copy the images.  I entered a command that I thought would reveal the hidden picture folder and instead my dispaly now not only shows the image but also its file name across the middle of the screen  (e.g. Library/Desktop/Images/Andromeda Galaxy.JPG).  It doesn't matter if I select another image, the new path name displays right along with the new image.  I don't recall the command I entered but can someone help me undo this?  Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

    It's actully the path name I need to delete whichs show now in both my desktop and my dashboard.  The history of my terminal commands in reverse chronological order is as follows:
    Library/Desktop/Pictures
    open/ Library
    admin$ defaults write com.apple.dock desktop-picture-show-debug-text -bool TRUE;killall Dock
    Thanks so much!

  • Adobe  8.x Pro Removing Part of File Name

    As SOP, I name files by what they are preceded by the date. For example, a letter from John today would be "2008 0519 Ltr from John". When combining files, Adobe is dropping the numbers and booking the file as "Ltr from John". Of course, that is messing up the chronological order of my files. Is there a way to grab the entire file name?
    Many thanks.

    Spaces and other non-standard characters in file names is one of the results of the long file names that MS introduced. The names can be useful at times, but special characters and spaces should be avoided. As Geo indicated, spaces are commonly represented by an underscore. It is interesting that many web sites have also fallen prey to the MS names with spaces. Other browsers (not IE) try to replace such spaces with %20 for use. MS tends to ignore industry standards and causes a lot of problems as a result.
    This is all likely part of your problem. Good luck in resolving it. Geo's advice it probably about as sound as you will get.

    But other packages copy properly to the USB storage device. If I remove : from the file names of packages mentioned above they copy properly. Is this because of the FAT32 file system on my USB disk?
    The above mentioned packages copy properly to my home directory which is ext4 file system.
    Any suggestions to correct this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anand

    rsamurti, you asked the moderators to do this:
    Please remove : from package file names due to the problems reported in this post. Such packages cannot be copied to FAT32 file systems.
    This is up to you. Just "Edit" the post by yourself and mark this section deleted. (See the BBCode help for this.)
    And please leave an according comment stating something like the quote above there. It would be valuable information.

    Framemaker uses <$filename> for short file name, can we edit this to change appearance? We do not want the short file name of long filename to include the .fm extension can this be removed or modified to make this happen? In compiling our books it would be helpful to not have this extension appear as it then requires us to create extra files without them.

    Can we remove timestamp which is added infront of the file name of datafile which was imported succesfully , in archive folder, i have a requriment to move file from archive folder  to another folder, but programmer is finding diffficulty in moving the file which has time stamp, he can move file with date stamp, but not able to move file which has time stamp, is there is any option in MDIS.Ini file or anywhere in import manager or console to modify the file names , or remove timestamp when file is moved in archive folder.
    does anyone faced similar issue, require help.........

    Hi,
    Moving file from Ready directory to Archive directory is MDM internal process and I strongly feel it is not possible to control the naming convention of File to be placed in Archive directory.
    But you can explain what problem you developer is facing while moving file from Archive directory to some other directory..then we can think about solution to acheive this. Also on which operating system you MDM server is installed.

    Typical file name:

    var newFileName = this.documentFileName.substring(0,6);

    You were right......but a quick question. Why does this work without it? Thanks again!!!

  • How to remove ":"  in file name while using Variable substution

    Hi ALL
    I am using  file adapter and I what to create file name dynamically by acesssing PO number and time stamp from the payload using variable substution.
    But the problem is I am getting ":" in time stamp field value and it is not acceptable for file name .
    So could you please tell me a way that I can remove this ":" from that particular field value and create the file name dynamically.
    Note 1)Add Time stamp option will not help me as we require a time stamp of particular zone.
    2) Dynamic Configuration code is also not use full as I am using 1:n file creation

    does the time stamp with the ":" a part of your output file?
    else use a replaceAll function in your mapping and replace the : with empty string then use the value in the variable substitution
    Another option is use the normal BPM for 1: N message flow. The use a simple java mapping that will introduce a dynamic configuration and you can create the file name as you want. the java mapping will be used in the flow of messages from BPM to target system.

        exportSettings = {

            LR_tokens = "{{custom_token}}",
            LR_tokenCustomString = LrPathUtils.removeExtension( photo:getFormattedMetadata( 'fileName' ) ):gsub( "[ %c]", "" ) -- remove spaces and control characters

    If I use an app to remove duplicate pix does the app  read content  or only  the file name such as IMG. I have some 2500 pix  and the thought of trawling thru  them  toremove duplicates is mind numbing.
    If the apps  read the content then I am ok about that  but if they  only read the  file name ... they maybe  deleting stuff that  isnt really a duplicate

    You have to contact with the developer of the application. We do not know which app you are referring to and we do not know how that application works, but all apps of that type are supposed to delete duplicate files with the same format (like IMG, JPG...)
