Removing a movie clip from the stage - need help

I am learning AS3 after using AS2 for a long time.  I'm making progress but need help.  I have a simple Flash website with the sections laid out the timeline with labels.  In one section called Media, I have a movie instance of a Flash movie gallery player.  It loads just fine but when I leave that section to go to another, the sound of the video is still playing.  Visually it's not seen but the sound still plays.  I suspect I need to put some sort of remove commamnd in the script but I'm having trouble getting the right result.
I appreciate any help I can get with this.
Thanks!

  • How to effectively remove a loaded SWF from the stage?

    I can not figure out a proper coding to remove a loded SWF from the stage.
    Here is my set up.
    I have a layout segmented into labeled section. In the section labeled "products" I have a layout consisting of product images acting as buttons which bring a user to another labeled section "prdctsPopUps"
    In the "prdctsPopUps" section I have placed an instance of LoaderMax placed into an mc container. Placing LoaderMax into an mc container automatically resolved an issue of clearing loaded SWFs from stage when I come back to "products" section.
    I specified the variable in the "products" section with the following set up:
    var sourceVar_ProductsPopUps:String;
    function onClickSumix1PopUp(event:MouseEvent):void {
                        sourceVar_ProductsPopUps="prdcts_popups/sumix1-popup_tl.swf";
                        gotoAndPlay("prdctsPopUps");
    So each button has its own "....swf" URL and they all open fine and I can come back to "products" section without any issues.
    However inside the swf (which loads through LoaderMax which is placed into an mc) there are other buttons which bring a user to labeled section "xyz". Which also functions properly. It opens as it is supposed to be and without any previously loaded "...swf" on the stage.
    At the labeled section "xyz" there is a limited set of buttons repeating from section "products" which has to bring a user back to the same set up in the "prdctsPopUps" labeled section and open a corresponding "...swf" .
    However only the last opened "...swf" will appear in that section. Effectively the one which was originally opened from the "prdctsPopUps" section and not the one which was supposed to be opened from the "xyz" section.
    I can not understand why it would work from one labeled section and not from another. I can not figure out on which section which code/function needed to be placed.
    Here is the set up from a button from the "xyz" section whcih supposed to bring a user to the same "prdctsPopUps" section but to load a different "...swf"
    var sourceVar_ProductsPopUps_fromXYZ:String;
    function onClick_floralytePopUp_fromXYZ(event:MouseEvent) :void {
                        sourceVar_ProductsPopUps_fromXYZ="prdcts_popups/floralyte-popup_tl.swf";
                        gotoAndPlay("prdctsPopUps");
    Here is the code set up for the LoaderMax from the "prdctsPopUps" section:
    var loaderProductPopUps:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader(sourceVar_ProductsPopUps,
                                                                                                        estimatedBytes:5000,
                                                                                                        container:holderMovieClip,
                                                                                                        onProgress:progressHandler,
                                                                                                        onComplete:completeHandler,
                                                                                                        centerRegistration:true,
                                                                                                        alpha:1,
                                                                                                        scaleMode:"none",
                                                                                                        width:540,
                                                                                                        height:730,
                                                                                                        crop:true,
                                                                                                        autoPlay:false
    function progressHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              progressBarPopUp_mc.gradientbarPopUp_mc.scaleX = loaderProductPopUps.progress;
    function completeHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              var loadedImage:ContentDisplay = event.target.content;
              TweenMax.to(progressBarPopUp_mc, 1.5, {alpha:0, scaleX:0.25, scaleY:0.25});
    loaderProductPopUps.load();
    Is there something which needs to be imported, or specific function needs to be specified in a specific labeled section?

    actually, i think you'll need to use something like:
    var loaderProductPopUps:SWFLoader;
    if ((loaderProductPopUps){
    if(loaderProductPopUps.content)){
       loaderProductPopUps.unload();
    loaderProductPopUps= new SWFLoader(sourceVar_ProductsPopUps, //the value of sourceVar_ProductsPopUps allows to load mulitple SWFs from the products page.
                                                                                                         estimatedBytes:5000 ,
                                                                                                         container:holderMov ieClip,// more convinient and easier to manage if to place the LoaderMax into an empty mc (holderMovieClip)
                                                                                                                                                                         // if not will work as well. Then the line container:holderMovieClip, has to be replaced with container:this,
                                                                                                                                                                         // can be any size, can not be scaled as it distorts the content
                                                                                                         onProgress:progress Handler,
                                                                                                         onComplete:complete Handler,
                                                                                                         centerRegistration: true,
                                                                                                         //x:-260, y:-320, //no need for this is if used: centerRegistration:true,
                                                                                                         alpha:1,
                                                                                                         scaleMode:"none",
                                                                                                         //scaleX:0, scaleY:0,
                                                                                                         //vAlign:"top",
                                                                                                         width:540,
                                                                                                         height:730,//scales proportionally but I need to cut off the edges
                                                                                                         crop:true,
                                                                                                         autoPlay:false
    function progressHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              progressBarPopUp_mc.gradientbarPopUp_mc.scaleX = loaderProductPopUps.progress;
    function completeHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              var loadedImage:ContentDisplay = event.target.content;
              //TweenMax.to(loadedImage, 1.5, {alpha:1, scaleX:1, scaleY:1});//only need this line if corresponding values are changed in SWF loader constructor
              TweenMax.to(progressBarPopUp_mc, 1.5, {alpha:0, scaleX:0.25, scaleY:0.25});
    loaderProductPopUps.load();

  • Dynamically adding multiple instances of a movie clip to the stage with one button

    hello,
    I was wondering if there was a way to add several instances
    of the same movie clip to the stage dynamically utilizing one
    button.
    I can do one with the following code placed on the button...
    on (release) {
    attachMovie ("filledCircle", "filled1", 5);
    filled1._x = 370;
    filled1._y = 225;
    But I want the user to be able to hit the button again and
    get yet another instance of "filledCircle" on the stage.
    I also want the user to be able to drag these instances
    around...
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks,
    Muhl

    Muhl,
    > I was wondering if there was a way to add several
    > instances of the same movie clip to the stage
    > dynamically utilizing one button.
    Sure thing.
    > I can do one with the following code placed on the
    > button...
    >
    > on (release) {
    > attachMovie ("filledCircle", "filled1", 5);
    > filled1._x = 370;
    > filled1._y = 225;
    > }
    Gotcha.
    > But I want the user to be able to hit the button again
    > and get yet another instance of "filledCircle" on the
    > stage.
    You're in luck, because this isn't very hard to do. The main
    thing to
    keep in mind is that each instance must have A) its own
    unique instance name
    and B) its own unique depth. In your example, the instance
    name is filled1
    and the depth is 5. The next clip's instance name should be
    filled2 at a
    depth of 6. Then filled3, depth 7, and so on. You can use a
    single
    variable to handle the incrementation.
    // code in a frame
    var counter:Number = 1;
    // code on your button
    on (release) {
    attachMovie ("filledCircle", "filled" + counter, counter +
    4);
    With me so far? The variable counter contains the numeric
    value 1. The
    second parameter of attachMovie() is provided with a
    concatenation of
    "filled" + 1, which makes "filled1". The third parameter is
    provided with
    the sum of counter plus 4, which makes 5. Obviously, we need
    a bit more.
    The button must, in addition, increment the value of counter.
    The ++
    operator handles this perfectly.
    on (release) {
    attachMovie ("filledCircle", "filled" + counter, counter +
    4);
    counter++;
    Now, it seems you also want to position the attached movie
    clip to (370,
    225). Are they call supposed to go to the same place? If so,
    you may use a
    second variable to hold a reference to the newly attached
    clip. Look up
    MovieClip.attachMovie(), and you'll see that the method
    returns the exact
    reference you need.
    // code in a frame
    var counter:Number = 1;
    var mc:MovieClip;
    // code on your button
    on (release) {
    mc = attachMovie ("filledCircle", "filled" + counter,
    counter + 4);
    counter++;
    mc._x = 370;
    mc._y = 225;
    Make sense?
    > I also want the user to be able to drag these instances
    > around...
    Then you need to handle a few events. You're dealing with
    movie clips
    here, so your best bet is to study up on the MovieClip class,
    which defines
    all movie clips. (Note, also, that the TextField class
    defines all input
    and dynamic text fields; the Sound class defines all sounds,
    etc. This is a
    very handy arrangement of the ActionScript 2.0 Language
    Reference.)
    // code in a frame
    var counter:Number = 1;
    var mc:MovieClip;
    // code on your button
    on (release) {
    mc = attachMovie ("filledCircle", "filled" + counter,
    counter + 4);
    counter++;
    mc._x = 370;
    mc._y = 225;
    mc.onPress = function() {
    this.startDrag();
    mc.onRelease = function() {
    this.stopDrag();
    Easy as that. You're simply assigning a function literal to
    the event
    of each new MovieClip instance as you create it. Take a look
    and you'll see
    each of these class members available to you -- that is, to
    all movie clips.
    MovieClip.onPress, MovieClip.startDrag(), MovieClip._x, etc.
    Wherever it shows the term MovieClip in the Language
    Reference, just
    replace that with the instance name of your clip -- or a
    reference to that
    clip (which even includes the global "this" property).

  • I need to remove a library item from the stage

    Right now I have a button that brings a library symbol to the stage. Ideally, I want to be able to click on the symbol itself to make itself from the stage. Can anyone help me with this?

    for example:
    var sym:WhateverClass=new WhateverClass();
    sym.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickF);
    function clickF(e:MouseEvent):void{
    e.currentTarget.parent.removeChild(e.currentTarget);

  • How to remove a dynamic symbol from the stage?

    I'm loading dynamically copies of a Library symbol with a button click. Question is, when I move around in the timeline, I don't want to see the symbols at certain points. Can I loop through the json file and remove each symbol from the stage? Or is there a better way of accomplishing this?
    Being new to Edge Animate, I'm also unsure as to the names of the symbols as they are placed on the stage. If I use the browser's developer tools, I can see that the divs are named Stage_90, Stage_91, Stage_92 etc. However doing something like the following does not seem to work:
    sym.$("Stage_90").hide();
    I appreciate the help. Thanks again.

    I got it. It should be:
    $("#region1").remove();
    // # was missing.
    I actually added that to time 0 on the main timeline so when I got back there it removes the image.
    It's not working from the symbol yet but I guess I should eventually get it working from there instead.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Movie Clips vs the Stage help me out plz

    Before i start i currently am taking a class on flash and i
    dont think we have gone terribly in depth.
    I have 2 sets of Code one in a Movie Clip and another on the
    Stage.
    the issue i have is neither one can see variables from the
    other. is there some special syntax or notation i need to pass the
    variables
    I cant see the Current Unit in the Button

    Syntactically your code is just fine. I didn’t receive
    any errors when I checked it. However I would rearrange some things
    in it. The 2 eventhandlers in the onEnterFrame function, I would
    pull these out and put them outside of the onEnterFrame function
    but on the same frame.
    “the issue i have is neither one can see variables from
    the other. is there some special syntax or notation i need to pass
    the variables”
    Inside that mc, the code that you have below “//Code in
    Button”, it is typically recommended that you don’t
    reference other movieclips by using ‘_levelX’. Use a
    relative path, such as ‘this._parent” or
    “this._parent._parent” depending on how many movieclips
    are nested into it. Also note, when you reference a movieclip from
    inside an eventHandler (onPress, onRelease, onEnterFrame, etc.) you
    are already within an object. So to reference something on the same
    tier you should use ‘this._parent’. Once you find the
    correct tier by using the code I mentioned in the last sentence,
    you then need to attach the instance name of the movieclip you are
    trying to access (that is if you are trying to access a movieclip).
    For an example, ‘this._parent.currentguy’.
    I hope this helps, I understand it may be hard to grasp
    however give it a shot and post back.

  • Deadline: 22 May 08H00 Help ME Please Scrolling a movie clip from the Centre

    Hi
    It has been a while since I have been here I am in need for
    some serious help, I am so frustrated.
    What I want to do is pretty simple, I am building a DJ
    website and the navigation is a pitch controller, similar to what
    they have on a mixing board anyway, when you drag the pitch
    controller I need the movie clip symbol to scroll either up and
    down, so technically the pitch controller will have to start from
    the center, but I have no idea what I am doing.
    I have been going through tutorials for 15 hours but all they
    show you is how to create a normal scroller that starts at the top
    and srolls down. I am in desprite need as I have a deadline to meet
    for tomorrow morning. HELP

    ok this is the code I got from a tutorial that i was woking
    from, but I dont really understand it in detail what I do know is I
    dont need the arror buttons in this code becuase all I need is a
    the scroller.
    scrolling = function () {
    var scrollHeight:Number = scrollTrack._height;
    var contentHeight:Number = contentMain._height;
    var scrollFaceHeight:Number = scrollFace._height;
    var maskHeight:Number = maskedView._height;
    var initPosition:Number = scrollFace._y=scrollTrack._y;
    var initContentPos:Number = contentMain._y;
    var finalContentPos:Number =
    maskHeight-contentHeight+initContentPos;
    var left:Number = scrollTrack._x;
    var top:Number = scrollTrack._y;
    var right:Number = scrollTrack._x;
    var bottom:Number =
    scrollTrack._height-scrollFaceHeight+scrollTrack._y;
    var dy:Number = 0;
    var speed:Number = 10;
    var moveVal:Number =
    (contentHeight-maskHeight)/(scrollHeight-scrollFaceHeight);
    scrollFace.onPress = function() {
    var currPos:Number = this._y;
    startDrag(this, false, left, top, right, bottom);
    this.onMouseMove = function() {

  • Removing a Video Stream From The Stage

    what I have:
    main.swf 1 frame
    btns load various external.swfs
    I have 3
    one swf (commercial.swf)has a slideshow inside using the SlideShowPro component Not the flv player
    problem: stream remains after swf is swapped out with new.
    AS code  main timeline
    var Xpos:Number = 0;
    var Ypos:Number = 0;
    var swf:MovieClip;
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swfs/home.swf");
    loader.load(defaultSWF);
    loader.x = Xpos;
    loader.y = Ypos;
    addChild(loader);
    // Btns Universal function
    function btnClick(event:MouseEvent):void {

    // Btn listeners
    home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnClick);
    bio.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnClick);
    commercial.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnClick);
    NOW
    home and bio.swf's have _mc's inside
    the commercial.swf has the slideshow pro component inside
    once commercial.swf is on stage after another btn is clicked the audio remains.
    slide show pro is being used not an .flvPlayer
    I need to know where the code to stop the stream goes in the main.swf or the swf with the slideshow component?

    I did get somewhere, I have a few different main.swfs I used as I was experimenting. I have one that uses  UI loaders to load all the static (no videos inside) swfs to the main timeline those work fine
    Also in that main.swf I have one loader being called by the loader class which also works. But I still had the stream remaining problem. I was able to add another set of event listeners that call the "unload and stop" method on the same buttons for my main navigation that call the gotoandstops to frames and they now unload the commercial.swf (which is the only swf I have using the slideshow pro component AND stop the stream as well.
    Here's what I have
    in main.swf
    gotoAndStop("home");
    btn_home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btn_home_click);
    function btn_home_click(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        gotoAndPlay("home")
    btn_bio.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btn_bio_click);
    function btn_bio_click(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        gotoAndPlay("bio")
    btn_commercial.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btn_commercial_click);
    function btn_commercial_click(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        gotoAndStop(12)
    // event listeners for unloads
    btn_home.addEventListener("click",afterClick);
    btn_bio.addEventListener("click",afterClick);
    function afterClick(e:MouseEvent):void {
        ldr.unloadAndStop();
    as layer of frame 12 only loader class
    var ldr:Loader = new Loader();
    var url:String = "commercial.swf";
    var urlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
    ldr.load(urlReq);
    addChild(ldr);
    this method will unload and stop commercial.swf when the home_btn or bio_btn buttons are clickedI did not try this using the UI Loader
    So I now will either need to use just the loader class to call all the swfs (like a variable) what I had used before and have the afterclick function in the home and bio in all the buttons (which I will add later)
    I hope this helps as there has to be a solution.
    thanks again for all your help by the way.

  • How do I recerence Movie Clips on the Main Timeline from inside a class?

    Hey everyone, this might be a stupid question but I thought
    I'd ask cause it's making me nuts. I'm all of 2 days into AS3
    (coming from not using Flash at all in YEARS) so feel free to
    consider me ignorant. I do have plenty of application development
    experience in other areas though.
    I can't seem to create a class that can reference an instance
    of a movie clip on my main timeline. I'd post code of what I've
    tried but I've gone through so many desperate edits & wild
    guesses that it was just garbled junk before I deleted it all.
    Basically here's how I figured Flash could work, though maybe
    it doesn't work this way at all.
    I'm assuming that with AS 3 being so big on being a true
    object oriented environment, I wouldn't need to mix my code and
    interface together. Preferably I'd be using the Flash authoring
    tools just to design my interface. Create a button... place it
    somewhere... give it an instance name. Roughly the equivilant of
    Apple's InterfaceBuilder for those of you that might be familiar
    with Cocoa development. I can see maybe having to put a few lines
    of ActionScript onto frame 1 (though really I'm hoping Flash would
    have a better method of kicking off the application at this point
    that using code tied to frames) to load my classes & such, but
    after that I'd like all of my code to be held in external class
    files.
    So maybe I've got:
    Interface.fla - My interface
    Button_1
    Button_2
    TextField_1
    Main.as - My main controller class using to handle all of my
    applications behavior
    SomeClass.as - Some helper Class
    SomeOtherClass.as - Some helper Class
    Main.as would have instructions in its initialization method
    to go ahead & attach events to buttons & initialize
    anything else that needs to happen when the application starts.
    From there on it would all be objects communicating back &
    forth. Button_1 would get clicked with would fire
    Main.someMethod(). Main.someMethod() would then do it's thing and
    set the value of TextField_1. All very clean & code is very
    separated from interface.
    Unfortunately I can't for the life of me figure out how AS3
    classes reference each other like that. There doesn't seem to be
    any kind of a global 'root' or '_root' I can use to locate any
    movie clips on the stage. I've searched the help & the web for
    any kind of simple tutorial but to no avail. My job has tasked me
    with building a flash app for a project but I'd really rather not
    have a tone of ActionScript just shoved into frame 1. That just
    seems... ugh! (::shudder::)
    Can someone maybe point me in the right direction here? I'm
    really willing to do my homework but I can't seem to locate the
    info I need to get started. Also, is there an ActionScript IRC
    channel or something maybe?
    Thanks,
    Cliff

    I worked with the problem last night and the solution I
    started coming to involved creating my own custom document class
    based off which extends MovieClip. My thought is that way I have
    access to the initialization routine of the timeline itself and
    that all of the elements on the main timeline should be
    "properties" of my custom class.
    Is this correct? Is there a down side to doing this & if
    so what is it & why?
    Also, just for my reference, the last time I did anything
    with ActionScript I think I was using '_root' to target the main
    timeline. WHat are the global variable names in AS 3? Is it just
    'root' & 'stage' or 'Root' & 'Stage' or what?

  • Trouble Copying and pasting a movie clip from another flash scene

    Hello,
    I have been trying to copy a movie clip from the library of one flash and paste it into the library of another.  But when I do this, it always gives me, "One or more library items already exist in the document.
    I have tried finding and renaming those items, renaming the existing movie clip, and even changing it into a graphic instead.  Still it always replaces these certain movie clips in my main flash file.
    I even tried the following:
    Creating a new movie clip in the new file.  Then going into the movie clip of the other file I wish to copy over, and trying to copy its frames and put it into the new movie clip i created in the main file.  Even then, it says I'm replacing library items!
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks

    The easiest way to be sure you are renaming everything is to probably to copy the movieclip into a new empty file's library and then rename each symbol in there.  Unless I am missing something, when you do that, each isolatable symbol inside that movieclip will appear as a separate symbol in the library, making it easier to be sure you have renamed them all.

  • Importing movie clips from internet

    I am trying to import some movie clips from the internet. Any suggestions? I tried saving on MAC HD and adding to iSquint, but when I import into iMovie, there isn't anything there. I have the same problem when I try to import clips from a movie (not video, a real movie) I have saved in iTunes. Any suggestions there?

    Try this great free, open source software.
    You can get it from the site or from Apple downloads.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    Run MPEG Streaqmclip.
    Click File > Open URL.
    Copy/Paste the URL of the video into the box.
    Click on File > Export to QuickTime.
    Use 'Apple Intermediate Codec'.
    Convert the movie and save to a folder on your desktop.
    Open iMovie and click File > Import Movies...
    Navigate to the folder.
    Create a new event, name it and import.

  • HT2518 I am trying to move across & view my home movie clips from my PC to Mac, but I can't view them.  What do I need to have installed on the MAC to view such files? (Originally put onto the MAC from a Canon video camera)

    I am trying to move across & view my home movie clips from my old PC to my new Mac but I am unsure what software I need to view them.  They are from a Canon video camera originally.  Please advise how this is done!

    Do they have a file extension?
    How about anything on the camera which might indicate what it is, like AVCHD?

  • TypeError: Error #1006 - Removing MovieClip from the stage

    I have a movie clip that is called to the stage and once the movieclip is finished it calls a function that removes it from the stage. The code works but I get an error message about 4 seconds after the movie clip ends.
    Here’s the error message:
    TypeError: Error #1006: exitWordMicroscopic is not a function.
                    at ASvocabulary_microscopic/frame110()[ASvocabulary_microscopic::frame110:1]
    Here’s the stage code:
    //************************Removes the movieclip from the stage and enables the button.*************************
    function exitWordMicroscopic():void
                    bnt_vocab_microscopic.mouseEnabled = true;
                    removeChild(word_Microscopic);
    //******************************Stage buttons**************************************
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goButtonsHomeRead_1);
    function goButtonsHomeRead_1(event:MouseEvent):void
                    //Vocabulary buttons
                    if (event.target == bnt_vocab_microscopic)
                                    bnt_vocab_microscopic.mouseEnabled = false;
                                    SoundMixer.stopAll();
                                    addChild(word_Microscopic);
                                    word_Microscopic.x = 47;
                                    word_Microscopic.y = 120;
    Here’s the code inside the movie clip. This is what the error message is referring to:
    //****************** Calls function to remove itself from the stage****************************
    Object(parent).exitWordMicroscopic();
    What am I doing wrong?

    Here' how the code looks now:
    Objective: To remove the current movieclip while it's playing so that it does not show on the next (or previous) frame.
    Here’s the stage code:
    var word_Microscopic:ASvocabulary_microscopic = new ASvocabulary_microscopic();
    //Removes the movieclip from the stage and enables the button.
    function exitWordMicroscopic():void
        bnt_vocab_microscopic.mouseEnabled = true;
        removeChild(word_Microscopic);
    //******************************Stage buttons**************************************
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goButtonsHomeRead_1);
    function goButtonsHomeRead_1(event:MouseEvent):void
        //Vocabulary buttons
        if (event.target == bnt_vocab_microscopic)
            SoundMixer.stopAll();
            bnt_vocab_microscopic.mouseEnabled = false;
            addChild(word_Microscopic);
            word_Microscopic.x = 47;
            word_Microscopic.y = 120;
            word_Microscopic.play();
    //This button takes the user to the Main Screen
        if (event.target == bnt_ReadGoHome_1)
           // exitWordMicroscopic(); [If I use this function I get this error ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.]
            SoundMixer.stopAll();
            gotoAndPlay("1","Main");
            stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goButtonsHomeRead_1);
    //This takes the user to the next frame.
    if (event.target == GoNext_1)
            SoundMixer.stopAll();
            gotoAndPlay("2");
            stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goButtonsHomeRead_1);
    Here’s the code inside the movie clip.
    //****************** Calls function to remove itself from the stage****************************
    Object(parent).exitWordMicroscopic();
