Rename group of interfaces with udev

Hello!
I was wandering how I could achieve the following with udev or with the help of some other tool:
* Match an interface (used for wan) and rename it to WAN (DONE)
* Match All the rest of the interfaces and rename them as LAN1, LAN2 ... LANn.
The thing is that I want to be able to add an Ethernet card in the future and not have to worry about it's name.

Dockingstation with udev and systemd

first: sorry for my bad english... the last time i have practise my english was in school :-)
now my problem:
i try to setup a udev-rule for my thinkpad T61 when the latptop is (un)docked from the station.
i try a lot of thinks... RUN+=" and such stuff -- but my script takes very long time (Setup Interface, WakeOnLAN, multiple cryptet mounts from my homeserver etc.) and killed by systemd after a while.
related to this (jasonwryan.com -- Scripting with udev) and this (bbs.archlinux.org -- Automating a script for a usb device on systemd?) i create a udev-rule like this:
/etc/udev/rules.d/10-thinkpad-dock.rules:

Can you help? Two dialer interfaces with IP SLA for default route failover - issues

I have an issue with a Cisco 2821, it has an ADSL2+ HWIC whose ATM interfaces is linked to dialer 1 and a Gi0/1 interface with a pppoe client which is linked to dialer 2. Both dialer interfaces are up with their respective IP addresses. If the ADSL on dialer 1 fails i want the IP SLA to kick and and replace the default route for dialer 1 with one for dialer 2.
This config works if you manually shut down the dialer 1 interface, it injects the default route for dialer 2 and then when you unshut the interface, the default route for dialer 1 comes back. The problem i have is if you take out the cable for the ATM interface and take it down, it does not take the route out the routing table and the default route for dialer2, which works if you just shut down dialer 1 does not appear.
whats the difference between shutting down dialer1 and it fails over the default route and taking the cable out then it does not?

Sure that EEM can shut/unshut interface...you have "event track" in EEM for monitoring track events...for example:
event manager applet test
event track 1 state down
action 1.0 command "enable"
action 1.1 command "conf t"
action 1.2 command "interfac dialer 1"
action 1.3 command "shut"
action 1.4 syslog "Dialer 1 down!!!"
action 1.5 end
This would be an example from head :)
You would need another EEM similar to this one for unshutting interface with "event track 1 state up" for bringing interface up again.
Again as I said you would need to test this before putting in production and you would maybe need to tweak this a little bit acording to your needs...

Interfacing with VB Bulletin: formatting issues

I have an iMac, G4, and I am trying to interface with a novel critique group that uses VB Bulletin. Problem is that while everybody using Windows PC's can simply copy/paste from Word, WordPad, Lotus, WordPerfect, and even email, keeping the colors and formatting, when I post, no matter what I try, I get just black text on white.
I need the colors and text differences. Anyone know how I can get it to work?

I did these. My issue is I have a structure
Example:
When we drilldown on the structure to see G/L Account and/or Sub Account (or any characteristic), the results are repeated for each row (Which is understandable). They do not want see the detail for every row in the structure because some are calculations. <b>Where there are calculations on the row structure, they just want to see the calculation total</b>.
The second issue is that some of the rows would require drilldown by cost center or some other element and we would not want to see the other drilldown characteristics (g/l account, Sub Account, etc.) on these select rows.
Is there a Visual Basic Solution for this...
Please help...

Grapher: how to rename groups

I absolutely love the Grapher tool in Mac OS X. There's no other tool I know of that can come up with such a range of features and such a nice GUI. However, I've been suffering from lots of crashes and some program bugs, so I sometimes get the impression that Apple does not have a big interest in maintaining this highly capable tool. Pity.
Anyway, here's my question:
After I create a new group, how do I rename it? All my groups are called "Neue Gruppe" (German for "new group"). Not very useful. Double click doesn't help, context menu doesn't offer rename. Any suggestions?

You can rename groups, but not in Grapher. Grapher is a horribly mutilated version of Curvus Pro, which Apple bought. Its odd behaviour is the result of only a partial port of Curvus Pro's features from OS9 to OSX.
Anyway, you need to use a hex editor like OxED to change the gcx file that your graph is saved as. Opening the gcx file in OxED, you search for the name of the group with Command-F. In your case, you could just search for Gruppe. In the English case, we get 'Untitled Group' for all our new groups. Once the text has been found, you can just replace it using OxED's find-replace dialog box, or by selecting the text in the main window and typing over it.
You need to be quite careful with the renaming, though: your name should have the same number of characters as the default name, 'Neue Gruppe'. If your name is longer than this, and you attempt to replace it, the file will not open afterwards. If your name is shorter than this, consider putting spaces into it to make it the right length. If you have more than one group, then bad luck: Grapher only stores one group name in the file, no matter how many groups you have.
The same needs to be done if you want to change the names of axes; in the 2D case, the first instance of 'x' and 'y' in the gcx file refers to the labels on the axes. You will still need to use 'x' and 'y' in your equation definition, though - it only changes the label.
If you have never done any hex editing before, don't be too scared. It is just a simple search and replace, or you can select the text of the group label in OxED's window, amongst all the binary data. It doesn't take long. OxED is also free, and comes in handy at other times.
Grapher contains some alarming oversights on the part of Apple: I too find it an excellent program, but some of the omissions in functionality are extraordinary. They should open-source it and let the community fix it up, if they do not have the resources to do so themselves. Let's hope the Leopard version is a bit better.

How do I use an audio interface with iMovie?

I'm trying to shoot a short clip of a musician playing. I want to use an interface with my higher end mics, and use iMovie '09 to shoot video. I have a Presonus Firebox as my interface. iMovie just doesn't seem to want to recognize it, nor record through it. This isn't something I can share to GarageBand because the timing between the video and audio has to be perfect. Any help?

Just buy the proper adapter cord, such as MiniDisplay port to HDMI for example. Plug it in and it will be automatically recognized. Use System Preferences > Displays to set options.
The display can Mirror your primary desktop or Extend the Desktop.

Hi i nbeed to write a program to interface with ms exchange dose anyone have any sample code i can look at? i need to extract info such as appointments.

I'll be interested too. I'm writing a java app that would need to read and create calendar appointments, contacts and tasks. The java app is a CRM program, and its database becomes master for the exchange server that would replicate certain information coming from the CRM database/system.

I waste a lot of time entering information because you can't go to a specific day and enter information, nor can you navigate between months and add information on a specific date by clicking on the date. You can't easily scroll month-to-month and once you do by scrolling through nine months to get to where you want to be, you cannot enter information by clicking on a specific day in the month and entering information. I just called Apple and they verified that this is the way it works. You cannot go to a date and enter information, you keep getting thrown back to today and then you have to go into the calendar and change it manually on the screen. It is just not efficient.

Creation of Server Proxy for Message interface with External Defination

I am getting a problem while generating a server proxy for the inbound interface . The request message used in the inbound interface is a external definition which is uploaded using a XSD file. The XSD file was supplied by a third party which is having very high complex strucuture and used lot of abstract data types in the design. When i tried to generate the proxy in the R/3 system (Transaction SPROXY) for the inbound interface i am getting following error.

Diagnosis
In a message interface you can use messages from different sources:
Message types and fault message types edited in the Enterprise Services Repository
Messages imported into the Enterprise Services Repository (external definitions, RFC, IDoc)
In the current message interface, message types from different sources have been used. Since messages from these different sources must be handled differently during proxy generation, such a mixture of messages within a message interface is not possible.
System Response
The interface cannot be generated.
Procedure
Change the interface definition accordingly in the Enterprise Services Repository.
Please guide me, how to generate the proxy for the interface with external defination message. I could nt geneate manullay, because it is having very high complexity and its a big structure.

Hi,
i. Import your message schemas from external definitions, or RFCs or IDocs from SAP systems. These definitions already contain data types.
ii. Create a message interface and reference the messages of the external definition, or the RFC or IDoc message.

How do I Rename Mac Hard Drive with Home Folder Only?

I have a Macbook Pro with an SSD which has OSX Snow Leopard and my Applications, and the other hard drive has my Home Folder. I replaced the optical drive with the SSD.
The other hard drive has the standard name of 'Macintosh HD'. I need to change it to something without spaces in order to get some developer software to work (i.e., it can't have spaces in the workspace name, and now that my Home folder is on a drive that doesn't have OSX, it refers to it as '/Volumes/Macintosh HD/.../...'
I ran into a disaster by simply changing the 'Macintosh HD' name to 'MacintoshHD' - It prevented me from logging in and I had to use the OSX Install disk to use the command line to rename the hard drive back to 'Macintosh HD'. My guess is because my account was referencing a home folder location that no longer existed.
My question is how can I rename my hard drive with my Home Folder? Can I change the hard drive name, and then immediately change my Account to reference the new hard drive name (and thus the new location of my home folder), and then reboot? Will this work if I do this in this order? Or is there another way to handle this entirely?
I'm very hesitant to try this again as I don't want to have to go back and use the OSX install disk - my SSD took the place of the optical drive and I have to go and take it out, put it back in...etc.
Any help is appreciated.

I don't have a setup to test this, but you might try the following:
Create a second "normal" admin account with its home folder on the boot drive, then log out of your regular account and log into the new one. From there you could rename the large hard drive, then go to System Preferences>Accounts, select the first account, then right-click>Advanced options to change its home directory path to match the new HD name. That way you're not changing the home folder path "in mid-air."
It's probably a good idea to keep a tiny "self-contained" admin account on the boot drive anyway, so you don't get locked out in the event of future trouble accessing the large disk.
