Render Attachments in PDF files

Hi,
We have a user action in our process for which we want to allow users to add attachments to the form.
We are then rendering the form as a PDF and e-mailing the form to a client. however we also want to e-mail any attachments that the user has added to the form.
My question is, how can we get the attachments to render as attachments within the PDF document?
Thanks
James

Hi James
Strictly speaking, you can't. The Workflow system has its own mechanism for handling attachments - they are attached via Form Manager's custom "attachment" user interface, rather than being attached "inside" the PDF.
You could get at these attachments, and attach them to your outbound email as regular attachments, rather than embedded within the PDF.
If you have a strong requirement to embed the attachments inside the PDF, there may be something we could do. Please email info-at-avoka.com if you want to discuss further.

  • Viewing attachments to PDF files in Preview

    Hi all,
Sometimes files are attached to PDFs so that the attached file (spreadsheet, movie, whatever) comes along with the PDF. It's easy to see the attached files using Acrobat Reader (you click on the paperclip icon), but I can't figure out how to see them in Preview. Is this possible? Please note that I am talking about attachments within PDF files, not PDFs attached to emails!
    Thanks in advance,

I have exactly the same problem with PDFs containing bitmaps created by Illustrator CS3 (and CS4) -- the bitmap appears as negative.
It has to do with the compression method used for the bitmaps in the Adobe PDF creation. If it is JPEG or JPEG2000 the problem occurs, if it's ZIP or no compression, the image is fine.
If have reported this to Apple as a bug already.
10.6.2 has NOT fixed this behaviour.

  • HT2500 Using Mail in System X 5.8 It will not accept attachments (photos, pdf files)

Using Mail in System X 5.8 It will not accept attachments (photos, pdf files) to send. It was working just fine and after some period of non-use it just stopped accepting attachments to send. The system is all up to date. And, I have the same problem on two different Imacs.

I had exactly the same problem as arthur1234. I followed his own suggested fix in his post of 10/12/2012 at 9:31 AM.
His fix worked perfectly. Attachments are now being sent and received as they have been for the last 10 years or so.

  • ZIP attachments in PDF file

How can ZIP files be opened from a PDF file using Preview.
First, how can you see attachments within Preview, and then, how can it be opened.

For full details on the fix / workaround, see thread this post <http://forums.adobe.com/message/1152245#1152245> in the "Acrobat 9 Pro can't open zip attachment in Adobe tutorial PDF".

  • EMail Attachments using PDF file

    Hi guys
I have developed an application using Oracle 8i and forms 6i. There is a report developed in 6i repors and saved as PDF format. this file I have to send as attachemnts to the employees.
Is there any way to send PDF file as attachemnts using forms 6i.

The easiest way (and OS independent, so you don't need Outlook or blat or something like that) is to send the email and attachment from the database. Package utl_smtp won't let you do that, but with Java mail you can. So, after you generated your report, you can mail it using Java mail.
Everything is described very clearly in note 120994.1 on Metalink (How to Send E-mail With Attachments from PL/SQL Using Java Stored Procedures).

  • How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?

How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?
I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document.  When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

  • Merge two Livecycle PDF files into one PDF?

I have a new requirement where I need to take two different PDF forms I'm producing from LiveCycle and merge them together into a single PDF.
I have heard that Adobe Acrobat cannot edit LiveCycle files, does anyone know if it is possible to merge two Livecycle PDFs together into a single file?

    Hello Clay,
This is not available in the standard SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe solution.
    What I can recommend is:
Step 1: retrive the data back from the PDF files using the getData functionality of the ADS.
Step 2: Render a new PDF file. The template of this new PDF should contain the template of both original PDF files.
This should work if both of the original PDF files were created by the SAP Systems ADS.
    Best regards,

  • I would like to convert convert PDF attachments to PDF.

For example we have word files that are embedded as attachments inside PDF files that are in native format (docx). I need to have them converted to PDF. Is this possible?

    Rob,
There is a great way to do that, but it requires a third-party plug-in to achieve the automation you're after.  It's called AutoPortfolio and is available from an Adobe Solution Partner called Evermap.  One of its many capabilities is the conversion of email contained in a Portfolio (Portfolios are the key ingredient here), which already contains the embedded attachments as a result of conversion from Outlook or Lotus Notes with Acrobat, to a standard or "flat" PDF.  As part of this process, it gives you the option to extract any embedded attachments and convert them to PDF, after which they will appear as an additional page in the resulting flat PDF file.  Nested bookmarks are also created as part of this process for both the parent email and each attachment.
Although you are only referring to a single email, this process can be applied to extremely large Portfolios, up to the limitations of your computer's RAM and CPU.  It has several other uses, but the process you are referring to is a flagship feature.
Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • Viewing Excel & PDF file attachments in Mac Mail 3.6

I setup my IMAP Gmail account on my Macbook's Mail 3.6. In the advanced tab of my Gmail account preferences in Mail 3.6 under "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing:" I have selected "All messages and their attachments"
Whenever I click on an Excel attachment, I get the error message "'filename' cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding."
Whenever I click on a PDF attachment, I get the error message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."
I then tried saving the attachments from Mail 3.6 to my hard drive, but received the same error messages when I tried to open them.
However, when I access my Gmail account using my browser and download the same attachments to my hard drive, they open up without any problems.
I have deleted the folder containing the emails containing the attachments from Mail 3.6 and re-synced it with Gmail. While it successfully completes the download of all of the messages and their attachments, the same problem occurs. Oddly enough, this problem does not occur with Word Document attachments or JPEG file attachments.
This is my first Mac and while I am extremely proficient with Windows, I am clueless with Mac OS X. I have read posts about AppleDouble and Compression, but can't seem to find those options to play around with, even though I do not think that either is the issue. Any help is highly appreciated.

    Geeborg,
I used to .Mac webmail with Firefox on Windows and opened a message with an attachment (mpg). I clicked on the small triangle behind the word "Attachments" and then I clicked on the name of the attachment. This opened a window stating that the attachment would be downloaded. After some time I was asked to open the file with application xyz (I don't remember the name) or to save it on disk. Choosing to open the file finally launched Windows Media Player which played the mpg.
Can you try these steps on one of your attachments?

  • I can't open PDF File Attachments

    Hello,
I use the environments Windows 7, MS Office 2010 and Adobe Reader 11.0.09.
In the perferences on the categories Trust Manager I had actived the function: PDF File Attachments: Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external application
Now I'm trying in a PDF document to open a Word or Excel file and get the error message: Acrobat can not open the file attachment Because your PDF file attachment setting do not allow this file type to be opened.
And I can just open Word and Excel files.
If I open the PDF file with Adobe Acrobat 11.0.09 then I can do that.
    Someone has a idea.
    Regards
    Erdem

    Hi Aadesh,
I had actived the Trust Manager -> 'Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external application'  on Acrobat and Reader 11.0.09.
I can open the non-PDF files with Acrobat but not with Reader.

  • Why are my received file attachments (Office files such as .doc, .docx, .xlsx but also pdf files) corrupted - so that I cannot open them?

For the last month, 90% of the file attachments that I receive by email will not open on my MacBook Pro (2009, running Mac OS 10.7.5). I get assorted messages, but generally saying that the file is corrupt, or the filename contains unacceptable characters. The problem has been generally with Word files (.doc and .docx)], Excel files (.xls and .xlsx) and pdf files.
The bit that I don't understand is that I can open the same email attachments (without any problem) when downloaded on my iMac. And I have recently found that colleagues who received the same emails can open them, and can transfer the files to me (usually by USB stick) … and then I can open them. But I still cannot open the same files received as email attachments on my MacBook Pro.
Which makes me think that the files (email attachments) are somehow being corrupted as they are downloaded?
I installed the Mac OS X Update Combined 10.7.5 in July, so perhaps this was when the problem started? And, although it may be unrelated, around the same time as this problem started, I transferred some files from a colleague's computer on a USB stick and found that the USB stick had picked up a virus/malware, which meant that the stick was dead, and I had to reformat the stick. I scanned my computer (using ClamXav, with the latest updates) and quarantined a file found on the USB stick and on my computer.
Any thoughts on why this might happen, and what I can do to sort it out (as it is making work very difficult - I travel a lot, and rely on being able to open and read files sent from countries all over the world, often by people using old versions of Office software)? I have never had problems in the past, and can't understand why my other computer, and my colleagues, can all open these files, but my laptop will not! Many thanks for any help!
