Renewing Digital ID's

I have created a digital ID in Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.0.0. Under the "Security Settings" dialog my digital ID shows an expiry date 5 years from the time I created it. I'm assuming this means that the certifications and signatures in the documents I certify and sign will become invalid after this date. However, I want the documents to remain valid forever unless they are tampered with. So how would I renew the digital ID expiry such that all my documents still verify when users open them?
Any advice appreciated.

David,

Mike is correct. When a signature is validated, the person validating it (usually by just opening the file) has the option to ask if the signature is valid "at the time the document was signed" or "at the current time". What this really means is whether the certificate used to sign it was valid at signing time or current time. If they ask about current time, and the certificate is expired at the current time, then the answer will be that the signature has a problem. If they ask about the signing time, then all is well and the signature should be valid.
If the certificate used to sign is not a self-sign certificate, there are more variables. The certificate could be revoked by the issuer (eg, the certificate was issued by your company and you no longer work there), but the same idea applies - if the certificate was known to be good at the time of signing, then the signature is considered valid.

  • So what exactly does limited to "one app" mean with a Pro account and the new prices?

    So it seems Pro has dropped in price but it is now limited to "one App".
    So what exactly does that "one App" mean?
    Only one tablet version or one phone version for a certain title?
    Or you can have a tablet & phone version including android & iOS for that one title?

    I think that everyone received it just now…
    Changes to Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition
    Effective immediately, all customers who newly purchase or renew Digital Publishing Suite (DPS), Professional Edition, will be able to publish only one app per license of DPS Professional Edition.
    Under this policy change, Professional Edition customers can publish an unlimited number of issues (.folio files) to a single app and distribute those issues based on purchased fulfillment bundles.
    An app created with a single license of DPS Professional Edition can be distributed to any or all of the marketplaces that DPS supports, including the Apple App Store (and Newsstand), Google Play, Amazon Appstore, and the Windows Store.
    In conjunction with this policy change, Adobe is reducing the price of a Professional Edition license to $4,800 USD annually (€3,600/¥480,000) or to $400 per month (€300/¥40,000) and will include 1,000 fulfillments annually. The number of fulfillments included with a monthly subscription remain unchanged.
    This policy does not apply to test or demo apps published using Professional Edition. The one-app-per-license policy applies only to an app published to a supported marketplace(s).
    If you are an agency, upon your renewal or purchase of Professional Edition, you can create only one app per Professional Edition license. If you have multiple clients for whom you are creating apps, either you as the agency or your client must purchase a Professional Edition license for each app published to a supported marketplace(s).
    If you are an existing Professional Edition customer and choose to renew your Professional Edition license at the end of your annual agreement, these changes, including the lower price point and 1,000 fulfillments, apply at that time. These changes do not apply to your existing DPS Professional Edition agreement and take effect only if you renew your license.
    DPS Professional Edition customers can continue to create unlimited Single Edition apps, which is unchanged under the new policy. A Single Edition app is defined as an app that includes one built-in or embedded folio.
    If you expect to publish three or more apps annually, we encourage you to contact your local reseller to discuss pricing for a multi-year Enterprise Edition license.
    Enterprise Edition offers additional functionality and benefits not available through Professional Edition. These include app customization, integration with back-end business systems, in-app marketing tools, targeted content based on user entitlement, and the ability to publish apps privately.

  • Automatically renewing certificates for digital signatures

    Is it possible to setup some form of system that automatically renews the user certificate for digital signatures? If so, where can i find information on this?

    Hi - these are all reader extended through Livecycle ES Reader extensions and are signed by users in Reader. What I am asking is if anyone has an idea where this behaviour is declared, so that I can change it.

    Hi,
    I created the self signed Digital certificate programmatically.My certificate got expired.I want to Renewal the Digital certificate programmatically.
    If any one is having idea to renewal the certificate,please share it to me.
    Thank you

    Whenever we want to renewal the certificate , we have to create new key store file and new certficate file .
    NO
    Absolutely not.
    I've just told you that.
    Instead of tcreating new certificate/keystore file, is it possible to update the +'valid from and Valid to date '+ alone in old keystore file?I've jsut answered that as well. I don't know what code you executed to generate the original certificate but you have to repeat the part that signed it.

  • I cannot open a book borrowed from the library on my kobo. It says, "this document is protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management licence which has expired. Please renew." How do I do this?

    How do you renew Adobe Digital Rights Management licence?

    You need "sysinternal's process explorer", it is free and can replace the Microsoft process explorer, that you get by "CTRL+ALT+DELETE". Either program will allow you to kill the instances of FF that didn't die as they should have, when you closed them. Sysinternal is easier to use, it is a graphic display with many options. Do not push "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" twice unless you want to reboot, that is its default behaviour under Microsoft.

  • Renew subscription EVERY time I launch an app??

    Hey guys, I was asked by the AdobeCare Twitter Account to post my issue in this forum, so here I am:
    I recently subscribed to a Adobe CC membership and everything worked fine when I had the CS6.
    Now since the CC Versions were released, I wanted to update of course. So I did.
    Since then I am constantly haveing the same issue: I can not launch an app without having to do so many steps!
    Here is what I have to do in order to open up any app (I have to do this EVERY time I launch an app..meaning when I open PS I do this, when I open ID I do this etc)
    1) I click on the icon of the app (in this example PS)
    2) I get the following "error":
    (it is asking me to renew my subscription)
    3) I click on "try again" and I get this message:
    (it says "Thank you, your subscription for CC is now activated")
    4) I click on "Continue" and get this message (again):
    So I click on "Do you have another Adobe-ID?" and get to see this window:
    ... where I type in my Password and click on "Sign in" resulting in this:
    and finally after clicking on "accept" in this:
    ...which basically is the same windows I get to see right at the beginning.
    At this point I want to mention again that I have to do this  e v e r y t i m e  I start an app, for each app I have to run through all of these steps and if I close an app by accident and re-open it, I have to do this again.
    I already tried to delete that file in the OOBE folder, did not work out.
    Also, I am lacking all the presets in Premiere Pro (Digital DSLR etc) which makes me think, that all of my apps are running in trial mode..? At least I had this issue, when I launched Premiere as a trial in the past.
    Don't get me wrong..But this is totally annoying and kills my workflow.
    Any help? I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks and greets from Germany!
    Danilo

    On the device that you don't want the apps to be downloaded on, go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads. Once you turn that off, your problem will be fixed.

  • J2EE Certificate Renewal in PI 7.0

    Hi
    We are executing a project to renew the certificates installed in our XI server. The certificate which is currently installed in our XI severer is signed by Verisign. All partners communicating to the XI server use the certificate to digitally sign the message. In XI server we have configured communication channels to receive process the signed message and also to deliver digitally signed message to partners. The validity of the current certificate installed in our system is going to end by the end of Feb. We are looking at renewing the certificate before the expiry date so that there will not be any interruption in partner communication. In this regard, please provide your inputs to the following items
    1. Should the existing CSR be sent to the CA for validity extension or a new CSR to be generated
    2. During certificate renewal, can the existing private/public key be retained for the renewed certificate
    3. Can we have the old certificate installed in the XI server along with the newly renewed certificate, so that the partners can be gradually migrated
    4. Is XI server restart required after certificate installation/upgrade
    We have referred the SAP Note 694290 for Verisign certificate renewal

  • Digital Signature validation

    I have been using digital certificates to sign pdf documents for approximately a year.  The signatures can be checked against  a CRL which is provided on the internet.  So far Adobe Acrobat Reader has worked fine, retreiving CRLS and validating certificates.
    Today I found out that since renewing expired certificates ( the default lifetime was set to 1 year) the  signatures on old signed documents are unverified .  The local time of the computer was stored in the signature not a timestamp.
    I found that reader defaults to using the local time of the computer to validate an old signature when a timestamp is not used, this has been rectified in 9.1 so that it uses to date that the signature was generated (why on earth would it use anything else!).  I now have the signatures validated by changing this setting providing the date range of the CRL in the reader encompases the end date of the certificate.
    However, when the reader updates the CRL in the cache and the new CRL date range does not include that of the original signature the reader throws up an error stating that the CRL is invalid or expired.
    How can I get it to agree pass the validation without turning off revocation checking?  I have the CRLs that were in force at the time of the signing but there is no way I can provide them to the reader.  How can I make the reader apply the current and valid CRL to the old documents.  The expiry date of the old certificates are still in there?
    I always thought that not having to keep a CRL history for expired certificates was a dumb idea when I read the documents, but I didn't imagine that old signatures would become invalid when the certificate expired (mine have become invalid less thant 5 days after the documents were signed.  What were the developers thinking.
    This is pushing toward creating certificates with lifetimes of 100's or thousands of years so that they can always be validated.
    Anybody have a working solution.

    I have found a solution.to this
    Using a virtual machine I set the date on the system back to a point in time when the certificates were all valid.  I then create a new crl with a lifetime which makes it valid for one month from the real date (today).  I then set the date back and copy the crl to the distrubution point.
    Hey presto, acrobat reader loads the crl and is quite happy to accept it even though it has events recorded in it that happened after the date on which it was created!.
    Problem solved, but for how long?

  • Digitally Signing Flex/AIR Application

    I am looking for some help with updating an AIR application with a renewed certificate.
    The way that Adobe AIR handles digitally signed certificates is fairly confusing. I think it has changed with the release of AIR 1.5.3 and this change has caught us off guard and has resulted in some problems.
    According to the Adobe website: Prior to AIR 1.5.3, signing an AIR application with a renewed certificate did not always require a migration signature. Starting with AIR 1.5.3, a migration signature is always required for renewed certificates.
    Furthermore: The certificate must be changed before the original certificate expires. If you do not create an update signed with a migration signature before your certificate expires, users will have to uninstall their existing version of your application before installing a new version. As of AIR 1.5.3, an expired certificate can be used to apply a migration signature within a 180 day grace period after the certificate has expired. (You cannot use the expired certificate to apply the main application signature.).
    See:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7ff0. html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7cca
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS13ACB483-1711-43c0-9049-0A7251630A7D.htm l
    BOTTOM LINE:
    We did not create a "migration signature" within the 180 grace period because we had no updates (bug fixes or enhancements) to our application during this time. When I finally did prepare a new release of our application and signed it with our new certificate, the Adobe installer is not recognizing the new application as an UPDATE of the old application so when you try to install it, the user gets an error message that an application that the same name is already installed. In the past, the installer recognizes the new application as an update and it replaces the old app. I think there may be a way for me to handle this properly, but all of my attempts so far have not produced the results I am looking for.
    The issues may be related to specifying a Publisher ID. We may need to specify the publisherId in the descriptor.xml file, which we have never had to do in the past. However, the publisherId property may only be available in 1.5.3. I have been having trouble specifying the 1.5.3 name space (<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.5.3">). I think that must only be available for newer versions of the compiler. I am currently using 3.5.
    Are there any experts on this topic that can explain How I can package my updated app so that the installer recognizes it as an UPDATE and not a NEW APP with the same name (which doesn't work)?

    Any ideas on this?

  • Is it possible to change the hash algorithm when I renew the Root CA

    My Root CA is installed on a Windows Server 2008. The Hash algorithm of Root CA in my environment is MD5. I would like to renew the Root CA and change the Hash algorithm to SHA1. Is it possible to change it?
    Regards,
    Terry | My Blog: http://terrytlslau.tls1.cc

    Hi,
    The hashing
    algorithm chosen during the setup of a Certificate Authority determines how the certificates that the CA issues are digitally signed. It is a one
    algorithm per CA scenario, so if your environment requires multiple algorithms for compatibility, then you will need multiple PKI hierarchies (one for each
    algorithm.) Prior to Windows 2008, you had to rebuild the CA and decommision the entire PKI hierarchy to
    change the signing algorithm used. In Windows 2008 and 2008 R2, we allow you to
    change the algorithm and from that point forward it will digitally sign all new certificates with the updated
    algorithm.
    The
    Certificate
    Services Enhancements in Longhorn Server Whitepaper describing these steps can be found under the section
    Configuring the Cryptographic Algorithms used by the CA.
    Step 1: Verify the configuration of the CRL and AIA paths. Sometimes users will manually
    change these paths to not include the crl name suffix variable that distinguish multiple certificates on a CA. This is important because the process of changing the
    algorithm requires the renewal of the private key and results in administration of multiple CA certificates. When we publish multiple crt and crls, they will be identified as CAName and CAName(1.) You can verify these paths
    include the variables by checking the registry keys below:
    [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\{CAname}
    CRLPublicationURLs = "1:%WINDIR%\system32\CertSrv\CertEnroll\%%3%%8%%9.crl\n2:http://FCCA01.fourthcoffee.com/certenroll/%%3%%8%%9.crl\n10:ldap:///CN=%%7%%8,CN=%%2,CN=CDP,CN=Public
    Key Services,CN=Services,%%6%%10"
    CACertPublicationURLs = "1:%WINDIR%\system32\CertSrv\CertEnroll\%%1_%%3%%4.crt\n2:http://FCCA01.fourthcoffee.com/certenroll/%%1_%%3%%4.crt\n2:ldap:///CN=%%7,CN=AIA,CN=Public Key Services,CN=Services,%%6%%11"
    Step 2: Modify the CSP parameters to specify the new
    algorithm. The CSP may use the original CryptoAPI or Cryptography API:Next Generation - you can verify this by looking in the registry key
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\{CAname}\CSP.
    If you have the regvalues
    CNGPublicKeyAlgorithm and CNGHashAlgorithm then your CSP is using Next Generation.
    Change the
    algorithm from MD5 to SHA1 and was using Cryptography API: Next Generation. The original registry value was:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CertSvc\Configuration\{CAname}\CSP]
    "ProviderType"=dword:00000000
    "Provider"="Microsoft Software Key Storage Provider"
    "HashAlgorithm"=dword:00008003
    "CNGPublicKeyAlgorithm"="RSA"
    "CNGHashAlgorithm"="MD5"
    "MachineKeyset"=dword:00000001
    we changed it to
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CertSvc\Configuration\{CAname}\CSP]
    "ProviderType"=dword:00000000
    "Provider"="Microsoft Software Key Storage Provider"
    "HashAlgorithm"=dword:00008004
    "CNGPublicKeyAlgorithm"="RSA"
    "CNGHashAlgorithm"="SHA1"
    "MachineKeyset"=dword:00000001
    Step 3: Restart the CA service. You can do this in the CA MMC. Right Click on the
    CA and choose "Stop Service" and "Start Service".
    Step 4: Renew the CA certificate with new Private Key. Right click on the CA and
    choose "Renew CA certificate". Choose to renew the public and private key pair. On completion, this will result in the CA having two certificates. You will see that the old one has the MD5 for the Signature
    Hash Algorithm and that the new certificate uses SHA1.
    Hope this helps!

  • Photos not aligning to grid when importing from digital camera,or file

    I hope I am in the right place. Just starting today, when I import photos from my digital camera, or files sent in an email, they are not appearing in order, in the grid alignment. There are spaces in between the photos, they are disorderly, and I have to manually put them in alignment. I have selected "align photos to grid" in preferences, and I am at a loss as to why this is happening just now.
    Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    CGM

    A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
    This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Can't digitally sign and encrypt email any longer.

    I used to sign and encrypt my emails digitally and then send them to people. I had two email certificates from Comodo, and it's been a while they're expired. so I renewed my certificates and deleted the old ones from my keychain, then downloaded and added the new ones. The trouble is I no longer get the digitally sign the message and encrypt the message button when I compose a new email. What could be the problem? how can I fix this?

    I am now having the same problem.  Have you seen a resolution yet?
