Repetitive navigation of folder heirarchies

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to get Finder to remember the last folder used by an application. I seem to be spending a huge amount of time repeatedly navigating to the same folder when saving files. This seems to be happening in all apps from the likes of Adobe and even the Apple Pro Apps.
There used to be a finder pref in OS9 through which you could get Finder to remember the last folder used, so when repeatedly saving files the 'save as' dialog would open and be pointing at the required folder instantly.
I know this seem like a minor gripe but when saving many files to deep folders it becomes quite irritating to have to follow the same path time and time again.
Any ideas anyone?

A second vote for Default Folder.
My 3 favorite DF behaviors are:
1. Menu bar option that gives you access to defined sets of folders.
2. Save menu additions that give you easy access to recent/favorite folders, with keystroke options.
3. (my top favorite) If you have the target folder open in the finder and are in another application, say Word, when your mouse goes outside the save box and over folders that are in the background in Finder, the screen dims and shows the names of those folders--then clicking changes the save box to that particular folder.
The only problem I've had with DF is that I think it conflicts with Adobe's new proprietary file navigation windows that are part of CS2. But you can tell DF not to show up in those apps if you like.

  • Attributes are not displaying in Navigational Attributes area of DSO.

    Hi Experts,
I have created a DSO and have included Info Objects 0SOLD_TO & 0SHIP_TO. In the Navigational Attributes area, its attributes are not getting displayed even though the attributes are in the info object.
What are the steps needed to perform for it to display there?
    Waiting for your reply,
    Thanks in advance,
    With Kind Regards,
    Shreeem

    Hi Shreem,
If you want attributes of any master objects in navigational attributes section, you have make them navigational attributes while defining base info object.
    Please follow the below steps.
    1) goto RSA1, search for 0SOLD_TO & 0SHIP_TO info objects and open them
    2) goto edit mode of info object and goto attributes section.
    3) here you will find for every object "DIS" --- this means these attributes are display attributes.
    4) If you want to change any attribute to NAV, then click on "Pencil Mark".
    5) Now you can see text NAV instead of DIS for that attribute.
activate the info object and goto DSO, now you will see that attribute in navigational attribute folder.

  • Expand all folders in the detailed navigation by default on click of Role

    Hi All,
I have a requirement on expand all the folders in the detailed navigation by defalut when we click a Role in the Fist level navigation.
Please have a look about our requirement as mentioned below.
    ->Role1(First Level Navigation)
       ->Wokset1(Second Level)
           -> Folder1(Detailed Navigation entry Folder)
                  -> Folder2
                       Page1
                       Page2
                  ->Folder3
                       Page3
                       Page4
                  -> Folder4
                       Page5
                       Page6
When the user clicks on Role1 then automatically all the folders in the detailed navigation should be expanded by default then user could see all the pages displayed in all folders. currently the functionality is collapsed all the folders by default in the detailed navigation then user has to expand the folders manually.
Regading this issue, i had seen couple of threads on the same but getting confusion what is the exact solution for the solution.
in those existing threads some people has mentioned that need to change code in the lightdetailnavigation.par or some other mentioned that it is not worked out even do the required changes in the code of light detail navigation part file. there is no clarity in the existing threads for getting  the exact solution . please let me know what are the properties needs to be changed at folder level or workset level to make sure all the folders should be expanded by default in the detailed navigation??
Currently we are using portal 7.0 version.
Any pointers in this regard would be the great help to us??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
To expand all the folder by default, we need to set the property of the detailed navigation tree.
Open your framework page in the content administration.
Check on the detailed navigation check box and click on the properties button.
In the properties, set the value of initial state= OPEN .
This will expand all the folders by default.
    Hope you understood.

  • Inconsistencies with Navigation Attributes

    Hello all,
We are experiencing some inconsistencies with navigation attributes. Attributes are flagged as navigational on the InfoObject Level and also selected in the InfoProvider's Navigation Attributes folder. However some of them are showing in the Query as Navigation Attributes while other's don't. The same process was followed for all of them. Any ideas why this might happen?
    Thank you so much!

Take the "Company", "Area" and "Department" out from the attribute list of the Org Unit !!
then delete  "Company", "Area" and "Department" one by one ..
And then try deleting orgunit ..
    Regards.

  • How can I fully see longer folder names in folder tree?

Is there any way to get the "Folders" part of the left panel to fully display longer folder names? My folder structure and naming contains names such that even with the panel stretched as big as it will go, I still can't see the entire name. If I could do something like make the font considerably smaller (the size it is in Windows Explorer, for example) this would not be a problem, but since I don't seem to be able to do this, I'm looking for other options. (I already have it at the "small" setting.)
What are others doing in this regard? My folder paths/names really aren't "that" long, so it seems like this shouldn't be an issue. With the panel at it's default size, I can hardly see ANY of the folder names -- not even the full date, which is how my folder names start. This is a rather big stumbling block for me since navigating the folder tree is a major part of my daily work, and this is way, WAY easier in other application compared to LR. I'm wondering if I'm simply missing something.
    Thanks,
    Larry

    >Possibly you are missing that if you position the cursor midway >between the panels just so, it'll turn into a vertical line and you >can hold and drag the panel to the right to expand.
I didn't miss that -- as per my initial post, I already have the panel sized as wide as it will go, but there is a limit to how far you can move the divider, and the names still don't fit.

  • Where is my Preset Folder?

My folder on the left side panel is completely gone and I can't figure out how to get it back.  From Navigator, Catalog, Folder, Collections, and Publish Services... I don't know where the Preset went!

Go to the Window menu, it's between Help and View, select Panels, select Presets

  • Navigation attributes while creating the ODS

    Hi all.
can you pls let me know what is the use of navigation attributes folder while creating ODS.& also about index folder.
    Kind Regards,
    sami.

    Hi,
Navigational Attributes folder: If you have info-object like 0Material in your ODS then attributes of info-object 0MAterial which are marked as navigational comes under this folder and there is an option of check marking these navigational attributes. If you check mark this navigational attribute it will be available in reporting just like another info-object(means you can put filter on this navigational attribute).
Index Folder: Basic reason to have index folder is same as "indexing" this improves the reading from this ODS. Like if you are pulling records from this ODS or you have written select query on this ODS in your routines, indexing on this ODS will improve reading drastically. you can pull info-objects into index folder on the basis of which you are reading data from this DSO, it will improve reading.

    To configure Metadata Navigator connections:
    1. Configure the connection to the work repository in Designer.
    2. Go to your Oracle Data Integrator installation folder's /bin sub-directory.
    3. Copy the snps_login_work.xml file from this directory into /WEB_INF sub-directory of theMetadata Navigator deployment folder's.

  • Metadata navigator in Sunopsis V3

    Hi,
Is metadata navigator available in SunopsisV3, if so give me the URL?
What is the URL for Metadata navigator in ODI?

So I'm now in ODI and moreover I'm in a client office and that's not where I'have installed Metadata but if I remeber well, You don't have to register another Licence cause the modules right are in the same licence than Sunopsis.
I have find this in documentation :
    Installing Metadata Navigator
Metadata Navigator is a Servlet/JSP application that enables access to the Repository through a Web interface. This application requires a Web server with a Servlet/JSP container such as Jakarta Tomcat or Oracle Container for Java (OC4J).
    Deploying Metadata Navigator
Note: To deploy Metadata Navigator, refer to the documentation of your application server to find the recommended method for deploying a web application from a web application resource (WAR) file or from a set of JSP pages.
    To install Metadata Navigator:
    1. Insert the Oracle Data Integrator CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
    2. To install Metadata Navigator, you may either:
    * Use the web application deployment feature of the application server with the oracledimn.war file located in the /setup/manual/ directory on the CD. This solution is recommended for OC4J (Use the Deploy button in the Applications tab).
    * if the application server allows it, copy the /oracledimn directory from the CD to the application server's web applications directory (Webapps for Tomcat).
    3. Restart the web server hosting the application.
    Install the JDBC driver
Metadata Navigator uses the JDBC connectivity to access the database server hosting the Repository to explore. It is necessary to configure the JDBC connectivity on the machine where Metadata Navigator is installed.
The Java classes of the JDBC driver must be copied in the /WEB-INF/lib sub-directory of the Metadata Navigator installation folder, and must have the .jar extension. Rename the file extension to .jar if necessary (e.g., from .zip to .jar). Refer to the installation documentation for the JDBC driver provided with your database for more information.
    Configure Metadata Navigator Connections
Metadata Navigator is installed with default connections. It is necessary to configure the connections to your repositories in the web application.
    To configure Metadata Navigator connections:
    1. Configure the connection to the work repository in Designer.
    2. Go to your Oracle Data Integrator installation folder's /bin sub-directory.
    3. Copy the snps_login_work.xml file from this directory into /WEB_INF sub-directory of the Metadata Navigator deployment folder's.
--> this file is located in my machine maybe it could help you to find it :
    file:///C:/oracledi/doc/webhelp/en/setup/snpsrepexp_setup.htm
For the URL all depend on the web server.
But by editing all the application on it you could retrieve Metadata Navigator.
Ask me if you want more cause I have passed one day to install and test this module......

  • Navigation attribute behaviour during time dependent master data read

    Hi All,
My report is based on infocube. There is one time depenedent master data characteristic named 0EMPLOYEE in the cube.
My report is run for a specific time period. For example Monthly and quaterly level.
There are many infoobject form part of dimension in cube and few are part of navigation attribute folder.
Now in the transformation there are some fields which needs to be read from master data depending upon some time characteristic for ex:-0CALMONTH, 0CALDAY. This rule is mapped correctly and data is also being stored correctly as per the specific time period in the cube.
Now there are some navigation attirbute which reads the data from 0EMPLOYEE master data itself.
My doubt is will navigation attribute read the latest record for the employee or is it intelligent enough to read the right records depending upon specific time char?
With navigation attribute we dont have option to specify any rule as compared to normal objects in transformation.
What will navigation attribute read ? Latest record or speicific records as per time period?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anup

    Hi Anup,
Let me give you one small example about time dependent attribute work,
let us say we have 0COSTCENTER as time dependent attribute of 0CUSTOMER. Now in your transaction data you have loaded values of 0CUSTOMER and in the query you have used 0CUSTOMER_COSTCENTER attribute.
    Transaction Data,
    Tran. no.      Customer Number       Amount
      1                      123                          500
       2                      125                         450
       3                     126                          900
    Master Data:
Customer      Cost Center       Valid From             Valid To
      123                COST1                1st Jan                 15th Jan
       123               COST2                 16th Jan              30 March
      123                 COST3                31st March          30 June
In the above example the data loaded for valid to and valid from has came from source system and for this data you will have direct mapping done in transformation. Now data will reside as above in your system.
When you use Key date as 20th Jan then the cost center for customer 123 in the query will be shown as COST2. So this assignment of time dependent data is done at runtime only and will not have any impact on underlying data.
    Regards,
    Durgesh.

  • Metadata Navigator & OC4J error : No login registry foun

  • Roles and Navigation

    Hi,
Our portal environment is NW04 Stack 11. Let me describe what I am trying to do.
Top Level Navigation tab -> Folder F1
    2nd Level Navigation for Folder F1 -> F1a, F1b, F1c
Detailed Navigation for F1a -> Public, Private
I know how to set up the PUBLIC folder so it appears for all users but how would I set up the PRIVATE folder to only appear for selected users?
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kris

    Hi Kris,
You have to create 2 different roles with the same structure, one with Public at the bottom, and the other with Private.
Then you should set the property "merge id" of Folder F1 in the first role to a string of your choice, and set it in the Folder F1 in the second role <b>to the same string</b>.
Do the same for the rest of the merged points of the two roles (F1a F1b and F1c).
Finally, you can set the property "sort priority" of Public and Private to determine the order between them for users that have both roles.
    Hope that helps,
    Yoav.

  • About navigation between items

    Hello all,
we are beginning with portal&iAS, and as beginners, we are facing maybe an easy problem.
We want to design a page with a TOC and depending of the link selected, we4d like to navigate/load one element (Content Area, portletm etc..) or another.
How is this logic implemented? I mean, we don4t know how is connected one TOC element (link) with another element.
I have read something about folder link but when we select the 'access route' LOV, there is no page/portlet
selected of the one we have created.
    Help....
    Thanks...

    Beatriz,
Everyone needs to start somewhere, so its no probs. (personally I am glad you chose
Oracle Portal to start :-) )
I am going to base my thoughts on 3.0.9. If you want an out-of-the-box solution (i.e no coding), create a navbar, which contains the folder links as images. Each folder has an image (edit folder properties->image). This way you can make the navbar portlet quickly. The problem with this approach is, what if I have sub-folders and I don't want to navigate all the way to the folder to find the one I am interested in ? Also,
maybe you want to retain a website look-and-feel, or you would like to allow a user to customize (or personalise) the TOC, well you can't do that with a navbar portlet. Examples of a site which uses this approach is www.tomatoland.com.
    Debugging Login
Re: Windows 2003 EE vs RedHat EL
The links above have the source for a vertical TOC builder. It dynamically builds a TOC, using a starting folder. You can use the same logic for pages. I used a dynamic page, since I needed a solution in a hurry. I would suggest that you rewrite it as a portlet. This way you can implement a customizable TOC. The basic code will remain the same.
In case of cruzroja.es, the solution could be as simple as an HTML portlet. I have given some URLs below, which give you examples on how to build TOC (horizontal and vertical). In my opinion, a vertical TOC can be reused on all pages. A horizontal TOC limits the amount of links that you can have. An HTML portlet is easy to build, you can use MacroMedia Fireworks, or DreamWeaver, or any such tool (I give the names as products as exmples only, no promotion intended, of any sort) to create the TOC. you can then copy and paste the HTML code. The problem with this approach is maintenance, hence my suggestion that you write a portlet.
I would suggest that you use pages, with folder portlets in them. Create a TOC based on pages. This is a much easier approach. I'll try and post the code for a folder bread crumb-type navigation (Folder1->Folder->2...this is called the bread crumb).
Hopefully, I did not confuse you. Let me know if you run into any problems.

  • Work-around for lack of cut and paste for files in finder

I am new to Mac and have observed some past but closed discussions about the annoying lack of cut and paste in Finder. I too find it very time-consuming to move a file into the folder where I want it to live - especially from downloads. Using a MacBook Pro 13", my open windows are naturally on top of each other and using drag and drop with a touch-pad for file organisation is very cumbersome. Four finger behaviour on touch pad only helps so far.
The approach I adopt is to use cmd c to copy the files or folders in question. cmd ` to flick between finder windows (usually more than one is open) and cmd v to place the files or folders where I want them after navigating through to the destination folder. Shift cmd N gives me a new folder if required. cmd ` takes me back to source folder (usually downloads) so I can cmd delete the files and keep things tidy. This is lengthy to write down. It is however reasonably quick if your fingers know the keyboard shortcuts.
Is there a more efficient way for me to work around this inhibitory feature of Finder? "Save as" is only good if you know you have a folder in your file structure already created and named and suitable to receive the file you want to file away (usually an attachment to an email).

This is in reply to your last paragraph...
This is the Mac OS default Save As... dialog:
Notice that there is a downward pointing disclosure triangle to the right of the Save As: field. If you click on the disclosure triangle, a full Finder window will be exposed, and this will enable you to place downloaded files wherever you like.
Notice, also, that in the bottom left hand corner of the exposed finder window, you are able to create a new folder (in any location on your system) to which you are able to download files.
This works the same way in any Save As situation, using any app, and the app you are in will remember where you last chose to save a file so that repetitive navigation in these dialog boxes is somewhat reduced.
