Replace function  and  ORA-00932 Help

Hi ,
We have field name PARAM of type LONG
values of PARAM are :
1)345
2)[email protected]
3)http://ghf.hq.fde.com:9211/psp/VADEV/EMPLOYEE/FIN/c/
4)kennedy
I am getting ORA-00932 Inconsistent data types expected number got LONG when i ran below SQL .
update tbl_parms set param = 'http://efs.hq.def.com/psp'
where param like 'http%';
Please someone could help in fixing this error .
Also ,I am interetsed to just replace http://ghf.hq.fde.com:9211 with http://efs.hq.def.com
can we do with REPLACE or SUBSTRING functions ? the length of URL may vary .
bye,
Kar

You can't refer to LONG columns in WHERE clause
"LONG columns cannot appear in WHERE clauses or in integrity constraints"
see http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/appdev.920/a96590/adfnstyp.htm#435338
You should think about migrating from LONG to CLOB. But in the mean time, the easiest solution may be to
- dump tbl_parms into a file
- delete the lines you don't need to change
- edit the rows you want to change using an editor (regular expressions will help your search and replace):
- apply as an update script eg
UPDATE TBL_PARMS
SET PARAM='the complete value for a parameter'
WHERE PARAM_ID=3Are any of your parameters longer than 4000 chars? If not, consider simply making a version of the table with PARAM varchar2(4000) andupdating there, using REPLACE, SUBSTR etc.
create table new_params
( id number not null, param varchar2(4000))
begin
  for x in (select id, param from tbl_parms)
  loop
      insert into new_params (id, param) values (x.id, x.param);
  end loop;
end;

  • SQL, PL/SQL functions, and ORA-04091 table is mutating

    Dears,
    Recently a question came up in an Oracle French forum about an insert/select that is throwing ORA-04091: table xxxx is mutating, trigger/function may not see it error in 11g while the same insert/select was working very well in 10g. The original poster gave a scenario that is easily reproducible. I am wondering what database release is correct the one throwing the error(11g) or the other one accepting the insert/select(10g)?

  • Replace function and '-' character

    Hello,
    How can I use '-' character in a REPLACE function?
    create or replace procedure zd authid current_user as
    begin
    execute immediate ' create table select ZDK
    Replace(SO_HEADER.ZDNUMBER,'' - '','' '') from so_header';
    end zd;
    Thanks a lot,

    Hm. I don't see that you want to replace the minus "-". If you truely ment the underscore "_" then you are right. Sometimes it must be escaped since it has the special meaning of "any single character" (same as the ? wildcard for microsoft users). However this is only true for the LIKE operator. Not for the REPLACE function.
    examples (non dynamic)
    select SUBSTR(Replace('123\456\789\', '\'),7,7) from dual;
    789
    select SUBSTR(Replace('123_456_789_', '_'),7,7) from dual;
    789The escape keyword in not allowed anywhere inside the replace function.
    What was your intended input and output?
    Just a recommendation. You don't need to specify the third paramater if you just want to remove the search string.
    And your insert statement is not dynamic. If you don't create the table dynamically then you can simply write the insert statement inside pl/sql without the need to make it dynamic. This would make testing and debugging much easier!

  • Case expression and ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes

    I m trying to use the following case condition
    select
    case
    when
    count(exception.exception_number) > 1
    then 0
    else
      ENTITY_TYPE_DEF.NAME
    end as NAME
    In table exception , exception_number has a varchar2 datatype. My requirement is such as if the count of exception number is more than 1 , it should show 0 (integer ) and if not then show name column (varchar2) from table entity_type_def .
    My query fails with following error
    ERROR at line 7:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got CHAR
    Please could someone suggest a workaround for above issue.

    Whatever is the data type of the first case result, it expects all case results to be the same. The first part of your CASE returns 0 which is a number, it expects the second part to also return a number but it returns a string. Hence the error. You can fix it by returning a string in the first part of your case which you do by putting single quotes around your 0.
    CASE WHEN count(exception.exception_number) > THEN '0'
    ELSE entity_type_def.name END

    No! You cannot plot a function unless you can solve it (either analytically or numerically).
    Do you have an image of how it is supposed to look like?
    What are typical ranges for I and V?
    Do you have a link to a website that explains your application?

  • Find and Replace text and change font help needed.

    I am completely new to Scripting and I'm sure this is quite simple but I do not know where to start.
    I have a FM template that is populated with "raw" text from a database.
    Within the text are several characters (+, @, *, $, # and %).
    I need to replace these characters with symbols from a different font e.g.:
    Each instance of:
    "+" to be replaced with Wingdings 2 font - Lowercase t
    "@" to be replaced with Wingdings 2 font - Lowercase u
    "*"  to be replaced with Wingdings font - Uppercase E   etc.
    I would like to automate the process and believe a script would enable me to do this.
    I have tried looking on the forum, but can not find anything suitable to help me (or I'm looking in the wrong place).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    not really
    important is the Illustrator Text Object-model, which is not very easy to understand.
    And the Core JS String and regExp Objekts.
    Have a look at this:
    http://www.ogebab.de/home/skripte/text/replace
    The dialog is poor (because of compatibility) and it works simply on TextFrames.contents, i don't know if this is good i all cases.
    But i use it not very often so i don't want to rewrite it.
    Maybe it is a starting-point for you.
    But maybe it is more then you need.
    try this:
    //select a text
    var text = app.activeDocument.selection[0];
    var string = text.contents;
    string = string.replace(/ /g,"  ");
    text.contents= string;
    / /g is a regular expression
    .replace() is a method of the String Object

  • Javascript functions and Extendedscript -- newbie help

    I am new to the Photoshop scripting world and starting with a basic script to gather folder names and then remove the path. When I use the code below ESTK throws an error that labs[i].substring is not a function. That I know, it's not...but it is valid javascript. Need an explanation please.
    Thanks
    #target photoshop
    //Sizes Tab
    //Lab Drop-down menu
    var labSets = Folder('~/Desktop/Template Hub/');
    var labSets = labSets.getFiles();
    //Create Array containing Lab names from folder names
    var labs = labSets;
    for (i=0; i<labs.length; i++) {
        var v = labs[i].substring(labs[i].lastIndexOf("/")+1);

    labs[i] is a file or folder object. Strings have a substring method. You could convert the file/folder to a string but I think it's better if you use a file/folder porperty. Something like this...
    #target photoshop
    //Sizes Tab
    //Lab Drop-down menu
    var labSets = Folder('~/Desktop/Template Hub/');
    var labSets = labSets.getFiles();// this get all file and folders
    //Create Array containing Lab names from folder names
    var labs = [];
    for (i=0; i<labSets.length; i++) {
        if( labSets[i] instanceof Folder ){
            var v = decodeURI(labSets[i].name);// decodeURI deals with spaces and other such chars in the folder name
            labs.push(v);

  • Function and DB Link Help

    Hello,
    I get the error "invalid column name" when trying to call a function from a SQL statement. The function resides on a seperate server than the SQL statement, but both servers are connected by a DB Link, and the proper synonyms and pragmas are used. If I run the SQL statement on the same server (even under a different account/schema), it runs fine.
    I'm using the following syntax:
    SELECT etc. FROM etc. WHERE
    synonym_name.function_name = etc.;
    Has anyone encountered such a problem? Are there any explanations for this error?
    Thank you very much.

    In the where condition, r u using the synonym name of the db link alon g with the column name ...if so don't give the synonym name just use the column name alone....

  • Bib-9509 and ora-00932

    The cube view throws these exceptions when I create a hierarchy that includes levels specified by columns with different datatypes. Two of them are numbers, one char. This is farely legal, isn't it? I have created another number column and mapped the char values to numbers. The cube view works now without any exceptions. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance.
    Marek
    using Oracle 9.0.2.5, the bi_checkconfig tool reports no errors

    Cube Viewer is part of the database so I would recommend posting your question on the OLAP section of the database forum.

  • Replace '&' with 'AND'

    Hi All
    I am creating a XML file with a procedure.
    It works fine but when i want to open it gives the error bcos of '&'
    For that i want to use the escape(is it right)
    like for description field how can i query to replace '&' with 'AND'
    can anyone help me in quering it as well
    Please let me know
    Thanks
    Mandar

    There's no need to replace the ampersands with 'and'. Encode them before adding them to an XML:
    target_string := dbms_xmlgen.convert('string with an & here', dbms_xmlgen.entity_encode);And use "entity_decode" when you're reading from the XML.

  • ORA-00932 Error using 11g and the SDO_RELATE function. Works fine in 10g

    Hello,
    If I run this query in Oracle 11g:
    SELECT M.FID, MAX(M.VERSION) AS VERSION
    FROM SW_PB.A_ROADNODEINFORMATION M, SW_PB.ROADNODE N
    WHERE M.REFERENCETOROADNODE = N.FID
    AND M.NODEVERSION = N.VERSION
    AND M.CATALOGUEID <= 477
    AND MDSYS.SDO_RELATE( N.GEOM, MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY(2003,81989,NULL,MDSYS.SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1,1003,3),MDSYS.SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(120000,0,160000,40000)),'MASK=ANYINTERACT QUERYTYPE=WINDOW') = 'TRUE'
    GROUP BY M.FID;
    I get an error regarding the N.GEOM field. The error is as follows:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got MDSYS.SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY
    The same query runs fine on a 10g database with the same data. I've even truncated the N table and still get the error. I've rebuilt the index but it makes no difference and the metadata is exactly the same for this table as it is for other tables that are involved in a similar query.
    It looks like a bug to me but just wondered if anyone else had come across this?
    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Thanks for the reply. I'm really sorry but I haven't created trace files like this for a very long time and have forgotten the best way to read them. This is the start of the trace file, any help with reformatting it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Peter.

  • List View Report with pipelined function in Mobile application and ORA-01007: variable not in select list

    Hi!
    I have a problem with List View Report in mobile application (theme 50 in apex) after updating to apex 4.2.2. I created Report -> List View. I used select from pipelined function in Region Source. Then when page is running and submited three times (or refreshed three times) I get an error:
    Error during rendering of region "LIST VIEW".
    ORA-01007: variable not in select list
    Technical Info (only visible for developers)

         ORA-06512: at "APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_DISP_PAGE_PLUGS", line 3220
    I get this error only when I use select from pipelined function in Region Source (for example: "select value1, value2 from table(some_pipelined_function(param1, param2)) ").
    You can check it on http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=50591 (login - demo, password - demo).
    In this application:
    - I created package TAB_TYPES_PKG:
    create or replace PACKAGE TAB_TYPES_PKG IS
    TYPE cur_rest_r IS RECORD (
        STR_NAME          VARCHAR2(128),
        INFO              VARCHAR2(128)
    TYPE cur_rest_t IS TABLE OF cur_rest_r;
    END TAB_TYPES_PKG;
    - I created pipelined function TEST_FUNC:
    create or replace
    FUNCTION TEST_FUNC
    RETURN TAB_TYPES_PKG.cur_rest_t  PIPELINED IS
    r_cur_rest TAB_TYPES_PKG.cur_rest_r;
    BEGIN
    r_cur_rest.STR_NAME := 'ROW 1';
    r_cur_rest.INFO := '10';
    PIPE ROW (r_cur_rest);
    r_cur_rest.STR_NAME := 'ROW 2';
    r_cur_rest.INFO := '20';
    PIPE ROW (r_cur_rest);
    r_cur_rest.STR_NAME := 'ROW 3';
    r_cur_rest.INFO := '30';
    PIPE ROW (r_cur_rest);
    r_cur_rest.STR_NAME := 'ROW 4';
    r_cur_rest.INFO := '40';
    PIPE ROW (r_cur_rest);
    r_cur_rest.STR_NAME := 'ROW 5';
    r_cur_rest.INFO := '50';
    PIPE ROW (r_cur_rest);
    RETURN;
    END TEST_FUNC;
    - I created List View Report on Page 1:
    Region Source:
    SELECT str_name,
           info
    FROM TABLE (TEST_FUNC)
    We can see error ORA-01007 after refresing (or submiting) Page 1 three times or more.
    How to fix it?

    Hi all
    I'm experiencing the same issue.  Predictably on every third refresh I receive:
    Error
    Error during rendering of region "Results".

    OK
    I am running Application Express 4.2.2.00.11 on GlassFish 4 using Apex Listener 2.0.3.221.10.13.
    Please note: this works perfectly using a classic report in my desktop application; however, no joy on the mobile side with a list view.  I will use a classic report in the interim.
    My region source is as follows:
    SELECT description AS "DESCRIPTION", reference AS "REFERENCE" FROM TABLE(AUTOCOMPLETE_LIST_VIEW_FNC('RESULTS'))
    The procedure:
      FUNCTION AUTOCOMPLETE_LIST_VIEW_FNC(
          p_collection_name IN VARCHAR2)
        RETURN list_row_table_type
      AS
        v_tab list_row_table_type := list_row_table_type();

          END LOOP;
          RETURN(v_tab);
        END;

  • ORA-00932 while using nvl with trunc function

    What happens when trunc is executed on null?
    I am executing the following query:
    "select nvl(trunc(null),sysdate) from dual"
    and this throws "ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got DATE, error at Line:1 Column:23".
    Whereas "select nvl(null,sysdate) from dual" returns sysdate correctly.
    Also "select trunc(null) from dual" returns null only. So when the returned null is passed through nvl why am I getting exception?
    This is happening in ver 9.2.0.5.0 and 10.2.0.2.0
    There is another observation, which is an issue that we have found in our code, and while trying to fix that we saw the earlier observation.
    SELECT * FROM orgs, dual where
    trunc(SYSDATE) between trunc(orgs.effective_start_date) and nvl(trunc(orgs.effective_end_date),trunc(sysdate))
    Here effective start date and effective end date for orgs are null for all records.
    When we run this query on ver 9.2.0.5.0, this runs without any exception. But when we run this query on ver 10.2.0.2.0, we get the same exception, "ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got DATE, error at Line:2 Column:95".
    The join with dual is fake, in actual scenario we have join with other tables, but since we are able to replicate with dual, removed all other details to keep this simple.
    Now if we remove the join with dual, the query works fine in both the env.
    SELECT * FROM orgs where
    trunc(SYSDATE) between trunc(orgs.effective_start_date) and nvl(trunc(orgs.effective_end_date),trunc(sysdate))

    What happens when trunc is executed on null?
    I am executing the following query:

    Also "select trunc(null) from dual" returns null
    only. So when the returned null is passed through nvl
    why am I getting exception?
    This is happening in ver 9.2.0.5.0 and 10.2.0.2.0The first parameter to NVL is determining the expected datatype of the returned column, with the trunc function defaulting that to NUMBER because it's parameter is NULL. The second parameter to NVL needs to match that datatype which it doesn't because it is a date.
