Replace get_magic_quotes with what?

I've read that get_magic_quotes will be deprecated in upcoming php versions. I've used Dreamweaver CS3 for a long time but now it seems it is time to learn how to replace the code that will be adversely affected when php6 comes out. No sense waiting.
Can someone tell us which code is affected, where in DW CS3 it is found and what we're going to have to do to replace it? I have a LOT of pages with inserts, GETS POSTS and COOKIES which may be affected and I'm eager to get a start on the change over.
And could you be very specific please.
Thank you.

Hi Gramps
I have an experimental extension available from my web site that enables one to use php::pdo with DW CS4/5+, (sorry Brian does not work with CS3).
The extension was produced to help people to learn to use pdo and does contain a few bugs when one tries to use it for more complex sql statements, but it does work and produce valid code.
I stopped development due to my free time being eaten-up with other projects, and added to that there was little feedback. But as it has been downloaded over 2500 times in the last 3 years, the lack of feedback could be taken as the extension doing what it was designed to do, (I also have another extension that enables one to see stored procedures in the database panel, so if anyone is interested in this extension let me know, it does contain a few bugs though).
The pdo extension and some badly formatted documentation can be downloaded from - http://www.pziecina.com/design/dreamweaver/pdo_extension.php
The badly formatted documentation was cause by me having to quickly add a note that the extension was free, as I found that some unscrupulous people were selling it.
Although the extension is for learning pdo, I do use the code as produced by it on my site.

  • Replace tcp_wrappers with what?

    I use a very simple home network system using sshd and scp. Basically I have sshd running on all 4 home computers and then I use /etc/hosts to list the IP addresses and hostnames of each computer. I then use /etc/hosts.allow to allow the sshd deamon access to my base network address, so that I can login to accounts I know the password for from any computer on the network.
    Being as tcp_wrappers has been deprecated can anyone suggest anything as simple as what I am doing to replace what I presently have?

    Alright, so ufw seems to be the weapon of choice to replace tcp_wrappers.
    Before removing tcp_wrappers, my /etc/hosts.allow file was empty while and /etc/hosts.deny had only one thing in it like "ALL:ALL".
    It turns out I had previously installed gufw, a GTK GUI front-end for ufw (the CLI wrapper for iptables), and now it is all starting to make sense!
    Gufw is super simple to use. This is what the tcp_wrappers' default functionality (as determined in the hosts.{allow/deny} files) looks like when replaced with Gufw:
    You can also use kcm-ufw in KDE if you don't have Gnome/GTK.
    Its all pretty straight forward and there's no need to mess with configuration files or terminal commands.
    Now, let me make sure that its working. There must be some location where iptables (manipulated through ufw which is manipulated by gufw) reads its configuration. Let's find it...
    The configuration file is located here: /etc/conf.d/iptables.
    Mine looks like this:
    # Configuration for iptables rules
    IPTABLES_CONF=/etc/iptables/iptables.rules
    IP6TABLES_CONF=/etc/iptables/ip6tables.rules
    # Enable IP forwarding (both IPv4 and IPv6)
    # NOTE: this is not the recommended way to do this, and is supported only for
    # backward compatibility. Instead, use /etc/sysctl.conf and set the following
    # options:
    # * net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
    # * net.ipv6.conf.default.forwarding=1
    # * net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding=1
    #IPTABLES_FORWARD=0
    Hmmm, after changing the "incoming" setting to "allow"
    my configuration file still looks the same:
    # Configuration for iptables rules
    IPTABLES_CONF=/etc/iptables/iptables.rules
    IP6TABLES_CONF=/etc/iptables/ip6tables.rules
    # Enable IP forwarding (both IPv4 and IPv6)
    # NOTE: this is not the recommended way to do this, and is supported only for
    # backward compatibility. Instead, use /etc/sysctl.conf and set the following
    # options:
    # * net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
    # * net.ipv6.conf.default.forwarding=1
    # * net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding=1
    #IPTABLES_FORWARD=0
    I wonder where the settings are applied. Both of the .rules files are non-existent still, by the way. Anyone know?
    EDIT 8/31/2013 3:08pm: A simple execution of `locate .rules | grep ufw` will show you all the .rules files on your system.

  • Dead(?) hp JetDirect ex PLUS = LJ 4ML; fix or replace - and with WHAT?

    Dear fellow Mac addicts --
    Some months back, various helpful souls (notably Greg Sahli) set me straight on the way to get my old serial-port hp LaserJet 4ML to be able to print from my two Tiger-Macs. For the past months, I've had an eBay-bought hp JetDirect EX PLUS Print Server hooked into an eNet switch into which both my Macs are networked. The serial side of that Print Server was connected to the LaserWriter 4ML. I managed to get the JetDirect EX PLUS's IP address set properly (again thanx to Greg Sahli!) and both Macs were able to print nicely to my old workhorse. We also have an Epson elCheapo for color. But that was then...
    A week ago, we went on vaca and in prep therefor, I powered down the entire LAN, even going so far as to unplug the cable from the cable modem. Probably for the first time since I'd reset the JetDirect EX PLUS's IP addr, I powered it down by disconnecting my UPS from the mains and turning it off.
    Everything has come back online just fine, save for the JetDirect EX PLUS and the ability to print to the LaserJet 4ML. The latter printer can print all its self-test pages and its serial input is plugged into the JetDirect EX PLUS. The LAN switch is hooked into the JetDirect EX PLUS's RJ45 plug and the LEDs on the switch itself indicate that a slow-speed Ethernet connect has taken place on that plug.
    "This is curious," I thought, "because if I remember correctly, resetting the JetDirect EX PLUS's IP addr is supposed to be semi-permanent across power cycles."
    I reset the JetDirect EX PLUS to factory default by the means described in its manual. Holding down the TEST button for more than 3 seconds results in the pattern of LED activity described in the manual, also.
    The problem is that a brief depression of the TEST button, while the JetDirect EX PLUS is directly connected to the LaserJet 4ML, does NOT result in the latter producing a test page describing its various settings, including its now factory-reset IP address. [I'm satisfied that the LaserJet 4ML is OK, since it can produce its own test pages -- its internal electronics and paper transport are OK. It's unlikely that it is the serial plug or cable that has deteriorated over the last week.]
    It therefore looks to me (and please check me on this and ask for any further tests or info) that this JetDirect EX PLUS managed to degrade while powered down over my vaca, and that it is DEAD.
    I suppose I can buy another JetDirect EX PLUS on eBay... but should I?
    I need cheap black-and-white laser-quality printing as well as the Epson color printer I have on my system... the faster the better...
    The moderately expensive ($~60) print cartridge on the LaserJet 4ML was on its last legs anyway.
    If this were your situation (and your JetDirect EX PLUS was indeed DEAD), would you buy another JetDirect EX PLUS and use it to resurrect the old workhorse LaserJet 4ML (whose cost by now has been completely recovered over the last >10Years!), or would you just chuck the lot and buy a new CHEAP PER PAGE, moderately fast (>5PPM) laser(-quality) printer with a more modern network interface? I think that I could part with $150ish for such a beastie.
    So may I ask you which new printer would you recommend, and why please? Thanks for any cycles you can spare.
    AL-PowerBook G4, hp JetDirect EX PLUS => HP Laserjet 4ML   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   30GB iPod Video (5thGen)

    Yipes, Peter Ragone1! That's some high-priced (for me) printer ya got there! I'm envious of its capabilities, and I guess I'd be OK with dispensing with duplex if need be...
    IIRC we paid a cool thou for that LaserWriter 4ML a heckuva long time ago (>16Yrs back)... Not too bad for a guy who first used "Dover" laser printers back in the 1970s when they cost $1M and the US Government bought 'em for us (while PostScript was being invented by a friend); and who also bought the first "vaguely corporately affordable" laser printer for his company, for about $100K in the late 1980s...
    I hear you about flimsy modern construction. If I can't find something that looks durable I may just spring for another JetDirect EX Plus and keep the ol' LaserWriter 4ML workhorse going until it craps out finally. After all these years, its page-count is still only about 21,000 -- so we're not a heavy-usage site by a long shot!
    I'd say that my min requirements are shaking down to be
    * >300x300 resolution (might as well improve)
    * Network connectivity (RJ45 Ethernet)
    * PostScript (not emulation)
    * $200 or less
    * B&W (I imagine color laser to be way too expensive)
    * 10 PPM or better
    * Cheapest cost/page
    * Doesn't break if you look at it crosseyed
    Nice-to-haves:
    * Large paper capacity (I think the 4ML holds about 250 sheets, about .5")
    * Duplex
    Not needed:
    * Envelope printing
    * Color (that's what the Epson elCheapo's for)
    =====
    Starting to seem like Brother HL-2070N might be best, if it passes the crosseyed test and does PostScript... anyone know about whether it does .PS? I'm betting not because Adobe are notorious moneygrubbers and probably charge printer manufacturers a pretty penny for on-board PostScript interpreters...

    There is no way to stop iTunes from doing exactly what it is designed to do.
    The iPhone is designed to sync with one and only one computer.
    If you have moved/copied your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, then iTunes wiping your device is no problem.  You would simply sync and iTunes will put all the content back.

  • HT1719 I have music on my Shuffle and want to transfer it onto iTunes but when I go to Sync it, it warns me that all the music on my Shuffle will be deleted and replaced with what's on my iTunes. I have a new mac-mini and my old computer was an HP.

    Can anyone tell me how to tranfer the music that is on my Shuffle to iTunes? • Mac Pro 3,1 - did my hard drive die? And what should I replace it with?

    Hi,
    I inherited my late husband's 2008 Mac Pro (3,1 model) which had 2 x 500GB hard drives in it and 6GB of RAM. I filled the remaining hard drive bays with 1TB drives (I take a lot of video so needed the extra space). The boot drive was partitioned 50/50 in Boot Camp. I've upgraded the RAM to 10GB and I am currently running Lion.
    Today, while doing something as innocuous as scrolling down a web page, the bottom half of my screen went black and the top half began flashing wildly. When it  stopped after several seconds, the mouse would not respond and I could not click on anything. If flashed a bit more, and then I had mouse control back but could not click on anything - web links, applications, finder. After waiting patiently but getting nowhere, I powered the machine down manually, and when I re-started it, it failed to boot. The chime sounded, the apple appeared, and the little revolving wheel, but at the point where the screen would normally go blue then display the desktop, it just went white. The fans spin, but otherwise it's very silent.
    I tested with a second display, got the same issue. I tried booting to recovery mode but it went back to the white screen. I could start in target mode, and there were no issues with flickering screen, so I don't think it's the graphics card. Then I tried browsing to the hard drive over the network, but it wasn't showing on the PC network page, nor could I connect to it via the home theater system, which I can normally do as the streaming app launches on start-up. I am assuming this means the drive has failed? It's the original, and we bought the machine when they were new to the market, so is a good 5 years old. It contains not only the boot drive but my documents, photos, websites, selected videos, all of which are backed up on the Time Capsule, and I was in the process of uploading to cloud backup as well (although not very far along, due to data cap and slow international upload speeds). I had no warning it was about to do this, but then I guess sometimes you don't!
    Assuming I need to replace the drive, would it be worth replacing it with an OWC Mercury Electra 480GB SSD in an Icy Dock sled? Or would that be overkill for such an old machine? Would getting a standard 7200 WD Caviar HDD or similar give me enough of a speed boost? Obviously I am rather enamoured with the idea of a blazing fast SSD but I'd have to import it (not available locally) so I don't want to shell out all that money unless it's really going to make a massive difference.
    Is there anything else I would need to know about using an SSD over a HDD? I assume I would fire it up the normal way - install it, boot from my Snow Leopard install disc (I downloaded Lion from the App Store) format it, clean install SL, then re-update to Lion, then restore my Time Machine backup? Am I likely to experience any weird issues due to it being an SSD? I see talk online of firmware problems and something called TRIM that I don't know anything about. If it's most likely that I can install it and rock on as normal, then I'm pretty keen, but if there's a reasonable probability of it being temperamental, I probably wouldn't be willing to deal with that (and therefore go the HDD route instead). Therefore I am very keen to hear people's opinions and experiences.
    Sorry for the terribly long ramble. The more I have researched this, the more questions it raises! All advice gratefully accepted. Thanks!

    more than likely it is your video card. If it is ATI 2600XT, tell it bye-bye. The card is barely used at all in TDM or Safe Boot Mode. The 2600 and Lion and the issues with that card, even if it seems okay, is not.
    Depending on Windows OS as to how it mounts and sees your Lion HFSX (there is a nice HFSX driver from Paragon, and an NTFS driver for Lion too)
    480GB SSD is overkill for any system unless you are pushing CS6 2-3GB images and then for scratch. All you need for a boot drive is about 100GB.
    If you have an SSD now, then 1) you need to do a full image backup and restore (regularly as maintenance), and 2) TRIM Enabler
    Save Lion and you can always do a clean Lion install w/o going back to SL - but you might want to keep SL (dual boot) and handy if you run into anything you still need that required PowerPC/Rosetta
    FBDIMM RAM dies, Amazon has $32 kits of 4GB. And having all 8 DIMM slots filled improves things. If you need or want to and feel 16GB isn't overkill.
    SSD and issues are always possible. you should not just go along. not without a clone image. And you should have another drive w/ TRIM Enabler so that you can do a repair and "trim" what is needed.
    Clone a system with CCC regularly. Bootable. And can also be used by Setup Assistant.
    Install Lion over a heavily used SL system and there are likely remnants of old things that get in the way and left in there and not removed.

    See:

    Basically you will have to transfer its contents to the new computer and then restore the iPod and then resync. An iPod can only sync to one iTunes library.

  • Can I replace CUA with CUP. If not why or what will be the risks

    Hi,
    The client does not want to have two provisioning systems CUP & CUA. The sole purpose they are using CUA is the proper accounting for SAP licenses such that the user ID remains the same across the landscape. No other purpose of using CUA. In this case can I replace CUA with CUP 5.3 SP12.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sanjeev

    There are limitations to doing that.
    CUA has a technology focus and does not take access risk into consideration at all. The long-term successor of this would be Netweaver Identity Management. If you want to consistently manage user master data and license information, that's probably the solution to look at.
    You can perfectly use CUP on top of that to manage authorizations. You can also force CUP to only allow user IDs from a central system like CUA or ActiveDirectory in order to enforce user ID consistency.
    What CUP will not do is give you an overview of where a user is maintained with which kind of information/license data. That is something that either CUA (for ABAP only) or Netweaver Identity Management will give you.
    Frank.

    If you want Google as your homepage, open Safari.
    Type  www.google.com   in the address bar
    Then tap the action icon (box with a right facing arrow just to the left of the address bar).
    Then tap:  Add to Home Screen
    That you can access your homepage directly from your Home screen.

    Pacman tells you what the default option is by capitalizing it (Y). You would want a good reason to ignore pacman's recommendation...
