Replacement of Test Db with Production Db

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what I should expect to break when I replace our Test db with a new copy of the Production db?  Please note, I am NOT touching the Web db at all.  I noticed the first time I did this, the parts images no longer displayed on the website.  I am not sure why this was.  If I looked at the Media area for a part, the image filename was still there but the image would not display on the website until it was reselected and resaved.  I would not have expected this to happen.  Once we are ready to go live, are we going to have to reselect all of the images for each part again??  I cannot believe that would be the way this is going to work.
I guess, in short, what could possibly break on the website from simply restoring an updated SAP database so our test db which is synching with the web db is more aligned with the production data so we can continue to tweak things before going live?
Thanks,
David

Hi James,
As per your instructions, this is what I did this evening.  I made a backup of our Production database and restored it over top of our Test database.  I opened Synch Manager and did an Initialize, then a Synch.  When I opened the website, the images were again missing.  If I go into a part under the Admin - Catalog area, the part still had the Additional Image link but the Image Path itself had been cleared out.  All of our images are in the //assets/catalog/parts folder as you noted they should be.
Any other ideas why we would lose the main images?  As I mentioned before, we need to get this resolved while we are still in our testing phase - we cannot afford to lose all of the image links once we switch the database to go live.
Thanks,
David

  • How to handle refreshing TEST schema with PRODUCTION schema ?

    - we have database 10g ( standard edition), database name : ABC
    - Schema name: ABC.PRODUCTION (which is our production schema)
    - Schema name: ABC.TEST (which is our testing schema, where developers work)
Both the production & Test schemas exist in the same database.
Now once a week I wanted to refresh TEST schema with PRODUCTION data
Here is what I have been doing all these years:
=> Take a logical backup (EXPDP) of PRODUCTION schema (prod.dmp)
=> Drop user TEST cascade ( i don't need a backup of this TEST schema)
    => Create user TEST
=> Import PROD.DMP data into TEST schema
All the above 4 steps are being done manually.
    Questions:
    ======
    1. Is there any easier way of doing the above steps using some tool ?
    2. Does Oracle enterprise manager which comes free with database installation (http://localhost:118/em)
has any utility or tool to do this job ?
    3. I want everything to be refreshed (all database objects including data) ?
    Thanks

This is crazy. One inadvertent typo and you'll overwrite your Production schema. Plus, what happens if a developer 'tests' against the test schema and slows the Production database to a crawl.
I presume you know all about this, though and can't make the case to management. I hope it's not a business-critical Production database!
Anyway, your method is decent. I would advise against doing it automatically, to be honest, especially when your system is so precariously set up. But if you exist, you could use encapsulate all the steps into a script and use crontab to automate the process. I, personally, wouldn't use DBMS_SCHEDULER as you have to be careful with priorities and workload sometimes (at least in my experience) and you might end up having your export/import clash with other jobs in the system if you don't pay attention.
Here are the steps I would use:
Create a 'create user' script for the test schema based on dynamic SQL. That way you can be sure you have all the grants necessary for the user, in case things change.
Drop the test user (use EXTRA caution and be defensive when coding this part!)
Export the schema using FLASHBACK_SCN to ensure you have a consistent export
Run your 'create user' script to create the test user
Import the schema with a REMAP_SCHEMA option (use EXTREME caution with this!!!!)
    Compile invalid objects
Compare objects and exclude any recycle_bin objects. Send an email alert if the object counts are different.
Compare invalid objects. Any objects which aren't invalid in Production should be flagged up if they're invalid in test.
Again, it's absolute insanity to have a test schema in a Production database. You absolutely must insist on addressing that with management.

  • Possible to test Dev Transaction with Production data in eCatt?

    Hi,
I am new to eCatt but got the impression that it was possible to test your transactions in dev with the data in production, presumably through an RFC connection.
    Is this at all possible?
    Thanks,
    Will

    Hi Will,
with RFC your are right, but your direction of thinking is wrong.
eCATT lets you develop testscripts in one (central test) system and execute them in and against other systems.
Means, you can write your scripts in a Solution Manager and then execute it via RFC connections against ERP-development
or ERP test system with their specific ERP data.
Please take a look into the eCATT [Online Help|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/d0/e3933f09a5fb47e10000000a114084/frameset.htm]
Hope that helps to understand better distributed testing.

  • Replacing camera audio with production audio (separately recorded)

    Hello,
I'm halfway through an edit for a client, and they'd like to replace the camera audio with their separately recorded audio files. Unfortunately, the time code of these audio files doesn't match the video, so I'm going to have to sync each master clip using slates.
The thing is, this project has a ton of cuts. It's one thing to sync up each shot using slates, but it's entirely another matter to manually sync each individual cut, as a given shot might have four or five jump cuts within it.
How do I replace the audio in my master media files such that my timeline (current edit) utilizes the synced master files?
    thanks

You could close your current project.
    Create a new project.
Import all your video files that need audio replaced.
    Import the new audio files.
Put each video track onto the timeline, alter timeline tc to match the original file, and sync new audio to them.
Export each one as a new file, in a new folder, with the same name as the original.
    Close project.
Move original files to a new location, or put them on an external drive and take it offline.
Open original project and reconnect to the new files.

  • M175nw during s/w reinstall - unable to communicate with product

Windows 7 64-bit / LaserJet 100 MFP M175nw / firmware 20120806 / all device resets done / software uninstalled after broadband hub replaced / re-install undertaken with McAfee firewall OFF / install undertaken with D-Link hub firewall also OFF
Software starts reinstall, proceeds and then asks for USB to be temporarily connected - after doing so it automatically proceeds (thus indicating that it's communicating OK with M175nw) - says "Product has been detected" - WIndows 7 reports "device installed" - then install stops at 15% completion and says "Unable to communicate with product".
Can find no way past this.
Was working beautifully but could not avoid hub upgrade which had to disrupt setup hence re-install.
    HELP!

    Hi @MonicaABC ,
I see that you are having issues the same issue with the printer installation, but you are on Windows 8.
I would like to help you out today.
Some of the steps are the same, I will provide more information for the Windows 8 steps.
I have also provided steps for configuring the wireless through the ethernet connection.
On the printer's control panel, touch the setup button, network setup menu, wireless direct, turn it on.
Here is a document to access the Wireless on Windows 8. How to Connect to Wireless Networks in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
    Select the printer's network name.
Open Internet Explorer and type in the IP address (192.168.223.1) for the printer in the address bar.
This will load the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Select the networking tab, wireless on the left hand side.
Fill out all your network information, select infrastructure, select your network name, put in password and type of encryption.
    Apply settings.
Now the printer should be configured over the wireless network.
Then go to the wireless on the computer and select your network name.
Run the uninstall from the CD software to remove any registry files.
Disconnect the USB cable if it is connected.
Perform a clean boot and disable any Antivirus Software temporarily.
Then run the latest drivers. Software & Drivers.
Select your operating system, click next and click on the software to download and install.
Wireless setup steps through a Ethernet connection steps:
Connect the Ethernet cable from the printer to the router, temporarily.
Run the install to see if the drivers will fully install by this connection.
Follow these steps to configure the wireless now.
Wait about a minute, print the configuration page to see if you get a IP address.
    Printing a Configuration Report.
Then type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar to bring up the printer's web page. Select the networking tab, wireless on the left hand side. Fill out all your network information, select infrastructure, select your network name, put in password and type of encryption. Apply settings.
    Then disconnect the Ethernet cable.
Wait for few minutes and you should get a wireless light on the printer, print the configuration page and check the IP address again. Then type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar to bring up the printer's web page. Just to make sure it is still on the network.
Then flip the port with the new IP address.
Go to start, devices and printers, right click the printer and left click printer properties, select the ports tab.
Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
Type in the proper IP address for the printer.
Make sure the printer is online.
    Test the printer.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!

  • OpenScript to replace E-Tester

    Guys,
OpenScript, a new scripting platform is released which will eventually replace E-Tester scripting platform. Currently, it is in beta and supports scripting HTTP(S) protocol. It is really cool and easy than using E-Tester..everybody by now knows that E-Tester is a pain in the ***. We still have to use E-Load for load/stress testing, once the script is created in OpenScript.
So go ahead give it a shot...you will love it.

    Hello,
I am trying to build a report that will display all the opportunities and the product revenue records where the currency on opportunity records do not match the corresponding currency on the related pportunity product revenue records.
    Any suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Nitika

    Nitika,
Create a report with opty currency and opty product currency, open the formula for opty product currency and copy the field value. Add a filter to opty currency, change the operator to not equal to for the value put in 1 select advanced - convert to sql, replace the number 1 with the value of opty product currency so yu have a filter that says opty currency not equal to opty product currency

  • How do I copy whole farm in 2013 Test to 2013 Production or is this more trouble than worth?

    Hi,
We are migrating from SharePoint 2010 farm to a TEST SharePoint 2013 farm as Microsoft recommend. The test farm is almost complete. The Host Url Site Collections under the main Web Application all use a Sharepoint UAT prefix style name i.e. SUAT<unique
name>. I want to be able to move everything from TEST farm to Production in one foul swoop i.e. Service Applications. How can I do this - farm-backup? Or should I update the Service Applications and restore my Host Url Site Collections without prefix with
powershell script I have or is this more trouble then it's worth.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
Step 1 is straight forward; you are upgrading content from the 2010 to the 2013 version.  I agree with the recommendation to move to a testing environment as a best practice.  However, setting up your pre-production and moving the content there
    will save effort.
Moving content and containers between 2013 test to 2013 production is a matter of copying and attaching databases.  The trick is the farm level configurations, as they cannot be easily "copied."  There are some steps to save effort, for
instance the Term Store can be exported (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/PowerShell-for-SharePoint-a838b5d0).  However you really need to plan for building two sets of service applications.
Also, make sure you plan for deploying any Apps or Features between test and production.
There are 3rd party tools to simplify this, my firm has a tool DocAve Deployment Manager.  But before taking the plunge on any of this additional effort, be sure that using a pre-production farm is not best for you.  This
is especially true if it will be offline until after the full migration.
    Hope this helps,

Hello. My mac pro early 2008 restarts after sleep mode and it works slower. I tested it with apple hardwear test and it seems to be ok. Thank you.

    Try this:
clone your system and repair it with Disk Warrior instead
Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current.  Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old.  Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.

  • Unable to communicate with product message when installing laserjet cp1525nw printer

I have a cp1525nw wireless printer that use to work fine wirelessly.  I changed my router password (linksys router) and now can't connect.  I have tried changing the password back to the original password and it still will not connect.  So I when back to the changed password.
I have tried resetting the printer to the default settings, removed all HP software, deleted all temp files, rebooted machine and attempted to reinstall the printer.  The software loads fine, I've connected the USB cord and then get the dreaded "Unable to communicate with product" message.  I have previously tried to connect by WPS and that didn't work either.
The Wireless Network Test Report shows that the Network Name Found test is Fail.  The Network Summary report shows a different Network Name under the wireless Network Configuration section than my network's SSID.
What do I need to do?

    Hello,
I see that you are having issues setting up the printer over the wireless network. I will certainly do my best to help you.
The password might not be recognized by the printer, if there are spaces or special characters in it.
Restore the printer defaults. Press the OK button, select Network Config, then select Restore Defaults.
Print a configuration page to make sure the SSID and the IPv4 address are cleared.
    Printing a Configuration Report.
Run the printer software again and select Add a Device to setup the wireless again.
If you are having issues, then uninstall and reinstall the software to configure the wireless.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
If you still have problems, then from the Font Book menu bar, select
              File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

  • Material determination with Product selection

    Hi SAP Gurus
We are using material determination with product selection. The process is that customer will send in one product in a sales order. At the time of doing ATP we have to look for about three or four possible alternatives and confirm that alternative which has the highest stock level depending on the ATP situation. We have configured material determination with SAP standard substitution reason’0006’ to take care of this. The problem with this is that this creates two line items in sales order as the item substituted is shown as a sub-item of the material entered. We do not want to have two line items in a sales order for this. Is there a way we can do material determination with product selection (Based on ATP) and have the item substituted replace the item entered in a sales order? In other words we do not want to see two line items in a sales order. The substitute item should simply replace the original item and the material entered could be stored in field VBAP-MATWA. I have gone through all the standard SAP documentation which clearly states that in order to material determination based on ATP we have to use outcome A or B both of which create a sub-item.
I was wondering if there is any workaround or if there is any user exit in which we can replace the original item with the substituted item?? Any help or any direction will be highly appreciated.
Another question is if we were to use APO for doing global/Rule based ATP is it possible to get rid of the double line items. We have also tried to use rule based ATP in APO and use product/location substitution in our sandbox system to see if we can get back only one line item. But even in that case we do get a sub item. Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated. You can also send me an e-mail at [email protected]

How can I copy test plan WITH ITS RESULTS (PASS/FAIL) to other project in MTM??

    Hi odedn,
Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
Based on your issue, you mean that you want to copy the test plan with test results from the current team project
to other team project, am I right?
If yes, as far as I know that when we copy test plan with test results to other team proejcts. It is default that
there just will not copy the test plan with test results (pass/fail) to other team project in MTM.
You can refer the following MSDN document’s
