Replacing the same value in a string with varying values

If I have a string:
"%s is the %s I am referring to"
and - I want to replace the %s occurrences with DIFFERENT values... what's the best way to do this.
I was thinking parsing it into seperate strings using substr and instr but, I'm not sure if that's overkill or not.
Replace is ideal but - it replaces every occurrence so - you can state just replace the first occurrence with one value and the second with another (i.e. if the desired result after replacing the above string was supposed to be "This is the string I am referring to"
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Explain how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.3.0).
See the forum FAQ {message:id=9360002}
I was thinking parsing it into seperate strings using substr and instr but, I'm not sure if that's overkill or not.Depending on your requirements, you might need to do that.
Replace is ideal but - it replaces every occurrence so - you can state just replace the first occurrence with one value and the second with another (i.e. if the desired result after replacing the above string was supposed to be "This is the string I am referring to"As you said, REPLACE changes all occurrences. There's no way to tell it (for example) to change only the first one.
REGEXP_REPLACE, is a lot more flexible. It does have an option for giving a specific occurrence, but you may not even need that feature. You might just want something like
REGEXP_REPLACE ( '%s is the %s I am referring to'
            , '(.*)%s(.*)%s(.*)'
            , '\1This\2string\3'
)It all depends on your data and your requirements.
Are the new values (such as 'This' and 'string') fixed, or can they change from row to row?
Will you always have 2 (or some known number) of '%s's in the original string?
Does '%' always signal something that is to be replaced? If not, how can you tell when it does and when it doesn't?
Does 's' always come right after '%'? If not, what are the possibilites, and what do the different characters signify?

  • Replace the first character in a String with blank

    String a = dgramRsp.getAddress().toString();
a = a.replace('/','');The problem with the first statement is that it returns an ip address with a '/' in front of it. Like so.../192.168.0.190
I need to get rid of the '/'. The replace won't work because it wants a character between the ' '. Thanks for your time.

I had to think about it for a sec but yes you're
    right.
    InetAddress a = dgramRsp.getAddress();
    String b = a.getHostAddress();
substring(1) would have worked, too, but it would have been redundant (removing a previously added slash).

  • How to pass multiple query string values using the same parameter in Query String (URL) Filter Web Part

    Hi,
I want to pass multiple query string values using the same parameter in Query String (URL) Filter Web Part like mentioned below:

But it always return those items whose "Title" value is "Arup". It is not returned any items whose "Title" is "Ratan".
    I have followed the

    Please suggest me.

Hi DH, sorry for not being clear.
It works when I create the connection from that web part that you want to be connected with the Query String Filter Web part. So let's say you created a web part page. Then you could connect a parameterized Excel Workbook to an Excel Web Access Web Part
(or a Performance Point Dashboard etc.) and you insert it into your page and add
a Query String Filter Web Part . Then you can connect them by editing the Query String Filter Web Part but also by editing the Excel Web Access Web Part. And only when I created from the latter it worked
with multiple values for one parameter. If you have any more questions let me know. See you, Ingo

  • How to replace the char values into numeric in my string?

    Hi Friends,
I would like to Replace the Charecter values with numeric value in my string.

I mean How to replace the char values into numeric in my string?
    Thanks,

    Hi Sridhar,
I would like to Replace the Charecter values with numeric value in my string.
Exp : first in my string I am having the value like this : 'ABCD1234' ( may be any char and num values ), and I want too get it by '99991234'.
So, if i understand you correctly, you want to replace all characters in a string with 9 as in the above example, irrespective of position of the character, if so try with the below code.
    DATA: l_str TYPE string.
    l_str = 'ASKHSIUDNSBDKJSDH124312431243124saasdfsf'.
REPLACE ALL OCCURRENCES OF REGEX '\D' IN l_str WITH '9'.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
WRITE: l_str. "Result will be 9999999999999999912431243124312499999999

  • Replacing the old value with new value on the website

    Hi ,
I have two input fields CLIN # and PR#.When i enter the text, for the first it is working fine, second time when i enter it is replacing the value which i enter with the first one.I should not replace the old value.
    ex:
Example when i enter test5 for the first time
    CLIN # :Test 5
Next when i enter Test6 ,this value replaces the first one
    CLIN#: Test6
    CLIN#:Test6(there is no test5)
I am doing for my istore application.Any ideas

As the user that created the anonymous block ruun:
    select count(*) from general_acct_mast_table;
    and
select tbaadm.count(*) from general_acct_mast_table;I strongly suspect that they are actually two different tables, and the tbaadm version is substantially larger that the non-qualified one.
In any case I would not be doing this as a row-by-row procedure. I would create two lookup tables like:
    create table masked_general as
    select acid, foracid, round(dbms_random.value(81000000,85000000)) masked
    from (select distinct acid, foracid
          from general_acct_mast_table
          where acct_ownership not in ('O'));
    create table masked_stmnt as
    select * from masked_general;
alter table masked_general add constraint masked_general_pk
       primary key (acid);
alter table masked_stmnt add constraint masked_stmnt_pk
primary key (foracid); Then do the updates as:
    update (select g.foracid, g.acid, gm.masked
            from general_acct_mast_table g
               join masked_general gm
                  on g.acid = gm.acid)
    set foracid = masked;
    update (select s.foracid, sm.masked
            from mini_stmnt_details_table s
               join masked_stmnt sm
                  on s.foracid = sm.acid)
set foracid = masked;Note that this assumes that both acid and foracid are individually unique in general_acct_mast_table, which seems to be implied by your procedure, and that you want to be able to roll the whole thing back if there are problems (that is, you do not want to commit between the update of general_acct_mast_table and mini_stmnt_details_table).
I would also probably a a verification step after creating the first masked table to ensire that you did get unique vluaes back fo the masked column.

Say there is a string -  "abc's def's are alphabets"

    "abc&apos&s def&apos&s are alphabets" .
Kindly let me know how this requirement can be met.

    REPLACE
    Syntax Forms
    Pattern-based replacement
    1. REPLACE [{FIRST OCCURRENCE}|{ALL OCCURRENCES} OF]
    pattern
              IN [section_of] dobj WITH new
              [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE]
              [{RESPECTING|IGNORING} CASE]
              [REPLACEMENT COUNT rcnt]
              { {[REPLACEMENT OFFSET roff]
                 [REPLACEMENT LENGTH rlen]}
              | [RESULTS result_tab|result_wa] }.
    Position-based replacement
    2. REPLACE SECTION [OFFSET off] [LENGTH len] OF dobj WITH new
                      [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE].
    Effect
This statement replaces characters or bytes of the variable dobj by characters or bytes of the data object new. Here, position-based and pattern-based replacement are possible.
When the replacement is executed, an interim result without a length limit is implicitly generated and the interim result is transferred to the data object dobj. If the length of the interim result is longer than the length of dobj, the data is cut off on the right in the case of data objects of fixed length. If the length of the interim result is shorter than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length are filled to the right with blanks or hexadecimal zeroes. Data objects of variable length are adjusted. If data is cut off to the right when the interim result is assigned, sy-subrc is set to 2.
In the case of character string processing, the closing spaces are taken into account for data objects dobj of fixed length; they are not taken into account in the case of new.
    System fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
0 The specified section or subsequence was replaced by the content of new and the result is available in full in dobj.
2 The specified section or subsequence was replaced in dobj by the contents of new and the result of the replacement was cut off to the right.
4 The subsequence in sub_string was not found in dobj in the pattern-based search.
8 The data objects sub_string and new contain double-byte characters that cannot be interpreted.
    Note
These forms of the statement REPLACE replace the following obsolete form:
    REPLACE sub_string WITH
    Syntax
REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO dobj
            [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE]
            [LENGTH len].
    Extras:
    1. ... IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE
    2. ... LENGTH len
    Effect
This statement searches through a byte string or character string dobj for the subsequence specified in sub_string and replaces the first byte or character string in dobj that matches sub_string with the contents of the data object new.
The memory areas of sub_string and new must not overlap, otherwise the result is undefined. If sub_string is an empty string, the point before the first character or byte of the search area is found and the content of new is inserted before the first character.
During character string processing, the closing blank is considered for data objects dobj, sub_string and new of type c, d, n or t.
    System Fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
0 The subsequence in sub_string was replaced in the target field dobj with the content of new.
4 The subsequence in sub_string could not be replaced in the target field dobj with the contents of new.
    Note
This variant of the statement REPLACE will be replaced, beginning with Release 6.10, with a new variant.
    Addition 1
    ... IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE
    Effect
The optional addition IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE determines whether byte or character string processing will be executed. If the addition is not specified, character string processing is executed. Depending on the processing type, the data objects sub_string, new, and dobj must be byte or character type.
    Addition 2
    ... LENGTH len
    Effect
If the addition LENGTH is not specified, all the data objects involved are evaluated in their entire length. If the addition LENGTH is specified, only the first len bytes or characters of sub_string are used for the search. For len, a data object of the type i is expected.
If the length of the interim result is longer than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length will be cut off to the right. If the length of the interim result is shorter than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length are filled to the right with blanks or with hexadecimal 0. Data objects of variable length are adapted.
    Example
After the replacements, text1 contains the complete content "I should know that you know", while text2 has the cut-off content "I should know that".
DATA:   text1      TYPE string       VALUE 'I know you know',
text2(18)  TYPE c LENGTH 18  VALUE 'I know you know',
            sub_string TYPE string       VALUE 'know',
new        TYPE string       VALUE 'should know that'.
REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO text1.
REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO text2.

  • About give from one query to other the same value of a variable

    Hi Gurus,
my problem is About give from one query to other the same value of a variable, i have a wad with a view, and this wad has some bottoms in javascript to go to anothers wad with charts, the problem is when i ran the query one, i put a value = calyear:2008 (Obligatory Variable), but when i click the bottom to go to the other query with the same variable, he ask me again a value,
i want write a value just one time, and the others wad can recieve the first value that i put when the wad opened.
    i really need it , thanks !

    Hello Jorge,
What you need here is Replacement path variable. Check out this link for more details:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/bd/589b3c494d8e15e10000000a114084/content.htm
In the second query where you need the value (calyear:2008 from first query) create a Variable for calyear of type Replacement path, in Replacement tab you can select either query or variable by which it has to replaced. In your case, it has to be variable from the first query.
Do let me know if this works. If this does not work I suggest you to use Web APIs to replace the variable values using Web APIs. Check out the details:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/29/4d15422ecce02ce10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    Hope this helps.

  • YTD and accumul. depreciation have the same value when dpis is 2 years ago

    Hi all
I am using FA and i have some problems. I have just setup this module and now i want to migrate assets in the system. The customer gave me an excel with the following fields that want to be in the system like: asset cost, accumulated depreciation, date placed in service, ytd accumulation and so on.
    the problems are:
    1) when i want to enter new asset manually the ytd depreciation and accumulated depreciation are required to be equal. ok so far, i register new asset on test environment and when i enter the date placed in service for example two years ago (because that is the real date placed in service of the asset) and run depreciation, the system has calculated correctly the accumulated depreciation, but has calculated the same value even for YTD depreciation which is not true, because in this case accumulated depreciation and ytd depreciation are completely different. how to solve this problem? How can i put correct values in this fields?
    2) when i enter these assets directly in the fa_mass_additions table according to the fixed assets user guide, i have the following errors: when i put "ON HOLD" on queue name, and open these assets on the system, the on hold field has no value (is empty)
When i try to run post mass additions, the report is not finding the parameter (book) because the system is giving en error message telling me that there is no value in this list of values
please help to solve this problems because i am not being able to migrate assets for the company.
    Thank you and best regards

You may have different Color Settings, and if you use Pantone you should be aware that the whole interpretation has changed (a number of times, most radically recently).
If you say more, more can be said.

  • Retrieve the same value for all rows

    Hi Folks,
I am a newbie to Kodo JDO. I have a little but important problem. I use a
query to retrieve data with a simple filter like PName=='A'. Normally it
should retrieve 3 rows with 3 different values but it does not. Instead I
got 3 rows but with all the same value of one row???
Do I have a configuration problem?? Oh, I forgot, I use postgresql 8.0 on
    Windows...
    Thx a lot....
    Juergen

    Hi,
You may want to turn on the SQL log (use the kodo.Log property, and set
the SQL channel to TRACE... for more details on logging, check out
chapter 3 in the Kodo Ref Guide) and see what SQL is being generated.
Once you see the SQL, does it look right? If you run the generated SQL
in your SQL command line, do the results match what you expect? If that
doesn't help, maybe post the SQL and some info about your mapping.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • How to update table J_1IPART1,without replacing the old values

    Helllo Friends
    Problem:
When I capture the  excisable document in T-code J1IEX, the table J_1IPART1 does not  get updated ,but when I do the good receipts by 101,then entry in the above table get updated ,by replacing the  previous entry.
What should I do so that table J_1IPART2 hold all the captured values without replacing the old values.
And after what time of interval do I need to update the register, is it on daily bases or on monthly bases

    Try these steps:
    1. Post MIGO without excise entry
    2. J1I5 - Update register for RG23A Part1 with classification ROP.
    3. Post excise Invoice through J1IEX
You should update the register on daily basis.

  • All AI channels have the same value - NI PCI-6221 and NI PCI-6229

    Hello,
I use the example aiex1.cpp for a multichannel AI read with the mseries devices 6221 and 6229.
This example works for one channel, but the other channels have the same value (+- 0.001 Volt difference).
For example: I set 5Volt on the first channel and then the other channel have 5Volt too.
What should I consider in the configuration?
    Please, can someone help me?
    Best regards,
    Heiko
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Heiko,
Like Moritz, I'm curious what signals you have connected to your AI channels. What voltage do you expect to read on each channel?
Tom gave me your initialization code and it looks like you've modified aiex1.cpp. Does the example work without any changes?
I have some more questions that will help me determine where the problem could be coming from, but these two are the easiest. We'll keep getting more and more specific as we remove possible causes.
