Replacing vectors with better collection

Hi,
My Netbeans IDE is giving me a hint that vectors (which I am using to build custom table models from AbstractTableModel) are obsolete.
What should I replace vectors with, or what collection should I use to build custom table models, any example will be appreciated.

I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives.

NO. You will have to spend a good deal of money to get a high FPS machine and those aren't cheap to get.

How to create Vector with reference to Collection

hello experts,
can someone let me know how to create vector with reference to Collection interface.
Collection is an interface. and we cant create an instance of it. i'm not clear of what to pass in that constructor.

what are the possible objects of 'c'

Replace color with transparency?

Hello,
Using the Replace Color Tool, I can't find transparancy as the new color. Am I doing something wrong? If not, would there be another way to replace a color with transparancy in Fireworks? I have Fireworks 8 (and I love it).

Great question. I have to admit, I've never used the Replace Color Tool—I didn't even know it was there.
Initially, I thought you might have been referring to the Find panel, which is useful for replacing colors with vector objects. It, too, lacks support for transparency. There is a trick you can do to force the transparent (or "None") swatch to appear: In the hex code input of the Color Picker, add a "0" to the end of the 6-digit hex code. The problem is, this won't actually work to replace the color with transparency; once you try to apply it, the color reverts to its previous value.
If you're working with bitmaps, your best bet might be to use a bitmap selection tool or command, and then once the color is selected, just use the Delete key to remove it. If working with vector objects, remember that you can always select multiple objects and then use the Properties inspector to adjust the fill or stroke color of all the selected objects at once. Also, using Symbols can allow you to edit just a single object and have it affect multiple instances.

Replace solid with shape?

I have a solid with some expressions and effects etc on it and I want to replace it with a shape layer so I dont have to start again but I cant find a a way to do it. If I create a shape it doesnt show in the project panel like solids do for some reason so I cant alt drag it onto the solid. The reason I want to replace it is becauase I want to use the built in effects that the shapes layer has such as trim paths etc. Is there a way to do this?

Ok thanks. Also i noticed when I create a shape from an illustrator layer it doesnt keep the graphic styles or clipping masks etc. Is there a way to convert this information?
No. That's inherent in the process. If you want this, you'd have to use the AI file as it is or rebuild al lthe stuff natively inside AE. the rest is too vague and I'm afraid you are getting too worked up on that vector thing. As far as AE is concverned a layer is a layer and there is no requirement whatsoever for them to be shape layers otehr than perhaps a better sharpness and quality with vector artwork. Otherwise simple nested comps will do just fine, though you should get used to the fact that you will have to use some keyframes to get them to do what you want them to do. Whether those are on expression parameters for a wiggle() or on the layer's transform properties directly to me makes not much of a difference.

How Do I Restore the Old Backups.backupdb in Time Machine. It Replaced It With a Reinstalled OS's Backup.backupdb But Time Machine Is Still Filled at 1.9TB of 2TB

Hi. I fresh installed Mavericks but I didn't transfer my files from Time Machine coz' I was going to do it manually with (folders like documents, pictures mainly) when it asked (before it lets you boot to the Finder) but as soon as I chose to let the freshly installed Mavericks use the Time Machine with the old backups, it replaced it with a new Backups.backupdb. The good thing is the old backups seem to still be there because, the freshly installed OS X is only around 11GB but the Time Machine is 2TB yet it's filled with 1.91TB (only 90GB freespace).
Is there a program to somehow see these old backups, so I can backup it manually copy and paste to their respective folders on the newly installed Mavericks? Or a Terminal command to make that possible, let me see the old back ups (I hope it's just hidden, retrievable)? I've switched off Time Machine for now coz' there's not much to back in the newly installed Mavericks.

Thank you. It's all back to normal (took around 7 hours on the late 2009 iMac). Time Machine's become better now compared to the last time I used it to migrate everything automatically (Snow Leopard days). With Maverick's Time Machine, it's almost like a cloning (except for the password) tool now. But it's always great to name the account and maybe the hardisk the same names so can just replace a newly installed OS.

It was easy to do prior to mavericks using system preferences (language and text), but now I can only submit a 2 letter word to replace, not a 1 letter word. I have tried using a space but it doesn't allow that. I would assume that most people would love to be able to type quickly without having to make uppercase I all the time (first world problem i know), so I can't understand why apple have removed this feature.

There is the shift key, or text replacement approach, providing you have enabled two things:
Edit > Substitution > √ Text Replacement
System Preferences > Keyboard > TextClick + to add a replacement
Replaceii[spacebar]
With
I[spacebar]
Press return
Quit System Preferences
Now, when you type ii, you will see a pop-up offering I.
In the OS X App Store, search for WordService. This free collection of Services will enable you to just type your content, select it, and then choose the Service item, “Initial Caps of Sentences.” It does what it says.

Replacing Drive with a 500 gig 5400 RMP Drive

I have a 2008 macbook pro with a 200 gig drive. I would like to replace it with a 500 gig 5400 RMP drive.
Q: Does anyone have any favorites that:
1 - fit inside correctly (some models are the wrong size)
2 -DOES NOT have any of the recent drive firmware issues like:

As far as I can tell the clicking issue is intermittent. If you get one that clicks, you can it exchanged under warranty.
The heat issue in 7200 rpm drives is a question people ask before they install a 7200 rpm HDD. (Incidentally, this question was raised about 5400 rpm drives when going from 4200 rpm drives.) I am not aware of any evidence that the 7200 rpm HDD is significantly hotter than 5400 rpm drives, and, as you may know, the perception of heat is often relative to the user. In any case, I would not worry about a heat issue with a 7200 rpm HDD.
As to which brand to buy, that is a tough call. Be sure that you buy a drive that does not have GForce that will interfere with the MBP's SMS system. Hitachi is usually a safe bet. Seagate makes excellent drives, but some people have complained about issues with the 500 GB HDD. Remember that whatever brand you buy there is a possibility that your drive may be defective. In the final analysis it's your decision.

Use Powershell to replace text with image in Word document

I have a powershell script that uses a Word document as a template to create signatures that I am pushing out to my organization.
The document is populated with text formatted the way I want the signature to look, that I then do a FindText and ReplaceText on. This works fine for replacing text with text, but I can't figure out how to properly replace some of the holder text with
an image and a link. I found a few posts about adding images to word documents, but none that seem to work properly in this scenario.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Illustrator saving vectors with different attributes than assigned prior to saving

I am having a problem whenever I save a document in Illustrator.
Near the edges of the page, I am placing a few rectangular vectors filled in only with black.
When I save the image as a .pdf, two of these get changed.
One on top, and one on bottom, at the exact same x placement.
Prior to saving, they are all completely identical with the same attributes.
I even deleted the old ones, replaced them with new ones, which I copied from other marks that were not messing up, and saved the .ai file as a .pdf again, but to no avail.
Please help as I have no idea what to do to fix this.
I have tried unchecking save as an illustrator editable file, save with layers, etc.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That letter 'l' looking thicker is a known issue with a PDF file... as you've noticed, it clears up when you zoom in and also, it doesn't print like that...

Replace comma with dot

Dear all,
I'm getteing mad with the following issue and need your help.
I'm working at a PDF-Form including a table. The Values in this table create a datamatrix. This works fine for now.
Here is my issue: The values in the table are numbers like 12.2 but also 12 or 9 but maximum two digits in front of the "."(dot). Seperation character should be a "." In Germany there is the ","(comma) instead of the "." at the number block.
For better usability it would be nice having a java script that replaces onBlur all "," with a ".". So I don't have to change the keyboard language to English.
Is this possible and if yes, how?
I am an absolutely noob on javascript, so please be patient and do not expect any specific knowledge.
What I tried (menue is translatet from the German version, I don't know if it is correct:
onBlur.replace(",", ".");
I put this in (right click on form) -> properties ->action ->
add action: on mouse exit
choose action: run JavaScript
click on "add"
Then I copied the terminus from the top in the opening window. Ready (at least this was my thought...)
It dit not work, now I nedd your help.

The solution was much easier than expected:
when you open "properties" by right clicking on the form, go to "validation" NOT "action" (make sure you are in the form editing mode: "tools" -> "forms" -> "edit")
then chose "run user defined script" and click on "edit"
type in the following line:
event.value = event.value.replace(/\,/g, ".");
click "OK" and then "Close"
Then you are done. Now, when you leave the form field Acrobat checks if there is a comma and replaces it with a dot.
For me this was the easiest way to make it work.

Die Lösung war einfacher als gedacht.
Öffnet man "Eigenschaften" mit einem Rechtsklick auf das Formular, muss man "Validierung" und nicht "Aktionen" auswählen. (man muss im Formulareditierungsmodus sein: "Werkzeuge" -> "Formulare" -> "Bearbeiten")
dann unter "Benutzerdefiniertes Validierungsskript ausführen" auf "Berabeiten" klicken.
Im Editorfenster folgende Zeile eingeben:
event.value = event.value.replace(/\,/g, ".");
Über "OK" und "Schließen" zurück zu den Eigenschaften
Das war's. Nun ersetzt Acrobat im Formularfeld jedes Komma durch einen Punkt.
