Report 2D table spanning several pages

I've created a report (using a script) that creates two 2D tables. The number of entries in each table depends on user input (timespan and number of channels), so I don't know how many pages the report will span across.
Is there a way of automaitcally exapdning the report to the number of pages required?
If not, what would be the best approach for solving this issue?

Hi salte,
Here's an example of what Walter is talking about that uses 2D tables instead of 2D graphs.

  • Long continuous passages -- spanning several pages

I am trying to set-up my iWork for a booklet, but am having problems.
On each page, I need three basic sections for text:
    1) MAIN BODY - I've got a bunch of text that I want to drop here that would not fit on one page, but I'd like it to run over to the next page's MAIN BODY and so on.
    2) RIGHT-LEFT BORDER COLUMN - I've got running commentary on the side of the main body, that I also want to span several pages.
    3) BOTTOM FOOTNOTES - At the bottom of each page, I want a text box for footnotes. This does NOT need to span several pages.
And finally, after getting a page set-up for this... how do I save it as a template?
Thanks in advance to all those who help me... I hope!

    Hello Brad,
for the booklet you need a two sided page layout, I think. So set the option "Facing pages" in the "Document" inspector under the "Document" tab panel to active. Now set number fields in the "Document margins" section in the same tab panel so you have the width of the main text column covering the main text area and the commentary area. You don't need the header or the footer so set both to "0". In the "Layout" inspector you have to set the "Layout margins" "Outer" number field to a value, so you have the space for your commentary column and enough width for the main text area.
Now the next layout part that is missing is the commentary column. This we have to insert as a fix positioned textbox on every page.
So show the first page and make sure the text cursor is not visible (or you will insert the textbox into the text are where the text cursor is visible, what we want to avoid). Now be sure the snap tool is active (the last two options in the preferences window). Insert the textbox and place and resize it to fit the room you need for it. Now deactivate the text wrap for this textbox in the "Wrap" inspector with the option "Object causes wrap".
Now the last area, the footer. You only have to insert it when you need this footer or you will have an empty textbox on every page. I think you want to have it's width from the outer border of the main text area to the outer border of the commentary textbox. So insert a textbox with no shown textcursor and place and resize it for your needs. Make sure this footer textbox is in the front level (menu: "Arrange/Bring to Front") but normally every new inserted object will be placed in the top level. For this textbox the wrap option has to be set so it wraps the text of the main text area and of the commentary area. That prevents the footer text from covering the other text. Now insert the text you need, and if the text will began to overfill the box, go in the layout mode for that textbox (click once outside and once inside of it), grab the middle handle at the top border and resize it so you can see all text.
If the main text area will be full, Pages creates automatically a new page to contain the overflowing text. This will not be the case for the commentary column, because it is a textbox. You will notica a small rectangle containing a plus sign at the bottom border, if this textbox will be overfilled. To see this hidden text, do a double-click into the blue rectangle near the bottom of the right border of the textbox. A new textbox with the same size will appear on the next page, containing the text that don't fit into the textbox of the previous page. You only have to place the textbox aside the main text area.
So that is one layout appearance for the booklet, but you can have a none facing pages document as well. I think after this little tut you will be able to do the layout you need.
To save this as a document template, use the menu item "File/Save as Template...". If you want to have a section template for inserting different sections with the same layout (like with the menu item "Insert/Pages/") we will answer this in a new post, because this box will overflow soon as well.
And if there are more questions (because my explanations are not understandable), feel free to ask.

  • How do I make a table span multiple pages?

    Hello,
My team and I use a Pages doc with several tables in it. The size of these tables (i.e. the number of rows in the table) change every week. Before upgrading to Yosemite, whenever a table extended beyond one page it would continue on the next with the same headers as the original table. For some reason, the tables now instead"shift" to the next page once the number of rows becomes too much for the current page.... That is unless it is the only table on on the page, in which case it will perform in the desired manner. However, if there are multiple tables on a page, the table will move to the next page, leaving a big blank space where it used to be. I have tried playing with the "Arrange" area to no avail. I can make the table float and create a new table on the next page once the rows become too numerous, but this is not ideal. Has this feature been removed from the new pages or am I just not looking in the right place?
    Thanks,
    mFuture

Use Pages '09. Pages 5.5.1 is a lost cause.

  • How do I make a one row table across several pages?

    Hi,
I would like to create a one row two columns table, but to have this table with text flow on several pages.
But I don't know how to do this. If I enter many lines of text, the table will not go on next page, and the extra lines are lost somewhere in the void.
I can do this in NeoOffice though, and in MS Office too.
    Thanks

    Hello Julien,
yes, I believe I can help your brother with a solution. First set your document to a two column layout in the layout inspector in the "Layout" tab panel. It's good to see the layout guides and hidden signs for better layout creation, so make them visible (menus: "View/Show Layout" and "View/Show Invisibles". To have an appropriate distance between the the rows of text, set the number field "After" at the bottom of the same panel to a value so the distance is ca. 1,5 line spacing or whatever your brother like to have.
Now write the text you want to have in the left column. To place the translation in the right column, choose the menu item "Insert/Column Break". Now the text cursor jumps into the right column and you can write the translation. To type the new text in the left column, choose the menu item "Insert/Layout Break". The text cursor jumps from the end of the right text under the text in the left column, and you can go on.
I know that the use of the menu items is not good for the workflow, so do the following:
Open the Sytem Preferences and choose the panel "Keyboard & Mouse". There click the tab button "Keyboard Shortcuts". Press the "+" button at the bottom of the list field. In the appearing sheed select the Pages app in the pull-down menu "Application:". If you can't find it there, use the last menu item "Other..." to search for it. Now type the EXACT menu item title in the text field "Menu Title:". Here it is "Column Break". Than activate the field "Keyboard Shortcut" and press the key combo you want to have for this function like "optionshiftc" or whatever. Press the "Add" button and repeat this steps for the menu item "Layout Break".
Close the System Preferences and start Pages. Now you can use the key combos for the break insertions.
I hope whith this your brother gets the document he wants to have. But if there are more questions, feel free to post them here.

  • How do I break a large table over several pages?

I'm sure I used to be able to show a large table (more than one page long) over several pages. Now, when when the table grows to the bottom of the page the whole table is displayed on a new page. How do I get it to break so it shows partly on one page and partly on the next page?

Not sure how to add a comment to my own question...
I am working in Pages 5. I tried to break a table over more than one page in an existing document and just couldn't get it to work (still can't). I tried it in a new document and it worked, no problem. The only thing I can think of is that I had to export my original document to Word and then had to open it again in Pages. There must have been some corruption.
I'm happy again... only wish that I could live within the Mac world and not have to deal with the PC world. Sigh.

  • Report that spans several pages

I have a 31 column report that will be exported to Excel. I am not sure how to design it since I can really only pick landscape or portrait to the page width is limited.
Should I use Cross-tabs? I have read about them but am not sure if this is the correct method.
Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated .

  • How can I make a table span multiple pages?

    Hi guys,
I really hope someone can help me out. First off I am a indesign novice. I have primarily been using indesign scripting to take other user's indesign documents and generating dynamic previews and PDFS with indesign server 2014 (it's pretty cool stuff).
Someone gave me an indesign document that has a table that starts off in the middle of the page and depending on how many rows they want the table to be it should bump the overflow'ed table rows to the 2nd page.
In indesign I have tried to link the text frames together. It looks ok in indesign as the linked content shows up on page two.
Whenever I run the script to generate the preview JPEG the table on page 1 gets cut off and doesn't render anything on page 2.
Using a script I was able to examine all the textframes on the page and none of the text frames have their "overflows" property set to true.
What am I doing wrong here? I'm sure there are a million things I'm missing but what are some of the basic things I can look for. I'm totally lost here guys.
    Thanks,
    Dustin

I'm not familiar with the script you are talking about, but if you want to make Jpegs of your pages, the best route is to export the document as PDF, and then open in Photoshop, where you can save as Jpeg. If creating Jpegs was not your goal, can you explain further?

  • Display Table on Several Pages

    Hi Guru's,
I have created a form wich contains a table (for example Faglflext), this table is very big and cannot to be displayed on only one page. But  my problem is when I do a print preview when I run the form, the table is not fully displayed, only the first page.
I tried to play with the properties of the subform pagination but I don't know which to use.
    Have you any idea?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mohamed.

    Try this...
    1. Placed the TextField inside a subform and set its Content to Flowed from Object palette.
    2. On the Field tab of the text field's Object property tab, check the Allow Multiple Lines checkbox
    3. Now again for the text Field, click on the Layout tab, check the Expand To Fit checkbox under Y:/Height
Just check what is the form type and defaults in LiveCycle Designer by going to Form Properties. The preview type and preview adobe XML form needs to be Interactive and Dynamic XML form respectively.
    Hopefully that solves your issue.
    Regards.

  • Report Layout split over several pages

    Hi,
I am trying to design a report which will print a three page application form. But I am unable to design the format of second and third page as in layout model we can design the format of single page. So, Plz advice me how can switch to second and third page while working in layout model?
    Thanks in advance, Khawar

    Extracted from Oracle Reports Help:
"A boilerplate object is any text, lines, or graphics that appear in a report every time it is run. Reports Builder creates one boilerplate object for each label selected in the Report Wizard (it is named B_columnname). For example, if a column is named ENAME, a boilerplate object containing "Ename" is generated for the column. For some report types, Reports Builder also generates lines under the labels. "
Creating a boilerplate object for text
To create a boilerplate object for text:
    1. In the Paper Design view, Paper Layout view or Paper Parameter Form view, click in the tool palette.
    2. Click and drag a rectangle.
    3. In the new boilerplate object, type the desired text.
The text you type is composed of paragraphs which are separated by new lines. Text within a paragraph is word-wrapped inside the boilerplate object's horizontal size.
    4. Click outside the boilerplate text object.

  • Problem with tables spanning multiple pages

I have used Pages early on before Numbers to track my small business expenses vs income. I use tables to manage this by clicking outside the page so it can be unrestricted by text fields but it creates a problem.
Problem: free floating tables when rows continue past the footer, don't auto format onto another page.
Needed solution: How do I format the table so it automatically formats the total bar onto the next page without changing my existing layouts?

  • How can tables across multiple pages be printed?

I've got DIAdem 9.0. I have a table on a report that has so much data it spans several pages. I can scroll through the tables with in DIAdem REPORT but I can only print one page at a time. Does anyone know how to print all the pages from script? Is there a way to print the page number like "Page 3 of 10". Thanks!

    Hi DIAdemon,
Before issuing the PicPrint() command, you can set a couple of DIAdem variables in order to control what prints:
    To print all sheets:
    PrintRangeType = "AllPages"
    Call PicPrint("WinPrint")
To print some sheets (for instance only sheets 2 to 4):
    PrintRangeType = "PageEnums"
    PrintFromPage = 2
    PrintToPage = 4
    Call PicPrint("WinPrint")
Also, you can insert text on each DIAdem-REPORT sheet that uses DIAdem variables to dynamically display page number information on each sheet:
    Page @GraphSheetCurrNo@ of @GraphSheetCount@
This will display the "Page 3 of 10" syntax that you wanted. Note that if you insert a new DIAdem-REPORT sheet, you will have to click View >> Refresh to get the page number information updated
    on all sheets.

  • How to: Print table on first page, use second page (back) for text only

Hi, I am looking for a clear document on how to use pagination and the Odd and Even pages.
We need to print a table over several pages, but only on Odd pages.
On the back of each page we need to print "Terms and Conditions". Is that possible? Can it be done without scripting
We are on ADOBE version 8.1
In the file properties, double sided is switched on, and version set to 8.1 and higher.
I created two Master pages, a FrontPage with ContentArea1and a BackPage with ContentArea2.
FrontPage is used for uneven pages, BackPage is used for the even pages. The masterpages are printed correctly (alternating properly).
Two pages were created for the content area's:
ITEMS: contains item data (table with header and footer). Place is "On Odd Page". After "Goto page BackPage". And if the table needs to be paginated it goes to BackPage with overflow leader "Conditions".
CONDITIONS: contains a textfield (Terms and Conditions). Place is "On Even Page". After "Goto page FrontPage". No overflow.
What should happen is that on the front pages the item table is printed. If there are too many lines it should overflow to page number 3 then 5 etc. All the even pages should display the text.
What actually happens is that the item table also gets printed in the content area for the Condition text...
Also the "Conditions" are not printed on the last back page. But only once before it...
    Cheers,
    Edwin.

Fixed it... After a lot of creating, deleting, playing around with pagination and the inevitable cursing...
    I have created 5 pages:
    1. FirstPage
         - Odd/Even: Odd (Front) Pages
         - Placement: First page (In page set)
    2. FrontPage (For Odd pages)
         - Odd/Even: Odd/Front Pages
         - Placement: Rest of Pages
    3. BackPage (For Even pages)
         - Odd/Even: Even (Back) Pages
         - Placement: Rest of Pages
    4. LastPage
         - Odd/Even: No Odd/Even Restrictions
         - Placement: Last page (In page set)
    5. DummyPage
         - Odd/Even: Blank pages
The 'Terms and conditions' are located on the BackPage and LastPage (as a text).
The table that is printed is (of course) located on a normal page (flowed subform).
Pagination tab: Placement = Following previous, and After = "Continue filling parent". No overflow... Basically, it's all default.
The table lines will now start on the first page and if there are more lines than can be printed on this page, it will continue in the next content area. That will be on the FrontPage.
The trick is that each master page must have a content area (mandatory). Except for Blank pages, but these cannot be used... Blank pages would only be used once, after the first page.
What I discovered is that you can drag a content area away from the Master page and attach it to a different master page.
Logically, if there is no content area on a page, then data cannot be printed there. So, I created a Dummypage. On this page I dumped the content areas from the LastPage and the BackPage. As a result, content cannot be printed anymore on the back of pages. Only the standard text (a text field) is printed there. When the data from the table is overflowing, it will automatically overflow from the FirstPage to the next content area. Which is located on the FrontPages only.
The DummyPage is NOT used anywhere.
The result is that the records can only be printed on the content areas that exist on the First and Front pages. The back pages are now skipped.
Duplex printing is now working correctly, and the text is printed on the back of all the pages.
    Cheers,
    Edwin.

  • Help me tables on Multy page InDesign

Hi everyone, I want to ask about how to align text in table from word of IndesignEmpaste into Indesign table, the table spans multiple pages, however, whenever anew row into, InDesign automatically to the new page for that row, leaving a gap on the previous page. So how do you base text for it to jump to previous page A, for along table that seats just a few pages back losses this gap is not very good.

    |      100                         |            100                   |
    Page  No. 2

    Hi Santiago,
Thank you very much for your valuable reply.
i want to generate MS-word report for TestStand after successful testing using MS-word2000.
Test report contains Actual values, Expected values and Pass/Fail status.
In my program i have customized all  fields i can able to generate test report which contains Verification engineer name , test mode, test date, start time, end time Actual values, Expected values and Pass/Fail status.etc....
To put all values of test case number, Test step number, Actual values, Expected values and Pass/Fail status in to table for each time, i will
insert a row into table every time values arrives, once the table exceedes its page size it moves to the next page, next page should start with table row header  but it start with  values of above said parameters.
so i'm not able to repeat table row header for each page.
Please find the attached file for your reference.
Attched file expected.doc  :   This file contains what i wanted to generate MS-word report. Here table row header "Test Case Number and Test Step Number " is repeated in second page.
Attached file Actual output from source code.doc   :  This report generated from the source code. Here table row header "Test Case Number and Test Step Number" is not repeated in second page.
Do you know any property to set "repeat as header row at the top of each page" using MS-word ActiveX in CVI/Labwindows.
i think this information is sufficient for you,
Still if you need some information please ask me.
    Thanks
    Susa.
