Report Builder crashes

We are facing an issue of not being able to modify the main query.
I add a space ( or make any other modifications) to the main query . This forces the recompile of the report. But the report builder crashes when we try this.
Pls any help highly appriciated.
Thanks,
sam

What iam guessing is the main query size is greater than 64 KB. May that is the case. To avoid the large query in tha data model can you pls give any other alternatives.
Thanks,
Sam

  • Reports Builder crashing

    Hi,
    I use Reports 6.
On a report, when I run it, it works once, then if I run it a second time (modifications or not), Reports builder crashes, it just closes, without any error message, and without any Windows error message either.
If I restart Reports Builder, it behaves same, I can run the report once, then the second time, Reports builder crashes.
Then each time I need to run this report I have to restart Reports Builder... (and as I need to test each modification seperately, it's annoying)
I noticed that it does that only on that report, maybe it's a problem on this report, what can cause this ?

    Hi,
Reports behaves very strange sometimes. Normally it can be corrected by undoing the last changes you have made to the report. Then compile the report. Save it. Close Oracle Reports and add the changes again.
I would try to check the names in your Data groups. Sometimes Reports can't figure out the names and puts in a 1 character after the name of the column. This can also cause reports to fall over... To solve this just remove the column and add it again.
    I hope this helps.
    Best regars
    Kenneth K.

Most likely you have something wrong in your environment settings. The best place to look is
    a. in the registery (under local_machine, then oracle, ...)
    b. path.

  • Report Builder 10 Crashing while generating to pdf

I can get a report to show all the pages in previewer mode.
However, when attempting to generate to pdf, report builder crashes at random times. Not at just one page, but whenever it feels like it.
Report is 4,000 pages, but I've ran 15k page to pdf before. And it is NOT the report, it crashes on all reports.
We've had some recent windows security updates pused to us recently, but that is it as far as system changes go.
    Environment:
    Win XP, SP3
    Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production

Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2That is the base version of Developer Suite that you can download on OTN. I would at least start with upgrading to the latest patch, especially since you connect to an 11g database.
Another thing: do you have this problem in Reports Builder, or on the application server? Latter case: check your AS version against the certification matrix too.

  • Report Builder 6i crashes while compiling

I have report builder 6.0.8.11.3, running on Windows XP SP2.
I am connecting to a 10g database and compiling a custom report.
This report was running fine in the database, i just copied to my folder and compiling from local system (connecting to the 10g server). So this is not a code issue.
After compiling 50%, the report builder crashes with this message: Report Builder has encountered a problem and needs to close. In more information, the error signature is given as AppName:rwbld60.exe AppVer3.0.0.0 ModName ora805.dll ModVer 0.0.0.0 Offset 00046d68.
We have re-installed Report Builder/Windows/Oracle client from scratch many times but not able to solve this issue.
Please let me know of any pointers in this regard.
    Thanks
    Manu

dude dude we get the same error hell of times ..its a bug in report builder ..it suddenly crashes in unexpected situations and oracle is no longer supporting 6i builders ..i think its time for you to migrate to 10g developer suite.
or else recreate the layout and try ..i have done that for many reports becuase for some reasons layout gets corrupted.
    All the best

  • Reports Builder has encountered a problem and needs to close.

    Hi All,
The report builder in my system is behaving weirdly. If I open a report, which is having a normal browser output, it allowing me to see the data model, layout model and everything. And if I open a report, which is having a PDF output, it's not allowing me to open the Layout.
Here the output is in context of Oracle Applications front-end. And as I know it shouldn't be a problem with Report Builder.
It errors out with the following message.
Reports Builder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
And the error report contains the following message.

  • Report Builder chrashes when creating a new formula column

    Dear all,
whenever I try to create a new formula column in the data model, that is placed outside of a query, my report builder crashes completely. The same happens on my colleagues notebook.
If anyone has an idea why this could happen, please let me know. I am currently using Version 9.0.4.1.0.
    Thanks and br
    Daniel

You can keep the report builder you have now. Just install the new one in new oracle home. You can download it from here
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ids/htdocs/904winsoft.html
This download has Developer Suite 10g (Report 9.0.4.0.33, Form 9.0.4.0.19, JDeveloper, Discoverer, Designer)
I don't think so you can select which product you want to install, like it was in 6i. So it will install everything.
Try to install this version. Hope this will help.
    Thanks

  • Report Builder is crashing... 6i, 9i and 10g

    Dear All,
During my experience with all versions of report builder, all versions crash from time to time when building reports.
Is there any way to get rid from this??
    Regards,
    Joe

I noticed crashing of the builder on Windows 2000 running in VM. After applying SP4 on Windows 2000 the issue was gone.
Crashing is mostly caused by wrong datamodel coding is my experience.

  • Report Builder keeps crashing

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix this.
Every so often when I am in reports builder it crashes with a memory exception. Somthing like the following
"The instruction at "0x671915fc" referenced memory at "0x000eee85b". The memory could not be "read".
and builder shuts down. In some cases I dont even get the message, builder just chooses to disappear on me. It doesnt havent all that often when I am in the layout editor. It seems to handle more when I click on a programming unit or on the data model editor.
Does anyone know what this means and how I can stop it. I have to save my report every minute or so to ensure I dont lose anything (once the report got corrupted and I couldnt even open it) and am up to version 30 already.

I had applied a patch as well to see if it would solve the problem but it did not. Cant remember what the patch number was.
I had been working with builder no problem before. On our current project we needed the minimal server as well to run the report locally. It was after I had installed the server that I stated to run into this problem. I even completely uninstalled reports builder and the server and re-installed it but it did not solve the problem.

    Hi Fang,
As far as I know, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), have no permission extension. In Reporting Services, it is use role-based security to grant user access to a report server. There are two types of roles: Item-level roles and System-level roles.
Based on my test, if we assign user with System User System-level role, the user will have permission to user Report Builder to create report. However, if we only assigned Browser or Report Builder Item-level role to the user, he/she will have no permission
to publish the report to the report server. In this situation, although user have permission user Report Builder to edit the report, it will have no effect of the report in report server. User who has assigned Browser or Report Builder Item-level role will
have no permission to delete report in the report server.
There is an article about Setting Permissions in Reporting Services, you can refer to it.
