Report Field Names
I know the answer to this one must be very simple, but I can't find it! I want to display a value from a column in a report in the report header text (this report always displays just one row). I know there is a get_value function for parameters. Can this also be used for field values and if so, what is the name of the field? I have tried a_<column_name> but this doesn't work. Any ideas??

You can refer the values of the parameters only in the additional plsql code section like this

The p_arg_names is an array of the argument names and p_arg_values is an array of argument values.

Field name not known in old existing report.
We have a report that we have used for a long time and has always been fine. Today when we open it it says data will be lost because "Field name not known". So you click ok and look at the report in design and the report is missing a bunch of fields. You look at the Field Explorer and it only shows the first field in the table. This report links 2 tables. The linking field is the first field in both tables.
I try to re-map datasource and no luck. I close Crystal, open Crystal and create a new report, look at the same tables and all of the fields are there. Create similar report looking at same datasource, same tables, some of the same fields, and it works fine.
What is wrong with the original report and why won't it connect or show fields?It may be that the report file became corrupted. Do you have a back up of that report anywhere? If not you could create a new report using the same tables and links and then have both new and old reports open and copy objects from the old report to the new report. Save it and then verify it all works as it should and replace the old report with then new report. Copy the old report somewhere safe also.

Crystal 8.5 - now 9 - report in VB6 gives "This field name is not known"
Hi,
I've got to do some maintenance on an old VB 6.0 project that had some Crystal 8.5 reports in it (DSR files).
I only had Crystal 9.0 (developer edition) available, so am using that.
Running one report I now get the error "This field name is not known".
Q1. How can I find out what field - and where in the report it is?
Q2. Is there anything special I should have done to "upgrade" the DSR/DCA and DSX files?

The reports are not "visual", they are created within a DLL that saves them as PDF's and/or prints them directly.
The reports are bound at run-time to recordsets; at design time they use field definition files (TTX). I believe I've made sure the field definitions match the recordsets that they represent.Hi,

Nothing in particular was done to upgrade the files, other than to upgrade the VB project to reference the Crystal 9 dll's and such instead of Crystal 8.5.
The Crystal reports designer does not seem to want to open a DSR file. I did find some RPT files in the project; but while the Crystal reports designer will load them it does not seem to want to save as DSR files.
The "Field name is not known" message is returned in the error raised when VB tries to run the report, and it stops the report from being built.

That's a good kbase article. I had actually guessed that was an issue and had fixed two of the three reports in this project, by dumping (to text files) the recordsets being bound to them and comparing real field names with the TTX files. (I also updated some of the custom formulas in the reports to match the proper names).
...but in the third report, I just couldn't find the mis-match; checking the recordsets, TTX files and any customisable formulas I could locate.
As for the patch - after installing it the report designer no longer works at all in VB6 - not for the reports that I had got working, nor even for a new report!
(added: actually I can't get any designer up, even the VB forms designer won't load, in a project with no Crystal in it...)
At this point I "give up".
VB Express 2008 was used to "upgrade" the VB project to .Net and then convert the DSR's to new format RPT's. They were then loaded into a fresh VS 2008 (C#) project.
I'm now at the point of trying to figure out how to put in the report events that were in the old DSR files in the original VB project (there is code in them to assign the recordsets as sources, at run time, and calculate and make available information from the report).

Field Names for Answers reports in Publisher.
I have found that the field names(xml element names) that publisher creates for datasets created from BI Answers reports are taken from the formula section of the field.
This creates two big problems.
1. The field names can be huge if you have a complicated formula in the field for BI answers. Good luck using that as anything but dropping on a page.
2. If the formula in the BI Answer report is changed in anyway the link between the field in the template and publisher is broken as publisher renames the data field name (xml Element).
Is there another layer of abstraction I can use to counter this? Some type of datafield mapping? Maybe something I can do in BI Answers?
Assume not all of my Datafields can be fixed by moving the formula to the RPD layer for calculation.
This is sort along the lines of previous thread. The method:
REPORT NAME -> Data Model -> Groups -> GROUP NAME -> Right Click on the field name -> Property Palette -> XML Tag
Does not seem to work in my version of Publisher. Or I need more help with it. I have not Groups Option.
Anyway to change the XML element nameThe closest you can get to this is importing a query from the Answers catalog into Publisher, but there huge limitations to what you can then do with it. The chances are it will not actually meet your requirements and you will end up building the query from scratch in Publisher.
Publisher isn't always as easy to use as it might seem, I would urge you to look at the examples on OTN and follow the tutorials to get a better idea of what is possible, there is too much to explain through the forum.

Crystal Report Windows Forms Viewer error: "The field name is not known"

My report runs fine in the Crystal Reports viewer. When we try to view the crystal report through a piece of 3rd party software, I start to get errors in a few of my formulas indicating that "the field name is not known". I can clearly see that the field is in my crystal report. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on what might be happening?

I've used this for many other formulas and not had an issue with them. I've verified that the database and the stored procedure contain this field. -

but for me it is not possible to send the form, the form consists of lot of blocks and again i have to send you SQL scripts to generate respective blocks etc. if you can think of it with example block A with 20 fields, and block B with a field multi record block, here i want to populate all A.20 field names into B. again the fields in A are differentiated with Visual ttributes 2 types. here i want to restrict the list to a perticular VA.

How to find the field name of variable system information on SAP B1
Hi All,
I recently wanted to create a simple SQL query to list all ITEM MASTER DATE where the weight is blank. This is so i can get a list of all items with the weight information missing from the system to investigate.
It turns out the weight field within the SALES DATA tab is a system variable. When i pull the OITM table up within the query generator i can not identify where this variable name come up without guessing which can give me the wrong information.
Can someone point me into the direction on how to assisocate variable to a field name within SAP B1. This is also another problem if i wanted to display variable within Crystal report layout.

Can You Use A Report Field Value In A Hyperlink?

Field names for cl_alv_table_create= create_dynamic_table
Morning All
My client is currently implementing SAP QM at one of the labs and I have come across a situation where the fieldnames required for a dynamic table creation can potentially contain spaces and special characters. So far I have urged them to remove all such characters as the call to the cl_alv_table_create=>create_dynamic_table method will dump if they are present.
My question therefore is, is there a definitive list of characters that cannot be used as part of a fieldname? I intend to use such a list to then search and replace the special characters to enable me to match fieldnames.
For those of you that know QM, we cannot use internally assigned numbers for master characteristics (client decision) and special characters are frequently used as names in the lab. My client sees it as a limitation to remove the spaces and special characters from the names but unfortunately it causes problems for me if they don't.
I need to match the names to determine results for a report so substition seems to be the way forward - unless some else has another suggestion?

IanThere is a form called SAACHECK in module pool RDDU0001 that the data dictionary program uses to check the validity of field names. You should probably have a look at the logic.
But why use the Master characteristics as the field name anyway? Why not instead create a cross reference in an internal table and generate a simple sequence for each unique master characteristic. That way your field names are just the sequence number, but you can still match up your data with a binary read on the cross reference internal table. -
Add PROPERTY to Fields for "Field Name"
I want to have each field with a unique name when it arrives in the Responses report. Then, when I export to csv or Excel, I can manage the data knowing each column has a well-formatted and unique name. This is unique from the field's "text".
I read a response from Randy that one can double-click on the title cell in the responses page, and type in a new name there, which becomes essentially the field name. This does not replace the field's text.
However with more than 200 fields in my form, this would be a tedious process. Also, naming fields should be part of the form design process, not in the responses side.
I recommend that the field definition pop-up, when designing a form, should include in the field's properties a FIELD_NAME. The help should make clear the character set allowed in field names (or perhaps this could be part of the user's options, such as prohibiting backslash, etc.)

Populate information when double click on the field name
I have this tree structure with the field names as shown at this picture.

I have never used method SET_USER_COMMAND (cl_gui_alv_grid) before so I do not really know its function.
However, you event handler FORM routine belongs to the old-fashioned fm-based ALV lists (e.g. REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY_LVC) so I doubt whether this will work together.
If you have define a column as HOTSPOT then this trigger the class event HOTSPOT_CLICK.
Correspondingly a double-click on the ALV grid triggers event DOUBLE_CLICK.

HTML 5 : 3 column template italic text
