Report question -  Set Variables to mandortory

I know we can set up variable to be mandatory entered.
But is it possible to do the follow and how?
If I have two variables A and B, user have to enter A value if they enter B value. But not necessary to enter B if A value gets entered.
Thanks!

  • Saving SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1; in a report

    Hi Experts,
    The scenario is:
When I open a report and set the prefix to 'SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;' then I save it. Then I close that specific report then open that report again. The 'SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;' is not saved in the report in the prefix section in Advanced tab.
Is there a way to save the SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1; in a report to get the Query log?
    Thanks,

    Hi A.Y,
Thanks for your answer, but I the Variable I set in the Prefix section is not saved even if I saved the report with the Variable.
Below is the steps I do:
    1. I open Report XYZ
    2. Click to Advanced tab then I enter 'SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;' or ' SET VARIABLE DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1, LOGLEVEL=2;' in the prefix section
    3. I saved the report
    4. Open Report ABC then
    5. I re-open again Report XYZ hoping that my prefix variable is saved
    6. I go to the ADvancec tab for Report XYZ, but I didnt see the variable I just saved
Thanks,That is strange. Can you try adding the code to the XML instead of adding it to the prefix section and click on SET XML and save the report?
I have highlighted the line of code in bold.

  • BEx Variable in Webi Report questions

    Hi Gurus,
    Here is my issue.
I created a BEx Query 0SD_C03 Cube with following fields
    Two Columns
    One Key Figure:                   Subtotal1
One Restricted Key Figure:  Subtotal with restriction " Sales Organization 1000"
    Two Rows                             Plant, Sales Organization
    One Variable with Sales Organization.
When I ran this query in BEx Analyzer I can see all Sales Organization values in prompt list, How ever when I created a Universe and ran a webi query I can see 1000 in the Sales Organization list.
Is this because I have restricted Key Figure with Sales Organization 1000 in the query?
I removed my Restricted Key Figure from my query and tried again this time I see some 10 Sales Oraganizations but I didn't see all available Sales Organizations. Does BO Universe LOVs restricte the list?
    Thanks

  • Set Variable column in the Column page?

    Hi,
I try to do this exercise but I facing some understanding problem, please guide me.
This is BIEE example to do Oracle BI publisher and Dashboard.
    1. Create a dashboard prompt for the region and state to filter the BI publisher report results on the dashboard.
    a. In Answers, open Region and State Prompt.
    b. In the Set Variable column, select None from the drop-down list
    c. Save the prompt in the My Sales folder as Region and state Prompt – No Variable.
My question from step a and b, I did not see any “Region and State Prompt” in Answers. Then clik Subject Areas – SupplierSales, then assign Region, and State. Then I try to make Set Variable column None. But I did not see where is Set Variable column in the Column page. May be I am doing wrong.
Please guide me to complete this.

  • Question on Variables in OBIEE

    Hi,
I am prasanna.I have a question on variables.
Is it necessary to create a different connection pool for session variables? I am unable to use the same connection pool for both repository and session variables.
    can anyone help me.
    Regards,
    prasanna.

    Hi Prasanna,
You can use the same connection pool by checking out “Allow First Connection for init block” to true
For setting *“Allow First Connection for init block”* follow below steps :
    1. In the Administration Tool, select Tools, then select Options to display the Options dialog.
    2. On the General tab, select ”Allow First Connection for init block.
But this option is not a best practice and might cause performance issues.
Better think is to use Different connection pool for variables.
    Try this...

  • How to generate report with dynamic variable number of columns?

How to generate report with dynamic variable number of columns?
I need to generate a report with varying column names (state names) as follows:
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM States ;
I get these column names from the result of another query.
In order to clarify my question, Please consider following table:
    CREATE TABLE TIME_PERIODS (
    PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50) PRIMARY KEY
    CREATE TABLE STATE_INCOME (
         NAME     VARCHAR2 (2),
         PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50)     REFERENCES TIME_PERIODS (PERIOD) ,
         INCOME     NUMBER (12, 2)
I like to generate a report as follows:
    AK CA DE FL ...
    PERIOD1 1222.23 2423.20 232.33 345.21
    PERIOD2
    PERIOD3
    Total 433242.23 56744.34 8872.21 2324.23 ...
The TIME_PERIODS.Period and State.Name could change dynamically.
So I can't specify the state name in Select query like
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM

  • Report Painter selection variables sorting

I have added a number of characteristics to my report painter report and set some as variables
i.e. plan version 1, plan version 2, plan version 3, plan version 1 year, plan version 2 year, plan version 3 year.
    These variables appear on the selection screen in the following order;
    plan version 1,
    plan version 2,
    plan version 3,
    plan version 1 year,
    plan version 2 year,
    plan version 3 year.
    What the business require is the variables to appear on the selection screen as follows;
    plan version 1,
    plan version 1 year,
    plan version 2,
    plan version 2 year,
    plan version 3,
    plan version 3 year
Has anyone any idea how the selection screen sorts the variables?
Can the selection screen sort order be changed for a report?
    Your assistance is appreciated
    John

For Selection Screen, you can try to use Selection Variant.
    The steps are like this:
    a. Go to GRR2 (change report painter)
    b. Then choose the report you are developing
    c. Execute the report
    d. On the selection screen, choose Go To-> Variant -> Save As Variant
    e. At Variant Attributes screen, you can do the following as your requirement:
        ·        Description
Enter a short, meaningful description of the variant. This can be up to 30 characters long.
    ·        Only for background processing
Select this field if you want the variant to be available for background processing but not in dialog mode.
    ·        Protect variant
Select this field if you want to prevent your variant being changed by other users.
    ·        Only display in catalog
Select this field if you only want the variant name to be displayed in the variant catalog (and not when the user calls the F4 value help).
    ·        System variant
This field cannot accept input. It is set automatically when a system variant (beginning with CUS& or SAP&) is created.
You can also assign the following further attributes to the selections in a variant:
    ·        Type
The system indicates here whether a field is a parameter (P) or a selection option (S).
    ·        Protected
Select this column for each selection that you want to write-protect on the selection screen. These fields are visible on the selection screen when the user starts a program with the variant, but do not accept user input.
    ·        Invisible
If you select this column, the system hides the corresponding field on the selection screen. This allows you to change the appearance of the selection screen.
    ·        Selection variable
If you select this column, you can set the value of the corresponding selection dynamically at runtime. The different ways of doing this are explained in the section Variable Values in Variants.
    ·        Without values
If you select this field, the contents of the corresponding field are not saved with the variant.
This is useful if you do not want to overwrite the contents of this field on the selection screen.
For example, suppose you create a report 'SAPTEST', with the parameter 'TEST', for which you create the variant 'TESTVARIANT'. In the variant, you set the 'Without values' flag for the parameter. Then, you run time program and enter the value 'ABCD' in the TEST field. If you now retrieve the 'TESTVARIANT' variant, the TEST field retains the value ABC instead of being overwritten by SPACE.
    ·        SPA/GPA
This attribute only appears if you created the corresponding selection criterion using 'MEMORY ID xxxu2019. You can switch the SPA/GPA handling on and off in the variant. This means that fields filled using SPA/GPA appear with their initial values after you have loaded a variant in which those fields have an initial value.
    f. When you are finished, you can save it and name the variant (e.g.: Z_S_Screen for simpler selection screen)
After that, every time you want to have the selection screen, you can choose Get Variant or Go To-> Variant-> and select the variant you have saved.

  • Financial Reporting Question - Formula row Issue

    Hello,
I have a financial reporting question and would like to have your inputs in order to achieve what I am trying to do.
I have a report with two grids – grid 1 & grid 2. And there is a formula row in grid 2 that is “change between the two years” worth of data. The year and period combination is in the page of the grids.
    Formula row (in grid 2) = ((Grid1.[b,6]) - [b,6]) / [b,6]
The issue is when I change the Page selection in Grid 1 the formula in grid 2 doesn’t get updated values unless and until I make a change in the grid 2 Page selection too. If I don’t make any changes in the page selection in grid 2 it keeps the data (looks like it is still considering the previously retrieved/calculated values) as it is without any update.
How can I make the formula row in grid 2 dynamic so that it gets updated no matter what combination of page selection I make in either grid 1 or grid 2 or even if I just change something in grid 1 and nothing in grid 2?
Please let me know your inputs. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Krrish

Page POV will be specific to the grid. Why can't you try to have the POV at the report level. In the HTML view of the report, the report will give you a Drop Down to select POV for all Grids.Select All Grids option and then set the POV which will be same for both the grids (which you want) and all your formulas will work.

  • Updateable Report Question.

    Updateable Report Question.
Currently I am developing an XE application, so I think that is apex 2.0.
Here is an example of what I wish to achieve.
Suppose I have an emp table with columns
    dept, id, name and comment.
I create an SQL report as
    SELECT * from emp;
I only wish to see the name and comment columns, so in the report attributes I un-tick show the columns dept and id.
I want the user to be able to update the comment column, So I edit the comment column and in “Tabular Form Element” I change the “Display As” from “Standard Report Column” to “Text Field”
This now lets me edit the data in the column in the report.
Now want to add in an on change event to call a javascript routine that will use ajax to do the actual update.
My problem is that I need to pass in the “hidden” dept and id column values as well as the modified text, thus
In “Tabular Form Element” – “Element Attributes” add in
    onchange="updateRemarks(#DEPT#, #ID#, this.value)"
Unfortunately this does not work, apex does not expand the #DEPT# & #ID#, and just passes in the literal text.
So how can I achieve this?
    Thanks,
    GP>

The columns and rows have a set format for the Id, so if you know one Id you know the row and the ids of all the other columns.
As an example, this will show the value of column 6 when you click on any column with the function call in the Element Attributes:
    Script:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function showCol6(col){
      var col6 = document.getElementById("f06_" + col.id.substr(4,4));
      alert(col6.value);
    </script>Element Attributes:
onclick=showCol6(this);You could also use a Named Column template, specific to this region, to include the column values directly in the function call, but I think it's best to stick with the ApEx defaults if possible.

  • CMC Automating Reports Question

Greetings and thanks for taking the time to look this over,
I am looking to automate reports in CMC but cannot find a step-by-step guide to do this successfully. Can anyone provide me with directions? If not, here's the problem:
1: When I import a Crystal report and set it to schedule, with an output of PDF and make that schedule reoccurring - the report does not run. The only reoccurring report that is successfully running is one set to reoccur "now."

    Thanks.

I am attempting to schedule specific uploaded crystal reports to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. This would seem pretty self explanatory, but somehow it's not working. Here's what I do now:
1: Inside the "Automated Reports" folder, I've created subfolders for the various companies that we report for.
2: I've created various user names for each of those companies. For example: The "Blue Company" folder has a "Blue Company" user name.
3: I upload the Crystal Report in question into the "Blue Company" folder.
4: I go into "properties" for the report.
5: In "default settings", I schedule the recurrence for "Daily" with Days(N) = 1, and the start Date/Time with Today's date and the time at 2:00 AM, with an end date 10 years in the future.
6: I try "Scheduling For" either myself or the username created in step 2.
7: Format is changed to PDF.
8: Destination: Changed to Email. From is set from a company email address. To are other confirmed email addresses. Subject is something like "%SI_NAME%%SI_STARTTIME%" and the Specific Name of something like "%SI_NAME%%SI_STARTTIME%.%EXT%"
9: I then Save the report.
I don't see any other steps to take to force the report schedule to take. If I run these reports "now," they usually run fine, but the recurrence part just refuses to work.
Does this provide you with enough information?

  • "Set variable value" topic

    Hi evry!
My vi sends some value of "cluster" type to RT-machine's vi by means of "Set variable (variant).vi", wich, in turn, answers with Error #2: Memory is Full!
    How can be that?
    Thanx in adv, guys!
    P.S.: All versions are 8.2.1.

    Hi Sharonoff,
Thanks for contacting National Instruments.  I have been looking into your question a little more and I have some helpful links for you that I think will help you out.  This error is pretty self-explanatory in the fact that the system you are running the VI on is running out of memory.  The links attached below should give you some good guidelines on what to do with managing large data sets trying to avoid this error.  I would particularly pay attention to the article entitled "Managing Large Data Sets in LabVIEW."  However, you want to try and limit the size of the data in the cluster that you are sending to the RT-machine as it may not have a large amount of virtual memory that it can use to handle your data.  Please look over some of these documents and try out some of their methods.  If you have any more questions, reply back and we can go from there.  Thanks!

  • Custom Quiz: How to update and report user-defined variable?

    Hello,
I am a novice Captivate 5.5 user.  Thanks to Lilibiri's blog and articles, I have managed to built a custom quiz (all with user-defined variables and advanced actions).
The quiz is composed of 2 questions with 4 possible answers each.  Each of the 4 answers have a different score attached to it (i.e. answer a = 4 points; answer b = 3 points; answer c = 2 points; answer d = 1 point).  I have inlcuded a "Feedback Slide" that may appear after each question.  For example, if a person chooses score d, they will get sent to a Feedback slide that basically says they are wrong.  There is a "back" button on the "Feedback" slide that can take them back to the the prior question sllide and they can change and re-submit their answer.  After they have answered both question slides, they continue to a "Results" slide.  Upon entry to the "Results" slide, using "advanced actions" my user-defined variable adds up all of the scores to get a total.  Based on this total, one of three possible text captions boxes appear, depending on their total.  And....here are my questions (I have checked and re-checked the Forum and blogs for answers - and I am so sorry if I missed them!!)
    1) I have defined a variable that totals the points that the person received on the quiz.  I would like this variable displayed on the Results slide.  It can get it to  appear in a Text Caption Box.  BUT if a person changes a score and re-submits the score before entering the "Results" slide, the total score reflects EVERY score that the person has chosen (the scores that they originally chose and then changed are still included in the total).
    2) I want the total score a person gets on the quiz reported to the instructor.  I don't know if a user-defined variable can be reported and how to go about doing this.  We will be running our quizzes on an LMS (though we haven't chosen one yet).  I tried using a system variable (cpQuizInfoPointsscored), but I believe (after reading discussions on Forum), it will not work in my quiz if my scores are adjusted/changed.
    3) another question - would you like me to put this in a separate discussion?   I certainly can!!  There is a "Back" button on the "Results" page.  I have tried using "advanced actions" and "on success: move to last slide visited" but neither option will allow the user to move to the last slide visited.  Ideally, I would liek a person to be able to go back through the quiz, look at their answers and adjust them.
Thanks in advance for your help!  I have learned SO much in the last few weeks from all of you!

Hello and welcome to the forum,
That is a lot of questions, thanks for reading my blog. The most difficult part is indeed the reporting in case, you did see perhaps that I have not yet published the blog post about reporting questions with partial scores, third part of my reporting sequence. Have two possibilities that I'm exploring: either with Javascript, or with the brandnew Master Widget that Rod is pointing to. Watch out for the blog post(s), but need some more time. So no real answer to your second question for the moment, because you cannot control the quizzing system variables with advanced actions.
About your first question: you will have to so sort of 'reset' when re-entering the question slide, so that the total score stored in the user variable is decremented with the score attributed to the user in his previous answer. This means that you have to store this previous score in another user variable. Hope this make sense?
I do not get the last question totally. Are you using the default Score slide? You have to allow Backwards movement in the Quiz Preferences, but for default Question slides this will not allow the user to change his answer. I thought you were using custom question slides? Do not use the default score slide in that case, but create your own score slide, so that you can add buttons and actions to your wish. Perhaps I misunderstand your question, and it would be better to explain more, eventually in another thread if it is about the default score slide, question slides.

how to set variable to run java and j2ee

Please ask a specific and comprehensible question. Consider describing with less vagueness the actual current problem that you are encountering.

  • Multiple data sets: a common global dataset and per/report data sets

Is there a way to have a common dataset included in an actual report data set?
    Case:
For one project I have about 70 different letters, each letter being a report in Bi Publisher, each one of them having its own dataset(s).
However all of these letters share a common standardized reference block (e.g. the user, his email address, his phone number, etc), this common reference block comes from a common dataset.
The layout of the reference block is done by including a sub-llayout (rtf-file).
The SQL query for getting the dataset of the reference block is always the same, and, for now, is included in each of the 70 reports.
Ths makes maintenance of this reference block very hard, because each of the 70 reports must be adapted when changes to the reference block/dataset are made.
Is there a better way to handle this? Can I include a shared dataset that I would define and maintain only once, in each single report definition?

    Hi,
The use of the subtemplate for the centrally managed layout, is ok.
However I would like to be able to do the same thing for the datasets in the reports:
one centrally managed data set (definition) for the common dataset, which is dynamic!, and in our case, a rather complex query
    and
datasets defined on a per report basis
It would be nice if we could do a kind of 'include dataset from another report' when defining the datasets for a report.
Of course, this included dataset is executed within each individual report.
This possibility would make the maintenance of this one central query easier than when we have to maintain this query in each of the 70 reports over and over again.

  • Using Spry Data Set Variable in Recordset

I have a page that contains a spry data set and a recordset. The recordset uses one of the variables from the spry data set to filter its results. how do I apply the spry data set variable to the recordset?

I believe passing this the variable through the URL requires you to update the page, right?
    Yes
Is there anyway to grab the spry data set variable direct and apply it to your recordset filter?
The SpryDataSet variable can only be used on the clientside (JavaScript) so you will have to get your recordset using JS.
A page refresh can be set in motion if you add {useCache: false, loadInterval: 500} to your dataset to then set an observer to your dataset to invoke the page refreash function.
