Report Script Export to sql

Hi there again, I test the report script to export data to SQL, for example, on Demo - Basic db, the text file is generated as this:
New York Stereo Sales 1000.0 950.0
New York Stereo Cost of Goods Sold 580.0 551.0
New York Stereo Margin 420.0 399.0
However when import to sql, I still get everything in one big column, any idea?
<PAGE(Scenario)
<COLUMN(Year)
<ROW(Market, Product, Accounts)
<CHILD East

Don, I haven't followed all of your other threads so I'm not sure what tool you're using to import the .txt file to your relational database.
However, the problem is probably that your import tool isn't recognizing where one field ends and another begins. Pretty much every import tool has a method for specifying the column widths, or to use a delimiter - for example, specify tab delimiters and use {TABDELIMIT} in your report script.

export database 'DP_A1423'.'DP_A1423' using server report_file 'MFHSB6WK' to data_file 'G:\\Hyperion\\export.txt';  if i am giving it location, it throwing me error. Unable to Open File ['G:\\Hyperion\\export.txt']
Can someone please point me in right direction.
    Thanks in advance.

    >>Cameron did revisit the use of MDX.
^^^I did.  And I didn't say it was wrong.  Only that there is no blanket rule better for MDX vs DATAEXPORT vs report scripts. I suppose you were saying that.
    What I did see was:
    1)  Large number of output rows tends to favor report scripts
    2)  Large amounts of data (particularly if in a BSO database and suppressing lots of data) tends to favor MDX.
Which is really the best (read fastest) depends on the extraction requirements in question. Kind of stinks but there it is.

  • Report script export 0 KB file from BSO application

HI, I am try to export budget data from classic planning application using report script in essbase. Report script is not giving any erros. After successful execution it is creating 0kb file. I am able to export data for the same combination using Calculation script. But, report script is not giving any output. I need to export data using report script only. Can any one help on this.

Can you post the calculation script too?

  • Report script taking too long to export data

    Hello guys,
I have a report script to export data out of a BSO cube. The cube is 200GB in size. But the exported text file is only 10MB. It takes around 40 mins to export this file.
I have exported data of this size in less than a minute from other DBs. But this one is taking way too long for me.
I also have a calc script for the same export but that too is taking 20 mins which is not reasonable for a 10MB export.
Any idea why a report script could take this long? Is it due to huge size of database? Or is there a way to optimize the report script?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the input guys.
My DATAEXPORT is taking half the time than my report script export. So yeah it is much faster but still not reasonable(20 mins for one month data) compared to other DBs that are exported very quick.
In my calc I am just FIXING on level 0 members for most of the dimensions against the specific period, year and scenario. I have checked the conditions for an optimal report script, I think mine is just fine.
The outline has like 15 dimensions in it and only two of them are dense. Do you think the reason might be the huge size of DB along with too many sparse Dims?
I appreciate your help on this.
    Thanks

  • Encrypt Excel Export from SQL Server Reporting Services prior to attaching to e-mail

Does SSRS 2012 have a secure e-mail Delivery Extension that would allow the Excel document to be encrypted?
    Or is there sample code?
Or is the best approach to consider a Microsoft Partner product such as Database Potential, Inc.'s "Secure Delivery Pack for SQL Server Reporting Services"?
    http://www.databasepotential.com/product-p/sdp.htm
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or feedback regarding this topic.
    Boyd

    Hi Boyd,
Currently, it’s not supported a delivery extension that encrypts documents before sending them in Reporting Services. If you have the SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) environment, you can use the following workaround:
    1. Using SSIS Script Task to encrypt the report before exporting it to the Excel file.
    2. Add a Send Mail Task to send the Excel files to the recipients.
For the details, please refer to the document below:
    http://microsoft-ssis.blogspot.in/2011/10/encrypt-files-in-ssis.html
In addition, we can try to use .NET API approach. In this scenario, we need capture the Excel file using the WQL Query of FileWatcher, and then encrypt the file, finally email the Excel File.
For the details, please refer to the blog as shown below:
    http://microsoft-ssis.blogspot.in/2010/12/continuously-watching-files-with-wmi.html

  • Report script taking very long time to export in ASO

    Hi All,
My report script is taking very long time to execute and finally a message appears as timed out.
I'm working on ASO Cubes and there are 14 dimensions for which i need to export all data for all the dimensions for only one version.
The data is very huge and the member count in each dimension is also huge, so which is making me difficult to export the data.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks

Here is a link that addresses several ways to optimize your report script. I utilize report scripts for Level 0 exports in an ASO environment as well, however the majority of our dimemsions are attribute dimensions.
These are the most effective solutions we have implemented to improve our exports via report scripts:
    1. Make sure your report script is written in the order of how the Report Extractor retrieves data.
    2. Supressing Zero and Missing Data
    3. We use the LINK command within reports for some dimensions that are really big and pull at Level 0
    4. Using Symmetric reports.
    5. Breakout the exports in multiple reports.
However, you may also consider some additional solutions outlined in this link:
    1. The MDX optimizing commands
    2. Back end system settings
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_dbag/drpoptim.htm
I hope this helps. Maybe posting your report script would also help users to provide feedback.
    Thanks

  • SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services export to Excel

    Hello,
We recently upgraded to SQL Server 2014 from 2008 R2.
In SSRS With the new version of SQL Server we are having an issue with the Cell Border Expression logic when exporting to Excel.
This Cell is a Grouped By Column on the Staff ID
Here is the expression for the Cell Border
    BorderStyle:
              =IIF(Fields!StaffParttime.Value = "Y", "Solid","None")
The report renders correctly however when exporting the report the Border is not correct in the spreadsheet.
Example:  Cell 1 Parttime = "N" there is no border, Cell 2 Parttime = "Y" there is a border, Cell 3 Parttime = "N" there is a border
Cell 3 should not have a border, also the subsequent sheets all have borders when they should not.  Once the border is set it does not change.
Has anyone had this same/similar problem and if so what was your resolution?
    Thanks

    Hi Jrod T,
Based on your description, you are experiencing an issue with the Cell Border Expression logic when exporting the report to Excel, you can’t see the expression added for the Border Style (=IIF(Fields!StaffParttime.Value = "Y", "Solid","None")
) work fine in the recently upgraded SQL Server 2014, right?
I have tested it on my local environment in both the early version and the later version and reproduced the issue in SQL Server 2014.
The issue due to in the earlier versions of Reporting Services (2005), there was limited support for translating expressions in RDL to Microsoft Excel formulas. But in the newly version, when you export a report to Excel, RDL expressions will not translated
to Excel formulas, So in the version 2014 the expression will not work.

  • Sapgui scripting - export report to Excel then return to sap

I am new to SAP and my company has just updated to 4.7. I can export a report to MS Excel as spreadsheet, run a excel macro on the spreadsheet in excel, save the excel workbook in a local directory, then close & exit excel. However, I can not get the script to continue after excel is closed. The script does not respond. the following is an example of the code:
    If Not IsObject(application) Then
       Set SapGuiAuto  = GetObject("SAPGUI")
       Set application = SapGuiAuto.GetScriptingEngine
    End If
    If Not IsObject(connection) Then
       Set connection = application.Children(0)
    End If
    If Not IsObject(session) Then
       Set session    = connection.Children(0)
    End If
    If IsObject(WScript) Then
       WScript.ConnectObject session,     "on"
       WScript.ConnectObject application, "on"
    End If
    session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtS_POSID-LOW").text = "me24810110"
    session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtS_POSID-HIGH").text = "me24810111"
    session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[8]").press
    session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[43]").press
    session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
    session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/sub:SAPLSPO5:0101/radSPOPLI-SELFLAG[0,0]").select
    session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
    session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
    set ns1=createobject("WScript.shell")
    ns1.AppActivate "Microsoft Excel"
    ns1.SendKeys "%TMM", True
    ns1.SendKeys "PERSONAL.XLS!EOM_Status", True
    ns1.SendKeys "%R", True
    ns1.SendKeys "%FA H:\2005_Monthly_Status\EOM_CIP_Status.xls ", True
    ns1.SendKeys "%Y", True
    ns1.SendKeys "%Fx", True
Now... from here, the SAP report that was exported is showing on the screen, but I can't get the script to recognize any of the controls on the screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, I want to thank you for your response. It's greatly appreciated.
The message box example you sent me does and did work before. I am attaching example code (I've numbered some of the lines of code so we can reference the same code) followed by specific events. Example code follows:
    If Not IsObject(application) Then
       Set SapGuiAuto  = GetObject("SAPGUI")
       Set application = SapGuiAuto.GetScriptingEngine
    End If
    If Not IsObject(connection) Then
       Set connection = application.Children(0)
    End If
    If Not IsObject(session) Then
       Set session    = connection.Children(0)
    End If
    If IsObject(WScript) Then
       WScript.ConnectObject session,     "on"
       WScript.ConnectObject application, "on"
    End If
    session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtS_POSID-LOW").text = "me24730110"
    session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtS_POSID-HIGH").text = "me24730111"
    session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtS_POSID-HIGH").setFocus
    session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtS_POSID-HIGH").caretPosition = 10
    session.findById("wnd[0]").sendVKey 0
    1.  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[8]").press
    2.  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[43]").press
    3.  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
    4.  session.findById("wnd1]/usr/sub:SAPLSPO5:0101/radSPOPLI-SELFLAG[0,0]").select
    5.  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
    6.  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
    7.  set ns1=createobject("WScript.shell")
    8.  ns1.AppActivate "Microsoft Excel"
    9.  ns1.SendKeys "%TMM", True
    10. ns1.SendKeys "PERSONAL.XLS!EOM_Status", True
    11. ns1.SendKeys "%R", True
    12. ns1.SendKeys "%FA H:\SAP_Scripts\EOM-Status\t1Data.xls ", True
    13. ns1.SendKeys "%Y", True
    14. ns1.SendKeys "%Fx", True
    15. 'MsgBox session.Id
    16. session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[0]/btn[3]").press
    Specific events:
First scenario ... With line 15 (MsgBox) commented out. The script runs great until line 16 . Excel is activated, the report data exported to a spreadsheet, the excel macro executed properly, excel file saved, and excel is exited properly. When the excel app is closed out, the script is left in the same condition as after execution of line 1 (the SAP report data has been selected and is presented in report format) and the excel app is no longer resident. Line 16 depresses the green back arrow and would return SAP to the previous screen. But nothing happens. It's like the script does not see line 16 and ends after excel is closed out in line 14.
Second scenario ... With line 15 (MsgBox) NOT commented out. Excel is activated, the report data exported to a spreadsheet, and the excel macro begins execution. During the excel macro execution, the MsgBox is displayed (/app/con[0]/ses[0]) and everything halts after the ecxel macro completes. When I hit the OK button in the MsgBox, an SAP information modal box is displayed with the caption "Save data in spread sheet". When I hit the green check mark (enter) in the information modal box, I am returned to  same condition as after execution of line 1 (the SAP report data has been selected and is presented in report format) however, the excel app is still showing the result of the executed excel macro, the excel file is not saved, and the excel app is still resident. It appears that the script halted when the MsgBox was executed.
    Please... any suggestions.???

I have 2 questions for help in regards to the above script:
    1)  For the Login and Service Account portion I can't get my output to show up properly.  Here is the snip from the script:
    #Login & Service Account Information#SQL Host Information
    $smo = new-object ('Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server') $computername
    $fragments += "<h3>Login & Service Account Information</h3>"
    $fragments += $smo | select ServiceAccount, Logins | ConvertTo-HTML -Fragment
Here is how the output shows for this portion:
    ServiceAccount
    Logins
    domain\svcAcct
                 Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.LoginCollection
I would like top have the login information show in the above table of the all the different logins.  When I run the script without HTML for that portion and just output to console it shows the login info as I would expect.
    2)  The 2nd question is, how do I add a variable to the bottom of the script to email the report to said email address.  This is probably simple but can't get my head wrapped around this part.
    Thanks all in advance!

Thanks AnnaWY, that resolved the portion on how to email the report.  I was also able to utilize the following code which does the same thing as well:
#Send an email with the contents of the report
    $MailBody= Get-Content $path
    $MailSubject= "SQL Server Report"
    $SmtpClient = New-Object system.net.mail.smtpClient
    $SmtpClient.host = "smtp.server.com"
    $MailMessage = New-Object system.net.mail.mailmessage
    $MailMessage.from = "[email protected]"
    $MailMessage.To.add("[email protected]")
    $MailMessage.Subject = $MailSubject
    $MailMessage.IsBodyHtml = 1
    $MailMessage.Body = $MailBody
    $SmtpClient.Send($MailMessage)
I still have not been able to resolve the portion regarding the login/service account information not showing up in the table correctly.  For the time being I have removed it from the environment report and instead included it as a script of its own
    in our Security Auditing process.

  • Export all dimension using a report scripts

Does anybody has an idea on how to Export the dimensions from Essbase through a report script? Because i will use this to load the dimensions in odi.
    any idea is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Hanson

If you look at my blog, I talk about the <preview function. it brings back them members with zeros as the values. It's much quicker than actually returning the data.
There is a problem in general with your premise of using a report script to do this. For ODI, you will want the dimensions in a parent child format. The report script will not do that for you. I would suggest you look at the outline extractor housed on applied olap's web site. www.appliedolap.com it's free and you can run it in a batch mode.
I think you should also look at John Goodwin's blog http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/ he has a series of articles on ODI. you whould be able to extract the dimensionality from a cube and load it into another cube directly from ODI

  • Export metadata using report script/data export

    Hi all,
    I have a cube with 3 dimensions:
    1. Accounts
    2. Period
    3. Products
My purpose is to create a txt file using report script (if someone have a better idea I'm willing to hear) as following:
    Accounts (level 0), Period (level 0), Products(level 0), ***Products (parent(level 0))***
The challenge is to create an additional column with metadata information like parent of the previous column in my exapmle.
I will be very happy if someone can help me with that.

One of my report scripts has the option { decimal n } set. Now I am getting this to work only for account members which has a '%' symbol in the name. For all other accounts, data is being exported as a whole number even though the cube has decimal values. This is an ASO cube. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    N

  • Report Scripts - Please Can Some One Help Me

    Hello Gurus,
Is it possible to display 2 members of the same dimension in adjacent columns using Report Scripts? if not what is the best available option?
    Consider this Sample Outline
    +Product
    +-Cofee
    +---Cafined
    +-------1100
    +-------1200
    +---Decafined
    +-------1300
    +-------1400
    +-Soda
    +---Coke
    +-------1500
The format of the desired report is
    ======= Jan Feb Mar
    1100 Cofee 8 8 8
    1200 Cofee 8 8 8
    1300 Cofee 7 7 7
    1400 Cofee 7 7 7
    1500 Soda 6 6 6
    ================
Please Can some one help me in this regard!
    Thanks In Advance

If I remember correctly when I wanted to do something similar I imported the report with the level 0 members into SQL Server and then joined on a mapping table (was a parent/child table in our case) to get the other column. In our situation we already had the mapping table readily available because this is where the dimension was built from!

  • Report Script issue

    Hi,
Is it possible to create a Report Script that would export Period data (jan, feb, ... dec) condition being that the start period is a subvar. Eg. from &FcstMonth to Dec, where &FcstMonth is Aug.
    Regards
    Leo

    Hi Leo,
I have a report script that is running with &FMonths set to "Aug" "Sep" "Oct" "Nov" "Dec"
same should work on your side,
    Regards,

  • Use of Essbase substitution variables in filename of a MaxL report script

    Hey guys.
Is there a way that I can embed the value of one or more Essbase substitution variables in the filename of a report script in a MaxL command?
I'm running a report script that uses sub. vars for entities and accounts and based on which of those members are set in the variables I want the filenames to include those member names. I'm looking for a way to include the &varName in the filename using the export database command.
    THANKS!

    Not really.
If you want to do a lot of string mangling in a script outside of the report script, you can use DISPLAY VARIABLE:
    MAXL> display variable CurMo;
    application         database            variable            value
    +-------------------+-------------------+-------------------+-------------------
                                             CurMo               MayRegards,
    Robb Salzmann
