Reporting Essbase typed measures

Is anyone using Typed Measures in Essbase? I cannot seem to format a date measure and the text measures output the value instead of the associated text from the text list.

You can lock and send text measures with the Excel Addin, what error message are you getting.
Cheers

Hi. Can I use Essbase date type measures in Planning 11.1.2.2? I want to store contract start and contract end dates, possibly in a Measures dimension separate from the Accounts dimension.
    Thanks in advance,.

Typed measures are not yet supported.

  • Dataexport to Oracle tables with typed measures.

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to export typed measures (dates and text) to an Oracle table using dataexport under Essbase 11.1.1.2? I've tried but I just get a message saying 'unable to export data to sql table' with no associated sql/odbc error messages:

I know it's something to do with the typed measures as I copied the cube and deleted the typed measures and had the dataexport working just fine. I've also tried changing the table fields from date & varchar2 to number just in case dataexport was ignoring the smartlist/date lookups.
For the record, typed measures are exported correctly to text files, so it's seems to be just ODBC targets that I'm having this problem with.
    Thanks,
    Paul.

Thanks Glenn, but I've already tried that - (it's varchar2 in oracle) - I've tried various combinations of varchar2, number and date all to know avail and all with no helpful messages that might give me a clue.

  • Format strings / typed measures / mdxformat()

    Hi all,
what is the 'secret' of format strings? I read the manual but I don't understand the clear difference to 'typed measures'. According to dbag format strings need a MDX Format directive.
    MDX Format Directive
A format string is defined by the following syntax:
format_string_expression = MdxFormat ( string_value_expression ) where string_value_expression is a valid MDX string value expression as described in the MDX specification documented in theOracle Essbase Technical Reference.
I don't find any documentation about a MDX Format directive. Does anybody have 'speaking sample'...I just want to get the idea...
And again, what is the clear difference to typed measures?
    Thanks
    Robert

Farmat strings are part of typed measures. they allow you to use MDX to set up different ways of looking at data. With a text list you are limited to integer values for data with a format string you could use a case statement to define ranges like case when [sales] < 100 then "bad" else "good"

  • Dynamically update values in Text Lists for typed measures

    Hi,
We have an alpha-numeric data column in our fact table. This is a data coulmn and we want to store its content as data value in one of the measures. The value in this column is highly dynamic and it is not restricted to a fixed set of values. To store the values we need to use typed measures, but is there way in which I can define the text list itself dynamically? Meaning, we will build the text list dynamically as and when the data comes in the fact table. Is this possible. We are using 11.1.2.1.
    Regards,
    Krishna

I don't think we have a MaxL (I can be worng) to update Text Lists. You can try creating .slt file dynamically and then manually import them before data load.
    .slt will have entries like
    #MISSING NoData
    #OUTOFRANGE OutOfRange
    3 Bad
    2 Average
    1 Good

  • Issue with Reports using costume measures - BPC 10.0 NW

    Hello BPC Colleagues,
I’m having a problem with some BPC reports using costume measures and I would like to have your inputs about this issue.
When all the reports are executed using a costume measures the report execution fails after a long time of execution (7min). The report has 1200 accounts and 57 company codes.
In order to create trial balance we create these costume measure. Basically the measures are standars (with a few changes) and it works for limited reports (few account and companies) but we I try to executed for several accounts and companies I have the following error:
“The execution of report Default Report failed. Please contact your administrator.”
Error while communicating with the server
    Framework message:
The underlying connection was close: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.
    Summary of the BPC LOG:
    |An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to https://BPCENV.APPSET.MODEL. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.#
We already increased the PSAPTEMP table and this didn’t fix the issue. At the beginning we were sure that this was an issue with table space but the error persist.
I don’t think (maybe I’m wrong) that this is not an issue related to the costume measure or to authorizations since I can retrieve data if I reduce the request to less accounts an company, so in my point of view this looks like a performance issue.
Just for you, below you will find the details about our measure that generate the problem:
    'IIF([%ACCOUNT%].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("2/CPMB/ACCTYPE")="INC",SUM(PERIODSTODATE([%TIME%].[%TIMEYEARLEVEL%], [%TIME%].CURRENTMEMBER), [MEASURES].[/CPMB/SDATA]),

Finally is important to mention that we are using BPC 10.0 NW (SP08)
If you have any suggestion for me I will appreciate.
    Thanks you a lot!

    Hi Vadim,
Once again, thanks for your help.
We already modified the YTD standard measure but is with that measure that I have problem. Do you think that my new formula is not efficient and for that reason I’m having this problem? Is this correct?.
Below you will find the standard and costume measure. In red I marked the difference between these 2 formulas:
    YEAR TO DATE CUSTOME MESURE:
    'IIF([%ACCOUNT%].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("2/CPMB/ACCTYPE")="INC",SUM(PERIODSTODATE([%TIME%].[%TIMEYEARLEVEL%], [%TIME%].CURRENTMEMBER), [MEASURES].[/CPMB/SDATA]),

    YEAR TO DATE STANDAR MEASURE:
    'IIF([%ACCOUNT%].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("2/CPMB/ACCTYPE")="INC",SUM(PERIODSTODATE([%TIME%].[%TIMEYEARLEVEL%], [%TIME%].CURRENTMEMBER),-[MEASURES].[/CPMB/SDATA]),
    IIF([%ACCOUNT%].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("2/CPMB/ACCTYPE")="EXP",SUM(PERIODSTODATE([%TIME%].[%TIMEYEARLEVEL%],[%TIME%].CURRENTMEMBER),[MEASURES].[/CPMB/SDATA]),
    IIF([%ACCOUNT%].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("2/CPMB/ACCTYPE")="AST",([MEASURES].[/CPMB/SDATA], CLOSINGPERIOD([%TIME%].[%TIMEBASELEVEL%])),

If you have any suggestion to correct my formula I would really appreciate it.

  • Essbase Date Measures  in OBIEE

Dose Essbase Date Measures supported by OBIEE. Can we have a Essbase Date Measures display as a DATE in OBIEE?
    Thanks

    Hi Nilaksha,
I thought you might say that, I think this is because Essbase doesn't use data types as such, all data is stored as a value and characteristics of that data or how it is treated are more like meta data. This certainly rings true for the time dimensions I have seen. I think your best bet is to look at how you can format the numbers in the columns to make them appear in the format you require.

I have a requirement here which basically requires the usage of measures coming from two different measure dimensions of Essbase (Account and Scenario) next to each other in reports.

So basically neither of the two options work at all. Most of the time he just assumes that all that measures are coming from the last hierarchy I defined as a measure dimension...hence the unknown member error.
Likewise with the two logical tables, he screws the query up completely and doens't even manage to resolve the column mappung against the logocal tables.
Has anyone ever tried to mix measure dimensions retrieved from Essbase? Using OBI EE it's very tricky to define the acutal measure containing data points in Essbase.

Sorry for the reformatting...the forum doesn't like the square brackets in the BI server logs...

Solved. Takes some nibbling around in Answers, but doable with unioning and pivot tables.

  • Financial Reporting - Essbase alias issue

    Hi,
    issue with FR or Essbase.
i have two applications. ASO has the same outline with BSO(planning).
both of them have same alias table in Arabic.
problem is i created two reports(one is copy of the other).
RPT1(ASO Datasouce): member1 alias is not displaying. member2 alias is displaying.
RPT2(Planning Datasource): member1 alias is displaying but now member2 alias disappeared.
i cant get what is the issue. (there is no copy/paste no special/bad character. i typed those aliases myself)
    thanks in advance.

    its about member aliases.
i tried both member labels and custom headings and all of combinations at the right side Heading Row Properties pane.
whenever i select an english alias table for those reports, they work fine all aliases are displaying. whenever i select an arabic alias table, fail.
also i've tried to use functions +<< MemberAlias(.......) >>+ but didn't work neither.

  • Financial Reports with Date measures are showing data one day less

    Hello,
I am running a financial report off of an ASO cube with type measures enabled. However, when i run the report in FR, that date data coming out is 1 day less...for eg 04/30/2012 comes out as 04/29/2012.
however, when i run the same ad-hoc report via smart view, it is fine and the date comes out as expected. this is happening only in FR.
Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.
    Thank you...

I'm not sure what version you are running, but this was determined to be a bug that was fixed in 11.1.2.
Although not pretty, you can add a similarly named dynamic member that will advance your date for you that you could use in FRS. You could use the DateRoll function: DateRoll ([Date Dimension], DP_DAY, 1 ). Just an idea.

  • Get a report of cubes/measures information?

    Hi,
I don't know what are the reporting capabilities of OWB. I just finished building all my stars and would like to get a report of the information on all the measures that are defined in my cubes. Is this possible in OWB? Do you know of any other means to get this?
Basically I need to run a check against my specs, to make sure everything was created correctly.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Marcos,
I've tried to open "Repository Browser" from the Design Center but I get an error page:
can't establish a connection to the server at <server>:8999
Where can I check this component's configuration? maybe redirect it to another port? I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense. You see, I'm quite new to OWB.
Validation/Generation won't work for me as to what I want to do is to make sure that all the measures I entered in the cubes match with my customer's specs (number of measures, descriptions, types, implementation details, etc). I want to do this before deploying the objects.
As for the version, I'm using OWB 10g Rel2 (Oracle Warehouse Builder Client 10.2.0.1.31 / Oracle Warehouse Builder Repository 10.2.0.1.0) over an Oracle 10g Rel 2 DB.
    Thanks for your support!

  • Essbase Date Measures as DATE in OBIEE

    Hi,
We have created an ASO Cube in Essbase 11.1.1 with a Date Measure member call "Maturity Date" in Measure dimension (Tagged as Accounts).
Once we create the Physical layer Administrator tool on OBIEE this member refers as a double data type. And also when we create a criteria on Answers and displays the result it is shown as a number.
But on excel (with essbase add-on) data shows as a date. (Ex: 2009-09-20)
Can anyone tell what has to be changed to display a Date Measures as Date type on OBIEE or suggest another alternate.
    Thanks!

  • OBIEE Date Comparison report with multiple measures

    Hello everyone...
I have a requirement where I need to create a date comparison report (Current Month vs. Prior Month vs Prior Month Year Ago vs YTD vs Prior YTD vs Rolling 3 months, etc) with multiple Measures (Quote count, Quote offered count, New Business count, etc). I am to generate this report in this fashion:
Quotes Current Month vs PM vs YoY Prior
Month Current Month Prior Year Current
    YTD vs PM Prior
YTD Rolling 3 Months vs PM Prior Rolling 3 Months
    Issued 120 120 123 1400 1020 1700 1580
    Unique Risks

    Unique Risk Close Ratio
    Offered Close Ratio 21.6% 26.7% 21.5% 23.8% 16.4% 27.9% 26.8%
    Bitmap
    Avg Issued Premium 240 238 222 2801 2630 3104 2892
    Avg Offered Premium
    New Business
    Count
    Avg Full Term Premium
I understand that time series is an option, and have created the time series (which show up as measures).
    My problem is:
when creating the report (even as a pivot table) , OBIEE is not allowing me to drag the measure to rows, nor is it allowing me to drag the time series to columns. Also, I need to do conditional formating on some of the columns showing an up arrow for increased vs. prior month and down arrow for decreased vs. prior month.
Does anyone have a solution for this issue? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...
    Please advise and thanks!!!

    Jason,
You've been very helpful, but I guess I'm just not explaining myself that well. The Credit Memo's throw things off because they do not contain a "Paid Date" value. That field in the record is blank. Since it is blank the report query ignores them. Therefore when the report query returns all records that have a "Paid date" range of "x to y" they are never returned. This is a problem whenever a credit memo exists for an invoice because the "invoice total" never changes. So when a customer pays on their account for a particular invoice, they only pay what is due which is the "invoice total" minus any "credit" from the "Credit Memo". So when my A/R person receives payment they are showing the invoice paid in full because MAS automatically includes all invoices and credit memo's. My report does not because there is no data in the "Paid Date" field of the record for Credit Memos.
I've been doing alot research in trying to resolve this "exception" to my report. I think I may be on to something, but my knowledge of arrays is extremely limited. My resolution involves populating an array with the "invoice numbers" that are returned from the initial query from the supplied date range. Then using the "invoice numbers" from the array have it then populate my details section of the report with all of "invoice records" both the actual invoice record and any "credit memo" records. I can then group the records returned  based upon the "invoice number". then within that grouping I can performing my calculations to show whether or not the invoice has been paid in full. What do you think?  I've been able to populate an array with the invoice numbers based upon my date search range, but I have yet to figure out how to take that information and perform another lookup to pull in the rest of the data I need. Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks.  Bill
