Reporting Functionality in SQL Developer?

Can someone explain to me the reporting capabilities of this tool?
Are there predefined logical design reports?
Are there predefined physical design reports?
I just dont see any predefined reporting fucntionality.
Thanks
Mark

OK now I see that there are a few (like three) reports for the data side of things but I dont see any process level reports.
I am now reading all the help docs on reports...........
Are there any Process Model reports?
I am supprised that there arnt more caned reports in this tool.

  • Demonstrating PL/SQL Functions Using SQL Developer

    Good afternoon,
    I'm starting to write some PL/SQL functions to replace some of the SQL that I use most frequently.  A couple of very simple examples would be:
    create or replace function func_test (p_1 number) return number
    is
    x number;
    y number;
    begin
    x :=1;
    y :=2;
    return p_1 * x * y;
    end func_test;
    create or replace function func_test2 (p_1 varchar2) return varchar2
    is
    return_val varchar2(10);
    begin
    select p_1 into return_val from dual;
    return return_val;
    end func_test2;
    However, at my workplace I haven't been granted create function privileges yet until I can demonstrate some examples, which is understandable.
    For the time being, without these privileges, is there a way I can build/test functions in principle locally using SQL Developer without the need to write the functions to our database? I.e. can I demonstrate the above in SQL Developer, but without wrapping in create or replace syntax?
    I hope this isn't too vague.
    Using Oracle 11gR2 (not logged in to workplace database at the moment for specific version no.)
    SQL Developer 3.4
    Thanks,
    TP

    populating test DB with data is a solvable problem.
    You don't need client data to test code (functions).
    You only need sample test data; which generally is less than a few dozen records per table.
    Absolutely, of course. Our client database is pretty messy though, and includes data prior to the implementation of more recent business rules that I need to take account of. Useful perspective though, thanks.
    rp0428 02-Nov-2013 19:14 (in response to TinyPenguin)
    Sure, but then I wouldn't have access to all the data in our client database to test functions under various circumstances.
    Huh? Why not? It's your database so what keeps you from creating a database link to your client database where all the data is?
    Also, I suppose it's not good practice to constantly write/replace/drop functions to/from a database when developing them? Better to test the function in principle and then write to the database?
    Huh? Why not? What you think a dev database is for if not for development?
    Based on your two posts so far in this thread it's understandable why they don't want to give you privileges yet. Those sample 'functions' you posted are NOT a good use for functions.
    In sql developer you can just create and save the queries you use most often. There is no need to create functions for that.
    But if you do need an anonymous function now and then just create one using sql*plus syntax:
    Our IT department are pretty sensitive about how they allow access, even to the dev environment. As you've identified, I'm not naturally a programmer so the option to play around with the data to develop some representative examples about how we can simplify and devolve SQL reporting to more members of staff is useful to me. I just wrote those two function quickly for the purpose of posting some sample data, which I thought would be helpful. Thanks for illustrating how to return their output using an anonymous block.
    FrankKulash 02-Nov-2013 19:13 (in response to TinyPenguin)
    Hi,
    The obvious solution is to get the privileges.  If your employer really wants you to do something, they need to give you the necessary privileges to do it.  It's silly for them to tell you to do something, but refuse to let you do it.
    Failing that, you can install Oracle on your own machine, as suggested above.  It's free and legitimate if you're only using it for learning and developing.  Oracle Express Edition is very easy to install.
    As a last resort, you can write functions and procedures that are local to an anonymous block, like this:
    Thanks Frank. Yeah I'm going to speak with our DBA next week about privileges. I've got XE/SQL Developer installed on my own computer - I wrote those sample functions using them - I just wasn't sure how to call/return anonymous blocks as both you and rp identified to develop at work as an interim solution.
    Thanks a lot All,
    TP.

  • Using XML functions in SQL Developer

    Hi,
    I'm using OSD 1.5.3 on a WinXP machine. I love OSD and use it every day! But I think i found a little bug. When you use some Oracle XML functions like (XMLELEMENTS and XMLAGG) in your query (these functions return CLOB values) it hangs OSD.
    For Example:
    SELECT XMLELEMENT("Relation",
    XMLELEMENT("Name", 'Dennis'),
    XMLELEMENT("DateOfBirth", '09/28/1975')
    ) as Relation
    FROM DUAL;
    Are there some parameters I can set to prevent this, or is this a bug?
    Kind Regards,
    D.

    Your query works fine for me from SQL Dev 1.5.3 (JDK 1.6.0_06), using either a JDBC or TNS connection (Oracle Client 9.2) to a 10.2.0.3 DB. Another thing which I have no idea if it is relevant (someone else may be able to say) is the following line from Help > About > Properties:
    oracle.xdkjava.compatibility.version     9.0.4
    Given that it works fine over TNS connections from SQL*Plus and PL/SQL Developer, I would assume that it is something related to your SQL Developer setup, unless you are using a different version of the Oracle client for these tools.

  • Schedule Report in Oracle SQL Developer

    Just wonder if Oracle SQL Developer has capability to setup a schedule to run reports automatically as Microsoft*SQL does.
    Please advise.

    No, but its a feature request we see regularly. Check out the feature requests at http://SQLDeveloper.oracle.com.

  • Is it possible to query software inventory report for Oracle SQL developer installation?

    Hi all
    My company requires to generate a report of all kinds of Oracle database access tool. I can find Toad installation from Add/Remove Program and therefore can query for Toad.
    However, Oracle SQL developer is using Java. I cannot see an entry for Oracle SQL developer from Add/Remove Program. Is there a way to query inventory for Oracle SQL developer installation?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    Lic

    You might be able to use software inventory to report on the version of sqldeveloper.exe.
    As the app looks like just a zip you extract to a custom location that might be one method.

  • Package, Function in SQL Developer

    DB 10gR2
    SQL Developer 2.1.1.64
    I can see the following package's code on my SQL Developer
    create or replace PACKAGE zero AS
    FUNCTION one (P_TABLE VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2;
    FUNCTION two RETURN VARCHAR2;
    END zero;
    But I can't find function one or function two on the left hand side navigation. Why can't I see the codes for both of the function? and how do I see the codes of those function?
    Thanks

    You are seeing the package specification. To see the body (what you call "codes"), you should expand the package's navigator node and click on the body exposed just below.
    Hope that helps,
    K.

  • About creating functions in SQL Developer

    I have successfully installed Oracle SQL Developer.Also I have got a book on Oracle SQL Developer by Dan Hotka.
    After going through the book I could not a solution for creating and compiling functions without any errors.

    How about going through the tutorial inside the online help (Help - Table of Contents - Tutorial)?

  • Interactive report - Function returning SQL query

    i notice that it is not possible to create an interactive report based on a function call. can anyone shed any light on why this is?
    also, is there a work around possible? i really dont want to store my SQL query inside a page in the application

    Craig,
    I tried the collection workaround as well but noticed that it gets incredible slow when data sets grow bigger. Depending on what you need maybe my solution is of help for you:
    I used multiple subpages with interactive reports, an iframe and a javascript function setting the iframe-src on the main page, see my last post on
    interactive report custom GO-Button (-process)

  • SQL Developer user defined reports (appropriate utilization)

    I have used SQL developer on a limited basis but I have never created a user defined report. Can someone compare and contrast the
    types of user defined reports that can be created via SQL developer versus the types of user defined reports that can be created via
    a tool such as Crystal Reports or similar tool.

    Hi user7753875 -
    I agree with reidelme that it won't match the capabilities for fancy organisation/output of tools like Crystal Reports, but you can do interrelated parent/multiple child reports.
    Check out the Reports tab on the SQL Developer Exchange for some examples of what other users have done with this.

    Turns out no one has used that in a long time. You will have to do some interpretive cut/past from xml given by web site & report editor in SQL Developer. Here is the "Who" report (master+2 child reports) from the exchange in a format you can use the import function from "User Defined Reports" on.

  • Sql developer with compute function/ add total to column.

    Hello experts i've been strugglin for a couple of hours on this. and im not sure if this is the forum i should be posting this but i could not found a forum directly related to sql developer.
    I would like to use the compute function in sql developer but it does not appear to work can someone please point me in the right direction.
    i followed this documentation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ch6.htm
    but it does not seem to do the trick. I basically just would like to add a total at the end of my query ?...
    can someone throw me a bone on this one.
    Miguel

    column DUMMY NOPRINT
    compute sum of aamt on DUMMY
    break on  dummy
      select a_fa_idoc, b_fr_idoc, a_amt, b_amt, (a_amt-b_amt)
      from
       (SELECT  a.fa_idoc a_fa_idoc,  SUM(a.amt) a_amt from fwrinva  a group by a.fa_idoc) fwarinva_summary
      inner join
       (SELECT  b.fr_idoc b_fr_idoc,   sum(b.amt) b_amt from  fwrinvc b group by b.fr_idoc) fwrinvc_summary
       on( fwarinva_summary.a_fa_idoc = fwrinvc_summary.b_fr_idoc)
      where (a_amt - b_amt) = 0;here is my query but it does not put a total on the end?

  • Is it possible to disable Export connections functionality (Connections view) in SQL developer?

    Hi,
    because of some security reasons, there is a need to disable export connections functionality in SQL developer.
    Is it possible to do this somehow?
    Many thanks,
    Dejan

    Not that I know of.
    Even if we did, they are still stored in a file that most of your users would be able to access.
    You can however disable the ability to save passwords.
    And exporting connections now do not include passwords by default, although you can include them if you supply an additional password.

  • How to see data modeller reports in sql developer?

    How to see data modeller reports in sql developer?

    1) export your design to existing schema in Oracle database
    2) define connection to that schema in SQL Developer
    3) find "Data Modeler Reports" in reports window of SQL Developer - probably "design rules" are more interesting here

  • Missing SQL Developer functions when connecting to MS SQL Server 2005

    Hi all,
    I've connected SQL Developer to a ms sql server db. Now I can't use the functions from SQL Developer like
    - Drag&Drop tables to the sql-sheet,
    - autocompletition of attributes (Strg+Space).
    Is this function not supported or do I have to change some preferences?
    THX Steve

    Unfortunately most of the advanced functions of SQL Developer are supported only for oracle databases, so on ms sql, or almost anything else you can do little more than browse data.

  • Sql developer import function

    Hi I need to import multiple records (5000) in a table . I am using sql developer 1.5.1 but import function is not working properly. please suggest the steps .
    thanks
    Ruchi

    I would say that the import function in Sql Developer is still evolving...
    So far I have tried it in 1.5.1 (where it mostly does NOT work, especially with Excel files), with 1.5.3 (where I think works the best) and with 1.5.4 where new import requirements make it unnecessarily hard to work with.
    What I mean by that, is that although in 1.5.3 you can match your CSV text columns to existing Table columns, in 1.5.4 you immediately get an error and the import aborts if the CSV text columns do not match in number and name the existing table column. I would like to have the option to match the columns myself, since I do not always have the luxury of importing all the columns with the names provided in the CSV file.

  • Help required in developing SQL developer extension

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to develop an extension for Sql Developer. The requirement matches the Reports framework in Sql Developer.
    We need to have a separate dock as in reports where we can navigate through the tree and execute some predefined queries.
    I implemented this using the Docking Sample of Sql Developer extensions. I am able to show a separate dock with the tree hieararchy of the nodes and adding context menus to the nodes.
    But , the problem is how do we integrate this UI with the queries and how do we prompt the user to select the connections and other bind variables.
    We can do this by using an XML file and importing it in the reports. But, we need a separate dock for our functionality.
    I tried modifying the reports API by obtaining the code from the oracle.sqldeveloper.report.jar . But , facing problems while compiling the modified code to a jar.
    Any help in this regard is appreciated.

    Sorry for that,
    Here is what I did,
    Create a variable for posting period
    Put posting period in column.
    Create 2 selections for the KF.
    Restrict 1st sel from Jan – Variable-1
    Restrict 2nd sel from Variable – Dec
