Reporting Services (SSRS) connecting to a Tabular data model: losing formatting

Hi all,
we are developing a SSAS Tabular data model to enable users to connect to it via:
- excel pivot table
- power view reports
- reporting services reports
We invested a lot of time in correctly setting the format of the different columns directly in the data model, in order to have the same consistence format layout in all the reporting clients. For example currencies column with no decimals and with thousand
separator, percentage with just 1 decimal and with the % symbol, date in short date format and so on.
The same with KPIs: for every KPI we decided in the data model which representation to use
When using excel pivot table or power view reports everything works ad expected.
When using Reporting Services instead all the formatting chosend in the data model is gone and also the KPI representations. Why? Is there a way to have them also in SSRS?
Thank you,
Roberto

  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Pricing (2014)

I'd like to know what would cost to use SSRS on Azure. As Windows Azure SQL Reporting will be discontinued on 10/31/2014, I tried to find licensing options for SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) running on Windows Azure Virtual Machines (VM). I guess
I need to purchase a VM on Azure. But what other licenses are needed? Do I need a separate SQL Server licence if I already have Windows Azure SQL Database? Is there also a price for using SSRS on a VM?
Can please provide the alternatives with pricing or a link with this information.
    Thank you.

    hi Martin,
Base on my understanding, if we use predefined image (included sql server), we don't need use license , see this toturail (http://blog.aditi.com/cloud/hosting-sql-reporting-service-on-azure-virtual-machine/
). Or if we want install sql server on azure VM, we need purchase the license of sql server. If you only use SSRS on VM, I think you could only purchase slq server license. I recommend you refer to this page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/gg430130.aspx#bkmk_new
) and this Compare licensing fees using the pricing calculator .
If I misunderstood, please let  me know.

  • Tabular data model: Query keeps timing out when attempting to Edit Table Properties

    Tabular data model (SSDT)
Problem: I have a table in tabular data model using a SQL Query for a data source. The query in question requires about 3 minutes to regenerate. When I open Edit Table Properties for this data source the query times out and I get an error (see below): "
Failed to retrieve data from udvTrainJobReportsData. Reason: Query timeout expired"
This seems to happen anytime I use a query that takes longer than a couple of minutes to regenerate. Anyone have an idea on how to get around this. Is there a timeout setting somewhere in tabular data model that can be increased?
    Thanks...

    Hi ManikantM,
According to your description, you query keeps time out when edit table properties. Right?
In this scenario, this error is thrown when connection or query execution exceeds the time out value. Please try to import this table and then increase the connection time out seconds.
We can increase to ExternalCommandTimeout in Analysis Server Properties. Please refer to link below:

  • Add SQL reporting services to get Azure sql db data

    Dear all,
I have read recently that SQL server reporting services as been remmoved from Azure services. I have a SQL server database on azure which collect different type of data which are collected from a web admin portal by my users.
I have a strong need to bring to that admin web portal a flexible reporting solution for my users to monitor collected data.
Of course I can bring dash board to web application but often it is painful to change web app when a user want different type of report.
What could be the way now to use online reporting service in orde to bring online report for my user of my sql azure database ?
    regards
    serge

    Hi serge,
Based on my understanding, you want to use SQL Azure database to design the report, right?
    As you mentioned,
Azure SQL Reporting is officially discontinued, so that we can’t design reports with Azure SQL Reporting. However, only the Azure cloud implementation of SQL Reporting is discontinued. All other forms of Reporting Services technology are unaffected. In
Reporting services, it’s supported connect to SQL Azure database. So in your scenario, you can connect to the SQL Azure database to design the report. For more information, please refer to this article:
How to connect to SQL Azure using SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2.

  • Reporting Services 2012 - "Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded"

    Running SharePoint 2010 SP1 (Feb-Mar 2012 CU)
Is there any official word from Microsoft regarding the issue with SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 for SharePoint where 2 of the reporting service application databases show "Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded".
ReportingServiceDB  -  Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded
ReportingServiceDB_Alerting  -  Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded
I'm building the new Reporting Services into a new DEV environment and I'd like to know what the official word is from Microsoft.  Is Reporting Services 2012 ready for production?
    Thanks!

    Hi mikea730,
    Thanks for your psot.
Based on my research, I found a similar thread about this issue at Microsoft Contect site. For more information, please see:

  • Reporting services button not auto loading the data

    Hi,
I am having issues loading data from reporting services (using the reporting services button). When I click on the "refresh on load" box, is not pulling the data automatically. The data gets pulled only if I press the button. Also, the trigger cell feature is not working either. This all started happening when I installed sp1. In the first version of excelsius 2008 engage I had no problem. Also I am pulling data based on date range, the data only pulls automatically if I type the numbers in the cells, if I calculated the date range it no longer works and i have to press the reporting services button for it to pull the data.
is there any setting  or a hot fix or some known issues about this?
Also, I also opened a model that I had created with first version of excelsius 2008 using sp1. The model did not automatically loaded the data.  The flash file of that module works fine (since it was created with the earilier version).
I am sure there is a bug on the reporting services button.
Edited by: Ricardo Rivera on Oct 23, 2008 12:06 AM

    Hi,
I just upgraded to the new SP fix. I tested, based on an old file that automatically pulls the data from reporting services, but it didnt work. I still have to test it building from scratch using this new version. I dont think they have corrected the reporting services button issue.
    Thanks

  • Upgrade SharePoint 2007 SSRS integrated mode to SharePoint 2013 Reporting Service (SSRS-2014)

    Hi
We are upgrading a SP-2007 site with SSRS integrated reports to SP-2013 and SSRS-2014. As there are many changes done in SP-2013, I would like to know if any of the existing SP-2007 reporting service database need to upgraded to SP-2013 or just upgrading
the SP-2007 content database to SP-2013 and creating a new Reporting Service application will be working fine?
    Thanks,
    Pat

You'll want to do a few things:
Export the encryption key from the SSRS Configuration application in SharePoint 2007.
Migrate the content database from SharePoint 2007 SP2+ to SharePoint 2010, to finally SharePoint 2013.
    Install SSRS 2012 SP1+ on SharePoint 2013.
Migrate the SSRS databases to the SharePoint 2013 SQL Server.
Create a new SSRS Service Application in SharePoint 2013 using the same named databases on the new SQL Server.
Import the encryption key to the SSRS SA.

  • Connection to SQL Developer Data Modeler Fails

    All,
I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 3.0.0.665 in an Oracle 10g database environment. When I try to import DDLs, I get the following error message:
    NoSuchMethodError:
oracle.i18.ntext.converter.CharacterConverterOGS.getInstance(I)Loracle/i18n/text/converter/CharacterConverter;I use the same connection profile in Oracle SQL Developer version 1.5.0.53, and my connection works fine there, but the same credentials in SQL Developer Data Modeler fails with the above error message. Any thoughts what causes this connection problem?
    Thank you,
    Seyed

    Hi Philip,
Thank you so much for the information. Your suggested solution resolved my problem. For some reason when I first installed the Data Modeler, it worked fine and I was able to save the result into PDF files. Then my connection went bad and I posted this question on this forum.
    Again thank you very much,
    Seyed

  • Reporting Services connections are getting dropped by Oracle RAC

My current customer is using Oracle RAC (11g) for their data store. They currently are using SQL Server Reporting Services to connect to it. We are experiencing an issue where the connection appears to be redirected at the server which causes the connection to be lost with the client.
I am curious if this is "by design" or if we need to review some configuration settings to better handle this.
We have 3 VIPs fronting the RAC and they are all specified in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
Any feedback or input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    I suggest you look at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/awm11gr2-130711.pdf
and the similar paper from 11.1:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/awmrac11g-133673.pdf
This explains the basic concept, of how clients should connect to the database, and probably clarifies your issue.
In generall Oracle will not redirect during runtime, only during connection time.
This however should not be of an issue, if you connect to a service. (You shouldn't connect to a SID since 8.1.7 anymore).

  • Data Collector Reports not available for SQL Reporting Services only SSMS

I never understood this one, why would you program Reporting Services (SSRS) reports inside SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)?
The reports are available only through the SSMS interface, buried somewhere in the GUI, not easy to find.
Please make the MDW reports available on Reporting Services!

    Hello,
These are not SSRS reports, these are RDLC reports for local rendering in a client application like SSMS; similar, but not the same. The reports are embedded as a resource in an assembly, that's
the reason why you can't find them.
You can have a SQL Server installation without Reporting Services; where should be the reports hosted then, if not in SSMS?
You can create your own SSRS based report; simply use SQL Profiler to capture the queries used by the origin reports.

  • CM 2012 Reporting Services displays an error

When attempting to edit a Config Manager 2012 report, I get the followign error:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)
I have imported the server certificate into my workstation, without success.
The registry has been edited to display version 3 instead of version 2
Logged into my machine with an account that is an administrator level to Config Manager 2012
Anyone have any ideas why I cannot connect?

    Hi RichChian,
As per my understanding, we should import the SQL certificate to the remote report services certificate store from the primary database servers certificate store. For more details, please see the following thread:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/add3e017-6166-4443-b9f2-9898e4e0c843/report-builder-unable-to-connect-to-data-source
Besides, the issue can be also caused by the data source for the CM12 reporting service sets these values in the data connection string for the data source for your SSRS report:
    Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=<siteDB>;Data Source=<DBserverFQDN>;Encrypt=true;TrustServerCertificate=false
We can refer to the following blog for the detail resolution:

  • Too high TimeDataRetrieval(15 mins) of a report is making us restart the reporting services

    Hi,
We have an SSRS report which is taking less than a minute to open on development server. Same report on production server is taking more than 15 minutes to retrieve the data; rendering and processing time is very small comparatively which is not an
issue. When we restart the reporting services on the production server, retrieval time is reducing from 15 minutes to less than a minute.
Please help us in rectifying this critical issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Simple Living, High Thinking.. :)

    Hi RamukNarik,
    Sorry for my delay.
In SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), TimeDataRetrieval is includes time spent opening connections to the data source and time spent reading data rows from the data extension.
If a report has multiple data sources/data sets that can be executed in parallel, TimeDataRetrieval contains the duration of the longest DataSet, not the sum of all DataSets durations.  If DataSets are executed sequentially, TimeDataRetrieval contains
the sum of all DataSet durations.
If the TimeDataRetrieval is high, the data source could be a bottleneck, or the queries retrieve lots of data.  If the there is a high RowCount, lots of data is being retrieved - we might want to review the dataset queries.  If high volumes of
data are grouped, sorted, and aggregated, high EstimatedMemoryUsageKB values for Processing are very likely. More detail information you can refer to these articles about
    Analyzing and Optimizing Reports and
    Troubleshooting Report Performance.

  • [Forum FAQ] How do I add an average line to series group on SQL Server Reporting Services column chart?

    Introduction
In SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS), you may need an average value on column chart.
For the above chart, add an average score line to the chart, you can get which student’s score is larger than average score, and which student’s score is less than average score clearly. This document demonstrates how to add an average line to series groups
    on SSRS column chart.
    Solution
To achieve this requirement, you can add another values to the chart, change the chart type to line chart. Set the value to average value of the series group and set the line to show only once by using expression. Please refer to the link below to see the
    detail steps.
Click the chart to display the Chart Data pane.
Add Score field to the Values area.
Right-click the new inserted Score1 and select Change Chart Type. And then change chart type to line chart in the Select Chart Type window.
Change the Category Group name to Subject. Here are the screenshot for you reference.
Right-click the new inserted Score1 and select Series Properties.
Click the expression button on the right of Value field textbox, type the expression below:
    =Avg(Fields!Score.Value,"Subject"))
Click Visibility in the left pane, select “Show or hide based on an expression”, and type in the expression below:
    =IIF(Fields!Name.Value="Rancy",FALSE,TRUE)
Name in the expression is one of the Students. Then only one line chart is be displayed by using this expression.
Click Legend in the left pane, type Average_Score to the Custom legend text box.
    The report looks like below:
    Applies to
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    Thanks,
Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
    in a supported way?
