Reports 3.0 OLE 2 Objects

Does anybody know if it is possible to display an OLE2 image
over the web when compiling the report in .pdf format ?
I know it is possible if you compile in .html format using the
URL Link functionality, but the format quality ( e.g. fonts,
tables, colours etc ) is better using .pdf.

Magoo is talking about a patch 23, and you are on 11. Maybe that's the difference?
You can also try to upgrade just the Oracle 8 client (I assume Developer 2000 uses the 8 client). We did that to resolve some issues for Developer 6i on a 9i database.
You need to get Oracle8 8.0.6.3.8 patch.

  • Crystal report AS ole object into word

I've been searching the web on using crystal reports as an OLE object inside a word document, but all results have been about using a word document inside a crystal report.
I am trying to create a quarterly report document for a  business. This document is built using MS word. The document needs to include various tables, charts and the like, which they want to build in crystal reports so that they can be used either as part of the quarterly or as standalone reports.
I would like to embed these reports into MS Word. Ideally, every three months the reports would be updated with new parameters, the word document would be opened, and the linked OLE reports would display the updated data tables and charts.
I'm not sure if this is possible. I just attempted to embed a crystal report inside a word 2007 document, but the OLE object only showed up as an object containing the report filename, not the actual report.
Can crystal act as an ole server for a word document to do what I want it to do, or will I need to programatically export the batch of crystal reports to images in order to have them show up in the word document?

if you have business objects enterprise & live office, you can use Business Objects Live Office to embed the following from crystal reports into word or excel or powerpoint:
    1) charts
    2) cross tabs
    3) summaries
    4) fields
    to name a few.
you can also use prompts in the word doc to allow you to change up the above on the fly.

  • Memory problem if OLE-object references to WMF files

    Hi there,
I have a report with an OLE object containing WMFs.
The graphic files are variable and their name is loaded from the database during runtime (path + filename).
Running the report leads to 185 pages, each one containing a different WMF.
If I preview the report in CR, everything looks fine.
If I print the report, the OLE object / graphic is left empty....
If I export the report to PDF (as an example) I get the error message 'memory full'. Reducing the data set to ~50, the PDF is created. But the pictures get resized (much bigger) and only parts are visible.
The machine I'm using doesn't have any memory problems.
The WM files are only 3 to 12 KB each.
If I convert the WMFs to JPG and use these within the report it works...
Problem with this: a loss of quality (it is necessary to stretch the pictures to certain size)
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    Susanne
I'm using CR 2008 SP 3 on Windows 2003 Server

Format the pictures outside of CR for best results.

  • How to insert ole object like word doc at runtime

To insert word doc into crystal report

    Hi Vinod,
To add an OLE object in reports follow the steps given below-
1- In CR environment open a Report in which OLE object needs to be added.
2- Click on insert and click on OLE object.
3- A wizard pops up - choose appropriate file for e.g- Microsoft World Document.
4- two buttons will be there-
a> Create new - creates a new world document.
b> Create from new - Includes a exsisting file.
5- one more option is their in wizard -
Show icon(check box) - shows the OLE object as an icon in report.
6- Click on ok and place the object at required position in report.
    Hope it works.

  • OLE object problem

I'm trying to make a report with OLE object in CR9 on XP Professional SP3. There is an image file "file_01.bmp". I place it in the report from "Insert"->"OLE Object" and chose "Create from file" with file path (not as icon, as image). But what I get in the report is black square with "file_01.bmp" caption below, and so in the report preview area. Double-clicking on it causes Object Packager warning.
What should I do to get an image (linked with a disk file) in report?
    Thanks in advance.

I am having a simular issue as well.  I finally got this to work on my laptop (where I have Crystal XI installed).  I can also access the report from another computer with Crystal Runtime installed and it does update the graphic file as well, however, I cannot get this to work on my desktop computer.  I have temporarily installed Crystal XI on the desktop to test this.  Both Laptop and desktop have windows XP SP3 and most of the same applications installed.  Here is what happens:
    1) When I open the report, I get a message "Some Links could not be updated becasue thier sources are presently unavailable"
    2) If I select the Links button I get a dialog that shows me the .bmp file.
    3) I then select the Open Source button and I get a message "Failed to launch server application"
    4) I open the report again and this time I select the Change Source and a dialog comes up asking me to select the source file.
    5) I then select the source file and I get this message "Invalid Source:Do you want to correct it?"
    6) I then select the Yes button, but nothing happens
The bmp file was created with Paint and Paint is registered for bmp files.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

  • Linked OLE Object on a Web Server

I searched for the answer to this, and haven't found it.  If it's already been answered, and I missed it, I apologize.
I have a report (several actually) that has a link to a MS Word document.  It was added to the report as an OLE object, type "Document", update "Automatic".  The location of the document is C:\Program Files\Common Files\AppName\BlahBlah.DOC.
The report is installed in two places.  In one place, C:\Program Files\AppName\ , I have a winforms app that opens and displays it.  The report links dynamically and works like a champ.  Changes to the document appear in the report.
The report is also installed to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\AppName\Reports.  There's a web app running there that prints the report.  It looks good, except it only shows the snapshot of the original document as it was when the report was created.  Changes to the .DOC are not appearing.
I'm sure the problem is that the path to the document is in the C:\Program Files\ ...  directory which isn't in the web path of C:\inetpub\wwwroot\AppName.  Normally, a web server can only see the files in it's own directory tree, as that is it's root directory.
When the document is originally added to the report, it won't let me set the link as "./Reports/BlahBlah.DOC".  That would solve the problem.  But it stores the full path, which isn't available to the web app.
I'm sure theres something simple that I must do to make this work, but I haven't found a solution yet (perhaps because the answer is too simple).  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Glenn
    Please provide following information:
1.Version of crystal reports(HELP>>About Crystal reports)
2.Is crystal reports embedded in any other application
    3.What is your runtime environment(.NET,Java)
    4.Are you programatically modifying report(s).
    FYI -
1.In crystal reports stand-alone application(XI Release 1,XI Release 2,CR 2008),user is able to insert a .doc and when the 'Link' checkbox is checked (while inserting the doc into the report),the changes are automatically reflected.
2.As a test, you can create a new report (in any of the versions mentioned above)on Xtreme sample database(using odbc connection and the "Xtreme sample database 11.5" dsn),and insert an OLE object in the report.
    Thanks

  • Attention!!-don't use OLE object in Reports

If you are planning to use or is currently using OLE objects in Reports-please don't use it as the object maynot reload in future and your report may not even open in Report Builder.I got this message when opening the report containing OLE object:
REP-4004: Error occurred while restoring OLE object
and it refused to open up crashing my days of work.
The pity is I can't open my report even to remove the OLE object.

I know that is weird.I placed the object in the same directory-but in vain.Afterall, what's the logic of putting it in the same directory after embedding it?

    Thank you

Possible, but remember that only the 1st page of the word doc will be added - same as in the CR designer.
There is a number of sample apps at [this|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/samples?rid=/webcontent/uuid/80774579-b086-2b10-db91-ed58c4dda375] link. Add image sample may be good to look at.

  • Ole object not visible on oracle report

    Hi,
I have an oracle report built in oracle report 6i builder I have used a Boilerplate OLE Object(image.bmp) in the report but when I am executing the report on Oracle E Business(Application) then that OLE object is not visible on the report output(output is in the pdf format).
Please help me out with this
    Thanks in advance

If you want to display an image on your report, use Link File as item type in the Layout Editor.
Note that the image has to be accessable from the Reports Server.

  • Crystal Reports 10 and OLE Bitmap Objects

    Greetings, all!
I need some help in getting a Bitmap Image file (BMP) to dynamically display on a Crystal form. We have it currently running as an OLE object inserted into the form. The actual image displayed can vary, so immediately prior to running the form, the desired image file is copied to a specific location with a specific name. This works great... until we implemented the solution on our client's system. That is our problem.
Rather than than refreshing the BMP image at run time, the form displays the last image it was able to successfully load. When I open the form in Crystal Reports, it displays the "Updating ActiveX options" message along with the progress bar, but then puts up the message, "Some links could not be updated because their sources are presently unavailable." When I try to verify the file path and file name of the OLE object within Crystal, it says that the object is invalid.
    Here are some environment details.
    1. The version is "Crystal Reports 10 for Sage" (version 10.0.5.820). This is because the Crystal software is bundled with the accounting application software, Sage MAS 500 version 7.05.18.0.
    2. My operating system is Microsoft Windows 2000, 5.00.2195, Service Pack 4. The configuration runs great here.
    3. The client's operating system is Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Service Pack 2. This is where it does not work.
Here is what I have tried so far:
    1. I referenced the following forum thread...
    OLE Linked Object
... and tried updating the registry as it describes. This did not work.
    2. I referenced the following forum thread...
    Re: OLE object problem
...but I did not have a clear understanding of what it was explaining. I was uncertain about the reference of setting mspaint.exe as an OLE Automation server, etc.
That's it. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. The client's software and operating system are pretty much fixed, so I'm afraid I won't be able to oblige any suggestings to upgrade these. If you need any additional information, I will be more than happy to provide it.
    Thanks in advance!

This issue has been resolved. We found that when the customer ran the statement on a client workstation rather than on the server, the OLE bitmap objects refreshed as expected. I am therefore closing this issue.

  • Doubt , how to display ole objects in report builder

Please tell me, how to display ole objects in report builder.
I mean i wanted to print ole object in report, so how to do that.

    Just to clarify Lixia's response.
In Reports 9i we have deprecated our OLE functionality. Reports created in prior versions that contain OLE objects should still run, but you will not be able to create new reports containing OLE objects.

  • Ole Object in Report

    Hi!
We r trying to embed an OLE Object (gif, bmp) in the report . The report shows the logo (gif) when run thru client server but when run thru Application server no image is shown. Can anyone tell what is the problem.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Srini,
OLE doesn't work on teh Web. Creating a Report for the Web converts the output to HTML, HTMLCSS or PDF. The OLE container gets excluded which is why the image is not shown. Work around is instead of using OLE to include images, to reference them on the filesystem of the Server (or database).

  • Display data on OLE object (form) in Crystal Report

    Hi All,
I m using Crystal Reports 2008. We have Business Objects XI 3.1 SP3 environment.
I have a crystal report with OLE object embedded in it. The OLE Object is a form on which the database fields and the formula fields are supposed to be displayed. The OLE Object form has multiple lines (rows) and sections. I have a formula field that sometimes brings multiple records and I want to be able to display those records as rows (one below the other) on the same page until all rows on the form are filled. I have 2 problems:
    1. When the formula field brings more than 1 record, only one record is displayed on one page and the next record goes and prints on the next page i.e. the records are not being displayed below each other.
    2. How do I make sure that the records display on the next page of the report once all empty lines/rows on the OLE object form are filled?
    Your replies are much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
if I understand correctly, your OLE object is a form and your data needs to display on it.
What you can do is, inserting the OLE object on page header and then in the section expert, click "Underlay the following section".
Note that the structure of Crystal report is RH, PH, GH, Details.
So, if you insert OLE object in Page Header (PH) and you have a group, underlaying the OLE means displaying the object underlay Group Header (GH).
So, it is a bit of twisting to do and your OLE object needs to fit well as in A4 (or the paper size you need) consistently.
