Reports 6: Character format within the field

Is it possible to apply different types of formatting (bold,italic,font size changes and font type changes) to a text within same field using Oracle Reports 6i? We are generating PDF files using Oracle Reports (legal documents) that must have proper formatting within the field and can't find way of doing it dynamically. Text for the field is pulled from the database - it is not hard-coded in report.
Is this available in Ver 9/10?

Hi Dejan,
You can get the desired output in HTML format in 9i/10g. Look at the "Contains HTML Tags" property in Builder Online Help. However, for PDF output this is not currently supported.

1. Use the mouse to select the field and then press the space bar.
2. A null string is the same as zero. What is the result for division by zero?

Apply character formats in the Marker window

We need the ability to apply character formats (including superscript and subscript) in the Marker window. I use this feature to generate LOM files, which are greatly helpful, but after generation, I must edit the file directly to apply character tags to individual items to correspond with the style of the text from which the markers have been generated.
For example, I have a list of warnings at the beginning of my book. I place a marker in each warning in the chapters to generate the list of markers. Some of the warnings in the chapters contain the product name which includes an Italic character and a superscript registration character. (The client's style is to use the registration character at every instance.) When I place the text in the Marker window, I have no way to include the character formats for Italics and superscript. Therefore, when the list of warnings is generated, the product name is not styled correctly, and I must edit every instance in that file--every time I generate for a revision.
If the Marker window would accept character format codes like the Variable window does, the problem would be solved.

I've never done a LOM, but if you are pulling across text at the marker, and LOMs work like TOCs, try the following.
Apply a Character format to the source text with the attributes you need.
Make sure that format also exists in the Character Catalog of the LOM file.
In the case of TOCs, this causes the TOC lines to use that Character format (as defined in the TOC, as long as the format name is the exactly the same).

The value entered does not match the format of the field

I am trying to do a simple division of profit by sales to find the profit %. Here is the script I am using and it doesn't work.

I continue to get the error The value entered doesnot match the format of the field

Are you very sure?
Using
var v1 = 0.05; // "Profit%"
var v2 = 100000; // "Contract1"
v1 / v2; // result of division;
5e-7
That is 5 * 10 exponent -7 or 0.00000005
Set the format to "None"
Also so please post the values you are using.

Output of Report in PDF Format on the Web

I am running my application developed in developer 6i on the web. When is take the output of the reports in HTML format the output comes fine.
But when I set the report output format to PDF from registry the browser does not open the file & gives the message error opeing file. But the file is accurately created in server's temporary directory which can be opened separately without reports server.
I am using IE 5 & also tried 6.
I have installed Forms & reports server from developer 6i CD without 9iAS.
Somebody gave me the answer that there is some bug in reports server. Is it really a bug ??? Another thing is if it is a bug, it also exists in 9iAS.

CG36 - Import report - No file format in the key file?

Transaction CG36: .Key files are successfully checked by u2018Check directoryu2019 in transaction CG36. The second step is the import process. The Import shows u2018greenu2019 successfully. But the Job description shows the following message:
No file format in the key file test.key

During the report import (CG36, Dok-X), the workstation application is defined using the FFT entry in the key file, as displayed above, the key file as FTT=PDF defined correctly.
We have processed the customizing settings which are required and described under: Report Import: Check Additional Settings (under EH&S u2013 Product Safety > Interfaces > Import and Export > Basis Settings for Import and Export).
Is anybody familiar with the issue: No file format in the key file?
What do I do wrong? Is the above Key file structure incorrect?
Is configuration in SAP DMS required?

my assumption would be: there is a typing error in the key file. If the content of the key files is like what you have published you must use in the key file
FFT=PDF
and not
FTT=PDF.
No further information is necessary and the other data seems to be perfect.

PS: if necessary my be you could check DMS customizing. By standard EH&S implemenation a document type "IBD" should be there whiich is used for e.g. pdf file.
PPS: I have no idea why the reimport check does not show up this issue.

Crystal Report Windows Forms Viewer error: "The field name is not known"

Hi,
My report runs fine in the Crystal Reports viewer. When we try to view the crystal report through a piece of 3rd party software, I start to get errors in a few of my formulas indicating that "the field name is not known". I can clearly see that the field is in my crystal report. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on what might be happening?

Just to provide some further clarification on my problem:
The "field name is not known" error seems to be occurring only in a few formulas where I have a statement like this:
if ISNULL({somefieldfromdatabase}) Then
I've used this for many other formulas and not had an issue with them. I've verified that the database and the stored procedure contain this field.

How can i make text in a field stay within the field wrap

I need text to wrap in the text field box, please tell me how?

Assuming this is a web form...
You do that by adding a field that is "Text Field (Multiline)" and sizing it appropriately. It's possible to set both a minimum and a maximum limit the number of characters in a field. If your field is sized too small, text will still be able to be entered, and will export just fine, but just might not display fully when viewing on the web or when printing the web page.

I have a little problem with a report I must review. Normally, you run a report and it stop at first page and you can see it. Later, you will can go to next pages or until the end if you want. But this report continues running until the end without stopping. Can anybody help me?

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I've noticed that when you run a report it will generate the number of pages that you viewed the previous time you ran the report. For instance: If I run a report and look at the last page, it will automatically run all of the pages the next time I run the report, however if I only go to page 5 then the next time I run the report it will only generate to page 5.

How to change the automatic character format in Message Editor?

Hi experts,
We use PI 7.31, AAE adapter in our scenario. When we use the message monitor in Adapter Engine, we choose one message and open it in Message editor, we can see the message payload with AUTO Character Format: Windows-1252.
The problem is we have some CN characters and they cannot display in correct formats.
So, is there any way to change the AUTO Character format?
The other question is, can we see the message after mapping in java message monitor?

Hi,
The Quantity field which is used in sales order has a standard Data Type:QUAN
with Decimal Places:3 so u cant change the settings in standard data element CRMT_SCHEDLIN_QUAN
If u want the quantity field without decimals then u need to create a Z data element.

How to refernce the field in the cross-tab report

I'm trying to refer to the field in the cross-tab report using GridRowColumnValue function.
The field name in formulas is DevelopmentTracking_SELECT.Completed, so I'm trying to refer like this:
GridRowColumnValue("DevelopmentTracking_SELECT.Completed")
I'm getting:
"This is not the name of a grid group for the field being formatted."
I've tried different way - gave the name of the field, for instance, or used the name form the Cross-tab expert - Max of DevelopmentTracking_SELECT.Completed, or simply use "Completed" - nothing worked.
I see the possible cause for it. DevelopmentTracking_SELECT.Completed is not a row or column name, in the Cross-tab expert this is a Summarized field. How to reference the field like this correctly?

COLUMN: Anticipated Date, Completed
SUMMARIZED FIELDS: Product Stage
Anyhow try to move the Completed field above the Anticipated Date in SUMMARIZED FIELDS by clicking up arrow.
Now right click on the field Completed go to format field-->write the suppress condition like this

Now right click on the Anticipated Date field and go to font and write the condition for color like this

How can I use SQL to search for a pattern within a field?

I am now faced with this particular scenario, I've got the SQL to search through a field to find text within the field, but I have to know what it is before it can look for it.
What I have to do is this:
Search through a field, for a pattern, and I won't know what the data is I am looking for. Can this be done in SQL?
For instance, Here is my SQL this far, I was helped allot in order to get to this point.

When you execute the above SQL, you have to pass in a value. What I really need is to alter the above SQL, to make it search for a pattern that exist's within the text of the field itself.
Like for instance, lets say the pattern I am looking for is this" xx-xxxxx-xxxx" and it's somewhere in a field.
I need to alter this SQL to take this pattern and search through all the schemas and tables to look for this pattern match.
Can be done?

When you use something dynamically within a function or procedure, roles do not apply and privileges must be granted directly. So, you need to grant select on dba_tab_cols directly. If you want to do pattern matching then you should use regular expressions. The following example grants the proper privileges and uses regexp_instr to find all values containing the pattern xxx-xxxx-xxxx, where /S is used for any non-space character. I limited the tables in order to save time and output for the test, but you can eliminate that where clause.

we are using Crystal Report 2008, Java 1.5.22 and JRC 11.8.4.1094 to export reports in pdf format within java.
It is working fine for all reports except for a specific report where it gives IllegalArgumentException while exporting the PDF.

I searched through the SAP Notes for the error that you are encountering. There is an SAP Note that exists titled the following:
1332907 - Report being exported to PDF format using the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.x runtime, errors with the exception: PdfExporter: caught Exception in PDFFormatter.finalizeFormatJob
Since you may not have access to the SAP Notes, I will extract the details that are mentioned in the note here:

Reproducing the Issue
Using the Crystal Reports for Eclipse runtime version 1.x attempt to export a report to PDF format that has the "Repeat Group Header on Each Page" option enabled.

Cause
When the "Repeat Group Header on Each Page" is enabled for a group in a main report the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.x runtime is unable to correclty format the PDF document which results in an exception.
Resolution
Updating the application to use Crystal Reports for Eclipse version 2.x runtime will resolve the issue.
The most recent updates to the Crystal Reports for Eclipse runtime can be freely downloaded from the SAP SDN Website.

Parameter form which generates a report in delimited format

Hello , I have a parameter form which calls a report in delimited format.
In the RUN_REPORT* (Function Body) in program units , I have made the following modifications :
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(v_report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'DELIMITED');
I get a report in txt format . The problem is that when I convert my txt file to excel , I get the label of each row which repeats the number of records found ! I should have the label appearing once followed by the data . What can I do to make that possible please ?
or if I have a simple query e.g SELECT * FROM BANKS to generate in txt format . Can I write some code in PL/SQL to write the results of such a query in txt format?

I think I got the solution !
I simply need to add the following in my run_report procedure :
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(v_report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'*DelimitedData*');
I get the actual title of each field(as it is in the database) displayed once followed by all records . It's not a perfect solution but I think it will do for now.
