Requiment for Database installation memory and diskspace

hi
Any one have knowledge about Oracle database installation requirement for memory and hard disk space version wise from 2001 to 2010
thanks in advance
regards

The hardware (memory, cpu, disk) requirements for Oracle varied by version and platform. The requirements were listed in the platform specific installation manuals.
If you want to compile a history or chart of requirement changes you would need to get the mentioned platform specific installation manuals and look there.

  • Urgent Help is Needed for Database Installation Problems

    How can we resolve the following database problems in Windows XP? Originally, we had Oracle 10.1.0.4.2, and we wanted to upgrade it to Oracle 10.2.0.1. We uninstalled Oracle Home ORAH1_DEV and then got the following problems while installing Oracle 10.2.0.1. How can we resolve all these errors so database configuration assistants can work successfully? Please help us with these ASAP. Thank you very much for your help and time in advance.

    Yes, I have it installed in the same Oracle Home. Is it possible to create it there? Or I must create a new Oracle Home for the new installation? Please reply as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your help.
    -OyA specific ORACLE_HOME holds the binaries for a specific version of Oracle. You don't upgrade by simply installing a newer version of Oracle into the ORACLE_HOME of an older version. If you tried to do that you have probably irreversibly corrupted the original installation.

  • Hana is a Database or Memory and why BW on Hana?

    Dear Experts,
    I have read few documents regarding Hana and I am confused?
    Following is my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong in my understanding?
    1. I believe Hana is a database(a different kind of data base with Software and hardware) which stores the data and is very fast.
    This Hana Database comprises of both Drive and Ram. Hana's Drive is for storing the Data permanently and Hana's Ram is where the full data from Drive is transferred to Ram and in-memory calculation happens which is very fast.
    2. I read that we can have 2 options,a Standalone Hana which reads data from SAP ERP and BW on Hana. Why do we need to have BW on Hana, we can just have Hana itself right, because even without BW its faster?
    Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Regards
    Sam

    A) hana is a database, which combines memory and technology.
    A common hana server has at leaste 128gb ram. why? because the tables (or columns of that tables) are loaded in memory and are consumed from there. Hana uses compresion (1:11 ratio) and use columnar tables, because it speeds up the data reading from the database.
    Hana have 3 parts of storage:
    1) memory (explained above)
    2) data: the disk where data is recorded
    3) log: the disk where the last transactions are logged and it provides with recovery fails
    B) you can have diferents scenearios (I will explain some of them):
    BW on hana: it speeds up the data access due to hana technology
    suite on hana: ERP and BW on hana
    Hana has your DW database: you can use hana like a common database and benefits your organization with the speed of hana.
    hope it helps.
    this image can show you the diferents scenarios

  • Macbook Pro for HD video -memory and external hard drive questions?

    Hi!
    I am a Macbook user, but I plan to purchase a Macbook Pro since I am now doing a lot of HD (not HDV) video editing. I live outside of the U.S. and cannot call the Apple Store, so was wondering if anyone can provide advice on the forum.
    I'm interested in either the 15-inch: 2.53GHz or 15-inch: 2.66GHz. is there a big difference in speed between these?
    -Is the 4GB memory the MBP comes with enough for HD video editing purposes, or would I opt for the 8GB? (here prices becomes a bit of an issue)
    - Is the 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm sufficient or would I upgrade to the 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm [Add $50.00]
    -I want to purchase an external firewire drive to store my media on-does anyone know if the G-Raid 500 would be good? Portability is a big issue for me since I travel very often.
    Thank you all so much for your help!!

    I looked at the 15inch and 17inch but chose the 17inch - and I am a filmmaker. I too travel on location extensively and usually carry a 15inch due to size-weight - but the 17inch is much better for HD. The video card and screen resolution in the 17inch is much better than than the 15inch but what clinched it for me was the 17inch has a CF reader and the 15inch only has a small SD card reader.
    Most video HD cams are shooting straight to CF cards now.
    I also upgraded to the 7200 rpm drive - a wise choice for $50 extra.
    Yes 4G ram will run Final Cut OK - but if you go from FCP to motion a lot then you will need 8G.

  • Best Practice For Database Parameter ARCH_LAG_TARGET and DBWR CHECKPOINT

    Hi,
    For best practice - i need to know - what is the recommended or guideline concerning these 2 Databases Parameter.
    I found for ARCH_LAG_TARGET, Oracle recommend to setup it to 1800 sec (30min)
    Maybe some one can guide me with these 2 parameters...
    Cheers

    Dear unsolaris,
    First of all if you want to track the full and incremental checkpoints, make the LOG_CHECKPOINT_TO_ALERT parameter TRUE. You will see the checkpoint SCN and the completion periods.
    Full checkpoint is being triggered when a log switch happens and checkpoint position in the controlfile is written in the datafile headers. For just a really tiny amount of time the database could be consistent eventhough it is open and in read/write mode.
    ARCH_LAG_TARGET parameter is disabled and set to 0 by default. Here is the definition for that parameter;
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams009.htm
    If you want to set this parameter up the Oracle recommends it to be 1800 as you have said. This can subject to change from database to database and it is better for you to check it by experiencing it.
    Regards.

  • Exadata Database installation and administration documents please

    I want to learn more about Exadata. Please anybody share the exadata database installation steps and administration documents.
    Appreciate your reply.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
    you can find all the documentation for Exadata on the OTN site : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/exadata/index.html
    However sorry to disappoint you as of now Oracle does not allow any installation or configuration to be done by yourself on the Exadata box hence there is no document with regard to installing and configuring the Exadata. But creating or adding new instances you can do with the DBCA wizard.

    Hello,
    My question is, "Does the A300/M00 have room for Intel Turbo Memory and if so is there a tutorial to placing the module in".
    Regards,

    I dont think it does. Intel dropped the Robson cards earlier this year due to the lack of performance benefits.

    Hi Mahesh,
    According to log file, I find the message ‘The setup100.exe.config file was not found, therefore the DTSWizard and SQLWatson app config files were not replaced’. It seems that the SQL Server setup file is not complete. Please check that if the SQL Server
    setup file is corrupted, if it is corrupted, please download it again and reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2.
    However, if there’s no problem with the setup file, please check that if there is third-party software such as anti-virus software on your computer blocking the process of SQL Server installation. In addition, make sure that you choose ‘Run as administrator’
    to launch the setup and configure SQL Server service accounts appropriately with administrator permission during the installation.
    For more details about this error, please review the following similar thread.

  • Is there any command/query/etc, which would allow to understand what database objects (for example tables) are consuming memory and how much of it?

    TimesTen Release 11.2.1.9.6 (64 bit Linux/x86_64)
    Command> dssize;
    PERM_ALLOCATED_SIZE:      51200000
      PERM_IN_USE_SIZE: 45996153
    PERM_IN_USE_HIGH_WATER:   50033464
    TEMP_ALLOCATED_SIZE:      2457600
    TEMP_IN_USE_SIZE:         19680
    TEMP_IN_USE_HIGH_WATER:   26760
    Is there any command/query/etc, which would allow to understand what database objects (for example tables) are consuming memory and how much of it?
    tried to use ttsize function, but it gives some senseless results – for example, for the biggest table, tokens, it produces following output (that this table is 90GB in size – what physically cannot be true):
    Command> call ttsize('tokens',null,null);
    < 90885669274.0000 >
    1 row found.

    Are you able to use the command line version of ttSize instead? This splits out how much space is being used by indexes (in the Temp section of the TT memory segment), which I think is being combined into one, whole figure in the procedure version of ttSize you're using. For example:
    ttSize -tbl ia my_ttdb
    Rows = 4
    Total in-line row bytes = 17524
    Total = 17524
    Command> create index i1 on ia(a);
    ttSize -tbl ia my_ttdb;
    Rows = 4
    Total in-line row bytes = 17524
    Indexes:
    Range index JSPALMER.I1 adds 5618 bytes
      Total index bytes = 5618
    Total = 23142
    Command> call ttsize ('ia',,);
    < 23142.0000000000 >
    1 row found.
    In 11.2.2 we added the procedure ttComputeTabSizes which populates system tables with detailed table size data, and was designed to be an alternative to ttSize. Unfortunately it still doesn't calculate index usage though, and it isn't in 11.2.1.

  • Requirements for database design and installation

    Hi,
    As a database administrator, how to find out whether the database is design and installed properly?
    Can you please what would be the requirements to be considered towards the databse design for application developer ?
    thanks heaps !!!!

    Mohamed ELAzab wrote:
    regarding that the number of execution is the main thing that affects the performance i said that already above " the application executed it 30 000" but you didn't read my answer correctly. I did not respond to that "answer" of yours as it was not part of your posting that I responded too. In your response, which I quoted, talked about non-sharable SQL retrieving 20 rows and after 3 years it retrieving a million rows. This has no bearing on whether the SQL is sharable or not.
    I don't agree with you regarding that the design is not being done regarding considering the performance bottlenecks.So you decide on what the bottlenecks are up front, and then use these as database design considerations? I fail to see any logic or merit in such an approach.
    i want to let you know that we in the telecoms environment have many problems in our databases because the people who designed those applications didn't take performance in consideration.I understand too well - and it is not that they did not take performance into consideration when designing the database, it is because the design is just plain wrong from the start.
    You do not need to consider amount of memory available, number and speed of CPUs, bandwidth and speed of the I/O system, in order to design a database. These have no relevance at all during the design phase. Especially as the h/w that will run the design in production in a year's time can be drastically different from the h/w that will be used today.
    No, instead you use a proper and correct design methodology and data modeling approach. Why? Because such a design by its very nature will make optimal use of h/w resources and will provide data integrity, scalability and performance.
    Again i think design of the database application must take database performance bottlenecks in consideration like application which doesn't use bind variables if they took into consideration to avoid that it will help the DBA in the future but unfortunately most people doesn't do that. And as I said - using bind variables or not has absolutely nothing to do with the basic question asked in this thread: "+what are the requirements of database design+".
    How does using/not using bind variables influence the design of a table? Determine whether an entity is in 3NF? What the unique identidiers are for an entity? These are the design considerations for a database.. not bind variables.
    Yes, SQLs not using bind variables can cause performance problems. Not paying the electricity bill can cause a power outage for the database server. So what? These issues have no relevance to database design.

    ECCLOG1 data file has got 25GB initial size and growth was restricted to 10% (PROPOSED BY SAPInst)...
    i'm assuming this error was due to lack of growth space for ECCLOG1 datafile...am i right? if so how much should i allocate memory for this log ? or is there any workaround ?
    thanks in advance

    Kasu,
    If SQL is complaining that the log file is full then the phase of the install that creates the SQL data/log files has already occurred (happens early in the install) and the install is importing programs, config and data into the db.
    Look at the windows application event log for "Transaction log full" events to confirm.
    To continue, in SQL Query analyzer try:
    "Backup log [dbname] with truncate_only"
    This will remove only inactive parts of the log and is safe when you don't require point-in-time recovery (which you don't during an install).
    Then, go to the SQL Enterprise manager, choose the db in question and choose the shrink database function, choose to shrink only the transaction log file and the space made empty by the truncate will be removed from the file.
    Change the recovery mode in SQL Server to "simple" so that the log file does not grow for the remainder of the install.
    Make sure you change the recovery mode back to "full" after the install is complete.
    Your transaction log appears to have filled the disk partition you have assigned to it.
    25GB is huge for a transaction log and you would normally not see them grow this large if you are doing regular scheduled tlog backups (say every 30-60 minutes) because the log will truncate every time, but its not unusual to see one get big during an install, upgrade or when applying hotpacks.
