Resetting HierarchicalData AdvancedDataGrid dataProvider causes children to be invisible

I have an AdvancedDataGrid (ADG) setup as a child of a
ViewStack. The dataProvider is a HierarchicalData collection that
is set dynamically based on the report that the user selected from
a list.
The first time I setup the HierarchicalData, all of the data
is displayed correctly. However, when I reset the collection (when
the user selects the same report at a later time), although all of
the data is there, not all of it is displayed in the ADG. There is
a node that is able to be opened, and when I open it, I can verify
that the data is there. But, the data under that node is not
displayed.
Any thoughts on what is causing this, or what workarounds I
can put in place?

tion more then once??? maybe. I wouldnt be able to tell unless you posted your project and we can take a look at it.

I have a problem using AdvancedDataGrid :
I bind the ADG dataprovider to a XML in my model, like this :

When I start the application, the ADG displays poperly my model.
Then I programmaticaly add a node to myXML in my model, the ADG renders it and adds a row. So far so good.
Then when I scroll vertically in the ADG, some rows are added or removed, or the mouse highlighting jump to another line... Total mess.
I read that this may be because ADG recycle renderers and so we have to override the "set data" function in renderer. But here I don't use renderer but labelFunction.
And I don't have the problem when scrolling, until I change the dataprovider.
Do you have an idea ?

Complex VO as AdvancedDataGrid dataProvider

I would like to access fields in a complex VO from my AdvancedDataGrid.
By 'complex' I mean - that my AdvancedDataGrid dataProvider point to VO of type 'A' which containes (besides properties) VO of type 'B'.
I would like that part of my colums will point to B's fields (e.g.<mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn dataField="B.Myfield"/>
Is that possible?

It seems that ADOBE not found this issue to be urgent enough, thus not support it in standard manner

Draw a box with a stroke, then invert to a fill, causes resizing using the invisible stroke. Is there a way to fix and have the graphic resize using the fill size without redrawing the shape? Something like expand appearance?
I'm not looking for a workaround or to redraw the shape. This problem description was used to present the simplest explanation to recreate the problem.

I'm not sure I understand your question/problem, but if I make a box with an outside stroke and assign a stroke color, then... invert the stroke and fill, the stroke gets redrawn as a centered stroke --- it is no longer an outside stroke.
This seems to me to be incorrect behavior, but it's more likely I just don't understand *why* this happens.

DataGrid scroll positions resetting with dynamic dataprovider

Hi - I have a DataGrid that is backed by an ArrayCollection
that is fairly dynamic. Before doing my updates, i disable
autoupdating, and though my size is typically fixed at 100 items,
sometimes those items will be replaced. My problem is that a user
who has scrolled down the visible grid, will lose their scroll
position when i replace items. If i'm just doing updates on the
existing objects, it's fine, but the replace is causing the scrolls
(both horizontal and vertical) to reset. I've tried to isolate
where this is happening (whether set verticalScrollPosition or on
the bookmark) and i can't quite find it.
Anyone know how i can prevent this behavior? I've tried
capturing the scoll position before i begin my updates, and then
setting it back when finished, but it doesn't work.

Actually, I spoke too soon. I had a number of things I was
trying. And when i tried to clean up the other things that I
believed were extraneous (including an override of
makeColumnsAndRows), the vertical scroll resetting stopped working.
I've spent about 90 minutes trying to get back to where I was (wish
the builder was in IntelliJ!).
When it was working, I also tried to add horizontal scroll
capturing, and that didn't seem work either. I have 34 columns, the
first one is locked. When I captured my position, I saw it was 11.
Then i performed the update, and callLater my resetScroll position.
The first column i saw after the locked column is correct. However,
the scroll bar itself is fully left. On the next update I captured
a horizontal scroll of zero.

Strange behaviour with advancedDatagrid.dataprovider.showRoot = false

I encounter a minor problem while implementing this idea from
Sreenivas to get a summary row with "root" nodes in an
AdvancedDataGrid.

have a "tab character" before their name.

AdvancedDataGrid - create Array (cfquery) with children for hierarchical data set

I'm trying to create an AdvancedDataGrid with a hierarchical
data set as shown below. The problem that I am having is how to
call the data from a ColdFusion remote call and not an
ArrayCollection inside of the Flex app (as below). I'm guessing
that the problem is with the CFC that I've created which builds an
array with children. I assume that the structure of the children is
the issue. Any thoughts?

I had similar problems attempting to create an Array of
Arrays in a CFC, so I created two differents scripts - one in CF
and one in Flex - to build Hierarchical Data from a query result.
The script in CF builds an Hierarchical XML document which is then
easily accepted as HIerarchical Data in Flex. The script in Flex
loops over the query Object that is returned as an Array
Collection. It took me so long to create the XML script, and I now
regret it, since it is not easy to maintain and keep dynamic.
However, it only took me a short while to build this ActionScript
logic, which I quite like now (though it is not [
yet ] dynamic, and currently only handles two levels of
Hierarchy):

Help moving to Flex 3 using AdvancedDataGrid

I am just moving over to Flex 3 and want to use the
AdvancedDataGrid and I can't seem to get it to read the lastResult
of an HTTPService.
if I use dataProvider="{studXML.lastResult.student}" I get
stuff in the grid but it's not hierarchical (no folder opening to
see children nodes)
if I use dataProvider="{new
HierarchicalData(studXML.lastResult.student)}" I get no data in the
grid
I tried messing with the resultFormat of the HTTPService but
nothing seems to work (it seems it has to be e4x just to get some
data displayed)
Am I missing some new behavior with the AdvancedDataGrid?

You need to set the childrenField property of
HierarchicalData to point to curriculum (assuming classes are to be
displayed as children).
Because by default for XML, all the child nodes would get
treated as child nodes.

Using an hierarchical dataProvider for a TileList

Hey guys,
I am working on a Flex3 project and do have a viewStack holding two components: an AdvancedDataGrid and a TileList
Both of these are supposed to be based on the same dataprovider and due to the nature of the viewstack easily switchable.
The AdvancedDataGrid is already implemented and uses HierarchicalData as dataProvider (I only have two levels, where the second level is given by an attribute with the type ArrayCollection in the first level).
Now I have to tell my TileList somehow to transform this hierarchical data into plain data by simply flatting it (i.e. Level1, Level1.1, Level1.2, Level 1.3, ..., Level 2, Level 2.1, ...Level3 , ...).
I already thought about using an ICollectionView interface and to use some form of other adapter. But I could not really manage to get something working....so any hints/ideas?

Finally able to reset ipod, now I can't get it to work with itunes

I would appreciate any assistance, as I am growing very frustrated.
Friday night I was conducting a routine manual sync of my ipod. Everything was routine until I hit the disconnect button in itunes. My ipod disappeared from itunes device section, but "do not disconnect" stayed on the ipod's screen. I have had this problem before, and fixed it by resetting the ipod, so I tried that. The ipod would not reboot- I could hear noises as if the hard drive was spinning up, then the drive would stop. Then it would spin up again...etc. It did this over and over again, never even getting as far as the apple logo. I was able to put it into diagnostic mode but wasn't able to figure out anything helpful. Later that evening, I tried again to get the ipod to reset, and this time it got as far as the logo and stayed there.
I plugged the ipod into an outlet and let it charge overnight, and discovered that the next morning it had evidently reset to factory settings- all my content was gone, and the ipod asked me to select my language on startup, but it was again booting normally. However, when I hooked it back up to my computer via usb cable, I had problems again. Windows asked if I wanted to reformat the drive and I said no. Itunes refused to recognize that I had plugged the ipod in, even though windows clearly had and the ipod had the "do not disconnect" symbol up. I tried resetting the ipod and the computer. This time, itunes recognized that I had connected the ipod and asked if I wanted to reformat it. I said yes but itunes quickly froze and would not allow me to close it or end the process via task manager. I had to reboot to get itunes working again.
This is the situation I'm in now. Windows clearly recognizes the ipod- it shows as working in device manager and windows always asks if it should reformat when I plug it in (I tried saying yes once, but that didn't do anything). When I tried to select the ipod in windows explorer, explorer froze. When I open itunes after the ipod has been plugged in, or plug the ipod in while itunes is running, itunes refuses to recognize the ipod and freezes completely; task manager cannot end the process and the only way to restart itunes is by rebooting the computer. Trying to disconnect the ipod via windows' 'safely removal hardware' utility causes the utility to freeze and does not affect the ipod. The only way to get the ipod to stop displaying "do not disconnect" is to reset it, which again causes the ipod to (slowly) reboot and ask me to select a language.
I have tried reinstalling itunes. (It's 9.0.3 now.) I've tried switching usb cables. I've tried switching usb ports. I have tried to put the ipod in diagnostic mode, and I've tried putting it in disk mode- I'm not able to do either. I've been through all the relevant apple support pages I could find and I'm still unable to even diagnose exactly what the problem is, much less how to fix it. It seems more likely than not that the problem is the ipod itself rather than itunes, given my problems Friday night, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
The ipod is a 5g, 30gb, that I purchased new in December of 2006. I am running itunes 9.0.3 on windows vista home premium. Let me know if more details of my hardware/software are needed.

You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
So far I have tried the following to no avail:
Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
Reinstalled the latest itunes.
Reset the ipod.
Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one.

How to update one row in AdvancedDataGrid

My App have a AdvancedDataGrid and it has so much rows. Some
data rows for AdvancedDataGrid has changed and i don't want to
update all rows ... But i don't know how to update one row for my
AdvancedDataGrid

The message java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer is caused by network problem or even forced closure of IE browser.
This should not affect functionality and is harmless.
If the page process is too long, the user closed the browser or the user reloaded the page, this error could happen. Reloading a page or closing the browser is very common, and so we should not log this message.
BEA has a known issue CR219602 where we catch the SocketException and ignore the logging in the doEndTag() method.
If this error message is annonying please contact BEA Support to get a patch.
