Resetting the battery

I want to reset the PMU on my iBook (because I placed a new battery and no matter how long I leave it to charge, it is always orange) and I found this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431#faq5
My question is this. Isn't it dangerous to reconnect the AC power adapter and then put the battery back in the computer?

No. It's perfectly safe to do it that way.
As a matter of fact, you can use the iBook without the battery in place (although I don't recommend it).

  • Am I able to reset the battery of an iPod Touch 5G myself?

Am I able to reset the battery of an iPod Touch 5G myself? Because my battery is doing strange. When I put it in a computer it says 'charging off'. When I put it in a charger it is normally charging but when I take it out, it says 20% battery life remaining. I put it in the charger the whole night but I don't know what's wrong. But after it says 20% it turns off (of course) but when I turn it on, the battery is 100%! I didn't even put it in a charger! And then the same story begins. over and over.

Hey Ron61, Don't know about resetting the battery, but you can do a reset of the iPod. Start with a soft reset. Press and hold the power and home buttons together, until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds+/-) then release both buttons. If no joy, then go into Settings>General>Reset then tap Reset All Settings. If that does my work try allowing your iPod to drain down until it turns off, then charge at least 4 hours. Also try a different cable, the lighting cables have a history of failing / shorting out. And inspect your charging port on the iPod for foreign debris or damage. If still not joy, make a full set of backups of everything on this iPod to your computer then try to Restore for Backup or last resort Restore to New. If none of the above work, contact your Apple store or Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated for possible hardware issue. Bring you cable alone also. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Will resetting the MBP also reset the battery cycle count?

    Hi All,
I recently purchased a used MBPR (Late 2012) model.
When checking the battery cycle count, I noticed that it says 2.
I am not sure if the original user ever reset the computer, since I noticed he left couple personal files on the computer when it arrived.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if resetting the Macbook Pro to factory setting well also reset the battery cycle count.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you reset the MacBook to factory settings, battery cycle count stays as it was before. Note that you have the same battery, so the only way to reset the battery cycle count is to install another battery

  • How to reset the battery

My battery wont charge, and the Icon is not the usual its a solid battery with a plug. What can I do?

Find out why it won't charge. There's a fault with the phone, or the cable, or the charger. Try a different cable, try a different charger or USB port, check the phone's dock connector for debris or damage. Reset the phone.
Not all at once - change one thing at a time so you eventually know what the problem was.

It sounds like you are doing this because the remaining charge time on your battery is going up and down.  This is actually very normal.  The remaining time is only an estimate based on how you are using your machine at any given time.  If you're just browsing web pages, it may say 4 hours... but if you launch a processor intensive game, it may immediately jump down to 2.5  hours.  After stopping the game, it may jump back up to 3.5 hours.  It's like a car uses gas, the heavier you push it, the more "fuel" it uses.
To get a more accurate number, you should view the battery by percentage instead of time.  It will show you the actual percentage (it should not go up and down).

  • Is there a way to reset the battery to make it last longer without getting a new battery?

I have an ipod touch 4th generation 8GB and the battery was ruined by accidentaly overcharging it a few times. I was wondering if there was a way to fix the battery so it returns to the charge it is supposed to hold. I currently have without getting a new battery, or replacing it. Please respond.

Don't know of any way to "restore" a lithium ion battery like you could do when rejuvinating a nicad type battery.  If the lithium ion battery has reached a stage where it will not service the needs of your device, you need to replace it.
Usually the lithium ion batteries don't suffer much from overcharging because the proper charger will limit the charging current to a trickle.  Lithium ion batteries are more apt to suffer by letting it discharge to an almost zero state, and letting it stay that way for a period of time.

  • My iPhone 4S has been prematurely shutting down (shutting down at 30% battery) how do I fix this problem and reset the battery?

It has also gotten rid of the "personal hotspot" option. How do I get that back?

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Backing up, Updating and Restoring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • How I reset my Battery Statistics without ROOTING the phone.

    All,
You might try this to reset your Battery Usage calculation statistics.  It worked for me and it does NOT ROOT you phone.
To save time do this before you go to bed.
Turn your phone off by holding the on/off button until the phone turns completely off
Remove the battery, the SD card, and the SIM card.
Wait a couple of minutes and reinstall the SiM card, SD card and the battery BUT DO NOT turn the phone back on...Do NOT.
Before you go to bed keep the phone turned off and plug it into the small 110 volt 1 Amp charger that came with the phone and let it charge overnight.
The next morning  DO NOT turn the phone on just unplug the charger and immediately re-plug it back in to further charge the battery.  Every time it says 100% unplug and replug it in.  Do this 3 or 4 or more times.  If you walked away and missed the 100% just unplug it and do it again.
NOTE:  Because the phone is OFF when you plug it in you will first see a gray battery for a few seconds and then a green battery for a minute or two on the display before the screen goes blank (black)..  The battery looks like a standard flashlight battery.  The green battery will say 100% if it is fully charged.  When you see 100% unplug the charger and re plug it in.  The battery charges a little more each time and usually in 3-8 minutes it again says 100%.  Doing this tops off the battery a little bit more each time.  Remember do it 3 or 4 times.
Finally, turn ON your phone and go to Settings>About phone> Battery Use and look at your phones Battery Usage Calculations. They should be reset.  At the top of this screen the amount of time "on the battery" should be a matter of minutes because you just reset the statistics.
The attached screen shot shows my battery usage statistics AFTER I reset them.  If you want to see my battery usage BEFORE I reset them go to this URL and read my original post in that thread.  It showsa screen shot of my battery usage.

PS, You might take a screen shot of you current Battery Statistics before you do this for comparison.

I found an easier and much quicker way to reset the Battery Use than the method that I described here so please go to the following thread to see how.

  • New s/w update drains the battery

Hi! I just want find out from other blackberry 10 users, if they experienced the fast drainage of the battery since the upgrade? Well my phone won't use the camera flash @ 30% and when it gets to 28% it switches off, it doesn't get to 20% and warn me about battery low, please fix that error on the update... I'm really not enjoying my phone lately
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Remove the battery for 90 minutes and reinsert. This will reset the battery meter. If it still has the same issue do it one more time. If the issue persists after that then replace the battery.

  • Whenever my Mac book dies it doesnt charge again. Is it the battery?

I have gotten it to charge before but now it wont. The charger light turns green but it won't turn orange. It only happens when the laptop dies on its own.

Take out the power cable, and let the battery fall to 0% - the machine naturally sleeps. Some experts suggest letting your MBP rest for a few hours, but for the present purposes, of resetting the battery numbers, simply charge via the cable fully. When you're done charging, you should now be at around 100%.
It's possible, in some cases, that the total will be a few percentage points off. Not to worry.

  • Updated to 4.4 and now my Bluetooth 'studders' when listening to music and a phone call. Yes I have reset the phone and removed the battery.

I just updated my Note 3 to 4.4.2. Since then when I listen to music or make a call on my Bluetooth my music and calls 'studders' and has some type of 'drop-outs' during the music and calls. This was not the case prior to the update.
Yes, I have power down the phone. Yes, I have removed the battery and restarted the phone. My Bluetooth headset is an LG 730. I tried listening to music on my other Bluetooth devices and they also 'studders' and has drop-outs during calls and music. I connected with a wired headset and the 'studdering' disappeared.
Is there a way to revert back to the previous 4.3 version of Android. I use my phone extensively for business and drive with it. The law for my state requires 'hands free' usage of my phone.

Unfortunately, I was forced to do a factory Reset. This wiped the device to a new state.
Afterwards all Blue-tooth, wi-fi and calls operated fine.
I would advise that you notify your customers that they would most likely have to do a Factory Reset once they update their device.
All contacts, pictures, data and applications were either lost or had to be reinstalled.

  • My iPhone 4S is hanging always after I charged it. (I normally drain the battery before I re-charged it.) Done turning off/on, resetting and all.

I have been using my iPhone 4S for 4 months already. At first it was working perfectly fine (though I have some complaints with the battery that drains so fast) until the phone is hanging up now. I noticed that after I fully charged the phone it hangs up. It's really acting so badly. When I make a call the other party is able to hear the ring from their end, while I can't even confirm that the call went thru. When you place the phone to your ear the phone goes black and when you bring it out you would be able to see the screen but now it's not doing like that anymore. If I end the call it doesn't say 'call ended' it will always appear as 'call ending' and I can't clear the screen I still need to turn it off then on for me to be able to clear the screen. I can't confirm if my sms was sent successfully because it would appear as if sending the message is still in process, but the recipient is able to receive it already then again I would need to turn off/on and I'll get an error: message sending failure. I don't have music or videos on the phone,  it's just plainly simple, though I have a very few free apps that I seldom use. I seldom use the phone as well for browsing. When you call my mobile, callers are able to hear that it's ringing but there's nothing displayed on my screen. I don't think that is a carrier issue, because other subscribers doesn't have any complaint with the network. Sometimes for me to be able to use my phone again, I would ask somebody to call my number many times until the incoming call would register on the phone. Right now it's not doing that way anymore. I have done, resetting, restoring, turning off/on but to no avail. Please help.

Being impatient and SCREAMING at fellow users because no one has responded in 20 minutes is not only a bad way to get help, it is just plain dumb.
Do yourself a favor.. the next time you think about typing in all CAPS, slap yourself.
Then learn to use search, there are hundreds if not thousands of posts on battery issues.
If those do not help, take the device to Apple for evaluation, no product or company is perfect, it may simply be that your battery is defective.

so i went yesterday to the apple store and they told me my battery was dying because i had apps crashing so i had to reset the phone. how do i do this?

Your post doesn't really make sense, because if all you had to do was reset the iPhone, they would have helped you do that at the Apple Store.
Are you sure "reset" is the correct verb - that "reset" is exactly what they told you to do?
Anyway, you reset the iPhone by holding the home and on/off buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
