Resizing GIF files

Hello,
I am programming a batch application, that resize images, e.g. jpg, png and gif format.
On internet there are bunch of "working" examples for jpg and png.
I have modified them so I can use it for my intention.
Unfortunately I could not find any java snippet for resizing GIF files.
Can somebody give me a hint, code snippet, link, ...
(I would like to store the resized file, i.e. not for viewing.)
Thank you in advanced,
Aykut

Hi Navy_Coder,
I mean with resizing :
for example the original file has the properties width = 1200, height = 800
the application get the parameter target_width = 600
it will calculate automatically the height, so target_height = 400
that means the application creates a new file with the size 600x400
I mean with batch :
The application gets a source directory and target directory as parameters.
That means: read all gif files from "source directory" [resize them] + [ *write all* ] in "target directory".
thanks

  • Multiple Upload Image Problem - Resize GIF files

The Multiple Image Upload script seems to handle .jpg images without problems.
However, .gif files return the error:
"Error converting image (image resize). Image processing library not available or does not support operation. (imagemagick library is not working or not found)."
The problem is caused by the fact that script that I'm using tries to pass a parameter that is not valid for gif processing:
    myimage.gif' '-quality' '80'
The "quality" parameter works only for jpeg and .png files as described here:
    http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-options.php#quality
Please ensure that the script makes difference between .gif and .jpeg files and use the correct parameters so we can resize the images properly.
    Thanks in advance,

yeah, it seems that this is a small bug in ADDT´s "includes/common/lib/image/KT_Image.class.php" file. Was just checking the code in there, and indeed it adds this extra parameter regardless the image type -- but I do have an idea how this file can be modified to not use this parameter if the file in question has the suffix ".gif".
If you feel a little adventurous, I´ll happily invite you to modify some code in this file -- please let me know if you´re ready for some instructions. However, if so, please make a backup of this file first...

  • GIF Files Won't Resize

I have a few gif files that I inherited that were very poor quality.  I've spent a lot of time cleaning them up.  I need to resize them to about half their current size without resampling because I need to retain the quality.  I go to Image > Resize > Image Size and enter the correct size.  I then save the file, but when I reopen the file, it reverts back to the original size.  I need to resize them before I can complete the project and turn it over.
I've also tried saving them as jpg and resizing, and that works.  BUT when I further convert them back to a gif I'm back to the same problem.  Does anyone have idea of what I could try next or what the problem is?
    Thanks...

Thanks you so much for your response.  I did go into RGB, and it didn't
make any difference.  These files are not for the web.  They will be used
inside a program currently under development.  Depending on selection
criteria, a graphic may be selected and inserted into a template to be
printed along with other nongraphical elements.  Since they will be
printed, the quality is important.  In addition to the requirement that
they be in gif format, they must be the exact size.  I was instructed
    scalable files are not acceptable.
Any additional thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Try going to Image>Mode>RGB first. However, you do realize that if you
want gifs for web use, you MUST resample to resize them? (I'd use save for
web for this, myself, rather than the PSE image size dialog.). If these
aren't for the web, are you sure you need to keep them as gif files rather
    than another format?

  • Resize gif-image from file

How to make the following: open the GIF-file, reduce a gif-image, write a gif-image back in the GIF-file? It is necessary to use only Java2D.
    Thanks.

    You could use the JAI.
Any way you do it you're going to have to do an Affine Transform. You can do it in just the JDK or use JAI.

  • How to edit existing gif file using photoshop (CS2)

    Hello Forum,
I have some gif images that I have used for creating tabs on a
web page. I downloaded these images from somewhere, and did not create them
myself. I would like to change the color of these gif files.
They are a nice image, with a gradient applied at the top, and I have a left side gif for the tab as well as an "over" image set for the tab(s) as well.
I use the images in a css file to display the tabs on a web page.
The gradient is across the top of the tab, which is a lighter color, almost going to white, and the rest of the tab is a light blue, with left and right top a slight rounded corner. I would like to preserve the gradient appearance, but change the light blue theme to an almost black (#333333) color.
How can I do this in photoshop?
    Thanks,

    Hi All
I would like to create an action in CS2 to resize an image to e.g 600 x ? pixels and then save for web at max 149kb .
Any clues? I've tried a few different files of different file sizes?(possible cause here) and always end up with different results when using my actions or the image processor.
Is this at all possibleto accomplish in a single step?
Let me elaborate more. On a particular forum where post we are limited to 600 x? pixels and file size no greater than 150 kb. When creating this action in CS2 with different file sizes one lands up with files ranging from 70kb (not as good for viewing) to 149kb(perfect size)or 357kb?(way too big). I'd like to have as close to <150kb for ALL files in the "action"
Is this possible without getting into scripting?
    Thanks

  • How can I reduce the size of a gif file?

Hello, I'm trying to save a 88 layer image as .gif file. there are two questions I have:
    1. I'm trying to resize the image but when I try to save it as .gif the colors are just messed up and greyish. how can I resize it without messing up the pixel colors?
    2. What's the best way to reduce the file size? Is it the dimension of the image? is it the number of colors used in it? or there is another options that i need to manipulate to get a better result?
    thanks in advance.

The thing is, my friend is using imageready and he says his files have about 150 layers but only 2-3MB
You need to understand how GIF compression works. It doesn't matter whether you have 1 or 500 layers, 20 or 500 frames of animation. Hell, even the image dimensions do not necessarily matter. The only determining factor for file size is how many colors are spread across the size of the image or the frames, respectively, and those, as the others said can never be more than 256. after that, it is down to how many contiguous areas there are in the image and how large they are - large solid areas are better to compress than many small areas as the overhead increases. I suggest you give these things some consideration first before blindly pushing buttons, which - no offense - is what you seem to be doing right now. You are guessing what might look good, but don't understand how to control it to make it better.

  • Outlook 2010 Signature: Resizes GIF-pictures when you do not have 100% dpi set on display settings

Our automatic signature tool creates signatures for all our employees. The signature works fine until people with non-100% dpi setting on display (e.g. medium 125% or Larger 150% in Control Panel > Display) try to edit their generated
signature and saves. Suddenly the images get resized and blurry, even if it is not displayed as resized when save the updated signature.
It works fine to edit and save if you have display DPI set to 100%.
The company logo is 127x38 pixels, 2,15KB GIF file.
Is this a known bug or something else? I'm not sure its fair to blame the signature-tool as it works okay before the editor has been doing its stuff.
Another strange thing. If I have edited a signature in 125% and saves it. I send an email and the signature logo is blurry.  But if I change display DPI to 100% and send another email (logoff and logon first to change dpi) then the logo is fine again.
Seems like the logo is bound to text size

Our company is having this exact same problem.  We have Outlook 2010 SP2 and Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise.  As the OP we have a signature creation tool that helps us create these HTML signatures dynamically.  OP did you ever resolve this issue?
However, in our situation our logo gif image is already 96 DPI.  Our HTML signatures work perfectly fine when Windows DPI is set to 100%.  But, as soon as you go to 125% or 150% we have problems when saving email drafts and sending emails where the
    logo increases in size.
Here is an example of the HTML code for my current signature.  Any help on this issue would be appreciated.  Is there a way to prevent Outlook from doing this when DPI is increase from default.  We have a lot of users that need to increase
the DPI to see their PC better.

  • Gif File from Quicktime question

I have a quicktime Movie and I want to turn a couple frames into a GIF. How do I do this?????

    http://www.stone.com/GIFfun/GIFfunby_StoneDesign.html
Price is right and it works.
Getting the still images from the .mov file will require the Pro upgrade of QuickTime.
Use the arrow keys to select the frames you want to use and Export to Picture.
Choose Photo-JPEG and save the "frames" as individual files.
You'll also need software to change the image format because .gif only uses 256 colors.
Graphic Converter ($35) can help you resize the files and convert them from .jpg to .gif format.

  • Viewing Animated GIF files in Preview

    Hello...
I'm trying to figure out why I cannot view animated GIF files within Preview. When I search within Preview's help I get this...
*1. Open the animated GIF file in Preview.*
*2. If the window's drawer isn't already visible, choose View > Drawer.*
*The drawer contains a thumbnail image for the animated GIF. The number of frames in the animation appears in the lower-right corner.*
*3. Click the triangle beside the thumbnail image.*
*Preview shows all the frames in the animated GIF. When you click a frame, the animation stops and Preview displays that frame.*
Now at the end of number 3 it states that "the animation stops", so according to that statment Preview should be "playing" the animation until I click a certain frame to stop it. Well mine doesn't do this, SO what's going on?
Oh, my OS is v10.4.10 and Preview is v3.0.9(409).
    Thanks!

Preview in Panther did play animated gifs, although it was a bit clunky at it. Evidently they intended to fix this in Tiger, but instead they ended up breaking it completely. To play an animated gif you now need to do so in a browser, such as Safari. Preview no longer plays them at all.

  • How to edit a Animated Gif file and convert to SWF

I am using the creative cloud with fireworks. I chose the free trial with buying in mind if I saw it work properly. I simply want to upload an animated GIF file and then download it as a SWF file. I saw someone on youtube do this and it's not that if I get on the correct page I would not know how to do that but I just cannot find how to get the GIF into the software to edit. It has just simply put them in the creative cloud folder which can open them on IE> How do i make it available to edit and convert to SWF please? Thanks in advance.

  • Animated .gif files

I have been using an older version of Photoshop Elements for a long time but just got a new MacPro and decided it's time to upgrade my PSE.  But maybe not....I downloaded the Photoshop Elements Trial version to check out if it's really worth upgrading or not and I think I'm in trouble. I have a ton of animated .gif files and they do not appear to open in the familiar "layers".  i read through some of these discussion threads and I think you're saying that if I use the current version of Photoshop Elements I will not be able to edit my old .gif files.  I did try making new layered files and save them for the web with animation and that seemed to work.  But if I'm going to lose the ability to edit my old .gif files I'm not sure I want to upgrade.
Can someone clarify this for me please.  Maybe it's just a matter of switching from Elements to CS4, but I thought from the descriptions of the programs as provided in the Products section that I fit more with the Elements program.....maybe not????
And this does not even consider that I haven't tried to load my older version on the new intel machine yet, it may not even run if I try that.
I do, for about 20% of my computing time use "that other" platform, but I don't like it, I much prefer my wonderful Mac machines.
    thanks for your help
    Leigh

Thank you for your offer, I do appreciae it.  But I think the better question to ask at this point is :  What is the last version of Photoshop Elements that supports editing animated gif files.  This is too important to me to lose this ability and after checking further I see CS4 is out of my price and needed features range. I would rather hang on to my old laptop to manipulate photos than lose the ability to edit my .gif files.
Can anybody help with this question?

  • Unable to access gif files from the server

    hi all,
i have successfully signed an applet and it is loading in the client system also. in that applet, i instantiated a jbutton as given below:
    JButton jb = new JButton(new ImageIcon("http://192.168.91.154:8080/success/set.gif"));
but the icon din appear and a blank button appears, even when accessed from the server system.
if i give the exact path like c:/blazix/webfiles/success/ set.gif, the icon is coming in the server system but not in other systems. i tried without port no also but in vain. pl solve my problem. what i need is how to
specify the path of the file[any file] which is present in server.
or if i put all the gif files in the jar file, can i access the gif files present in the jar file [set for archive] ? if i can, give me the soln for accessing the gif file present in the jar file, so that i need not access the server to get the gif files.(i.e) how to specify the path of the gif files present in the jar file?
i ve one more doubt. the jni library file shld be in the server, and the client has to access the library in the server. i think the applet loaded in the client ll search for the library in the local m/c only . how to make the applet to search for library in the server??
i feel only by using rmi we can solve this problem. am i correct? if so i feel that an appln or applet running in the server shld access the jni library, and the applet in the client side should communicate with this server appln using rmi to get the data.is it correct? is there
    anyother way?
i appreciate your help in this regard. thanks in advance. bye, padmanbhan.

Better information on what you are doing with JNI might help you get an answer.
If you have some server process that needs to use JNI, then I would code a servlet to call, instead of using RMI to ge there.
Depending on your environment, and the target audiences environment, RMI may just cause you a lot of grief. Firewalls etc, get in the way of RMI connections and force security holes to be opened in order to work.
If you use a servlet, then traffic to your server process is done via standard http calls, which will already be enabled, because your app runs in a browser.
If ther data requirements are heavy duty, your server could always send an XML stream to the client, which would allow you to describe complex data to the client.
Running JNI stuff from the client directly means a lot of local infrastructure to run your app. The code you want to run, the JNI library ....
If what you have is really an application, but want the convenience of starting it from a browser, look at Java WebStart. Then you can distribute an application via the browser, and WebStart will worry about the deployment issues for you.
    In Summary:
Stay away from RMI from applets if you can help it.
If you really have an App, then try WebStart to manage the distribution issues for you.

  • Animated Gif files in Captivate

I have created an animated GIF file in Photoshop that i want to use in my captivate file.
The file wont preview in any of the preview modes other than the HTML5 output preview. All other previews just show the first frame of the GIF file.
If i chose to SWAP the animation with another GIF from the library the preview shows the animation playing.. see attached
Is there something im doing wrong here.
I guess i could upload my final file to the LMS with HTML5 output as this preview shows the animation but i also read there are limitations with this output as some transitions / effects dont work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
Yes, you can verify whether your GIF would fucntion correctly on HTML5 platform by Window--HTML5 Tracker Pod.
I am not an expert on Photoshop, but still would like to make a recommendation.
Set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to preview this time.
    Thanks,
