Resizing Images with Photoshop programatically (SDK) ?

Hello,
We have more 100,000+ master images that must be resized down programatically (over a nightly batch job).  We are losing photoquality when resizing these images (JPEGs).  However, when I resize these images in Photoshop, it produces very high quality images.
This needs to be done programatically, is there an option to buy an SDK from Adobe where we can programatically resize these images on the fly?
Basically, we need to use the same mechanism that photoshop uses to resize images, because it does a wonderful job of preserving the image quality, but we need programatic  access to it.
Thanks,
Raman

The SDK is free, and downloadable by anyone.
But it sounds like all you need is an action and the batch command, or a javascript -- which don't require the SDK.
But these are not libraries - they use the Photoshop application.
There are no libraries to do what Photoshop does.

    You may be able to drag and drop the icons from one toolbar onto another, you can then hide the toolbar that you no longer need. For details on how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar

  • Can't open CS2 image with photoshop

    I had this camera, Canon 50d, for little more than two years.
    Now it is time to start working with Raw image and can't open the image with Photoshop.
    But I could open with EOS utility but want to work with Photoshop.
    thanks for reading and advice pleae

    Photoshop CS2 will never directly open a Canon EOS-50D raw file.  The raw files from every camera are different and your camera was designed after the Photoshop CS2 Camera Raw application stopped receiving updates.
    This list is pertinent:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    That said, there is a free solution that will allow you to open your images indirectly.
    Download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5388 (Mac)
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5389 (PC)
    Whenever you have a folder full of raw 50D images run the DNG Converter on the folder to convert all the files to DNG format.  You will have to select the proper compatibility setting.
    You can now open the DNG files with Photoshop CS2's Camera Raw converter.
    Just as an aside, the Camera Raw converter from the latest version of Photoshop delivers images of higher quality, so you may want to consider moving up to Photoshop CS6.  Unfortunately you will have to pay full price; there's no Photoshop CS2 -> CS6 upgrade discount.

    There will be a set of Landscapes that that have a narrower aspect ratio the 1960:1103 that would also need the top and bottom cropped like all Portraits would could be.  You need to realize that center cropping Landscape image that have aspect ratios near 1960:1103 will usually produce acceptable compositions.  However Cropping wide panoramas and portraits will only produce acceptable landscape  1960:1103 composition occasionally.
    Here you will see what happens when image have aspect ratio the do not fit the desired aspect ratio.  Where Landscape  are forced to portrait and portrait forced to Landscape.  Here are two Collage I populated with a mixture of image  with different  aspect ratios.   One collage has all 3:2 Landscape places and the other 2:3 Portrait places.
    I create a 1 image 1960x1103 collage 72dpi and create those too. Note the landscape boy foot is cropped off 3:2 is narrow compared to 1960:1103

  • In Safari How to open an Image with PhotoShop

    Hi everyone.
    I need your help, advise...
    I have a html page with this tag:
    Image
    CFD is a Share
    If I use Explorer when I click the link (using the File Helpers) the image is open with PhotoShop. I need the same functionality in Safari, is there a way to do that...?
    Or how can I accomplish this task?
    Thank you for your help.
    jhpe.

    Thanks for your response. I've just started with Javascript scripting in Photoshop so I'm still just a bit confused though .
    The code you've provided will return the location on my computer of where the script resides, am I right? And since the script and the images are in the same folder, this should mean a relative address is obtainable?
    How could I use this in connection with:
    var fileRef = new File("image01.jpg");
    var docRef = app.open(fileRef);
    where image01,jpg is the image I'd like to open in the same folder as the script?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Open an image with photoshop...I can't create another layer

    hi,
    So, just got aperture and am trying to figure it out.
    I have managed to open an image with an external editor...in my case, photoshop elements 4...now, I would like to edit this image further.
    Problem is that photoshop tells me that my image is 16 bit... and so I can't even create a new layer.
    How do I fix this? Is this an export setting from aperture?

  • Can't save image with Photoshop.

    We do often have a issue where we can not save the open image in Photoshop CS 6. To this day the problem appears when the image contains Adjustments Layers with Layer Masks.
    It does not matter if we try to save the image locally or on a network volume, we do only get a prompt telling us there is a Program Error. Trying to save as TIFF with layers instead of the preferred PSD format
    does not make any difference also.
    If we create a new image and copy all layers with masks and all the photoshop paths, this image can be saved and the original image can also be saved if we do a flattening prior to saving.
    I do believe this is a bug in photoshop and has nothing to do with corrupted images or other computer related issues. We are working with Macintosh and experience this problem in both Mac OS 10.8.5 and 10.9.3

    JPG compression does not support transparency, I think you
    have to convert it to png of gif first.

    A process can be automated in Photoshop in different ways using one of Photoshop batching feature ther are more then one and it  can be done by other image processing programs. However in all cases  your image files will need to to opened decoded into an image processed to produce the images files you want and output files saved.
    It not possible to give you a step by step for you left out much needed infomation. Like will all files being process have the same aspect ratio and if its the same aspect ratio as your desired passport images. Passport images should not be distorted. If Aspect ratios differ will a centered crop be OK. etc

  • Grab image from photoshop using sdk

    the following sampe in the sdk shows how the client requests
    a thumbnail from photoshop.
    var idNS = stringIDToTypeID("sendDocumentThumbnailToNetworkClient")
    var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
    desc1.putInteger( stringIDToTypeID("width"  ), 640;
    desc1.putInteger( stringIDToTypeID("height" ), 400);
    desc1.putInteger( stringIDToTypeID("format" ), 1);
    executeAction( idNS, desc1, DialogModes.NO );
    The command above sends an image to the client, which has no metadata like exif.
    BUT how can the client request a full  IMAGE (Picture with metadata and not downsized) not a thumbnail from photoshop
    sending it to the client ??? Is there any message like above ?
    where are the messages listed like "sendDocumentThumbnailToNetworkClient"
    and other, I can't find them anywhere ??
    best regards
    Chris

    Ask Photoshop what the size of the image is and request it in the width and height.
    Make a second request for the xmp data via JavaScript. activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData
    The list of commands can be found on this page documentation/pages/index.html
    Consult the JavaScript documentation for all the things you can do with that API. The documents are part of you Photoshop install in the Scripting folder.

  • Bridge CS6 can't open image with Photoshop CS6

    I installed Bridge CS6 and Photoshop CS6 with my Mac Pro with drive 1, which was cloned with drive 2 as a backup.
    Now every time I try to open my RAW file in Bridge, it opens the file with the Photoshop with drive 2 instead of 1.
    I have tried to eject the drive 2, but Bridge (with drive 1) fails to find the Photoshop in drive 1.
    I have to force to open the Photoshop CS6 before Bridge in order to open the image, is there a way to sovle this problem?

    This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

  • How to resize images in Photoshop Elements so that they cover the screen on a widescreen tv?

    I'm having difficulty resizing my photos in landscape
    view so that they cover the entire screen on our
    widescreen tv.  Also, how to do them as batch
    files.  I have Photoshop Elements 9.0.
    Thank you.

    The picture has to be the right pixel size.  If your camera can't take a wide screen picture then you have to crop each picture to the proper pixel size.  What I do is crop with no restrictions.  Make the width 8.348 inches and the height 4.696 inches and resolution 300.  After croping your picture will be 1920 x 1080 pixels.  You can now adjust to whatever size picture you want.  If you do some investigating on the internet you can probably find various sites that tell you what pixel dimensions for any size picture.  And also for inch dimensions.    I hope this helps.

  • Can't resize images in Photoshop CS5

    I was working in Photoshop CS5 creating a flyer when suddenly I wasn't able to resize any images.  I was adding images into the flyer fine for a while, but then when I clicked on an image to resize it there were no handles and I couldn't resize.  I've closed the program & restarted, closed the file & re-opened but nothing helps.  HELP.

    Maybe you accidentally disabled Show Transform Controls in Move Tool options.

  • Resizing image in photoshop

    Hello,
    I'm new to photoshop and trying to resize an image  to become 1080 x 1020 at 72 lpi. Original size is 2173 x 1634 at 300. (Asset is for viewing only)
    First, I went into "Image Size" dialog box, checked "Resample Image" and unchecked "Constrain Proportions". By doing so, I was able to changed the pixel dimensions to 1080 x 1020 but distorted the image and when I changed the lpi to 72, the pixel reduced further down.
    How do I go about resizing an image without distorting image and retain the desired specs: 1080 x 1020 at 72 lpi.
    Thanks,
    Suta

    With the image open in Photoshop, it's dpi would affect:
    1) Text size if you have Type set at Pixels or Points in preferences, (which is why it is not a bad idea to set it to Pixels so you'll have some idea of how big text will apear in your images).
    2) Grid density (Ctrl/Command ').   When I want to change the grid density, I generally open the Image size dialogue box; turn of resample, and change the DPI.  But I find I don't need to do that so often since setting both Print and Screen dpi to 300dpi in the New Document preferences.
    3) How big it will print.  I once took in three full res images to be be made into canvas prints and gave the sho a size.   When I collected them only one was at the size I'd asked for, and the other two were much smaller because he'd gone by the DPI and print size.  I was not happy!
    Other than the above three things, (and any other that I can't think of)  pixels are pixels and dpi only affects how thickly or thinly they are spread throughout your image.
