Resource Manager question

Hi,
In 10g , Automatically Assigning Resource Consumer Groups to Sessions done by using the following package:
DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.set_consumer_group_mapping (
attribute IN VARCHAR2,
value IN VARCHAR2,
consumer_group IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL)
For example:
DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.set_consumer_group_mapping (
attribute => DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.module_name,
value => 'TOAD',
consumer_group => 'TOOLS_GROUP');
In case that i have few version of the same tool such as: TOAD 9.5.0.31 , TOAD 8.1 and so on (found under module_name column in v$session)
than i have to attache each UNIQUE module to the procedure :DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.set_consumer_group_mapping
Is there an option to pass entry like %TOAD% ?
Thanks

Is there an option to pass entry like %TOAD% ?
Nope, I don't think so, couldn't find anything like that in the docs.

  • Soalris 10 Resource Management question

    Hi,
Looking at the outoput of rcapstat, how much memory allocated would be suitable for avoiding paging. I guess you could set the cap at a large value, monitor then reduce the cap but I would like a calculated/derived approach. The server has enough physical memory, I belive the capping values need to be adjusted. Thanks.
    xxxx # rcapstat -z
id zone nproc vm rss cap at avgat pg avgpg
    1 yyyy 65 2231M 5382M 8192M 8537M 0K 1854M 0K

    Hi,
My interprestation of rcapstat was incorrect. I should have read the man page correctly, which says
The paging statistics in the first report issued show the
activity since the daemon was started. Subsequent reports
reflect the activity since the last report was issued.
subsequent reports did show 0K. So I've incorrectly interpreted the output.

  • File Server Resource Manager will not load WMI Objects on Windows 8.0/8.1 Preview with Hyper-V and Server Tools Loaded

    Hi Folks,
I have a problem getting "File Server Resource Manager" to start properly because WMI objects are not loading??? I don't understand this at all because I am able to access them with other Apps, etc. I have been over my Services list as well but
have not yet discovered which Service turns on/off "File Server Resource Manager". I have looked in Windows\System32\ and I can not find SrmSvc. I found other Srm's there though. I also found the FSRM Snapin which generates the Figure below but I
can not find it in the WMI Browser. I believe the Firewall is OKAY since I have been over that thoroughly. I do have the Server Tools Installed for Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1 Clients as well as the Windows Updates applied, which is where I got "File Server
Resource Manager" in the first place. I have had WMI and Powershell 3.0 Package, installed since Windows 7 but I run a repair on them anyway.
I have read through "File Server Resource Manager could not load WMI objects on Windows Server 2012
Article ID: 2831687" but since I don't seem to have SrmSvc the solution doesn't help me. I haven't been able to find a similar one for the Windows Client.
If there is anything you could share on this problem I would be much obliged.
    Thanks again,

  • Oracle Resource Manager function with SAP BI7

    Hi,
Have anyone considered or using Oracle Database Resource Manager (Oracle 10.2) feature for SAP BI application in your site? I dont see a single OSS hit on this feature.
We have a SAP BI system that has few power users (who can run large STAR_TRANSFORMATION queries that analyzes large volume of data) and the main user community (our sales force > 3000+ users) who can run smaller queries of such nature or queries of different types.
We want to see if there is any way we can control the resource utilization on the database server.
    Thanks in advance,
    Raj

    > Of course, this would require an additional specifications such as SERVICE in the TNS and Listener files.
Yes - but I'm not sure if that would give the necessary effect. Once the statement reaches the database kernel engine, it gets processed, no matter if you limit the TNS/listener usage because TNS is no more involved when the statement reaches the OLAP engine.
    > In the BI environment, I'm thinking you need this db feature to control database resources when loads and reports overlaps or even several small and large queries run concurrently despite however many app server a system has, all these come to the database.
I think SAPs answer is: Buy a bigger box (or use RAC to distribute the load)
    > The big question is whether SAP would support such a setup.
The feature is not listed explicitly in note 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment. I'd make a call at BC-DB-ORA and ask what they think about that.
I understand your problem very well but I doubt, that there's an easy way of accomplishing this with standard tools.

  • NI VXI Resource Manager keeps on saying locked up

Whenever I run resource manager, it keeps saying it locks up last time when it was running although it was not really locked up last time. Anybody knows how to fix this? Thanks.

I have some additional information and questions regarding this issue.
What version of NI-VISA and MAX do you have installed?  There is
an issue with MAX 4 and Resman crashing when run outside of MAX.
A patch for this issue is on our website.  However, I have never seen the issue this patch fixes not hang Resman.  So my guess is that this is not what is happening in your case since you say it works for a month or so.
What happens when you run Resman twice in a row?  Do you get the
hang message the second time?  If you do, it's likely that you
have a registry permission problem.  To detect lockups, Resman
writes a value to the registry when it starts, and deletes it just
before it exits.  If the registry value is still present when
Resman starts, it says it detected a lockup.  Thus if the key has
been created but not deleted due to registry permissions problems,
Resman will -always- say it locked up.  Are you logged in as
Administrator?  What permissions do you have on the computer?

  • Resource Management and Solaris Zones Developer Guide

Solaris Information Products ("Pubs") is creating a
developer guide for resource management and Solaris Zones.
The department is seeking input on content from application
    developers and ISVs.
We plan to discuss the different categories of applications
that can take advantage of Solaris resource management
features, and provide implementation examples that discuss
the particular RM features that can be used.
Although running in a zone poses no differences to most
applications, we will describe any possible limitations and
offer appropriate workarounds. We will also provide
information needed by the ISV, such as determining
the appropriate system calls to use in a non-global zone.
We plan to use case studies to document the zones material.
We would like to know the sorts of topics that you would
like to see covered. We want to be sure that we address
your specific development concerns with regard to these
    features.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

Hi there, i'm using solaris resource management in a
server with more thant 2thousand acounts.
Created profiles for users, defaul, staff, root and
services.Seeing the contents of your /etc/project file could be helpful.
But while using rctladm to enable syslog'ing, I set up
global flags of "deny" and "no-local-action" in almos
everything. The flags on the right hand side of the rctladm(1M) output are read-only:
they are telling you the characteristics of the resource control in question (what
operations the system will allow the resource control to take).
Now, many aplications don't work because they are
    denied enough process.max-stack-size and
    process.max-file-descriptor for them to work.
Applications such has prstat. If prstat(1) is failing due to the process.max-file-descriptor control value, that's
probably a bug. prstat(1) is more likely bumping into the limit to assess how many file
descriptors are available, and then carrying on--you're just seeing a log message since
prstat(1) tested the file descriptor limit, and you've enabled syslog for that control. Please
post the prstat(1) output, and we'll figure out if something's breaking.
    I don't find a way to disable the global flags. You can't. I would disable the syslog action on the process.max-stack-size control first;
there is an outstanding bug on this control, in that it will report a false triggering event--
no actual effect to the process. (If you send me some mail, I will add you as a call record
    on the bug.)
    Can anyone tell me:
    how to disable global flags?
how to disable and enable solaris resource management
all together? You could raise all of the control values, but the resource control facility (like the resource
limit facility it superseded) is always active. Let's figure out if you're hitting the bug I mentioned,
and then figure out how to proceed.

  • Resource Manager statistics

    Hi Gurus,
i need to implement Resource Manager on a 10GR2 database. I will create 2 windows with a different resource manager plan to each of them. I have some questions about this:
    1. Is a default plan mandatory in the init.ora ?
    2. Is it the same to use an "alter system set resource_manager_plan= ..." or the function "switch_plan" to change the current plan ?
    3. When you change to a new plan, are statistics of the old plan saved ? and can we reuse them when we switch back to the old plan ?
    4. is the order "alter system set resource_manager_plan=''; reinitiate statistics to 0 ?
    5. are there some limits to the number of Resource Consumer Group, priority level, sub-plan ?
    Thank's so much.

  • Sys_group and resource manager

    Hello.
How much CPU % and at which level should I allocate to SYS_GROUP consumer group?
    1. Should I allocate 100% CPU to SYS_GROUP at level 1 and distribute CPU at level 2 to users
    2. Should I not mention SYS_GROUP in resource plan?

In setting up a resource manager plan it is very important that you set the system DBA's in the highest priority group for situations where it is needed the most. If your database started to get hung due to extensive queries and you as the DBA want to go in and diagnose or monitor the database then you wouldn't want your diagnostic queries to wait for CPU allocation. If you are not in the higher group and all the machine resources are busy then even login to the database could take a lot of time yet alone trying to diagnose or kill any query.
It is also important that if you set these accounts to the top most group then you should write very efficient SQL's to monitor your database (if you aren't using any standard product such as Enterprise Manager). Otherwise such could cause impact on the business queries.
Now the question regarding how much to assign them - it all depends on your business requirements. You have to design your own resource management as per the business objectives. In some situations people configure them as follows:
Level 1 - CPU 100% other directives UNLIMITED. Consumers SYS, SYSTEM, any other SYSDBA accounts and accounts like SYSMAN, DBSNMP
Level 2 - CPU 100% other directives either UNLIMITED or CONSTRAINEd. Consumers all other accounts in the database.
Or you can further split the users between Level 2 till last available level.
IF you don't mention the SYS_GROUP in your plan it will be categorized by Oracle as OTHER_GROUPS and will be given the least priority.

  • How Transaction Manager work with Resource Manager, like Connection pool?

    hi,
I'm using BEA Webloigc8.1 Stateless Session Bean/DAO/Oracle stored proc.
but I'm not quite clear how Transaction Manager work with Resource Manager, like Connection pool.
my understanding is that, in a weblogic transaction, a stateless session bean interact with several DAOs, and for each method of DAO a connection is acquired from connection pool. I've heard that the connection will not return to pool until the transaction commits.
My question is that, does it mean that for a weblogic transaction, multiple connections might be allocated to it? and if multiple connections are allocated, then how many oracle transactions would be started? or multiple connections share the same oracle transaction?
I didn't feel it make sense to start multiple oracle transactions, cause deadlock might be incurred in a single weblogic transaction.
    any help appreciated!

any help appreciated!Hi. If you configure your WLS DataSource to use keep a connection for
the duration of a tx, it will do that, and in any case there can be
no deadlock however many connections operate for a given XA transaction.
Here is the best coding form for DAOs or any other user-written code
for using WebLogic DataSources. This is important for two reasons:
1 - Thread-safety is maintained as long as the connection is a
    method-level object.
2 - It is crucial to notify WebLogic that you are done with a connection
ASAP, by your calling close() on it. We will then put it back in the
pool, or keep it under the covers for your next request if it's in a
transaction etc. The pool is optimized for quick get-use-close scenarios.
    public void one_of_my_main_JDBC_Methods()
Connection con=null; // Must be a method level object for thread-safety
// It will be closed by the end of the method.
    try {
con = myDataSource.getConnection(); // Get the connection in the try
// block, directly from the WebLogic
    // datasource
// do all the JDBC within this try block. You can pass the
// connection to subordinate methods, but not to anywhere
// that thinks it can use the connection later.
rs.close(); // close any result set asap
stmt.close(); // then close any statement asap
// When you're done with JDBC
con.close(); // close the connection asap
con = null; // nullify it so the finally knows it's done
    catch (Exception e) {
// do whatever catch stuff you want. You don't
// need a catch block if you don't want one...
    finally {
// It is important to close a JDBC connection ASAP when it's not needed.
// without fail, and regardless of exit path. Do everything in your
// finally block in it's own try-catch-ignore so everything is done.
    try { if (con != null) con.close();} catch (Exception ignore){}
    return ret;
    }

  • Over of using Database Resource Manager

    Hi All,
I am currently, doing a research on Database Resource Manager for implementing it in one of the Warehouse project database. Before, implementing it I would like to know few things. My Question is:
    Q. Does using Database Resource Manager cause any overhead? Any extra background process? any extra CPU Usage overhead? Any resource cost of using Database Resource Manager? Does it have any impact on resources and does it impact performance of the database?

    Hi Madrid,
Thank you for your reply. Currently, we are looking into to implement Resource Manager in a dataware house environment because there are some ad-hoc users who execute really bad queries which puts lot of load on the database server which in turn slows down the performance. And there are few other reasons too. I not the primary for that environment though. This Resource Manager came up we thought that it might help us in controlling the ad-hoc users bad queries and also the environment.
I have one more question in regards to resource manager. I have written a shell script which generates a report for stats of a resource plan from V$RSRC_CONSUMER_GROUP - which has stats data. But my concern is it stores historical stats too. For example, I have implemented resource manager and ran some queries and generated report and terminated all the sessions.
Next day when I again run some queries and generate a report it gives stats combined with previous days stats. Is there any solution for this? So, that I can generate a report for stats at a point of time. For OEM I can reset the stats and get most current stats but this is not the case with the view I mentioned above. Please let me know if there is any other alternative for this. Hope you got my question.

  • Database resource manager and RAC

    Hello,
This is probably is very simple question, but...
I have a system with mixed workloads (OLTP and BATCH). As many before, I want to prevent BATCH processes from impacting OLTP. I read about RAC and DRM, and how each could be used to assign resources to services.
Do I need RAC to be able to use DRM? Or can I do DRM without RAC? Are they the same thing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

DRM provides control over resource management decisions on both oracle standard and clustered databases.
pecifically, using the Database Resource Manager, you can:
    * Guarantee certain users a minimum amount of processing resources regardless of the load on the system and the number of users
    * Distribute available processing resources by allocating percentages of CPU time to different users and applications. In a data warehouse, a higher percentage may be given to ROLAP (relational on-line analytical processing) applications than to batch jobs.
    * Limit the degree of parallelism of any operation performed by members of a group of users
    * Create an active session pool. This pool consists of a specified maximum number of user sessions allowed to be concurrently active within a group of users. Additional sessions beyond the maximum are queued for execution, but you can specify a timeout period, after which queued jobs will terminate.
    * Allow automatic switching of users from one group to another group based on administrator defined criteria. If a member of a particular group of users creates a session that executes for longer than a specified amount of time, that session can be automatically switched to another group of users with different resource requirements.
    * Prevent the execution of operations that the optimizer estimates will run for a longer time than a specified limit
    * Create an undo pool. This pool consists of the amount of undo space that can be consumed in by a group of users.
    * Limit the amount of time that a session can be idle. This can be further defined to mean only sessions that are blocking other sessions.
    * Configure an instance to use a particular method of allocating resources. You can dynamically change the method, for example, from a daytime setup to a nighttime setup, without having to shut down and restart the instance.
    * Allow the cancellation of long-running SQL statements and the termination of long-running sessions.

  • VXI Resource Manager

I am using TCP/IP in LabVIEW to work with a VXI PC from a Sun Workstation. Sometimes the VXI Resource Manager gets a little lost and cannot talk to VXI instruments after a few errant calls. I have to stop a VXI Server software app on the PC, run the VXI Resource Manager from Max, and then restart the VXI Server software. Is there anyway to run VXI Resource Manager from command line or from LabVIEW? I searched around for it but could not find it. Thanks.

    Hello,
On a windows machine, Resman.exe is located in: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\VXI; on Linux it is in /usr/local/nainst/nivxi/bin and is simply called resman. Can you use the "find" or "locate" commands to find resman on the SUN machine? I think proper syntax would be:
    find / -name resman
    or
    locate resman
With the location information, I think you should be able to write a program on the VXI PC side which launches Resman programmatically.
If you have any further questions or have trouble, repost and we'll continue to explore it!

    One PC.

In the second VXI cage at slot 0, I installed NI zero slot controller,

The VXI cages are chained using MXI-2/M3 cable.
In the first VXI cage at slot 1, I installed a RACAL Instrument (1260-35
with option OPT-01T) that also needs a logical address, configured to

In the second VXI cage at slot 1, I installed a RACAL Instrument device

Running the Resource manager with only one RACAL device in either cage -
result OK (logical addresses 1,2,3 or 1,2,4).
Running a full system result - FAIL with the message "The device at logical

The same problem appears if I configure the logical address of the OPT-01T

    Eli-
I just noticed this unanswered question. I am guessing you've gotten your answer from another source by now, but in case anyone else has similar issues, I recommend our Logical Address Wizard, which helps configure multi-chassis MXI systems. Your case illustrates a common mistake when assigning LA's; having your two VXI-MXI-2's at LA 1 and 2 will not work. According to the LA Wizard, a combination like LA 4 (containing an instrument at LA 5) and LA 6 (containing an instrument at LA 7) would work.

    Aplications such has prstat.
I have warnings like this all over dmesg:

I don't find a way to disable the global flags.
    Can anyone tell me:
    how to disable global flags?
how to disable and enable solaris resource management all together?

    I don't find a way to disable the global flags. You can't. I would disable the syslog action on the process.max-stack-size control first;
there is an outstanding bug on this control, in that it will report a false triggering event--
no actual effect to the process.
