Resources access from applets

I need to present images in a web page scaled to a proper size, depending on the context: small size in an index page and real size in a content page.
Maybe I can do it in a simple way by means of Javascript, but I'm trying to do it by means of an applet.
The problem I am experiencing when I try to test my applet with appletviewer is that I get the following exception:
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission www.cervantina.org resolve)
Any hint? Thanks in advance (If anybody knows how to do it in Javascript, it will also be welcome)

Yeah, it should be just to access a local file, i.e. in the same directory the .class file is located. Just to save some data that the Applet uses and which the user should be able to edit. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how you did that!

  • EJB access from applet on Linux

    Hi,
    I've been trying for 2 days now to access an EJB in JServer from a Java Applet running in the Java Plugin 1.2.2 in Netscape on Linux.
    After loading the applet web page the plugin fires up and downloads a whole bunch of needed classes. Then I get this exception:
    java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError: org.omg.CORBA.INITIALIZE: can't instantiate default ORB implementation

    The frustrating part is that the same applet works just fine when called in a Win NT broswer (IE and Netscape) or appletviewer. A java test application accessing the EJB also runs fine on Linux.
    The only obivious difference is that my Windows machine has the Java Plugin 1.3 installed and Linux only 1.2.2. But since the applet has been compiled with the 1.2.2 compiler that shouldn't really make a difference, should it?
    I'd appreciate any help on this subject.
    Thx,

  • How to access database from applet using connection pooling.

    Hi,
    I am using tomcat 4.1, JRE 1.4.2_10, MySQL 5.0, and IE 6.0. I can access the database using connection pooling from JSP without problems. But, if I try to acess from the applet, I get the following exception (related to JNDI.):
    javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial

    at javax.naming.InitialContext.getURLOrDefaultInitCtx(Unknown Source)
    at javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(Unknown Source)
    I know what this acception means, but I don't know how to fix it. I set up connection pooling in my Tomcat 4.1 that talks to MySQL 5.0. As I said, when I access from jsp, JNDI works. But, applet complains. Please help. In my applet, the following code accesses the database:
    ArrayList toolTipData =
          access.getToolTipData (projectName,interfac);This is the snipet of my Access class:
    public ArrayList getToolTipData (String projectName, String interfac) {
        System.out.println("In getToolTipData");
        ArrayList toolTipData = new ArrayList();
       try{
        Context ctx = new InitialContext();
        if(ctx == null )
            throw new Exception("No Context");
        DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/interfacesDB");
        if (ds != null) {
          Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
          if(conn != null)  {
              Statement s = conn.createStatement();
              //For some reason paramtized queries don't work, so I am forced
              //to this in slighly less eficient way.
              ResultSet rst = s.executeQuery("select * from interfaces");
              while (rst.next()) {
                 if (rst.getString("Project_Name").equals(projectName) &&
                     rst.getString("Interface").equals(interfac)) {
                   System.out.println("getToolTipData: ITG #" + rst.getString("ITG"));
                   toolTipData.add("ITG #: " + rst.getString("ITG"));
                   toolTipData.add("SPNE Prime Name: " +
                                   rst.getString("SPNE_Prime_Name"));
                   toolTipData.add("PD Prime Name: " +
                                   rst.getString("PD_Prime_Name"));
                   toolTipData.add("IT Prime Name: " +
                                   rst.getString("IT_Prime_Name"));
                   toolTipData.add("MLC Priority: " +
                                   rst.getString("MLC_Priority"));
                   toolTipData.add("Gary's Prime: " + rst.getString("Garys_Prime"));
                   toolTipData.add("QA Prime: " + rst.getString("QA_Prime"));
                   toolTipData.add("Brief Description: " +
                                   rst.getString("Brief_Description"));
                   toolTipData.add("Project_Status: " +

              conn.close();
      }catch(Exception e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
      return toolTipData;
    ....

    The jsp runs on the server, whereas the applet runs on the client so
    you must package with your applet any jndi implementation specific classes
    and
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory" );
    props.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url", "url:1099");
    Context ctx = new InitialContext(props);
    Object ref = ctx.lookup("...");

  • Access System Resources using Java Applet via Java Script

    Hello
    I can access my Applet public methods (and this methods access system resources) via Java Script if I do the following: System.setSecurityManager(null);However, I'm making this post because I don't like this solution.
    Supposedly, setting the SM to null is like making the Applet (which is signed and was accepted by the user via a prompt from the browser) behave like a normal Java program that has no restrictions. (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/environment/security.html, second paragraph)
    However, this feels like a workaround of something that is supposed to be there (the SM).
    Also, if I make the methods invocation from inside the applet (using swing buttons and textboxes for example) I can use the standard SM without no problems.
    From my readings, the problem regarding Java Script invocation, comes from the fact that the Java Script is not a secure (not signed) source (because you can invoke public methods the way you wish from it i guess) on the contrary to the applet methods invoked by the buttons.
    Possible solutions I found in the web range from using the public static Object doPrivileged(PrivilegedAction action) method or imaginative things like creating new threads on the public method that call the private methods that access the system resources (supposedly because the new thread runs under the safe environment of the applet)
    I almost got a glimpse of hope with this post http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5325271&tstart=0
    However, none of these solutions worked, the only results were with the setResourceManager(null)So, any one can contribute with a solution for this? Should I keep trying to find a solution other then the one I already have?
    Regards
    Cad

    1. yes
    2. yes
    Note for 2. the converter will run the applet with SUN jre for sure if the user has IE.
    IE will use the ActiveX technology to run the applet (as with Macromedia Flash).
    For Netscape I am not sure, but I would think Netsape will use the plug in provided by
    SUN.
    Note for SUN jre 1.3. If this applet is to be used within a company that uses a proxy with
    ntlm authentication the 1.3 applet cannot connect (to the Internet) through this proxy since
    ntlm athentication is supported since j2re1.4.2_03. There is one version before that but
    that one will pop up a window asking for the user's domain account and password wich
    is both lame and crappy.
    As for the IE settings, IE has a default setting that askes users the "do you trust"
    queston for AciveX controls within the Internet securety zone (tools -> internet options
    -> security).
    Sincy anybody can make ActiveX controls (allso sign them) a user that has a problem
    to find the "no" button will sooner or later install a malicuous ActiveX control (spy ware
    or a virus).
    If this user's desktop is within your company's network it will cause serious harm.
    This is why most company's disable this by changing the default internet expolorer
    settings. Since I assume you are writhing this applet to be used by a company I allso
    assumed that company has someone to maintain the desktops. In that case I
    assume that person would want to control the security within the SUN jre instead of
    letting the user deside what to trust and what not.

  • Get Resource Access Descriptor from OID in Java

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get my ADF program to read DB credentials from a Database RAD - Resource Access Descriptor defined for my SSO users in OID (version 10.1.2.1.0).
    Examples are rare and sometimes they refer to deprecated functions or librairies.
    If someone had already the pleasure ;-) of reading username, password and database from a predefined RAD in OID please help: steps, examples, version of libraries, anything would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Pierre

    The apis are suitable for the values in proper table
    format.
    But the excel sheet is like a form and from that i
    have to get the values.Write an ActiveX plug-in for Excel that will send the values to your Java program. Or write an ActiveX plug-in for Excel that runs your Java program and passes it the values.

    Hey thanks. I wasn't able to get it to work with that sample but I did find this very similar code that does allow javascript to call JFileChooser in an applets public method.
    java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(
    new java.security.PrivilegedAction()
    public Object run(){
    //do your special code here
    return null; //return whatever you want
    It seems a bit tempermental in that if you don't select a file quickly, it will hang the browser....no perfect solution but I'm going in the right direction.

  • Accessing an applet from another applet

    Hi,
    I created a web page with a bunch of applets running on it, and I need to comunicate them. Is it possible to access the public methods and variables of one applet from another applet ? How do I do it ?

    I recently read an article that described how to access other applets in the same page, but I didn't pay much attention to it because I don't write applets. However, a quick look at the API documentation for the java.applet package shows this:
    "AppletContext: This interface corresponds to an applet's environment: the document containing the applet and the other applets in the same document."
    So I would try to get an AppletContext and see what could be done with it.

  • Is it possible to record audio/ vedio from applet and store it on server

    Pls tell me if it is possible to record audio/ vedio from applet and store it on server. I am using JMF. i am able to store audio on the same machine by making a java application but i am not able to understand how to use RTP with it to store it on server from an applet. pls help me i am in urgent need.

    If u want to capture audio/video from the client machine these are the pre-requisites
    1. u need to have JMF installed on the client :(
    one way out of this is that u bundle the library files along ur applet to the client. I am still to figure out how
    to fo that.
    2. while installation uncheck the option 'copy DLLs to system folder....' and check the option 'Allow capture
    from applets.
    3. The Applets u create must be signed, for accessing the client resources such as hard drive.
    You can then capture n save file on the client, open an inout stream out of it, open an outputstream to the server as already described above and start uploading......

  • Android MS RDP - RPC Error: Your connection was denied because of a Resource Access Policy (TS_RAP). Please contact your server administrator. (2147965402).

    I love iTap Mobile.  Paid for the app.  Sorry to see them discontinue it, but now I know why.  Microsoft bought them out!  But even though free, I am getting an error: RPC Error: Your connection was denied because of a Resource Access
    Policy (TS_RAP). Please contact your server administrator. (2147965402).  I worked with iTap to fix this so I guess they sold Microsoft their older buggy code...  Microsoft, please fix!
    PS: This is the Android version.  Mac and iOS are both okay.
    EDIT:  After an update a few months ago, iOS is no longer working.  Not sure if the problem is related to the Android MSRDP issue.
    UPDATE - Relevant posts (need Android RDP software engineer to fix):
    Event Viewer Log when using Android client:
    The user
    "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", met connection authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to access the RD Gateway server. The following authentication method was used: "NTLM". (This
    is most likely for logging into RD Web - icons shows up).
    The
    user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", did not meet resource authorization policy requirements and was therefore not authorized to resource"localhost".
    The following error occurred: "23002".  (This is after clicking on any
    of the icons).
    I
    think the Android MS RDP client is providing the incorrect resource.  It shouldn't be "localhost".
     It should be the RD Connection Broker's hostname, I believe.
    Here's what it should look like (connected using a Windows PC going
    through the RD Web portal via Internet Explorer):
    The user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", met connection
    authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to access the RD Gateway server. The following authentication method was used: "NTLM".
    The user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", met resource
    authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to connect to resource "rdsfarm.domain.com".
    The user "DOMAIN\testuser", on client computer "10.x.x.x", connected
    to resource "rdsfarm.domain.com".
    Stephan,
    Do you have any way to contact the software engineer who worked on the Android version of the RDP client?  Please
    have them read this thread.  They need to fix the hard coded "localhost" resource to be a variable (namely whatever the user put in for the server).
    This is why the MS RDP app is failing in situations where the FQDN for the RD Gateway and Connection Broker uses
    the same host name.
    Again, this is not a configuration problem on our end as it works as intended with the native Windows RDP client
    as well as the Mac and iOS version of the mobile RDP client (all based on iTap Mobile's RDP app).
    This is a problem specific to the Android RDP app.
    PS: No matter how hard I try, the WYSIWYG editor is not very WYSIWYG at all, and so everything here looks messed up even though it looked right when I posted it (it is deleting new blank lines I'm inserting to make it spaced out and easier to read). See
    below to read the post in context.

    Thanks for the bumps, everyone.  I haven't check this thread in a while because I basically gave up on Microsoft's ability to respond.  Unlike paid apps, there's no number to call or ticket to open when an app like this malfunctions.
    Just to give you an update, iOS users started having issues connecting a few months ago.  I don't remember what version started this.  I'm not sure if it's the same problem.
    Also, the newest version now gives a slightly different error message:  RpcOverHttpEndpointException: 2, Your connection was denied because of a Resource Access Policy (TS_RAP).  Please contact your server administrator.
    For Android users, I am starting to recommend Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client.  It's a paid app, but it works great.  I don't know of any alternative for iOS.
    MSRDP for Mac OSX (was also an iTap application) continues to work throughout the many updates.
    We need a software engineer from MS to read my first post.  All the information that will point to a fix is there.  I strongly believe someone hardcoded the string "localhost" instead of using a variable to point to the FQDN of the rdsfarm
    name.
    Here's that info again (copied/pasted).  It doesn't take an engineer to understand the issue.  If you know how to decipher Event Logs, you can see where the problem is.
    Event

  • Calling web service from applet

    Hi,
    I am trying to consume a .NET web service from a java applet. I use JDev9i and I generated a clientside-stub...
    It works fine in the development environnement, but I get this exception when executing from browser:

    I replaceOracleSOAPHTTPConnection with SoapHTTPConnection, but then I get the same exception when trying to execute
    requestBodyEntries.addElement(toElement(wrappingName, targetNamespace, requestData)); (in the stub)
    Is there anything wrong with the methods of the Oracle packages that could cause security problems?

    Nope, the problem is that the webservice impl is trying to get all system properties and this is a restricted operation for applets. Seems like every single api impl done by oracle is not usable from applets, unless you sign them. I've tried webservices, xml and jndi.. all of them rely on system properties

  • Finally.... Video captured from applet in Vista!!

    Hello!
    Hurray!! finally I can see myself smiling and waving back in browser in Vista.
    I mentioned in another thread just a day earlier that I will post a new topic if I succeed in capturing from applets in Vista, so thats what I am doing.... This thread is all about how achieved it.
    I have seen many posts mentioning problems in capturing from applets in vista. I was also one of the sufferer. And most people including me blamed that on restricted sandbox of Vista. But surprisingly it was all about classpath.
    I think I mentioned in some earlier thread that the 'Java console' shows the classpath to be *"{JREHOME}/classes"* instead of the classpath specified in CLASSPATH environment variable. You can check that by pressing 's' which *'dumps system and deployment properties'* in the Java Console. You can check the classpath by noting the value of *"java.class.path"* field which for my case was"C:\\PROGRA~1\\Java\\jre6\\classes". This turned out to be the main problem. The applet was not accessing any classes from the real CLASSPATH instead it was considering the classpath to be jrehome/classes. So, now I had enough hint what to do next. I simply created a folder 'classes' in {JREHOME} and copied the jmf registry files to that folder. By registry files I mean *'jmf.properties'* and *'jmf.properties.orig'* files in *'{JMF Install}/lib'* folder (actually i don't which among them has got some thing to do with the registry but I copied them both). So, after doing this, all my capture applets, whether signed or unsigned started running. Earlier they all were throwing *"java.lang.RuntimeException: No permission to capture from applets"* exception even after I have allowed capture from applets in JMF registry. That was perhaps not taking affect because of classpath issues. So, thats the story.... if someone faces the same problem he can use this workaround or you can say hack ;-)
    Some questions which can be asked from me would be:
    1- Did you set your CLASSPATH environment variable correctly?
    ans: Yes, infact all my jmf applications were running correctly, the problem was only with the applets.
    2- What classpath other systems (e.g. XP) mention in the Java console ?
    ans: surprisingly, the same classpath that Vista mentions i.e. {JREHOME}/classes. I tested on XP-SP3, but it supposedly had access to the real CLASSPATH also.
    3- Is this problem really Vista specific?
    ans: Can't say... but it can be. It maybe the case that Vista does not allow access to real CLASSPATH, but this problem can easily be my system specific, it would be called a general vista problem if this happens on all Vista systems, I need volunteers for this test. captfoss, can you please test this on your system? :)
    4- Is this problem JMF specific?
    ans: Chances are low. I am going to test this by making my own test library and adding it to classpath and then try to access it via applet. If this fails then this problem is not JMF specific.
    Drawbacks of this work around:
    1- This can be a pain for ordinary users , copying registry files from JMF/lib to JRE/classes.
    2- Whatever you change in JMF registry would not be effective to the applets. As the old registry files are to be replaced with new registry files every time JMF registry is changed for changes to take effect in applets.
    The real big question:
    How can we force Vista to look in the real CLASSPATH? this is the real question, if this can be done just by changing some settings then all this workaround is useless :) I am looking forward to the answer of this question.....
    captfoss, I would highly appreciate your comments.
    Thanks for reading this rather long post.... :)
    Thanks!

    A couple of comments here...the answer is, in fact, no, you didn't set your classpath correctly. One, you're probably using a JAR file to run your applet from (I'm not an applet programmer but I do believe that a JAR is required) which do not use the environment's classpath, they use their manifest classpath. No, the applet was not jared.
    Second, I believe that the browser itself specifies its own classpath, which you cannot modify. I believe this would be considered a security feature...Both IE7 and firefox3 fail.
    "You have little control over the CLASSPATH used by a browser for an Applet"
    [http://mindprod.com/jgloss/classpath.html]
    Ok this maybe the reason, I will go through the link....
    2- What classpath other systems (e.g. XP) mention in the Java console ?
    ans: surprisingly, the same classpath that Vista mentions i.e. {JREHOME}/classes. I tested on XP-SP3, but it supposedly had access to the real CLASSPATH also. There isn't a "real" CLASSPATH, there is just the classpath stored as an environmental variable. It's no more or less real than the one in the browser.Thats what I thought.... but I think {JREHOME}/classes is the default class path used by the jre whether we set any CLASSPATH variable or not it would be there, something of that sort.....
    Lots of possibilities, but my best guess is that Vista doesn't let code running in the browser read environmental variables.Yes, I fully agree with this. I think I should file a bug report.
    4- Is this problem JMF specific?
    ans: Chances are low. I am going to test this by making my own test library and adding it to classpath and then try to access it via applet. If this fails then this problem is not JMF specific. Definately not. It would apply to any code that wants to access something on the classpath. You are right... as I said I would test it, I tested by making a small library, added it to classpath, made an application and an applet. As expected, the aplication worked while the applet failed.
    Any application with a custom classpath would be affected.I don't understand what you mean here, do you mean 'Class-path' header in jar manifest?
    I like the "installation requirement" part. I'd suggest looking into that. Alternately, there may be something in the security settings to allow access to environmental variables.I will try to look into both.
    I just tried this statement in applet:
    System.out.println( System.getProperty( "java.class.path" ) );It threw this exception:
    Exception: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission java.class.path read)
    I don't know what conclusion should I draw from this... this does mean applet has no right to know what the classpath is.... but this doesn't mean even jre plugin responsible for running applet does not know what the classpath is :)
    Finally, I want to say that due to some problems I could not post earlier, and I may not post for few more days. But I appreciate your comments and would appreciate more of them.
    Thanks!

  • Can CS6 exploit the GPU on my desktop when accessed from my laptop with RDP?

    Just to clarify further: both machines running windows 7 professional or better (so the full version of RDP is available), and CS6 runiing on the desktop, accessed from my laptop.
    As the GPU is being used as a compute resource, will CS use the desktop GPU for acceleration?
    sad day if not - I am considering ditching expensive laptops and use a medium spec laptop together with a good gutsy desktop (which is about 1/3rd the price / performance) as I have a good network to run over at home.

    The water is somewhat muddied.  I have only a Windows 7 and Windows 8 system to try it with at the moment.
    This is what I got when I RDP'd into a Windows 8 VM from Windows 7:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Windows NT
    Version: 6.2
    System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:7, Stepping:6 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1
    Physical processor count: 4
    Processor speed: 3159 MHz
    Built-in memory: 4095 MB
    Free memory: 3104 MB
    Memory available to Photoshop: 3466 MB
    Memory used by Photoshop: 60 %
    Image tile size: 128K
    Image cache levels: 4
    The GPU Sniffer crashed on 8/21/2012 at 5:33:29 PM
    Display: 1
    Display Bounds:=  top: 0, left: 0, bottom: 1200, right: 1600
    No video card detected
    Serial number: Tryout Version
    Application folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\
    Temporary file path: C:\TEMP\
    Photoshop scratch has async I/O enabled
    Scratch volume(s):
      Startup, 159.7G, 134.6G free
    Required Plug-ins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Required\
    Primary Plug-ins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\
    Additional Plug-ins folder: \\Noelc4\c\DEV\ProDigital\trunk\plugins\Output\Win\LastBuild\x64\
    I have Photoshop working okay on the above system using the OpenGL VMware provides when I log directly into the console...
    I don't think the above failure says anything definitive one way or another what's up with your particular request yet, though it does tell me I need to do some additional testing to try to understand what's happening so that I know how my own products are going to behave in this situation.
    I have a Windows 7 VM I can test with.  Watch this space...

  • OID Resource Access Descriptors in Forms and Reports

    Dear Colleage,
    In my Forms application (Oracle Application Server 10g (version 9.04), I call Reports from certain Forms. I have have SSO activated in both Forms and Reports. I have also defined two RADs (Resource Access Descriptors) in the OID called RKMSPROD and RKMSTEST, i.e. for the production DB and test DB respectively. I successfuly configured my formsweb.cfg file with [RKMSPROD] and [RKMSTEST] and can access the the corresponding DB using the URL parameter, e.g. CONFIG=RKMSTEST.
    Question 1
    ========
    Is the DB connection associated with the RADs (i.e. RKMSPROD or RKMSTEST in my case) implicitly passed on to the Reports server when I start a report job via the built-in RUN_REPORT_OBJECT or do I have to explicitly add the SSOCONN=RKMSTEST parameter before using the built-in RUN_REPORT_OBJECT?
    Question 2
    ========
    If I have to set the SSOCONN, how can I find out programatically, which RAD is currently active? I am using the same forms to access the two different DBs.
    Best regards,
    Charles

    Connect info is passed when making the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT call. No changes to Reports is needed. The only requirement is that both Forms and Reports have SSO enabled. The same information used to connect to Forms will be used to connect to Reports.
    More details are described in the Forms/Reports Integration White Paper:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/10g/frm10gsrw10g.pdf
    Specifically refer to the section titled "Using the Run_Report_Object () Built-in" on page 20.
